Little Monster Cub Chapter 32

Chapter 32: Going Home

Xu Mingyao possessed an incredibly strong sense of pride. After his self-inflicted humiliation with Yu An, he spent his days avoiding the boy like he was a plague. The teachers and students in class were all amazed.

The “Little Demon King” actually had someone he was afraid of—and that person was the soft, gentle Yu An. It was truly a case of “the world is wide and full of wonders.”

Yu An had long since grown accustomed to Xu Mingyao’s strange behavior, so he simply ignored him. A bizarre state of peaceful coexistence settled between the two.

On Friday afternoon, the week’s classes at Boya came to an end, and students were allowed to go home for the weekend.

Over the past few days, Lin Huaichen and Wen Xun had been consistently unreachable every night at a certain hour, only to reappear like clockwork at ten the next morning. Yu An had gone from being confused to being used to it; he didn’t even bother sending them messages during those “private” hours anymore.

For this school pickup, Wen Xun had told him in advance that they would be waiting at the school gates. Yu An was in a great mood, his heart already racing toward home.

As soon as the last class ended, Yu An rushed back to the dorms to pack. Fu Yunshu put the Giant-eared Rabbit back in its cage and brought Zhou Xia along.

Zhou Xia didn’t want to leave. He asked in a small voice, “I have a part-time job this weekend. Can I just stay here?”

He came from a single-parent home. After his father remarried, the new family of three lived in harmony, leaving Zhou Xia as an outsider. His father didn’t support him attending high school and stopped providing for his tuition and living expenses once he got into Boya.

Zhou Xia had to rely on scholarships for tuition and part-time work for his daily needs.

Fu Yunshu was firm. “I will compensate you for the money from your job, but you cannot leave my sight. This is my mission. I hope you understand.”

Zhou Xia lowered his head and said nothing. He stole a glance at Yu An, who was packing his things. “Then… can I follow An-an?”

If he had to choose, he much preferred being with Yu An.

Fu Yunshu: “No.”

Zhou Xia pouted, not daring to argue further.

By four o’clock, the school gates were swarming with parents. Yu An was too short to see anything in the crowd, so Fu Yunshu grabbed him by the back of his collar to prevent him from being swept away while searching for the Lin family car.

Zhou Xia’s hand was tied to Fu Yunshu’s, forcing him to follow along like a disgruntled tail.

“By the flowerbed.” Fu Yunshu spotted the Cayenne that Lin Huaichen usually drove and led Yu An toward it.

Yu An practiced his multitasking, waving goodbye to Gu Yixing and Gu Ersheng, who had already found their own car.

Inside the vehicle, Lin Huaichen and Wen Xun spotted Yu An. Lin Huaichen’s face was extremely recognizable in Kyoto, so to avoid unnecessary trouble, he stayed in the car while Wen Xun put on a mask and stepped out.

“Papa!” Yu An’s eyes lit up the moment he saw him. He ran to Wen Xun and happily hugged him around the waist, rubbing his face against the man’s chest. “I missed you so much.”

Wen Xun’s eyes were full of warmth. “Mhm, I missed you too.”

He patted Yu An’s head and then looked up at Fu Yunshu, reaching out to ruffle the boy’s hair as well. “Thanks for looking after our An-an this week, Xiao Fu.”

“We can give you a lift on our way back.”

Fu Yunshu only showed a hint of his true age in front of Wen Xun. His earlobes turned a slight red, and he spoke with a touch of bashfulness. “It’s okay, Uncle Wen. My family sent someone to pick me up.”

Zhou Xia stared longingly at Wen Xun. Fu Yunshu wasn’t going with them, but he wanted to!

Please, just take me away!

Wen Xun noticed Zhou Xia and recognized him immediately. Just as he was about to say something, Fu Yunshu cut in. He offered a polite, gentle smile. “Zhou Xia is a mission given to me by the Base. I have to keep an eye on him at all times.”

Wen Xun: “…It’s been hard on… both of you.”

It was clear these two kids were essentially tormenting each other.

Right then, a middle-aged man with an anxious expression ran over and bowed to Fu Yunshu. “Young Master, the Old Master is waiting for you.”

Fu Yunshu’s gaze darkened slightly. He smiled at Wen Xun and Yu An. “Then I’ll be going. Uncle Wen, An-an, see you later.”

Yu An held Wen Xun’s hand and waved. “Bye-bye, Brother!”

