Little Monster Cub Chapter 39

Chapter 39

The word “simp” was very unfamiliar to a little fellow like Yu An, who didn’t surf the internet. After thinking it over, he asked blankly, “Is he the same species as Monday?”

But the Principal clearly looked like a human; how could he be a dog? Yu An felt a headache coming on from the confusion.

“Woof! Woof!” Monday heard Yu An mention him and ran back. Excitedly, when Yu An placed a hand on his head to pet him, Monday nuzzled his hand affectionately and gave it a lick.

“Well… a ‘simp’ isn’t an actual dog. The focus is on the ‘simping’ part.” Little White glanced at Monday and explained to Yu An, “Like him, someone who pampers someone they can’t have is called a simp.”

“Who did the Principal Uncle simp for?”

“Your dad.”

“???”

Yu An’s eyes went wide. “Who?!”

“The younger Mr. Wen in your house.” Little White flipped through the files, laughing so hard it nearly tipped over. “If Patriarch Lin hadn’t interfered back then, he would be your father right now.”

Yu An didn’t want to change fathers; he felt his current two papas were perfect. In an instant, the little guy became incredibly wary of Xu Yening, terrified that he would somehow replace Lin Huaichen and become a father Yu An wasn’t familiar with.

As if sensing something, Xu Yening turned around. He locked eyes with Yu An for two or three seconds. Just as he was about to offer the cute little fellow a smile, the boy pouted and turned to run away.

Xu Yening was utterly confused. Everything had been fine just a moment ago. Looking at that aggrieved little expression, it was as if someone had done something to make the boy dislike and avoid them.

“Whose child is that?” Xu Yening asked Teacher Yao. “He’s quite cute.”

Teacher Yao had already done his homework over the past few days. “He’s the young master of the Wen and Lin families.”

“The Wen family?” Xu Yening frowned, asking in surprise, “Ruoyi’s child? I remember she’s only in her early twenties. Is her child already this old?”

Teacher Yao gave an awkward smile. “No, you’ve misunderstood. He is the child of Mr. Wen Xun and Patriarch Lin, not Miss Ruoyi’s. I heard that young lady is still abroad.”

…Wen Xun’s child.

Xu Yening felt like he’d been struck by lightning. This news was a massive blow to him. Principal Xu, who had just earned his doctorate and returned home in glory, found his eyes turning red against his will. Even his voice took on a nasal quality.

He looked stubbornly at Teacher Yao. “Let me ask you, what is Lin Huaichen’s current degree?”

This was a difficult question for Teacher Yao. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, wondering what kind of madness had gripped his new boss. “Well, well… Principal, how would I know what kind of degree Patriarch Lin has?”

Besides, the man was rich; what did he need a degree for?

Xu Yening wouldn’t listen. He pulled out his phone and called the only contact he still had on his list, Ruoyi. Ignoring her “warm” greetings, he got straight to the point. “What is Lin Huaichen’s current degree?”

“Are you f*cking insane? Calling me at 3:00 AM… A degree? Why are you asking that? That illiterate guy should still just be a Master’s candidate.”

Xu Yening froze for three seconds. “…Didn’t you say I needed a doctorate to enter your family’s door?”

“Who told you that? My family doesn’t have such a stupid rule.”

At this point, how could Xu Yening not understand that this was all a ruse by a certain thief surnamed Lin? Grief welled up in his heart. He waved for the other teachers to leave and sat alone on the leather sofa in his office, staring blankly into space.

“Lin Huaichen, you b*stard!”

On the other side, Yu An had learned the story from Little White. “So Papa Lin intentionally told the Principal Uncle that only doctors could enter Papa’s family, so the Principal Uncle went abroad to study, and Papa Lin married Papa Wen?”

Little White was overjoyed. “Exactly. Capitalists have black hearts. But even if Xu Yening had stayed, he wouldn’t have been a match for Old Lin.”

