Little Monster Cub Chapter 45

Chapter 45

Yu An was lifted high up by Xu Yening, who even maliciously swung him a couple of times, making Yu An puff his small cheeks in anger.

“Woof woof!”

Monday barked fiercely at Xu Yening, but its miniature size meant that even adopting an attack posture carried little threat, only making people find it adorable.

Xu Yening cast a fleeting glance at Monday, the corners of his lips curling up. “This little dog Xenogenic you’re raising is quite protective of its master.”

Yu An felt a shared sense of honor. “Of course, Monday is the best dog.”

Hearing this, Monday happily sat down, its small tail wagging side to side, looking incredibly proud. For a moment, it even forgot to keep acting fierce towards Xu Yening.

Observing all this from the sidelines, Tu Jiu shivered in Yu An’s arms. It glanced at Klold and, seeing that He had absolutely no reaction, looked at Xu Yening with a completely different gaze.

It originally thought this was just an ordinary human, but this guy actually dared to bring up the Ushatos cub right in front of an adult Ushatos. What a terrifying existence this must be.

At this moment, a tall man walked over. Looking at Yu An, he frowned slightly and bowed respectfully to Xu Yening. “Eldest Young Master, do you need me to take this child away?”

Hearing this, Yu An furrowed his small brows in resistance and began to struggle. “Not leaving, not leaving…”

“Behave.” Xu Yening lightly patted his small bottom. Yu An immediately widened his eyes in shock, mist gathering in his eyes. Even his Papa had never spanked his bottom!

Just as Yu An was on the verge of crying, he heard Xu Yening say to the man, “No need, just let him stay here. Tsk tsk tsk, look how red this little face is, looking as if someone bullied you.”

Yu An forced his tears back and gave Xu Yening a resentful glare. He was so angry. The person bullying him was clearly the man standing right in front of him, yet he was playing the victim and crying thief.

Because he was too focused on looking at Xu Yening, Yu An completely missed Klold’s burning gaze. All the Ushatos cubs Klold had encountered before had lawless personalities; fighting and causing trouble were their daily routines.

A cub like Yu An, who would cry pitifully after just a light smack on the bottom, was a first for Klold.

But looking at the little guy with his small mouth pressed together in a pitiable manner, tears welling in his eyes, striking such a pathetic pose, Klold’s heart was caught in a deep contradiction. On one hand was his instinct to protect the cub, and on the other, he was struck by cute aggression, really wanting to poke him.

If he poked him until he fell over, the kid would probably cry pitifully again, right? Klold fell into a psychological dilemma.

Yu An remained blissfully unaware of Klold’s malicious thoughts. He stared warily at the man who was slow to leave, unconsciously grabbing the hem of Xu Yening’s shirt.

Xu Yening glanced at his fair, tender little hand, supported his small bottom, hoisted him a little higher, and told the man, “Go do your work.”

The man looked troubled. “But… inside is full of… won’t it negatively affect this child?”

Xu Yening let out a laugh. “A little radish head who grew up in the Base since he was a kid, do you think Xenogenics will affect him?”

The way the man looked at Yu An instantly changed. “So he’s a Second-Generation. My apologies, I spoke out of turn.”

Generally speaking, children born from the union of two high-level ability users had a very high chance of being Second-Generation ability users. These Second-Generations didn’t require Xenogenic infection; they were born with abilities that were also much more stable.

Yu An knew in his heart that he wasn’t a Second-Generation. Among the people he knew, only Gu Yixing and Gu Ersheng were Second-Generation ability users, but their current rank was only B-rank.

Yu An was a little Xenogenic, but Yu An couldn’t tell anyone.

Regarding the man’s misunderstanding, Yu An chose to remain silent, pretending not to hear. He wasn’t good at lying, so it was better to let them keep misunderstanding from the start.

Xu Yening fell silent for a moment, suddenly lifting Yu An up to face him, his expression suspicious. “Are you really Xuezhang‘s biological baby?”

But could men really have children? Xu Yening’s rationality told him that according to current technological levels, it was impossible. But Yu An was just too similar to Wen Xun in every aspect.

Whether it was becoming listless when a topic they didn’t want to discuss came up, or the way they held grudges secretly, they were exactly the same as Wen Xun.

Yu An’s eyes widened. “Boys can’t have babies. Only girls can have babies.”

Even he knew this point. How could a school principal like Xu Yening ask such a very silly question?

Meeting Yu An’s gaze that questioned his intelligence, the veins on Xu Yening’s forehead throbbed. “Let’s just say my brain short-circuited and I overthought things. Now, pretend you didn’t hear anything.”

Yu An lowered his head and fiddled with Tu Jiu’s large ears, ignoring Xu Yening. Xu Yening simply held him with one arm while looking at the magnetic field fluctuation chart on the computer.

