Chapter 63: Elvis is Back part 1
Inside the conference room, once the group reached a consensus, they plunged into a heated discussion.
As the technicalities of the inscriptions were explained in depth, the gazes the crowd turned toward Yun Yingzhi became increasingly filled with admiration.
No one could dislike such a brilliant talent. Especially since the majority of those present were quite advanced in age, Yun Yingzhi looked like nothing more than a child to them.
This “little kid” should have been flourishing in the world of Source Weapon manufacturing, becoming a legend of the Los Empire. Why on earth did such a gifted individual have to go to the Combat Department and endure such suffering?
The group took short breaks between sessions, believing that balancing work and rest was the only way to maintain peak efficiency.
Most utilized these breaks to attend to personal needs—like visiting the restroom, and…
Opening their personal optical computers. Those Source Weapon manufacturers who had Admiral Yun or Madame Yun in their contact lists went on a venting spree. Those who didn’t couldn’t help but complain to their friends about how the Admiral and his wife had treated Yun Yingzhi all these years.
Consequently, their remarks spread through the Star Net like wildfire, passing from ten to a hundred, and then a hundred to a thousand.
In an instant, the Star Net was flooded with a fresh wave of news regarding Yun Yingzhi.
—So, all this time, Yun Yingzhi has been using a C-grade constitution to be a Combat Department student and train alongside them?
—Yes, I must say, as Yun Yingzhi’s classmate, I already found the training incredibly difficult. But Yun Yingzhi never complained or cried about being tired. He did whatever we did and never once asked the instructors to go easy on him. He is exceptionally hardworking and resilient; he has truly been striving to live despite his frail body.
—My master is a close friend of Grandmaster Alvin. I heard in the past that the monthly allowance Admiral Yun and Madame Yun gave Yun Yingzhi was a mere pittance. Back then, my master told me that the one who raised Yun Yingzhi was Colonel Yun Yinghui. To support his younger brother, Colonel Yun almost had to sell himself.
—When Yun Yingzhi was little, I often saw him in his second form. A tiny milky rabbit leaning dependently on Yun Yinghui—he was a true “little pitiful.”
—Thank God for Yun Yinghui! But wait? Yun Yinghui almost sold himself for a pitiful little white rabbit?
—Because Admiral Yun and Madame Yun refused to pay for Yun Yingzhi’s tuition, so it all fell on the shoulders of the then-underage Yun Yinghui.
As more people learned about the “Little Pitiful’s” upbringing, their fists clenched hard—the kind of hardness that made one want to pummel someone to death.
Once the break ended, influenced by the heavy atmosphere, even more people in the Association looked at Yun Yingzhi with gazes full of heartache. They truly treated him like a poor, helpless little white rabbit.
Shortly after, the group moved to the workshop.
The studio was filled with various Source material vending machines. All raw materials inside were free of charge, and those in the studio could take whatever they needed at will.
The crowd noticed Yun Yingzhi’s eyes light up the moment he looked at the vending machines.
While there, the group tactfully inquired about Yun Yingzhi’s living expenses.
When they learned that while attending Fanse Academy, his monthly allowance was a measly three thousand credits, their heartache became unbearable.
The cultivation of a Source Weapon manufacturer requires a massive amount of money. Three thousand… that could accomplish absolutely nothing.
No wonder Yun Yingzhi had to “fleece” the organizers when he participated in the Star Glory Competition.
Was this Yun Yingzhi’s fault?
Clearly, he was brilliant yet so poor—it was all the fault of the Admiral’s Manor!
Because they pitied him, they treated Yun Yingzhi even better than before.
At noon, everyone went to eat together in harmony. Throughout the meal, they frequently showered Yun Yingzhi with concern while collectively cursing Admiral Yun and Madame Yun.
Work continued in the afternoon.
The members of the Source Weapon Association were passionate about their craft. Once they entered research mode, there was almost no end in sight. In the blink of an eye, it was already past eleven at night.
