Chapter 33: Forgetting One’s Father Once They Have a Wife part 1
According to Xie Ren’s reaction speed, if it had been Zhao Yi who pushed him, Zhao Yi’s face would have been in the water barrel two seconds later. Unfortunately, he had been distracted, and Yu Shi had made his escape.
Yu Shi let go and ran like the wind, disappearing into the crowd in an instant.
He took his revenge with backbone and fled without hesitation.
Someone said with a laugh, “Boss Xie, it’s only been a month. How did you become so weak that even an Omega could dunk you in a barrel? You’re really embarrassing our Falcon Regiment.”
Xie Ren laughed instead of getting angry. He rotated his wrist and said, “You want a drink too?”
“No, no, no. I’m carrying a gun, haha.”
“Keep a good watch. I’m going to change.” Xie Ren unfastened his bulletproof vest and threw it at the man.
The Alpha and Omega locker rooms were separated by a hallway. After changing, Xie Ren walked toward the neighboring room, intending to settle the score with Yu Shi. Halfway there, he unexpectedly ran into Xie Chengfeng, who was coming out of the restroom.
Xie Chengfeng opened his mouth, about to call him, but Xie Ren’s expression changed and he brushed past him as if they were strangers.
That posture of avoiding association was too obvious. Xie Chengfeng was so angry he immediately barked, “Stop right there!”
With no one around, Xie Ren looked around and stood still hesitantly.
Xie Chengfeng was furious, his eyes bulging. “What do you mean? It was enough that you pretended not to see me at the gate, but now you’re putting on airs when no one’s here. Do you even respect me as your father?!”
“Shh!” Xie Ren raised a finger. “Keep it down; the soundproofing here isn’t great.”
“…” Xie Chengfeng was about to explode. “Is our relationship that shameful? You’re my damn son!”
He said irritably, “The Sovereign is hosting a banquet tonight. You come along with Tang Jiadong. If you dare not to go, I’ll announce you’re my son in public.”
Xie Ren said unhappily, “Dad, you’re being unreasonable.”
Separated by a wall in the Omega locker room, Yu Shi was slowly doing up his buttons when he heard a rustling sound behind him.
His gaze turned cold, and he whipped around to meet a pair of eyes that had appeared out of nowhere.
Zheng Xiao was half-hidden in the darkness like a ghost. His extreme stealth allowed him to come and go without a trace; he had clearly made the noise on purpose to alert Yu Shi.
Yu Shi frowned deeply. “How did you get in?”
“I only came in after you finished changing,” Zheng Xiao said expressionlessly.
Yu Shi said angrily, “I’m asking how you entered the National Defense Academy! The Sovereign is here today; do you want to die?”
“Don’t be so agitated; I won’t move today.” Zheng Xiao seemed to have no emotions as he delivered the instructions robotically. “The Sovereign will leave tomorrow morning. At twelve o’clock, enter the armory on time.”
Yu Shi asked in a low voice, “What does Qin Yin want to do? Making a move specifically on the day of the Sovereign’s inspection—isn’t he afraid of getting burned?”
“Mr. Qin has his own plans and only told me to notify you of the time.”
Yu Shi pondered for a moment, realizing Qin Yin was doing it on purpose—choosing an important day to destroy public trust and then incite public opinion. This wasn’t just a provocation; it was a death wish.
It seemed his true colors were no longer being hidden.
He looked annoyed. “Got it. Next time, don’t suddenly appear like a ghost, and don’t come to places like the locker room.”
Zheng Xiao didn’t leave; instead, he grabbed the soaked clothes Yu Shi had changed out of. “I came here to remind you of another matter.”
Yu Shi looked over in confusion. Zheng Xiao shook the pant leg, and a half-inch-sized piece of paper fluttered out. It was soaked through and stuck heavily to the edge of the fabric.
Zheng Xiao picked it up with two fingers and said, “A new type of bug. You’re being watched, Instructor Yu.”
He had never addressed Yu Shi by any title; those three words were spoken without emotion and sounded somewhat mocking.
Yu Shi’s expression shifted, and Tang Tianhao’s face flashed through his mind—the only one who had touched his pant leg.
Fortunately, this piece of paper had been soaked early on and had lost its signal transmission function. His face turned grim, and various guesses flashed through his mind.
