Chapter 136. Anse Won’t Leave
Until just now, when he heard suppressed groans and fragmented conversation coming from the next room, hearing Su Tang so gently pacifying that Sentinel who pushed his luck, he had almost lost control several times, wanting to rush in recklessly and tear off Mo Xiao’s hypocritical mask.
A dignified Super S-Class Sentinel, unable to endure this tiny bit of emptiness? Who was he fooling?
It wasn’t until the sounds next door gradually subsided and silence reigned for a long time that he couldn’t resist cracking his door open, only to witness Mo Xiao looking like someone who had obviously reaped immense benefits.
Only then did that hidden emotion finally break through the soil, and he realized what had caused his recent abnormalities.
It was jealousy, but also yearning.
A Sentinel’s reliance on a Guide was pure instinct, but he had always restrained himself.
He considered himself to possess absolute rationality, and for so many years, he had indeed achieved it. He was the Sentinel in the entire White Tower who used suppressants the least. He thought he could use his intellect to completely break free from a Sentinel’s natural instincts.
But at this moment, looking at Mo Xiao so weak in the knees he could barely stand, feeling the faint trace of Su Tang’s spiritual power slipping through the crack of the door and spreading into the corridor when Mo Xiao stepped out, Anse belatedly realized that he had long since ceased to harbor the pure mentality of a spectator.
He, too, longed for the bliss of that spiritual fusion, longed for her fingertips to gently touch him, and even…
Longed to be like Mo Xiao, whether treated gently by her or treated roughly, he longed for it…
“Tsk.”
Anse let out a low sneer, released his grip on the doorframe, and turned back into his room.
The moment the door closed, he leaned against it, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
Truly, he had gotten himself completely tangled up in this.
Lying back in bed, sleep completely eluded him. Frustrated, Anse ruffled his hair, threw on a jacket, and returned to the laboratory.
The next day, the midday sun shone through the White Tower’s windows, casting warm dapples of light in the corridor.
Arriving at the time he had agreed upon with Su Tang the day before, Yasuo stood before Su Tang’s door, specifically adjusting his collar and checking his reflection against the metallic door panel.
The black combat uniform accentuated his tall and straight figure, and he had specially styled the tips of his hair to ensure he looked handsome and reliable.
After confirming his appearance hadn’t lost an ounce of handsomeness, he took a deep breath, raised his hand to knock on the door, and spoke in a deliberately practiced, gentle tone.
“Su Tang, I’m here.”
The door quickly opened. Su Tang wore a simple white casual outfit, her hair tied loosely behind her head, revealing her slender neck.
Seeing Yasuo’s meticulously dressed appearance, she paused for a moment before smiling and stepping aside.
“Come in.”
The light in Yasuo’s eyes instantly brightened as he stepped into the room. He had heard that Mo Xiao didn’t spend the night in Su Tang’s room. So what if Mo Xiao had the upper hand last night?
He came fully prepared today and was determined to make Su Tang feel joyous.
He was much better than that stupid wolf who couldn’t seize an opportunity.
Yasuo walked to the table and sat down, bringing it up with feigned nonchalance.
“Is there anything else I need to prepare for the purification? I am completely relaxed.”
After going back yesterday, he sought advice from the others. He heard that some Guides liked to use special props to heighten the mood. He wondered if that was the case here with Su Tang.
“No need to prepare anything, just sitting there is fine.”
Su Tang turned around, facing Yasuo, and raised her hand, gesturing for Yasuo to sit in the chair Mo Xiao had occupied last night.
“Then we’ll follow the same procedure as with Mo Xiao yesterday. I’ll release my spiritual power into your body first to inspect the state of your spiritual consciousness sea.”
At the mention of Mo Xiao, Yasuo’s eyes darkened, but he immediately put on a smile again.
“I will cooperate with you fully, don’t worry.”
As he spoke, he deliberately puffed out his chest.
Su Tang smiled, but before she could get close to Yasuo, a light knock came at the door.
“Who is it?”
Yasuo frowned instinctively, an ominous premonition rising in his heart. Whoever knocked on Su Tang’s door at this exact moment must have a death wish, right?
Could it be that guy, Mo Xiao?
Several dark lines quickly crossed Yasuo’s face. You’ve got to be kidding. He didn’t disturb them last night; if that guy Mo Xiao dared to interrupt his purification today, he’d make sure he paid dearly for it.
Just as the anger rose in his chest, Anse’s calm, emotionless voice came from outside the door.
“Su Tang, it’s me.”
Yasuo’s expression froze on his face. Anse?
Why would it be him?
Didn’t he know they were doing a channeling session today? Why choose this exact moment to interrupt them?
Without waiting for Su Tang to speak, Yasuo beat her to it.
“Anse? We’re about to do a purification. If there’s something you need, we can talk about it later.”
He certainly didn’t want Anse sticking around as a third wheel. He had looked forward to this alone time all night, and he absolutely wouldn’t let anyone disturb it.
He assumed Anse would just leave, but unexpectedly, the man simply pushed the door open. Yasuo frowned, glaring coldly at him.
Anse stood in the doorway holding a transparent glass tube containing a pale green liquid.
Ignoring Yasuo’s displeased glare, he walked straight up to Su Tang and handed her the glass tube.
“My apologies, but there really is an urgent matter to discuss.”
“I just developed this last night. It has a good effect against the red mist. Although it can’t disperse it, it can lower their activity level.”
Su Tang accepted the glass tube in surprise, watching the liquid sloshing slowly inside.
She sighed inwardly in admiration—truly worthy of Department Head Anse. It hadn’t been long since they discovered the red mist, yet he had already developed a countermeasure.
“You didn’t rest last night? You went to make this?”
“I just happened to be unable to sleep, so I made it in passing.”
Anse’s tone remained flat, but his gaze lingered on Su Tang’s face for a moment. “I tested it using the small amount of mist forced out of Zhan Ye’s body, and the effect isn’t bad. Before deploying, applying this liquid to a Sentinel can resist the invasion of that red mist to a certain extent.”
“Anse, we’re going to do the purification now. If you’re done, then…” Yasuo couldn’t help trying to chase him out, already feeling Su Tang’s attention being diverted.
“Is there something I can’t watch?”
Anse interrupted him, naturally walking over to a chair in the corner of the room and sitting down.
“The process of a Guide purifying a Sentinel is a normal medical procedure. I don’t believe it must strictly be done with only two people face-to-face.”
Yasuo was practically exploding with anger. Just listen, were those the words of a human being?
“Perfect timing. Since Su Tang’s spiritual barrier recovered, I haven’t had the chance to check her condition. I can use this opportunity while she purifies you to gather some supplementary data from the side.”
This excuse sounded so high-and-mighty, but when had he ever been this interested in the purification process before?
Yasuo was on the verge of losing control over his facial expression.
“Anse, purification requires absolute quiet. You’ll disturb us by being here.”
Yasuo stood up, his tone filled with obvious hostility.
“There weren’t this many rules when Su Tang did channelings for other Sentinels before.” Anse leaned back in his chair, completely unaffected by Yasuo.
“Besides, Su Tang doesn’t mind, so what are you panicking for?”