Class 1 of the third year, which was Zhou Xia and Fu Yunshu’s class, currently had both its front and back doors wide open. Yet, one could only see a thick, viscous blackness inside. Staring at it for too long caused a sense of dizziness, as if one was about to be sucked into a black hole.

The technician frowned deeply, his eyes behind thick lenses filled with worry. “We cannot probe the situation inside the classroom right now. According to the information sent from the Base, the suspect, Zhou Xia, is accompanied by a rabbit with a spatial ability. This black hole is very likely the rabbit’s ability…”

When rabbits were mentioned, Xu Yening glanced at Tu Jiu in Yu An’s arms. He recognized immediately that this was also a small Xenogenic, and couldn’t help but wonder if this rabbit, being of the same species, might be related to Zhou Xia’s rabbit.

[Ying ying~]

Tu Jiu cowered in Yu An’s arms. In its heart, Xu Yening was an existence comparable to an adult Ushatos, and it was terrified he would suddenly decide to eat a rabbit.

Yu An hugged Tu Jiu tight, pursing his lips and staring back at Xu Yening.

Xu Yening casually shifted his gaze away. “I’m not going to steal it from you, why are you so nervous?”

“What other methods do we have to enter the black hole right now?”

The technician typed on the keyboard, shaking his head gravely. “As of now, there is no way.”

They had attempted to send ability users inside to investigate, but without exception, the moment they passed through the black hole, the signals from the ability users completely vanished, leaving only the fluctuating magnetic field graph on the computer screen.

In the ensuing minutes, Yu An watched them throw things into the black hole one after another, then gather around the computer to analyze, only to end up looking disappointed.

The technician sighed in defeat. “If it wasn’t for the safety of the students inside, I’d throw a bomb in just to see. We wouldn’t even be able to hear a sound, would we?”

“Damn it, it’s just a B-rank rabbit, why is it so tough to deal with? I’m going to call the Base and request a few more people.”

Yu An lay on Xu Yening’s shoulder, staring worriedly at the black hole, feeling a wave of disappointment. He had originally thought that with adults around, nothing bad would happen, but seeing it now, these people didn’t seem to be of much use.

Suddenly, Yu An felt something move in his arms. He looked down and happened to make eye contact with Tu Jiu. Finally, the gears in Yu An’s brain clicked into the right place.

Right, he almost forgot about Tu Jiu.

Tu Jiu’s three-lobed mouth twitched, trembling as it asked:

[L-Lord Ushatos, do you need something?]

Yu An pointed at the pitch-black mass that had Xu Yening and the others at their wits’ end.

[Can you make that black stuff disappear?]

Tu Jiu felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted. As long as it wasn’t going to be eaten, anything was fine. It hurriedly nodded its small head.

[I can, I can. I’ll go fix it right away. I’m the best at this.]

Tu Jiu hopped down from Yu An’s arms. The men guarding both sides of the black hole were too tall and didn’t notice Tu Jiu’s presence. By the time they realized Tu Jiu was there, they saw this small rabbit using its two paws to scratch and pry at the black hole.

“Where did this rabbit come from? Stop making a mess here.” The man picked Tu Jiu up by the scruff of its neck, examined it for a moment, and noticed the anomaly. “Hm? A rabbit Xenogenic.”

The commotion drew Xu Yening’s attention. He glanced at the rabbit and immediately shifted his gaze to Yu An. “Keep an eye on your rabbit.”

Yu An freed Tu Jiu from the man’s grasp, hurriedly explaining, “It’s going to lead us inside. It’s a good bunny, not a bad bunny.”

Xu Yening bent down in surprise, examining Tu Jiu. “Is this rabbit the same breed as Zhou Xia’s?”

Yu An nodded repeatedly.

Xu Yening nodded, waving his hand to make the people standing around step back. “Then let it try.”

Zhou Xia’s Great-eared Rabbit was the first of its kind discovered to date. They knew very little about it, and currently had no solution for the black hole it created. The condition of the students inside remained unknown.

To rescue the students as quickly as possible, Xu Yening had no choice but to let Yu An’s rabbit try.

The others looked skeptical, but due to Xu Yening’s authority, they didn’t dare speak up. They simultaneously took a step back, clearing a path, but their eyes remained fixed on Yu An and Tu Jiu. Could these two seemingly fragile little guys really do it?

Yu An encouragingly patted Tu Jiu’s head and placed it in front of the black hole. Tu Jiu diligently hopped forward a step, seemingly rubbing some spit onto the black hole, and then extended its small paws to scratch wildly.

Under Tu Jiu’s claws, the black hole gradually began to fade, the viscous blackness slowly dissipating. Yu An’s tense nerves gradually relaxed, a smile appearing on his delicate face.

The adults were utterly shocked. They exchanged glances for a few seconds, forced to believe that this little rabbit truly had skills… and looking at it now, it was indeed much more capable than the few of them.

Xu Yening scoffed. “Worse than a little brat.”

The words “little brat” poked at Yu An’s nerves. Yu An curled his lip, muttering in protest, “I am not a little brat.”

