Chapter 63: Why Should Liang Sheng Be Angry at Him!
“You two eat. I’m full.”
The Old Master put down his chopsticks. Liang Sheng hadn’t eaten much. In the past, the Old Master would have instructed Shen Xingyu to make sure Liang Sheng finished his food, but now he said nothing. With a cold expression, he pushed his wheelchair away.
Liang Sheng clearly felt it too. He felt helpless and a bit dejected, unable to help but wonder if it was because the indecent photos had affected the Old Master.
It was all his fault…
Overcome with self-reproach, Liang Sheng couldn’t eat any more.
He picked at his rice. Seeing the greasy braised pork in his bowl, his stomach began to feel uncomfortable again.
Shen Xingyu saw this. Without a word, he took away the rice in front of him and replaced it with a bowl of clean rice.
“I don’t want it.”
Liang Sheng pushed it away coldly, then petulantly ate two bites of the rice that had been touched by oil. A wave of nausea instantly surged from his stomach to his throat. He hurriedly threw down his chopsticks, covered his mouth, and stumbled toward the bathroom.
“Shengsheng…”
Shen Xingyu’s heart skipped a beat. He immediately followed him nervously, but the door slammed shut.
No matter how he turned the handle, he couldn’t open it; it must have been locked from the inside.
He wanted to knock on the door, but he was afraid of disturbing the Old Master.
For some reason, ever since he found out Liang Sheng was sick, he had become very anxious about him. Even if he lost sight of him for a second, he would feel uneasy.
“Shengsheng, you…”
Shen Xingyu’s words trailed off.
Words of concern were suddenly stuck in his throat. He felt a bit embarrassed and awkward. In the past, he had always been indifferent toward this person; suddenly expressing concern felt very unfamiliar.
Several violent sounds of dry heaving came from the bathroom.
Hearing them made Shen Xingyu feel miserable.
He pressed against the door, his brow furrowed. He desperately wanted to know how Liang Sheng was, but he was too embarrassed to ask.
How useless!
Inside the bathroom, Liang Sheng leaned over the sink, vomiting until his world spun. In the end, he could only vomit up a pool of sour bile.
After vomiting, his entire body felt drained.
He splashed water over his face and looked at himself in the mirror. He was thin, exhausted, and his eyes were lifeless. His skin was so pale he looked like a dead person. He was even startled by his own appearance.
This… was this him?
In disbelief, Liang Sheng raised a hand to his face. He was so cold he couldn’t stop himself from shivering.
Although he had been tired and his complexion was poor before, he at least had some meat on his bones, unlike now when he was nothing but skin and bones.
It seemed this illness was becoming increasingly severe.
He didn’t know how much longer he could live.
If he was about to die, he’d just find a place to hide.
Thinking this, Liang Sheng walked out unsteadily.
As the door opened, the man who had been waiting anxiously outside immediately approached him. He was clearly very worried, but he stammered for a long time, not knowing how to start. He also knew that it was because of him that Liang Sheng’s condition had worsened, and his heart was filled with guilt. Thus, after a long silence, he finally squeezed out the words:
“Are you… alright?”
“Thanks to you, I’m not dead.”
Liang Sheng didn’t even look at him as he continued to walk forward. Perhaps because he had vomited so violently just now, his legs felt weak. He swayed and almost fell, but Shen Xingyu caught him just in time.
“Let go of me! I don’t need your help!”
Liang Sheng pushed him away weakly. Right now, even the slightest physical contact with him felt disgusting!
Shen Xingyu’s expression darkened. Seeing how he was stumbling forward, without a word, he stepped up and picked him up in a horizontal carry.
Liang Sheng was startled. He was afraid of heights and instinctively wrapped his arms around the man’s neck. Once he regained his senses, he struggled forcefully:
“What are you doing?! Put me down!”
“Don’t make a scene. It wouldn’t be good if Lao-ye-ye saw you like this.”