Yun Yingzhi bid everyone farewell and boarded a hovercar to head home.
Upon arriving, Yun Yingzhi went upstairs first to check on the two little cubs.
One cub was sleeping obediently inside the incubator, while the other looked like a “rabbit pancake,” clinging tightly to Yun Yinghui’s face as it slept.
Yun Yinghui carefully peeled the rabbit pancake off and held it in his hand as he talked to Yun Yingzhi about the day’s events.
The rabbit pancake curled into a ball in Yun Yinghui’s palm but didn’t wake up.
Yun Yinghui said that initially, the two cubs were having a great time at the Yaoming Battle Arena. However, once they got sleepy, they started looking for Yun Yingzhi.
When they couldn’t find him, they threw a small fit. Realizing it would yield no results, they tactfully hugged each other and took a nap together.
The cubs were still small and needed a lot of sleep.
After waking up, they resumed their search for Yun Yingzhi. When they still couldn’t find him, they refused to play at the arena anymore and kept clamoring to go home, likely believing that Yun Yingzhi would be there.
The egg cub had been rowdy too.
Ever since the egg cub had almost gotten lost while taking the rabbit cub through a spatial jump, it had rarely used its spatial abilities. However, from the looks of it today, the egg cub kept wanting to warp, but ultimately didn’t—likely still being afraid.
Heartaching, Yun Yingzhi stroked the rabbit cub and then opened the incubator to pat the egg cub. Afterward, to avoid waking them, he returned to his own room alone.
By the time breakfast rolled around the next morning, the two cubs—who had been restless late into the night—were still fast asleep.
After finishing his breakfast, Yun Yingzhi checked on the sleeping cubs one last time before heading out to the Source Weapon Association to continue earning “milk powder money.”
In the afternoon, during a break, Yun Yingzhi received a video call request from Yun Yinghui.
Through the background of the projection, Yun Yingzhi could guess that Yun Yinghui had taken the cubs back to the Yaoming Battle Arena.
The two cubs were incredibly excited to see Yun Yingzhi and began pouncing—thump, thump, thump—toward the projection screen.
Yun Yingzhi tried to soothe them.
The rabbit cub’s tears began falling pitter-patter.
The usually upright egg cub suddenly went flat and started rolling around, as if imitating other children throwing a temper tantrum on the floor.
The rabbit cub’s teary eyes paused for a second. He looked at the egg cub protesting by rolling in circles in the crook of Yun Yinghui’s shoulder.
After a moment’s thought, the rabbit cub climbed from Yun Yinghui’s lap to his other shoulder. He lay down on his back with his belly to the sky and began stretching his paws and kicking his jiojios in protest.
It was fortunate that the cubs were so tiny—or perhaps their control was just that good—because despite their thrashing, they didn’t fall off Yun Yinghui’s shoulders.
Looking at the cubs, Yun Yingzhi’s heart felt like it was breaking, and he hurriedly comforted them.
Seeing that the break was almost over, Yun Yingzhi bid farewell to Yun Yinghui and disconnected the call.
The two cubs, who had been throwing their tantrum, were momentarily stunned when the video call vanished.
The two little things sat up straight, glanced at each other across Yun Yinghui’s shoulders, and then looked at Yun Yinghui in unison.
The rabbit cub scrambled with his tiny paws and jiojios, clinging to Yun Yinghui’s face again as he asked: “Da?”
Yun Yinghui: “…”
After a pause, Yun Yinghui said, “Your daddy is working right now. You’ll see him in a little while…”
Before Yun Yinghui could finish, the two cubs’ bodies began to wobble, looking like they were about to roll right off his face and shoulders.
Yun Yinghui quickly caught the two pitiful cubs, who were overcome with a grief so profound they couldn’t extricate themselves simply because they couldn’t see their father.
That day, when Yun Yingzhi returned from the Association, the two cubs were asleep again.
January 28th. Yun Yingzhi left early and returned late once more.
He had been exceptionally busy lately.
