Chapter 3: The Goddess of Light
On the third morning, Misa sat stubbornly in front of the hero’s brand-new house, sporting two enormous dark circles under his eyes.
He really had run out of patience.
If the hero wasn’t willing to leave today, he might lose control and resort to force, directly whacking the hero on the head and throwing the damn hero into the divine tower.
The hero seemed to be waking up unusually late today. Misa waited for a long time, watching the villagers running around in astonishment, marveling at the miracles bestowed by the gods, while he yawned wearily—even for a Demon Lord, three days of continuous hard labor was exhausting.
After a while, Misa finally waited for the hero to open the door.
He excitedly turned around, giving the hero a gentle smile as he had done in the past few days. Before he could speak, Lance refused him first.
Lance: “Not now.”
Misa: “…”
Why not?!!!
He’d built an entire village for this damn hero, how could it still not be enough!
Misa tried his best to restrain his inner rage, gritting his teeth and squeezing out a few words through his teeth: “Why not?”
Lance: “…Personal matters.”
Misa: “Are personal matters more important than saving the world!”
Lance: “…”
Lance slowly retreated into the room and closed the door in front of him.
Misa: “…”
Misa struggled to resist the urge to punch the hero unconscious. He threw off his disguise and rushed back to the Demon Lord’s Castle.
He really couldn’t take it anymore.
How could there be such a hero in the world? Wasn’t there a problem with the Heavens’ reincarnation system?
But he couldn’t return to the Heavens. He could only rely on the magic mirror that had just finished self-repairing to open the Demon Lord’s work group chat and let out a thunderous roar.
Misa: I think my hero might be sick!
He poured out everything he had experienced these past few days to his Demon Lord colleagues.
The experience was so absurd that the more he spoke, the more indignant he became.
Three years ago, they had all left the Heavens together. Now, most of his Demon Lord colleagues had returned to the Heavens, but his hero wasn’t willing to leave even the starting village.
Misa: I don’t understand. I’ve done so much for him, so much! What else is he dissatisfied with!
Misa: How could there be such a troublesome hero in this world!
Misa: Wuwu, when will the hero finally look at me.
The group chat was silent for a moment, and their senior Demon Lord instructor, Alisa, finally spoke, commenting on Misa’s painful career.
Alisa: Actually, um, is there a possibility…
Alisa: That your hero… is doing this on purpose?
Misa: …
Misa suddenly realized.
Misa carefully recalled everything that had happened these past few days, and he increasingly felt that Alisa’s guess was the correct answer.
The hero must have discovered it long ago.
As long as he wished for something, his wish would come true. So before leaving Blessed Land, he would make a wish to Misa every day and then simply wait for the next day’s “miracle” to arrive.
Damn it, damn it!!!
Misa angrily smashed the magic mirror, then transformed into a human form and rushed back to Blessed Land, intending to catch the hero and settle the score with him.
He stormed back to the village entrance, but immediately saw the hero.
At the head of the village were flowering trees that Misa had bought from the Northern Kingdom for a small price. He had specially used magic to cultivate them, spending a lot of effort, and Lance was leaning against the trees, as if waiting for someone.
Misa didn’t care who Lance was waiting for. He was full of anger and roared loudly, “Lance!—“
Lance: “Let’s go.”
Misa: “Huh?”
Misa finally saw clearly that the hero was carrying a sword on his waist, not a hoe or a hammer.
A sword that a normal hero would carry!
No, wait.
Did he think he could forget what happened before? Impossible!
Misa was indignant: “You actually—”
Lance interrupted him: “If we set off now, we might reach it by noon.”
Misa: “Ah… maybe not, it’ll probably be evening.”
Misa: “…”
No, he was still angry.
Misa: “Did you deliberately—”
Lance: “I know a shortcut to the divine tower.”
Misa: “…”
Lance: “We can reach it by noon.”
Misa: “…”
Lance: “Maybe we can set off for the next town in the afternoon.”
Misa: “…”
Lance: “Let’s go.”
Misa: “Yay.”
He subconsciously followed Lance for a few steps, but suddenly realized something else.
Lance knows a shortcut to the divine tower? He knows there’s a divine tower outside the village?
Then he actually farmed in the village for three years?!
Misa tried his best to suppress his anger.
He caught up with the hero, trying to tell himself—it doesn’t matter; anyway, he only needs to accompany the hero for this last leg. Once it’s afternoon and they reach the divine tower to awaken the Divine Envoy, his mission will be over.
The rest of the journey should be accompanied by the Divine Envoy, and he could return to his Demon Lord’s Castle to wait for the day the hero would knock on his door.
He finally suppressed his anger, smiled at the hero again, and put on a gentle expression, saying, “Mr. Lance, let’s go then.”
Lance nodded. They walked to the village entrance, where several villagers were waiting. Misa didn’t recognize them, so he went to the side, then turned his head and saw the village head gratefully holding Lance’s hand, emotionally saying, “Mr. Lance, although we haven’t known each other for long, this will always be your home.”
Misa: “…”
Wait, what?
Haven’t known each other for long?
Didn’t the hero farm in this village for three years?
Misa took a step back and secretly checked the hero’s adventure log.
The Heavens’ system is limited, so records only appear on the adventure system when the hero reaches various racial cities and monster gathering places. No matter how much he searched, the only record he found was the hero entering Blessed Land, which first appeared three years ago, exactly when the hero should have gone to Blessed Land in the normal process.
In the three years that followed, the only records related to the hero’s actions were the hero occasionally entering and leaving Blessed Land, seemingly without any abnormalities.
Misa scratched his head. Since the records were correct, then there should be… no problem, right?