Yu An was puzzled. “But Uncle Xu is very handsome too.”

Handsome people should have equal chances.

“Because the three families were neighbors. Old Lin and Master Wen are about the same age, and Xu Yening is three years younger. He used to play with Master Ruoyi all the time. Every time Old Lin mentioned Ruoyi, he’d include Xu Yening’s name. He even bought gifts in pairs.”

Yu An hadn’t realized the severity of the situation yet and gave a silly smile. “Papa Lin is actually quite nice, then, buying gifts for Uncle Xu.”

Little White sneered. “Oh, he was nice alright—so nice that Xu Yening became a biological brother. People would have thought Xu Yening was Master Wen’s blood brother, just like Ruoyi.”

Once you’re a “brother,” you can’t harbor any other intentions. Lin Huaichen had been pulling strings behind the scenes, and at the time, none of them had noticed a thing.

In the end, Xu Yening went abroad to bury himself in books, focusing entirely on his degree so he could “enter the Wen family,” while Lin Huaichen focused entirely on Wen Xun and successfully brought the beauty home.

They both had bright futures.

Yu An’s mind was simple; he didn’t understand Lin Huaichen’s labyrinthine schemes. Hearing Little White say his fathers treated Xu Yening like a brother, he really thought he was another Ruoyi.

“So should I call him ‘Uncle’ next time?”

Little White: “…Better not. What if he gets embarrassed and angry and hits you?”

Would calling someone ‘Uncle’ get him hit?

Yu An thought this really was a strange and prickly person. If he didn’t want to be called that, then so be it. He had an Auntie anyway; whether he had an Uncle didn’t really matter.

Guided by Monday, Yu An caught up to those strange classmates. Behind the classroom building was a small woods with stone tables and chairs for students to rest. Most importantly, the woods were the only place in the entire school without cameras.

Consequently, many older students came here to do things that violated school rules. Yu An saw several middle schoolers smoking, the acrid smoke making people cough.

Yu An wrinkled his small nose in disgust and continued deeper into the woods. Nearby was an artificial lake surrounded by an iron fence to prevent students from entering and risking danger.

Yu An noticed that a section of the fence had been pushed down, forming a small tunnel. “Monday, are they really inside?”

Monday nodded repeatedly. [They’re there, they’re there. The rabbit is there too.]

“The rabbit… is it Brother Zhou Xia?”

Monday was confused. [It’s… a rabbit.]

He didn’t know Zhou Xia’s name, only that the person had the scent of a rabbit—therefore, he was a rabbit.

Monday didn’t need to say more; Yu An sensed a restless magnetic field fluctuation belonging to Zhou Xia. This meant Zhou Xia’s current situation was very bad.

Yu An didn’t have time to think. He anxiously ran through the fence. After searching for a bit, he saw several students in school uniforms holding another student’s head under the lake water. The student was struggling desperately, sending water splashing everywhere.

The student holding him laughed arrogantly. “Consider this a free bath. No need to thank us; it’s just what classmates do for each other.”

“Don’t think that just because you’ve latched onto the young masters of the Fu and Gu families, you can actually reach the heavens. A person needs self-awareness. Don’t covet things you shouldn’t.”

“Look at you—why are you so useless? I could crush you with one hand, hahahaha!”

They held Zhou Xia’s head underwater, letting him thrash around, then pulled him up just before he suffocated.

Zhou Xia was soaked to the bone, water clogging his nose. He’d barely have a chance to gasp for fresh air before being pushed back down. The terrifying sensation of suffocation hit him again.

Yu An stared at them, his hands and feet turning cold. “Are they… are they killing him?”

Little White flew to his shoulder, its tone urgent. “No, they’re bullying him! Little Master, hurry and save the little rabbit, or he’s going to be bullied to death!”

Yu An snapped out of it. There were five or six students, all of them taller and meaner than him. He racked his brain for a strategy, and suddenly, a spark of inspiration hit him.

“The Dean is on patrol!”

