Chapter 113: Forum Discussion
Yasuo picked up a nutrient solution from the table, unscrewed it, and handed it to Su Tang with a dark expression.
“What else could it be? People are losing their minds over the drama between you, Mo Xiao, and Shen Ji. The internal forum of the White Tower is practically exploding. It’s split into two factions, and they’re at each other’s throats.”
Su Tang took the nutrient solution, her fingertips feeling a slight chill.
“Since when did the White Tower have a forum?”
How did she not know about this?
“You’ve only been here a short while. This forum was built by Sentinels in secret. Entering requires very strict protocols; you need a personal invitation from one of the founders, and every user is bound to strict secrecy. It’s perfectly normal that you didn’t know.”
Understood, Su Tang thought. A private chat channel.
“If it’s so mysterious, what was it created for?”
“Since ancient times, hasn’t every forum been for gossip? You know how few areas in the White Tower aren’t monitored. A word spoken today could be known by everyone in the Tower by tomorrow.”
“So, you’re saying they went through all that trouble to create a high-privacy platform just so they could gossip and complain more easily?”
Su Tang looked at Yasuo in shock. Seeing the man give an affirmative nod, she couldn’t help but marvel. As expected, whether in modern society or in an environment like this, gossip was an inherent part of human nature.
“Wait, a thought just occurred to me. How do you know the forum is in an uproar? Are you a member?”
Yasuo picked up another tube of nutrient solution, downed it in a few gulps, and shook his head at Su Tang.
“To be precise, it’s not that he’s in the forum—it’s that he’s the one who built it.”
An Se walked in from outside. Making himself quite at home, he grabbed a snack from Yasuo’s overflowing table, opened it, and popped it into his mouth.
As the overly sweet taste spread through his mouth, An Se couldn’t help but frown.
“What kind of garbage did you buy? Is this even edible?”
Yasuo reached out and snatched the snack back from An Se’s hand.
“Please, old man, look at the packaging before you open it next time. It says ‘Guide Exclusive.’ If you don’t need those eyes of yours, you can just donate them.”
Sentinels were born with heightened five senses. Food that was just right for a Guide often tasted incredibly overwhelming to them. Therefore, the food at the supply station was always divided into two categories: normal food for Guides, and specially flavored light meals for Sentinels.
An Se scanned the snack-filled table and realized there wasn’t a single thing he could eat. He couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
“I say, I run this medical department and you visit all the time, yet you never think to bring me something to eat.”
“If you want to lie down on one of these beds as a patient right now, I promise to bring everything from the supply station here for you to pick from.”
Recently, these two had been putting on this act in front of her constantly. Su Tang sighed softly and quickly cut them off.
“Alright, alright, let Yasuo finish first.”
“Why did you build this forum in the first place?”
“Look at this table full of snacks. You can probably guess why.”
An Se’s reminder made Su Tang realize immediately. She had seen how expensive the prices at the supply station were.
“For… money?”
“Bingo! You got it. Our Captain Yasuo has quite the head for business. The membership fee to join the forum is a staggering amount you wouldn’t believe.”
Among all the Sentinels in the White Tower, aside from Shen Ji, this guy was the wealthiest. Shen Ji’s wealth was largely due to his family, but this guy had accumulated his through sheer “black-hearted” business.
“I truly underestimated the human instinct for gossip.”
Willing to pay such a massive fee just to satisfy their gossiping nature—tsk tsk.
“Enough with the sentiment. Let’s talk about some real business.”
An Se deliberately emphasized the word “real.” Su Tang rubbed her nose in embarrassment; they had indeed drifted quite far off-topic.
“What exactly is being said on the forum?”
“What else could they say? It’s the same old debate that never changes. One group thinks Mo Xiao is excusable, while the other thinks he got what he deserved and must be severely punished.”
Yasuo directly opened his bracelet and clicked on the forum page, letting the other two see for themselves.
Yasuo’s bracelet projected a virtual screen. The forum page unfolded before the three of them, with dense posts scrolling by at lightning speed.
Su Tang leaned in and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Aha!
She was very familiar with this.
It was exactly like an internet forum or a Subreddit from modern society.
[Stickied: Rational Discussion—Should Captain M be severely punished this time?]
The posts below were still scrolling rapidly, proving that this matter was indeed the center of heated discussion within the White Tower.
[Anonymous: Why should he be severely punished? If it were me at the edge of the Abyss with my mental power collapsing, I would also choose to save myself at any cost. Are we supposed to just wait for death?]
[Anonymous: Yeah, yeah, you’re so noble. Just don’t go sucking some Guide’s mental power yourself. If you want to save yourself by costing someone else their life, you deserve a heavy sentence. Otherwise, if people like the guy above start following suit, what will happen? Are Guides just supposed to be consumables for Sentinels? That’s not how the world works.]
[Anonymous: You Guide-faction people are so dramatic. Where were you when Sentinels were risking their lives? Oh, so we Sentinels are just supposed to be consumables to protect Guides? Please, we’re the ones on the front lines. You all just sit in the White Tower or stay in the warm nests we build, giving us a bit of ‘soothing’ now and then. You have no right to act aggrieved.]
[Anonymous: I agree with the one above. Even a Super S-Rank Sentinel gets this treatment? Who will dare to take high-risk missions in the future? Besides, don’t Guides exist to ensure the stability of Sentinels? I heard that Guide was only an F-rank. It’s her greatest honor that she could save Captain M. Besides, isn’t she perfectly fine? Why the heavy punishment?]
[Anonymous: I wonder how thick your skin has to be to say something so disgusting and shameful. Are we just going to brush this off because the victim is low-level and the perpetrator is high-level? By that logic, if you ever come begging for my help, can I just refuse and watch you die because your level is too low for me to bother ‘soothing’?]
[Anonymous: Honestly, I’m laughing. ‘Honor’? Is the person above living in the dark ages? A Guide saving someone is noble. An S-rank Guide risked a mental collapse to save M, and you can’t see their contribution? You’re just barking about ranks?]
[Anonymous: Oh, who was it that cried and begged for ‘soothing’ when their mental power went out of control last time? Who said ‘Guides are the backbone of Sentinels’? Now you’re looking down on ranks? You really think Guides are just tools you can summon and discard at will?]
[Anonymous: Ranks are for dividing ability ranges, not for dividing human rights! Some people’s brains are clearly warped; the things they say are so moronic it’s laughable. Stop using rank as a fig leaf. Go wash up and go to sleep—don’t come here looking for a verbal beatdown.]
[Anonymous: Holy crap, the bro above just kicked a hornets’ nest of Guides. By the way, fun fact: the creator of this forum is a real shark. As long as you pay enough points, your ‘anonymity’ is transparent. Good luck. I hope the next time you come back from a mission, there’s still a Guide willing to overlook your attitude and ‘soothe’ you…]
Once this message appeared, the language in the following comments wasn’t as sharp as before, but the community remained split. One side believed Mo Xiao was only protecting himself and shouldn’t be punished.
The other side believed Mo Xiao’s actions severely impacted the interests of Guides and even set a bad precedent in the White Tower, arguing for a severe punishment to maintain discipline.
Su Tang’s eyes began to ache from the scrolling text. After a few more glances, she sat to the side and began to rub her temples with her eyes closed.