Fu Yunshu turned and left, tugging Zhou Xia along. Zhou Xia let out a tiny, barely audible huff—the kind he hoped Fu Yunshu wouldn’t hear—and followed him into the car.

Only then did the middle-aged man recognize Wen Xun’s identity. He bowed again in fear and trepidation. Wen Xun raised a hand to stop him, and the man nodded before turning to follow Fu Yunshu.

Yu An watched Fu Yunshu’s car pull away, but Wen Xun remained standing there, staring in their direction as if lost in thought. He tugged on Wen Xun’s hand. “Papa?”

“…Let’s go.” Wen Xun snapped back to reality and helped Yu An into the car. He stole one last glance at the receding Fu family vehicle.

The moment Yu An got into the car, Lin Huaichen pulled him into his lap and took two playful nips at his soft cheeks. Yu An pushed him away in protest, covering his face.

“Sigh… An-an, we haven’t seen you in so long. Don’t you miss us?” Lin Huaichen asked in a heartbroken tone. “We were thinking about you every day.”

This time, Yu An didn’t fall for it. He pouted and let out a huff.

“You missed me? Then why didn’t you answer my messages every night? Did you stop thinking about me during those times?”

“Uh…”

Lin Huaichen was speechless. When did this kid become so hard to fool? He’s definitely growing up.

Naturally, adult topics couldn’t be discussed with a minor like Yu An. Lin Huaichen racked his brain for a subject change. “So, An-an, how was school? Was it fun?”

Yu An: “It was okay.”

The conversation was dead in the water again. Lin Huaichen was silent for a moment, feeling a headache coming on for the first time. He looked to Wen Xun for help. Wen Xun pulled Yu An over to sit on his own lap.

Wen Xun looked Yu An up and down. Once he confirmed the boy hadn’t lost weight, he suddenly realized something was wrong. “Where’s Monday? Why didn’t you bring him back?”

Yu An froze. He slowly turned his head to look at Lin Huaichen. “Oh right… Papa, where is my Monday?”

Lin Huaichen’s body stiffened. He asked in disbelief, “An-an, have you been staying in the school dorms all week? You didn’t go back to the villa?”

The villa?

Yu An was confused for a second before he suddenly remembered that Lin Huaichen had bought a villa near the school. The keys were still in his backpack, but he had never stepped foot in it—he’d completely forgotten it existed.

A bad feeling rose in Yu An’s heart, and his voice went soft. “So… Monday is in that villa?”

Lin Huaichen nodded with a complicated expression. He had assumed Yu An would go to the villa to stay; he never imagined the boy would actually live in the dorms. How could such a small space be comfortable?

The “Old Father” felt his heart aching for his son.

Yu An gripped his hands nervously. “Is Monday going to starve to death?”

It had been a whole week.

Lin Huaichen rubbed his temples. “Don’t worry. There’s a housekeeper at the villa specifically to look after you. She’s been taking care of Monday; he won’t go hungry.”

The auntie had been hired to look after Yu An, but she ended up looking after a dog for a week. Lin Huaichen found it hilarious the more he thought about it.

The Cayenne pulled a U-turn to pick up Monday from the villa.

When they arrived, the housekeeper smiled as she led Monday out. She spoke with pride, “Sir, I’ve taken quite good care of your young master. Look at this fur—I’ve been feeding him fish oil every day. Look how shiny and handsome he is!”

“Rest assured, leaving your son with me is the right choice. I’ll always treat him like my own.”

Lin Huaichen’s mouth twitched at the way she referred to Monday. He pointed at the Yu An standing beside him. “This is my son.”

The housekeeper’s mouth fell open with an “Ah.” Her expression turned visibly awkward as she looked at the stunningly beautiful Yu An and then at the tail-wagging Monday. She wanted to cry.

She had honestly thought she was hired to look after the dog. After all, rich people often treated their pets like their own children. Since the employer paid so much, she was more than happy to treat an animal like royalty.

Who knew their son was actually a human?

The auntie gave a bitter smile. Great. I’m going to lose my job.

Lin Huaichen found the misunderstanding amusing. “Our kid is boarding at school lately and doesn’t come back often. I’ll have to trouble you to keep looking after things here.”

Realizing she wasn’t being fired, the auntie beamed. “Of course, sir! You can count on me!”

Monday circled around Yu An. He had clearly been living the high life; he was even wearing a little outfit the auntie had made for him. Seeing Yu An, he wagged his tail furiously and let out a soft whimpering sound.

