Chapter 14: Leaving Directly
Nan Yu didn’t act coy. After thanking him, he sat on the chair nearest to him. He looked at Yu Lanfeng with bright, piercing eyes, almost as if he wanted to see right through him.
It wasn’t his fault; after all, this was the first time across two lifetimes that he had met a powerhouse like Yu Lanfeng face-to-face.
“I heard from my dad… you have business with me, Marshal?”
Regardless of how interested he was, he still had to maintain basic etiquette and politeness.
Yu Lanfeng’s expression was calm. “Correct. I assume Major General Nan has already told you. I can guarantee your safety, so you don’t need to worry about that. What do you think? Interested in giving it a try?”
Being stared at so directly by Yu Lanfeng, Nan Yu suddenly felt a bit flustered for some reason. Was this the subtle interaction one felt when facing a top-tier Yineng powerhouse?
He awkwardly scratched his cheek with his finger. “I do indeed want to give it a try, but…”
Yu Lanfeng said, “Don’t worry. This will certainly count toward your military merit. When you graduate from the academy, if you choose to join the military, you’ll be given priority. How about it?”
Nan Yu thought to himself that in a few years when he graduated, he would already be a High-Level Jingshenli Zhe. At that time, it wouldn’t be a question of whether others wanted him, but where he wanted to go.
However, hearing what he just said…
“Marshal, you said you would guarantee my safety. Does that mean you will be heading there as well?”
Yu Lanfeng didn’t hide it. “Yes.”
The corners of Nan Yu’s mouth curled up. “Then… may I ask how long we will be there?”
Hearing this, Yu Lanfeng knew that the matter was eighty percent settled. “With me there, two months will be enough.”
Nan Yu asked, “And what about school?”
Yu Lanfeng replied, “Leave the school matters to me. I will submit a combat assistance report to the school in the name of my military department.”
Nan Yu nodded. “Two months… I’ll be back just in time for the holidays.”
Yu Lanfeng paused slightly. Holidays?
It did seem to be around the holiday season. By then, the military would also be implementing rotating leave, since it would be the New Year.
“Correct.”
Nan Yu was full of enthusiasm. “Then when do we set out?”
Yu Lanfeng answered, “The sooner the better. The beast tide has already broken out over there, and the soldiers are already fighting.”
Nan Yu stood up. “Then I’ll go back and pack a bit, and we can leave in a moment?”
Yu Lanfeng was very satisfied with his quick response. “In that case, I’ll go with you. Once you’ve grabbed your things, we’ll head straight to the starport.”
Nan Yu had no objection and turned to leave. But he paused when he saw the dishes on the table in the booth, asking a bit shyly, “Can I pack these up to take away?”
Yu Lanfeng blinked, only then noticing that the dishes sent by Zhenxiu Ge earlier hadn’t been touched.
“Pack them up. They’re all yours.”
For such a small matter, he had no problem agreeing.
But he saw that Nan Yu looked very happy. “Thank you, Marshal!”
He swallowed the phrase “You’re a really good person.” It was better not to say it aloud; even though it was a compliment, it always felt a bit strange.
Just like that, Nan Yu left with over a dozen dishes packed from Zhenxiu Ge. He didn’t go to see his father and two brothers who were still waiting for him, because he knew the three of them definitely wouldn’t accept this so easily.
They would probably spend ages nagging him and trying to talk him out of it.
To leave a good impression in front of the Marshal, and to prevent his brothers from leaving a bad impression of being “procrastinators” before the Marshal, he decided to leave without telling them.
Once he reached home, he would have someone notify the three of them.
By the time they were notified, it would be too late for them to catch up even if they wanted to.
Nan Yu left the packed food at home and handed it to the butler, telling him to remember to have them eat it. He, on the other hand, brought nothing.
He had only returned home to quickly pack some clothes; other items weren’t necessary, as the military definitely wouldn’t lack anything. Especially the army led by Yu Lanfeng—it was famously wealthy and well-supplied.
After all, they had the Empress and the Emperor backing them.
Nan Yu put everything into his space button, taking the Nianshen Cao out for a moment to get some air. Although it was only for a short while, there was still time for a brief break.
As he was leaving, he carefully tucked the Nianshen Cao back into the space button.
“Butler, I’m leaving now. I’ll be back around the New Year. Tell Dad and my brothers that I’m going with the Marshal to earn some merits and there’s no danger.”
The butler’s face was full of worry, but he didn’t voice any disapproval, because this was a good thing.
“Little Master, you must be careful.”
Nan Yu replied, “Don’t worry!”
Nan Yu then decisively followed Yu Lanfeng’s army and left at the fastest speed possible.
They took a ship from the starport and left the Capital Star. Nan Yu looked at the massive planet before him and took a deep breath. In his previous life, he had lived on the Capital Star his entire life and had never left once.
Scenes like this had always been something he saw on the Star Net. To see it directly with his own eyes like this was a first.
“So beautiful…”
“It is indeed very beautiful.”
Nan Yu: “Eh?”
He turned around and saw it was actually Yuan Qiyang.
“So it’s the Crown Prince. Forgive my rudeness.”
Yuan Qiyang waved his hand dismissively. “No need for formalities. We’re in the military; there is no Crown Prince, only Major Yuan.”
Nan Yu blinked. “Yes, Major Yuan!”
Yuan Qiyang froze slightly. Perhaps he was used to the seriousness of the military, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to handle such a young and lively Jingshenli Zhe.
“Um… forget it. Do you want to look a bit more? We’ll be heading inside the space carrier soon.”
Nan Yu replied, “No need. There will be plenty of chances to see it in the future.”
Yuan Qiyang said, “That’s true. Then come with me. There isn’t much time. Sit for a bit; the ship will reach the carrier shortly. You should prepare yourself a little.”
Nan Yu followed him forward. Although this ship was just a transport vehicle between the Capital Star and the space carrier, the interior was still very large, equipped with everything one could possibly need.
By the way, this was exclusive to Yu Lanfeng’s army; other armies didn’t have this.
As Nan Yu walked near the exit, he saw Yu Lanfeng’s silhouette. He was standing there with a tall, straight posture, looking as if he were also gazing at the Capital Star.
Nan Yu didn’t go over to disturb him, picking a random spot to sit down. Yuan Qiyang sat beside him.
“I heard you didn’t say goodbye to your family?”
Nan Yu narrowed his eyes and smiled. “They love me very much, really love me. So they definitely wouldn’t want me to go. It would have taken forever just to convince them.”
“I think it’s better to apologize to them when I get back. Aren’t you all in a hurry right now?”
“Also… I just feel that going there this time isn’t dangerous for me at all; it’s a chance to gain experience and earn military merit. Such a win-win situation doesn’t come around every day, don’t you think, Major Yuan?”