Every day, the Dean would lead a large group of teachers on patrol to catch rule-breaking students. The woods were a key focus area for him.

Sure enough, at those words, the students’ expressions turned to panic. They let go of Zhou Xia and fled in all directions.

Yu An rushed forward to help Zhou Xia up. Zhou Xia was slumped on the ground, gasping for air. Water dripped from his hair, and his eyes were bloodshot. It was impossible to tell if the liquid on his face was tears or lake water; he looked piteously bedraggled.

Yu An anxiously tried to pull him up, but he was short and lacked strength. He couldn’t get Zhou Xia to his feet. In the end, Zhou Xia had to push himself up.

“Your eyes are all red. I’ll take you to the infirmary,” Yu An said, pulling on Zhou Xia’s hand. “The water here is dirty and full of bacteria. You need to disinfect.”

“And those classmates who bullied you—we have to tell the teacher. They’re too much. How can they treat someone like that?”

Yu An grumbled indignantly, but Zhou Xia didn’t say a word, his head lowered so his expression was hidden.

But soon, a flurry of footsteps echoed. The boys who realized they’d been tricked ran back in a rage. Seeing Yu An and Zhou Xia, they began to shout abuse.

“Dammit! You’re the meddling brat who lied to us, aren’t you?! Believe it or not, I’ll beat you too!”

Yu An gasped. Without a second thought, he grabbed Zhou Xia’s hand and ran. “Run, run! They’re so mean!”

Though if it came to a real fight, Yu An had Monday and the others and wouldn’t be afraid of a few ordinary students, those people looked so fierce. Yu An had never seen such menacing individuals and was immediately thrown into a panic.

Yu An led Zhou Xia in a run while the bullies chased them. By the time they ran out of the woods and into the view of other students, the group still hadn’t given up, pursuing them relentlessly.

“What’s going on?”

“Holy crap! Are the upperclassmen bullying a junior?! Go find the Dean!”

“Which class are those guys from? I’ve never seen them.”

“That junior in front looks like a new student. Don’t just stand there, stop them!”

Kind-hearted students stepped in to intervene, but the aggressive boys didn’t care. Instead, they pushed them to the ground. Seeing this, the onlookers’ tempers flared.

The students descended into a brawl. Yu An was squeezed between a forest of long legs, unable to even see the path. At that moment, Zhou Xia finally acted, pulling Yu An into his arms and shielding him from the others.

A pair of snow-white ears slowly emerged from the top of Zhou Xia’s head. Yu An’s eyes went wide. He immediately grabbed Zhou Xia’s head, covering the large ears. Luckily, everyone else was busy fighting and didn’t notice them.

Yu An whispered into Zhou Xia’s ear, “Your rabbit ears popped out! Hurry and pull them back!”

Zhou Xia tried, but his brow was furrowed with anxiety. “I can’t. They won’t go back.”

“Don’t get so worked up. Try again.” Yu An mimicked an adult’s manner, giving Zhou Xia’s back a soothing stroke. However, the ears remained out.

Left with no choice, Yu An had to take off his school jacket and use it to cover the ears.

At that moment, Monday jumped out of Yu An’s pocket. He was so small that no one noticed him. He locked onto a target bullying Yu An, lowered his body, and delivered a sharp bite to the student’s leg.

Unfortunately, the boy’s scream was swallowed by the surrounding noise. No one noticed his abnormality.

Monday bit them all one by one, then hopped back into Yu An’s pocket with satisfaction, giving Little White a happy high-five. Claude spared them a glance before looking at Zhou Xia, who was holding Yu An.

This rabbit seems to be turning into a big rabbit. An adult Great-eared Rabbit is a carnivore.

Soon, teachers arrived in a hurry with campus security to disperse the brawling students. The Dean, whose scalp was visible through his few remaining hairs, shouted a stern lecture. “What are you all doing?! Do you even look like students anymore?!”

