Chapter 28: The Grandfathers’ Little Secret part 1
By the time Xu Mingyao returned with the books, what he saw was the awkward scene of Yu An and Wan Cen sitting alone without speaking to each other. The classmates around them were all chatting happily with their desk mates, making this pair of unfamiliar desk mates stand out exceptionally in the class.
Yu Anâs desk was empty. He didn’t dare place Klold and Xiao Bai on the desk. He stole a glance at Wan Cen and, seeing him focused on his book without looking away, secretly took his two companions out and placed them on his knees.
Klold had felt very cramped in Yu Anâs small pocket. The first thing He did after coming out was stretch His small tentacles. Each one extended outward like a person stretching, or like a blooming flower.

Xu Mingyao ignored him and stared straight at the guilt-ridden Yu An, who was fiddling with his shirt hem. “Did you bring a phone too?”
“No, I didn’t bring a phone.”
“Then what did you bring?”
Yu An went silent again.
“You didn’t bring your dolls, did you?” Xu Mingyao used his imagination and felt that bringing dolls to school fit Yu An perfectly. “Can you not live without your dolls? Will you cry if you can’t be with them?”
Yu An froze. He instinctively applied the “doll” identity to Klold and Xiao Bai and nodded honestly.
Xu Mingyao revealed a “just as I thought” smile. He could already imagine the scene before school: the well-behaved, soft little ball stuffing his favorite dolls from his room into his backpack. If his parents tried to stop him, the little ball would even hug his beloved dolls and cry tears like pearls. It would be truly pitiful.
Perhaps his papas had softened their hearts and let him bring the dolls to school.
Without Yu An needing to say more, Xu Mingyao had already filled in the backstory in his mind. His sun-tanned, wheat-colored face couldn’t help but turn a bit red, looking somewhat cute.
At this moment, he seemed to understand his friends who had beautiful younger siblings at home. If Yu An were his brother, he would also buy him candy every day after school.

Other students only needed to watch out for the teacher when slacking off; Yu An had to watch out for everyone in the classroom, especially Wan Cen.
Wan Cen secretly leaned over, and Yu An quickly covered Klold and Xiao Bai.
Wan Cen: “I know many rumors about monsters. Do you really not want to know?”
“I don’t.”
“Why? You’re not interested in monsters?”
Yu An: “Not interested.”
Why be interested in something I’ve seen since I was little?

“I know why you don’t like monsters.” Wan Cenâs eyes flashed with wisdom behind his lenses as he said with conviction, “Because you prefer playing with dolls.”
Yu An: “…”
Sure enough, coming to school was a mistake.
Wan Cen saw that Yu An didn’t want to talk to him anymore and didn’t want to make a fool of himself. He tore a piece of scratch paper and started passing notes with the classmate in front of him to discuss their favorite monster topics.
The morning slipped away quietly. During the last period, Yu An suddenly felt an itch at his ankle. He looked down and saw the snow-white little snake looking up at him.
And coiled in the snake’s tail was the shivering Giant-eared Rabbit.
[Little An-an.] The snow snakeâs clear, youthful voice echoed in Yu Anâs mind. [We came to find you.]
Since the Giant-eared Rabbitâs mouth was blocked by the snake’s tail, it could only make whimpering sounds. The little rabbit was going to cry to death.
It didn’t want to come find this Ushatos cub!
Yu An looked at them in surprise. He glanced left and right to make sure no one was paying attention, then bent down to pick up the snow snake.
The space on the desk was limited, so Yu An put Klold and Xiao Bai into his backpack and placed the snow snake and rabbit on the desk.
Yu An stroked the snow snake along its scales. The snakeâs body was cool and very comfortable to touch. [How did you come to find me? Where are Brother Yunshu and the others?]
[They are in another building. The annoying guy and that pair of twins are still monitoring that coward.] The snow snake didn’t care for humans. It rubbed against Yu Anâs thumb. Yu An was very moved. His brothers were still thinking of him.
The last period of the morning ended, and Yu An was hungry. He stuffed the four little guys into his pockets to take them to lunch. He took out the meal card Teacher Yao had given him, wondering what to eat today and if the cafeteria had strawberry cake.
He was the last one to leave the classroom, yet unexpectedly, Xu Mingyao was standing at the door. This familiar position made Yu Anâs heart tighten. He instinctively raised his hand to cover his forehead, his round eyes watching him warily.
“Last time was just an accident. I won’t bump into you.” Xu Mingyao explained awkwardly to Yu An. “Itâs your first day at school; you probably don’t know the way. How about I take you to the cafeteria?”
Yu An indeed didn’t know the way to the cafeteria. He was just about to agree when the snow snake told him that Fu Yunshu and the others were already waiting for him downstairs.
“No need.” Yu Anâs eyes held a smile, yet he refused Xu Mingyao without hesitation. “My brothers are downstairs. I’ll just go find them.”
With that, ignoring Xu Mingyaoâs darkening face, he walked straight downstairs to find Fu Yunshu and the others.
Fu Yunshu, Gu Yixing, and Gu Ersheng were waiting for Yu An at the stairwell. Yu An saw them as soon as he got downstairs. He waved to them happily and jogged to their side like a cheerful little butterfly.
Fu Yunshuâs gaze was soft as he stroked Yu Anâs small head. “How is school life?”