Shen Xingyu warned in a low voice. He glanced indifferently at the person in his arms. Seeing his pale little face with tear tracks, although he was habitually cold on the surface, a secret pain began to ache in his heart.
He didn’t understand what heartache was; he just instinctively held Liang Sheng tighter and walked quickly toward the room.
Liang Sheng was also afraid the Old Master would hear him, so he didn’t dare shout anymore. But being held by Shen Xingyu like this, smelling the cold pine scent on the man, he felt uncomfortable all over. His mouth was pressed tight, and his face was flushed with anger as he turned his head away, full of resentment and grievance.
Shen Xingyu carefully placed him on the bed. Without a word, he turned to get some medicine and water.
Liang Sheng sat up. Looking at his back, he finally saw a trace of what a husband should be like, and he felt a sudden pang of bitterness.
Too late.
Everything was too late.
Why hadn’t he treated him well before?
Now that he finally knew how to keep him, he no longer loved him.
Shen Xingyu saw him leaning against the headboard like a lifeless wooden puppet. All emotion was gone from his eyes. In the past, he would look at him with a gaze full of love, but now there was only calm—a terrifying calm.
“Shengsheng?”
He frowned, unable to stop himself from calling out.
Liang Sheng slowly raised his eyes, quietly waiting for him to continue.
Shen Xingyu suddenly felt a sense of loss. His heart felt empty, as if he had lost something important.
He didn’t want to think about it anymore. He held the water and medicine in front of Liang Sheng. “Take your medicine.”
“I won’t.”
Liang Sheng turned his head away. Just seeing the medicine made him want to vomit. It wouldn’t be so bad if he just let himself die.
“If you don’t take it, do you want me to feed you?”
Shen Xingyu raised an eyebrow. If Liang Sheng still wouldn’t cooperate, he would have no choice but to use forceful means.
“You!”
Liang Sheng’s face flushed with anger.
“Hmm?”
Shen Xingyu hummed lightly, looking as if he meant what he said. He specifically held the water glass forward, giving him a choice.
Liang Sheng remembered that whenever he had resisted in the past, he would be punished severely, and he couldn’t help but shiver.
“I’ll take it! You scoundrel!”
He glared at the man, muttering that Shen Xingyu was no good, but his hands still obediently took the medicine.
Looking at the colorful pills in his palm, he furrowed his brows. Although he was very reluctant, he still closed his eyes, tilted his head back, and swallowed the pills, washing them down with water with difficulty.
Seeing that he had finished, Shen Xingyu picked up a tissue, wanting to help him wipe away the water at the corner of his mouth. Liang Sheng wasn’t used to this sudden behavior and moved away in fright.
Shen Xingyu didn’t know why he had wanted to do that either. He awkwardly withdrew his hand, cleared his throat, and changed the subject: “You didn’t eat much tonight. If you get hungry later, let me know.”
Liang Sheng gave a disdainful snort. He picked up his own pillow and blanket and walked out.
“Where are you going?”
Shen Xingyu immediately reached out to block him.
“To sleep in the guest room.”
Liang Sheng said coldly.
“Why?”
Shen Xingyu grew anxious. They had been married for so many years, and although they weren’t very affectionate, they had never slept in separate rooms. At most, when he was in a bad mood, he would make Liang Sheng sleep on the floor.
“I don’t want to sleep with you anymore!”
Liang Sheng really didn’t know how he had the nerve to ask why. Hadn’t he made it obvious enough?
“I won’t allow you to go.”
Shen Xingyu grabbed his arm firmly.
“What right do you have to stop me?!”
Liang Sheng pulled away forcefully. He hadn’t realized before that Shen Xingyu could be so persistent!
“By the right of being your… husband.”
Shen Xingyu’s face was dark as he spoke each word slowly.
Everything about him had changed, but over the years, the one thing that remained constant was his use of this identity to oppress Liang Sheng.
“You’re only realizing that now? It’s too late!”
Liang Sheng gave a cold laugh. He kept saying he was his husband, yet he had never fulfilled even a bit of a husband’s duties.
