Chapter 24: Someone Is Targeting Him
Nan Yu frowned slightly. He didn’t walk in immediately, because the moment the door opened, a cloud of dust had actually puffed out toward him.
He waved it away and saw that the filthy room contained only a bed, a nightstand, a wardrobe, a desk, and a chair. There was a mattress and sheets on the bed, along with a thin quilt.
It looked very simple; in fact, at first glance, it really was just an ordinary resting room—if not for that thick layer of dust.
Nan Yu’s first thought was of An Mi; there surely couldn’t be anyone else. He was the captain of the mental power unit here; had his arrival caused him so much pressure?
To actually show such hostility right from the start?
Nan Yu didn’t think for a second that he could live in such a room. Did An Mi think he would just swallow his pride and stay there? Impossible. Although he had no problem enduring a bit of hardship, he wouldn’t suffer needlessly when there were better options available!
And most importantly, in a military base like this, since the resting rooms were close to the wards, people surely moved in and out frequently, so cleaning robots should come to tidy up every day.
Who would believe that a room could gather this much dust if it wasn’t intentional!
He turned to head back to the previous ward; even sleeping on a chair there would be better than sleeping here. But just as he turned to leave, something occurred to him, and so…
Nan Yu returned to the previous ward and saw them all sitting on their beds chatting. Likely because they hadn’t fully recovered, they were all intentionally controlling their emotions.
They were very surprised to see Nan Yu return so soon. “Eh? Why are you back? Aren’t you going to rest?”
Nan Yu frowned slightly, looking as if he wanted to say something but was hesitating.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Nan Yu sighed. “I didn’t really want to say anything, but that resting room is covered in a thick layer of dust, and I don’t know where the cleaning robots are, so I wanted to come and ask you”.
What? A thick layer of dust?
They had been at this military base for so many years and had never known there was a place that could have a thick layer of dust!
“Take me to see it; that’s basically impossible.”
Nan Yu blinked. “Forget it, you all should rest. It’s just a bit of dust; I’ll just go find a cleaning robot. Just tell me where they are, and I’ll go myself”.
But the captain simply wouldn’t agree. “Xiao Yu, take me to see it. It’s a rare sight; I’ve never seen it before and want to check it out”.
“We want to go too, Captain!”
Never mind the captain, they hadn’t seen it either. Because they were part of the army under Yu Lanfeng, the rules and regulations were extremely strict in every aspect. A resting room full of dust?
In fact, if the person saying this hadn’t been Nan Yu, they would have thrown a punch already. This was an insult to the quality and upbringing of their army!
Seeing their persistence, Nan Yu shook his head. “Sigh, since you want to see it so much, then follow me. It’s just as I said; you’ll see when we get there”.
Nan Yu led the large group of people toward the resting room, but as they rounded the corner near the door, they saw a cleaning robot hovering at the entrance.
Nan Yu was very surprised. “Eh? What’s this? A robot…”
“This is one of our army’s cleaning robots. Why would it appear here at this time?”
The captain walked over and scanned it with his optical computer. “Command.”
The robot repeated the command mechanically:
[Command: Clean the resting room within three minutes and leave.]
Everyone blinked. What did this mean? What was this about cleaning within three minutes and leaving? It had taken Nan Yu about five or six minutes to reach their ward and back, right?
So why was this cleaning robot timing its arrival to clean right now?
The captain asked, “Why are you at the door and not going in?”
The robot replied:
[Resting room permissions changed. Unable to enter. Unable to enter. Repeat, unable to enter!]
Nan Yu suddenly recalled something. “Oh, right, when I left, I saw a lock icon on the optical computer and habitually agreed to it. Could it be because of that?”
The captain sighed. “Open it and let’s see.”
Nan Yu quickly opened the door, and what appeared before everyone was very surprising to Nan Yu: the resting room was actually quite clean!
Even Nan Yu was stunned. It was impossible; he had specifically locked the door when he left, and even the cleaning robot couldn’t get in, so why had this resting room become so clean in such a short amount of time?
Everyone’s gaze focused on Nan Yu. Nan Yu was silent for a moment, then looked at the captain. “Can we see the surveillance here?”
The captain shook his head. “Checking the surveillance would blow this matter wide open. We would need the permission of the highest-ranking officer here, and the highest-ranking officer right now is the Marshal”.
So to check the surveillance, they would have to go to Marshal Yu Lanfeng, but this was ultimately just a small matter. Would they really go to him just because a room was dirty and then became clean after a short walk?
Nan Yu suddenly realized something. The person who designed this against him surely knew they wouldn’t go to Yu Lanfeng over such a trivial thing. After all, as the Marshal, he was busy with major affairs all day.
If he went to him over such a small thing, even if the Marshal himself didn’t mind, others around him would, needlessly damaging his reputation with the public.
If he planned to join the military in the future, this incident would definitely exist as a blemish.
So whether considering the present or the future, it was impossible for him to blow this matter up, leaving him to just swallow his resentment.
Facing their somewhat puzzled looks—wanting to doubt him but also not wanting to—Nan Yu acted very angry. “What exactly is going on? Are they playing with me?”
“I specifically recorded a video when I came in. If you doubt me, look for yourselves. Look, it’s this video!”
He pretended to be very angry, directly enlarging the screen on his optical computer to show them.
The person in the video was Nan Yu, looking very angry as he recorded the scene in the resting room. And the resting room in this video was exactly as Nan Yu had described: it looked simple, but had a thick layer of dust.
It was impossible to fake a video, so was it the resting room that was fake?
The cleaning robot outside definitely couldn’t have entered. Looking at the video, Nan Yu had only stood at the door for a few minutes before leaving, so he hadn’t discovered anything else inside?
The captain began searching all over the resting room and eventually really did find a portable cleaning robot in the bottom drawer of the wardrobe.
This portable cleaning robot was small in size and could change into a form that was easy to carry, yet it was very practical.
Because when such a cleaning robot was needed, it was usually a busy time or a time with poor conditions, so this kind of robot’s cleaning ability was several times that of the one outside the room.
If it were this one, then completing the cleaning within two or three minutes, or even one or two minutes, was a very simple matter.
The captain took a deep breath. “Who was it that brought you to this rest—”