After all, the village head was already old, and three years is indeed a short period for the village head and those who have lived in the village all their lives. But these are minor issues! The important thing is that the hero is finally leaving the village to go to the divine tower!
Just thinking about the hero being willing to go to the divine tower made Misa’s lips curl into a smile.
He finally waited until the hero finished speaking with the village head and eagerly urged the hero to leave the village, taking a shortcut to the divine tower.
The journey was exceptionally smooth, and they indeed reached the divine tower at noon. Misa’s heart, which had been hanging the entire time, finally settled.
They reached the huge stone gate of the divine tower, and Misa stopped, unable to help but smile happily, and said very kindly to Lance, “Mr. Lance, I won’t go in.”
Hehe, he’s going to rush back to the Demon Lord’s Castle now.
But Lance also stopped and looked at him questioningly, as if he couldn’t understand why he had stopped here.
Misa was in such a good mood that he even proactively explained to Lance, saying, “I’m not a hero; it’s inconvenient for me to go into the divine tower.”
Lance: “…Accompany me?”
Misa: “…”
Misa was greatly shocked.
This was the first time he heard this annoying, strange hero making such a request. Naturally, he couldn’t help but hesitate.
Anyway… anyway, they’re already at the divine tower; it’s just accompanying him for the last part of the journey. The Demon Lord is in a good mood, so he’ll allow it today!
Most of the content covered in Misa’s Demon Lord training in the Heavens only had to do with the Demon Lord and the Demon Lord’s Castle.
The divine tower was a knowledge blind spot for him. This was the Divine Envoy’s job, and he hadn’t taken the initiative to learn about it. So when the hero forcefully pushed open the divine tower’s stone gate, he couldn’t help but widen his eyes curiously and carefully examined it.
Golden, holy light leaked from the crack in the huge stone gate—well, it’s just a regular special effect. His Demon Lord’s Castle gate could also spray out black mist; there’s no difference.
Behind the gate was a huge, magnificent hall, with murals and carvings common in the Heavens on the side walls, which made Misa somewhat nostalgic. In the center of the divine tower was a huge teleportation formation. The hero skillfully led Misa into it. Golden light overflowed around them, gradually filling their entire vision, but it wasn’t dazzling. When the golden light dispersed, they were already standing on the top floor of the divine tower.
Misa widened his eyes, feeling that the divine tower’s special effects were too cool. He couldn’t lose face; he should get one for his Demon Lord’s Castle when he got back!
Before them was a huge statue of the Goddess. Misa followed Lance to the statue, and then saw a gentle glow gradually emanating from the statue, and a voice sounded.
“Savior Hero,” the voice was gentle and slow, as if filled with love for all things in the world, “You have finally arrived at the divine tower.”
Misa: “…”
Wait, that’s familiar.
Isn’t that the voice of the Goddess of Light, Ginises?
Could the so-called divine call be a direct communication with the Heavens?
Ginises’ tone was friendly: “I am the Goddess of Light—”
Lance’s voice was cold: “It’s not important.”
Misa: “…”
Ginises: “…”
Huh? What strange thing is the hero going to do again?
Ginises paused for a while, as if she was thrown off balance by the hero’s strange words. But she was, after all, the most senior goddess in the Heavens; she quickly adjusted her state and continued the conversation gently.
“Lance, the hero chosen by the gods,” Ginises said, “and the hero’s companion—”
Ginises: “Mi… Misa?”
No, why is the Demon Lord here?!
Misa vigorously winked at the statue, trying to hint at the mystery of this matter to Ginises, and Lance frowned thoughtfully and looked at him, as if he finally confirmed a certain guess in his heart.
Ginises didn’t want to lose.
Although the situation was a little strange, as the most senior goddess, she had seen many situations stranger than this. It’s nothing; she could handle it.
Ginises continued to recite her lines.
“The world’s light is being eroded by darkness,” her tone gradually became mournful, with grief for the fading light, “Hero Lance, the people need you—”
Lance: “I’m willing.”
Ginises: “…”
Misa: “…”
Ginises: “Your enemy—”
Lance: “The Demon Lord.”
Ginises: “He is in—”
Lance: “The Demon Lord’s Castle.”
Ginises: “…To defeat the Demon Lord, you must gather the—”
Lance: “Tell me, where do I need to go?”
Ginises: “…”
Misa: “…”
No way! This is totally wrong!
How could someone interrupt the goddess’s words!
Ginises fell into a long silence. Misa thought she might be checking the hero’s personal information to confirm whether this hero was a so-called backstabber, but she found nothing. She could only grit her teeth and continue reciting her lines.
“My Divine Envoy will guide you,” Ginises’ tone was clearly a little shaken, “You are the sword of the gods, and he is the lamp that guides you towards the light.”
Lance: “…”
Lance actually listened to the entire sentence.
Light gathered in front of the statue, seeming like the effect of awakening the Divine Envoy. Misa widened his eyes, curious about how the Divine Envoy would appear, when Lance grabbed his hand and said earnestly, “Let’s go.”
Misa: “Ah?”
Ginises: “…”
Misa was completely unprepared and was directly pulled into the teleportation formation behind him.
Misa: “Wait! Wait! The Divine Envoy!”
Lance: “Mm.”
Misa: “Aaah! Don’t pull me down!”
The light of the formation rose again, gradually overlapping with the light ball in front of the goddess statue. Then, the light of the formation dispersed, and a human form gradually emerged from the light ball. It was a young man with light golden hair, a gentle smile on his face as he slowly opened his eyes, looked at the temple in front of him, and opened his lips.
“Hello, Savior Hero, I am your—”
Divine Envoy Arlo: “…”
Huh? Where are they?
i would love to see what Lance’s pov is lol!