“If there’s someone to be dealt with, you can find me anytime,” Zheng Xiao said calmly.
“No need.” Yu Shi didn’t like talking to him and said succinctly, “I’ll handle my own business; no need for you to interfere.”
Zheng Xiao stopped moving. When Yu Shi looked up again, the locker room was empty.
A small iris storage device was left on the bench.
Yu Shi picked it up and put it in his pocket. This was used to change the state of the iris.
After he came out of the locker room, the indoor exhibition had already begun.
The single-floor area of the venue was nearly ten thousand square meters. It had been specially built for the gun exhibition over a decade ago, and the interior decoration was magnificent.
Li Yang and Qi Huan had been conscripted into the photography team. Tang Jiadong knew Yu Shi wanted to see the exhibition and hadn’t assigned him any other work. Yu Shi took Xu Bohan and started visiting from the entrance, giving opinions and views along the way.
The guns on display this time were all treasures, including skeletal guns from the last century, pocket weapons, old-fashioned rocket launchers, and so on. There were also a large number of guns used by famous military officers, some bearing marks of damage and bloodstains.
“This is Marshal Xie’s service weapon; he was actually willing to put it on display.” Xu Bohan made a surprised sound as he looked through the bulletproof glass.
Yu Shi looked at the display case. It was indeed the famous “Sidewinder.”
The body of the gun was a matte black, with a red snake coiled around the barrel. Its shape and flow were eerie and domineering. The stock and trigger were ergonomically designed, and the bottom of the magazine showed signs of being replaced, likely having undergone modification and repair.
Yu Shi remembered the feel of the snake’s head—it was a bit coarse and rough. A child’s palm was tender and could easily be scratched.
“You seem to like this gun very much,” Xie Chengfeng said.
Xu Bohan quickly bowed and stepped aside to make way for him.
“Marshal Xie.” Yu Shi turned to greet him.
He said, “I’m interested in all popular weapons. This gun has been on many handgun rankings.”
Xie Chengfeng asked casually, “Tell me what you know about it.”
“It’s a handgun controlled by pheromones. The highlight is that after the user connects to the gun, they can achieve long-distance control, like taming a mount. It gives a great sense of accomplishment. But the snake-shaped tube can only store two types of pheromones at most, making it very inconvenient to change users.”
Yu Shi asked, “How did the grip feel when you used it, Marshal? Was it as the media said—very difficult to get used to at first?”
Xie Chengfeng looked interested. “You’ve actually seen my interviews? It was indeed uncomfortable at first. Its trajectory was a bit off, so I had someone modify it.”
Yu Shi nodded. “No wonder the back end looks heavily worn.”
Xie Chengfeng praised, “You really are professional. Your father said you were a student of Old Master Tang. I thought you were just a student in name only, but you’re actually a practitioner. The youth are indeed formidable.”
His words were a bit condescending, or perhaps just the common language of a superior. He was unaware of it himself.
Yu Shi said indifferently, “It seems the Marshal doesn’t know the Third Academy very well. My teacher never takes students in name only.”
Saying a Marshal of the Eastern District didn’t know the research institute within his jurisdiction was equivalent to secretly mocking him for being lax in management. Xie Chengfeng naturally understood this, and a trace of coldness appeared in his eyes.
Yu Shi asked as if he hadn’t noticed, “I heard the previous owner of this gun was Marshal Li. How did you get it from him?”
When he mentioned Li Huaiquan, Xie Chengfeng’s face grew several shades colder, as if he had heard an extremely repulsive name.
“Hmph. Naturally, I obtained it legitimately,” he said arrogantly. “When Marshal Li was still a Major General, he got this gun from Dana Prison. Later, he made a bet with me. He lost, so the gun naturally became mine.”
Yu Shi’s breath hitched. “A bet?”
Xie Chengfeng sneered, “Since you’re so obsessed with weapons, you should know the origin of this gun. At the time, its owner was imprisoned. Li Huaiquan said he would definitely come out alive.”
He said coldly, “But that was Dana Prison, which only holds political and military prisoners and has always been a place with no exit. I bet he would definitely die inside and wouldn’t even make it to a military court. The result was exactly as I guessed—that man committed suicide, so the gun became mine.”