In two more years he would be ten, soon hitting double digits in age. He was definitely not some little brat.

Faced with the little brat’s inexplicable competitiveness, Xu Yening remained expressionless. “I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about that rabbit.”

Yu An immediately cheered up again, completely not considering whether Xu Yening was just humoring him. He was truly simple and easy to fool.

Soon, Tu Jiu tore through the thick blackness with a swipe of its claw, revealing faint light. Tu Jiu’s face lit up with joy, and it doubled its efforts, its small paws moving at lightning speed. Its round eyes were filled with excitement; it was going to perform a meritorious deed! It wouldn’t be eaten!

Right at that moment, a white figure flashed past from the other side of the darkness, and the ink-like blackness began to turn viscous again. Tu Jiu stared blankly for a moment, then stubbornly began to dig once more, its two paws churning frantically.

Yu An crouched beside Tu Jiu, watching the black hole layer thin out and thicken back up repeatedly. He stared thoughtfully at Tu Jiu’s small paws.

In the next second, he lifted Tu Jiu with one hand, reached his other hand straight into the dark layer, and yanked out a chubby, fleshy rabbit.

Tu Jiu angrily smacked the fat rabbit on the forehead.

[I knew there was an idiot ruining things! You silly rabbit, you dare to fill the hole while I’m digging it! Believe it or not, I’ll slap you to death with my ears!]

Although Tu Wu was an older brother, it wasn’t very useful. Threatened by its younger brother, it covered its eyes with its two large ears. It was a tiny ball but felt remarkably heavy, sobbing with little hiccups. Yu An’s arm was getting sore from holding it up.

[Wuuuuuuu… I didn’t know it was you… Lao Yao told me to do it… You know me, I can’t beat anyone in a fight.]

Tu Wu’s voice was deep and resonant, and its crying was loud enough to act as a stereo system, continuously echoing in Yu An’s mind. Yu An found it annoying and gave it a shake. “Stop crying, or I’m going to get angry.”

Xu Yening glanced at Yu An, then turned his gaze to Tu Wu. No matter how he looked at it, this rabbit just seemed a bit listless. Was it crying? But how did Yu An know?

Yu An remained unaware of Xu Yening’s scrutiny, as Tu Wu’s crying grew louder instead of fading. The noise was maddeningly irritating. If Tu Jiu hadn’t been set to the side by Yu An, it would have already rushed over to beat Tu Wu up.

Yu An was out of ideas. He turned to look at the adults, but these people completely lacked self-awareness and made no move to help him. Yu An sighed and simply clamped his hand over Tu Wu’s mouth.

Unfortunately, Tu Wu didn’t vocalize with its mouth; it relied on its own mental power fluctuations. Covering its mouth was useless. Finally, even Klold was annoyed to death. He poked His small head out from Yu An’s pocket, glaring at Tu Wu as if looking at a dead object.

Tu Wu met His gaze unexpectedly. In an instant, the crying stopped abruptly. The terror weak Xenogenics felt towards their natural predators was etched into their bones. Upon seeing Klold, every hair on Tu Wu’s body stood on end.

Klold had no intention of doing anything to it. With the noise gone, He simply retreated back into the pocket to sleep.

Before Tu Wu could even relax, it suddenly realized there was another dangerous aura nearby, and it was extremely close. Tu Wu warily raised its chubby little face, looking around, and ended up locking eyes with Yu An.

Yu An looked down at Tu Wu, confused by its little gaze, and stared back in bewilderment.

In all fairness, Tu Wu was cuter than Tu Jiu—a chubby little ball with a silly appearance. When it stared blankly at people, its cuteness could easily melt someone’s heart.

Yu An couldn’t help but pet its head. “What’s wrong?”

In a flash, Tu Wu’s eyes widened, and it propped up the upper half of its body.

[L-Lord Ushatos! Ying ying ying——!]

It dragged out its final note exceptionally long, its entire body leaning backward, trying to get as far away from Yu An as possible. But this fat rabbit moved clumsily and had a terrible psychological tolerance. After whimpering for a while, its head lolled to the side, its eyes rolled shut, and it stopped moving.

Yu An was utterly confused. “…What’s wrong with it?”

Tu Jiu felt that this stupid brother had utterly disgraced their old rabbit family. It covered its face with its large ears.

[It fainted from fright.]

Yu An: “…”

Was he really that scary?

Translator’s Note: Tu Wu really takes the cake for dramatic fainting. We’ve got a whole rabbit family here now!

  • Second-Generation (二代): As Xu Yening explains, Second-Generation ability users are born with stable powers passed down from their parents, instead of needing to mutate or get infected. Yu An is letting them misunderstand because it covers up his real identity!
  • Tu Wu (兔五): “Rabbit Five” – joining his younger brother “Rabbit Nine” (Tu Jiu).

The rabbits trying to undo each other’s work is absolute chaos. Until next time!