[Little Master! Little Master! Monday missed you so much! I was so sad I couldn’t even eat!]

Yu An looked at Monday’s visibly rounder physique and doubted the truth of that statement. However, having not seen him for days, Yu An squatted down and hugged Monday around the neck, playing with him for a long while.

After picking up Monday, the family of three didn’t head to Blue Moon Bay. Instead, they went to the old family estate in Kyoto. The old butler was there waiting and gave Yu An a big hug the moment he walked in.

The butler stroked Yu An’s face, his eyes full of pity. “You’ve gotten thin. Studying so hard must be exhausting.”

“Papa just said I got fat,” Yu An said with a chuckle. He decided to be honest. “And I don’t really study that hard. I usually don’t even listen in class.”

The butler was stunned. “Why aren’t you listening?”

“Because I already know everything! Papa taught me.”

The butler laughed and patted his head. “Our An-an is just too smart.”

Once home, Yu An completely relaxed. His exhaustion vanished, and he sprawled lazily on the sofa to watch the sex-ed videos Professor Rong had sent him.

Professor Rong was supposed to come and teach him in person, but the Base had been too busy lately. He’d found time to record a video instead, explaining the physical differences between men and women, as well as the bodily changes that occur during different stages of life.

He also explained how the next generation is produced.

Yu An watched with intense focus. He poked his own throat to feel for an Adam’s apple that hadn’t grown yet, then went to the wall to check his height. He discovered he’d only grown one centimeter since the last time he measured.

Aren’t men supposed to be 175cm on average? When is my 120cm self ever going to get that tall? Yu An felt that growing up was a very distant goal.

Claude was sprawled on the coffee table. Watching Yu An study human development with such concentration, he couldn’t help but speak up.

[An-an, you realize you aren’t human, right?]

Yu An had a delayed realization. Oh right, I’m not human.

[Does our race have sex-ed videos too?]

Claude fell into a bizarre silence. After a long pause, he slowly replied: […Probably not.]

Yu An pouted. [Do you know when I’ll get taller? I’m so short.]

[Maybe… drink more milk?]

Yu An: “…”

Isn’t that just the human way to get taller?!

Claude truly didn’t understand these things. He’d only ever looked after two cubs: Chausier and Yu An. The former didn’t need any care—you just let him out to eat his fill, and he grew like he was on steroids.

Yu An, however, was meticulously cared for. Sometimes the cub was too picky to eat Xenogenics, and Claude would even let him drink a bit of his own blood. Yet, the boy simply wouldn’t grow. He’d been stuck in this phase for years without entering his growth period—a total “Shorty.”

Claude couldn’t figure out why, but one thing made him happy: Yu An’s intelligence was always high, far better than Chausier or Soland had been back in the day.

Once Yu An realized the video wasn’t useful for him, he lost interest. Soon, he was curling up on the sofa, drifting off to sleep. Lin Huaichen and Wen Xun waited until they were sure he’d finished the videos before coming out of the bedroom.

Lin Huaichen sighed in relief. “Now the little treasure won’t ask us what we’re doing at night anymore.”

“Don’t get your hopes up too early.” Wen Xun looked at the sleeping Yu An and sighed. “Who knows how much he actually understood.”

At dinner that night, Lin Huaichen tried to prod him. “So, An-an, what did you learn from Uncle Rong’s lesson?”

Yu An recited the contents from memory. “…I know what you guys are doing at night now. You’re making a baby. Uncle Rong said that’s a normal reproductive behavior in biology.”

“In nature, humans and penguins can find pleasure in mating. However, any mating not for the purpose of reproduction is just satisfying personal desires—a form of seeking pleasure. So, are you guys doing that too?”

The phrasing was difficult for Yu An, so he simply used Rong Shili’s original words.

Lin Huaichen and Wen Xun: “…”

In that moment, they both felt the urge to murder Rong Shili. Teach the lesson if you must, but why add your own ‘extra’ commentary?!

Translator’s Note: In this chapter, the term 尋歡作樂 (xĂşn huān zuò lè) is used. It translates to “seeking pleasure” or “indulging in sensual joys.” It’s a bit of a sophisticated term for a child to use, which makes the scene even more awkward for his parents!

Also, the “Auntie” at the villa refers to Monday as the 少爷 (shĂ o yĂŠ), or “Young Master.” This is a common way in high-end Chinese households to refer to the son of the house, but here it’s used humorously for the pet.