Shen Xingyu didn’t want to waste any more words with him. He reached out to take his blanket and pillow, but Liang Sheng moved out of the way.
“If you don’t let me out, believe it or not, I’ll—I’ll bite my tongue and kill myself right now! I’m a dying person anyway! Dying sooner will end it all!”
Liang Sheng shouted a threat. He hugged his blanket tightly, and although his legs were trembling with fear, he still put on a fierce front to hold his ground.
“You…”
Shen Xingyu hadn’t expected him to threaten him this way. He was speechless for a moment, and he was also afraid that Liang Sheng would really bite his tongue, so he reluctantly lowered his hand.
Seeing that his intimidation was successful, Liang Sheng quickly ran out, fearing the other would suddenly regret it.
The door opened and then closed.
Shen Xingyu stood frozen on the spot. Seeing how the other couldn’t wait to be away from him, he felt both angry and helpless.
These emotions tossed and turned in his heart. He wished he could drag Liang Sheng back and never let him go anywhere, keeping him only by his side. But then he thought of the island; doing so would only worsen his condition.
Shen Xingyu finally closed his eyes and loosened his clenched fists. He endured it and did nothing.
Away from the man’s sight, Liang Sheng felt that even the air was sweet. His entire body felt incredibly relaxed and at ease.
He gave a long-overdue smile, hugged his blanket and pillow, and walked into the last bedroom in the corner.
He should be able to get a good night’s sleep tonight.
On the other side, Shen Xingyu was fuming as he lay back in bed. Just as he closed his eyes, his mind couldn’t stop thinking about what Liang Sheng had just said. The way the other loathed him so much made his heart fill with a surge of uncontrollable frustration!
He was the CEO of the Shen family. All these years, the Old Master hadn’t interfered in the company’s affairs, and it was through his own efforts that the Shen Corporation had flourished. Everyone had to be wary of him; why should Liang Sheng be angry at him!
He was used to being adored by thousands, and Liang Sheng had always been obedient toward him. Now, he actually dared to despise and ignore him!
Exactly how was he inferior to that Xie Zhengran? He even hid a major thing like having a terminal illness from him!
The more Shen Xingyu thought about it, the angrier he became. He clenched his fist and struck the bed hard. Even the bedside lamp shook twice from the impact.
He was willing to lower his pride to keep Liang Sheng, he had apologized, and he had promised to cure Liang Sheng’s illness. He was willing to start over and love him well; why wouldn’t Liang Sheng forgive him!
As soon as he started to agonize over it, his head began to hurt.
Shen Xingyu forced himself not to think about it, but he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. He didn’t know if it was because Liang Sheng wasn’t by his side, but he lacked a sense of security.
Impossible!
There was no such thing as Shen Xingyu being unable to leave someone!
Go ahead and leave. It would be best if you didn’t come back begging to be held later. He remembered that Liang Sheng was afraid of the dark; sleeping in a guest room alone was like seeking his own death.
Shen Xingyu thought stubbornly, which made him feel a bit better. He rested his hands behind his head, quietly waiting for his little wife to be so frightened that he would come knocking on his door in tears and dive into his arms.
But as the minutes and hours passed, it was already one in the morning. Outside the window, the night was dark and it was raining lightly.
Shen Xingyu frowned, unable to sleep.
He opened his eyes, looked at the clock, and then looked at the closed door. There was no sound at all.
Where was Liang Sheng?
By this time, he should have been so scared that he’d be knocking on the door in tears, right? Why hadn’t he?
Could something have happened?!
Shen Xingyu didn’t care about the awkwardness in his heart anymore. Worried that Liang Sheng had fainted, he hurriedly got out of bed and went out.
He walked quickly to the guest room door. He suddenly hesitated, remembering Liang Sheng saying he had no right. He was angry, but he couldn’t completely ignore the person. After agonizing over it for a good while, he finally raised his hand and knocked on the door.