“Homeroom teachers, take your students away! Every single person involved is to write a 3,000-word self-reflection report and have it on my desk by Wednesday!”

“Those who started this, step forward! The surveillance here shows everything clearly. Don’t make me drag you out—it won’t be pretty.”

The noisy crowd eventually dwindled to about a dozen. The boy who had thrown the first punch explained the situation to the Dean, stating he was acting as a ‘Good Samaritan’ because the other guys were bullying a junior. He only fought because he couldn’t stand the sight of it.

Yu An also stepped forward, nervously clutching his hem. He pointed at the five bullies, his voice trembling slightly. “They bullied Brother Zhou Xia first. They held Brother Zhou Xia’s head underwater. They’re the bad guys.”

The Dean’s expression shifted. He glanced at the soaked Zhou Xia and then glared at the five boys. His voice was full of fury. “Call your parents! To think you’d dare hold a classmate underwater—if an accident had happened, that’s a human life! You are challenging the law!”

The five boys exchanged looks. One of them, unrepentant, shoved a security guard and pointed at the Dean. “You don’t have the right to lecture me. I’m not a student at your school.”

“Your school even keeps dogs that bite people! How are you going to settle that?!”

With that, the boy rolled up his pant leg in a rage. On his calf was a distinct bite mark. However, the mark was incredibly miniature, though every tooth print was clearly visible.

The Dean glanced at it and gave a cold laugh. “Was that a bite from a puppy that hasn’t even been weaned yet? Besides, our school doesn’t keep dogs at all. Don’t go pinning everything on us—we have the video footage.”

“Then go check the video! It was clearly a dog! I saw it—it was a little dog only as big as a fist!”

Yu An’s heart jumped. He pushed the triumphant Monday back into his pocket and covered it. [Don’t make a sound.]

Monday’s tail drooped. [Oh.]

Why didn’t Master praise me?

[Thank you, Monday.] Yu An knew he had done it for him. [But don’t run out secretly anymore. You’re so small; what if someone steps on you?]

Monday’s tail immediately perked up again. His voice was jubilant. [I won’t! Monday can get big! I won’t get stepped on~]

The Dean argued with the boys for a long while, concluding that the marks on their legs were just a clumsy attempt at a scam. Their school simply did not have dogs!

Seeing their insistence, the Dean immediately pulled Yu An and Zhou Xia behind him to hide them. He gave the security guards a look. “Then send them to the police station. Remember to take photos of the scene for compensation later. Also, remind the officers to pay special attention to these guys’ brains.”

The five boys: “…”

“You’re the one with a f*cking brain problem!”

“Who are you mocking with that tone? Your school’s dog bit someone! Pay up, now!!”

The security guards ignored their shouting and hauled them off to the police station. Meanwhile, Yu An and Zhou Xia were taken by the Dean to the Principal’s office.

When they pushed the door open, Yu An immediately saw Xu Yening sitting behind his desk, looking listless. Unlike his earlier demeanor—smiling and as fresh as a spring breeze—Xu Yening now looked as if he’d suffered a major blow. He was wilted like a frosted cabbage.

The Dean gave two fake coughs to alert Xu Yening. Xu Yening barely lifted his eyes to spare them a glance. When his gaze landed on Yu An, he slowly sat up straight. “What happened?”

He’d only been away for a short while, yet this little fellow had managed to get himself into a wretched state. His pale face was smudged with dirt, his clothes were mostly soaked, and they looked wrinkled as if they’d been tugged on.

Xu Yening perked up, struggling to suppress a smile. “This is… you got into a fight?”

Yu An wrinkled his face. “No…”

Xu Yening acted as if he hadn’t heard him. He appeared excited as he turned to the Dean. “Then what are you waiting for? Call his parents immediately!”

Yu An: “…?”

Wait, he wasn’t even the one fighting; why call his parents?

Little White peeked its head out secretly. “Heh, men. I saw through your scheme long ago.”
