Part 2
Wei Xun: “…You little brat!”
This familiar nickname made Mu Jia Shu unable to stop himself from laughing: “Alright, go wash your face first.”
Wei Xun shook his head and pulled Mu Jia Shu to his side: “Come on, go with me.”
Mu Jia Shu said, “Go with you to the bathroom to wash your face? No need, right? It’s a bit cramped.”
Wei Xun said, “I’m afraid of the dark.”
Mu Jia Shu: “…”
Ultimately, he felt a bit guilty, so he accompanied Young Master Wei to wash his face and dry it before walking back to the bedroom in high spirits.
The two of them sat side-by-side on the edge of the bed in the dark, each holding a can of beer that Wei Xun had just found in the refrigerator—although because of the power outage, it was no longer cold.
Wei Xun was still a bit uneasy: “I say, can you really drink alcohol now?”
Mu Jia Shu said, “Haven’t I changed bodies? I don’t have any of those old ailments. And it was a coincidence, this person was originally called Shen Shu…”
He told Wei Xun everything that had happened since his rebirth, including the reason why he hadn’t spoken the truth at the beginning.
The most important thing between friends is trust. Since he had decided to be honest, he wouldn’t tell only half and leave the other half out, or be ambiguous about certain parts, which would only lead to more suspicion.
“Fuck!” When Wei Xun heard the end, he raised his hand and hurled the beer can away. He stood up with a start and said irritably, “It really was Pang Xing! I truly want to fucking kill him!”
Mu Jia Shu knew him too well. He had already prepared while speaking. Seeing Wei Xun raise his hand, he immediately reached out with quick eyes and hands, catching the unopened beer in his hand and setting it aside casually.
Wei Xun panted hard for several breaths, pacing back and forth a few times. He finally managed to suppress the anger that was about to erupt, but his chest still throbbed with a dull, stifled pain.
In fact, if Mu Jia Shu hadn’t been by his side, he would never have forced himself to calm down so easily.
Mu Jia Shu didn’t try to persuade him either: “That’s why I was so shocked when I first saw Pang Xing by your side, and I couldn’t be sure what was going on, so I didn’t dare act rashly. Initially, I thought you either knew nothing at all or you knew everything…”
“No.” Wei Xun immediately picked up on the hidden meaning in his words. “You even suspected that I would harm you?”
To tell the truth, he indeed had that thought at the very beginning.
Mu Jia Shu answered honestly, “At the beginning… I was a bit paranoid. But after seeing your face, I could no longer continue to suspect you were the one who killed me. San Ge, I really did think wrongly about this… if it makes you feel better, you can hit me once. Go ahead and use your strength, my current body is quite resistant to beatings.”
Wei Xun shook his head and sighed, not blaming him: “Back then you said you were going upstairs to change clothes, how could we have imagined something could happen in our own home? You didn’t come down for a long time. Just as I was about to go find you, I saw Pang Xing carrying you down on his back. I… I was truly at that time… my soul had left my body…”
Mu Jia Shu said, “He carried me?”
He asked this, but before Wei Xun could answer, he realized it himself. Pang Xing must have been afraid of being suspected, so after watching him stop breathing, he wanted to play the good guy and claim credit, which is why he brought him out of the room.
At first glance, this move was clever, but it was also easy to reveal flaws. It was truly a case of trying to be too smart for one’s own good.
As expected, Wei Xun said, “I felt something was wrong at the time, but I didn’t have time to ponder it. Later, after a while, I repeatedly recalled the events of that day. Pang Xing said he saw that you hadn’t come downstairs for a long time after going to your room, so he went up to knock out of concern. But everyone knows that the second floor is the owner’s private space; when has he ever been allowed to go there whenever he wanted? And even if he didn’t know the rules, the house was busy with many people that day and no one stopped him, so shouldn’t he have immediately reported it to me, Uncle Mu, or Haochang after realizing the door wouldn’t open? There’s no reason to break in himself; it seemed as if he knew in advance that something would happen to you. I didn’t think he would have the guts to harm you, I just felt he knew something.”
“So you placed him by your side, planning to drag out the person behind the scenes.”
“Correct.”
A raging fire was burning in Wei Xun’s chest. Although he had temporarily suppressed it, his expression remained very gloomy, and his voice was deeper than usual: “I pretended to be grateful for his attempt to save you. After transferring him to the company, I treated him very generously, just hoping that this person would show his true colors one day. Unfortunately, there has been no harvest after so long, and my dad’s side is keeping a very close watch. Sigh… Later when you arrived, I showed that I favored you, so Pang Xing must have been worried that you would affect his status. Maybe he would show some kind of flaw…”
He paused and explained to Mu Jia Shu: “But that was only at the beginning. Later when I acted like that toward you, it was all uncontrollable. I just felt Shen Shu was very much like you. His words, his actions, they were all like you.”
Mu Jia Shu didn’t care about those things, but from Wei Xun’s words, he could feel how much effort the other had put into investigating this matter. He patted Wei Xun’s shoulder, opened a beer, and handed it to him: “San Ge, a toast to you.”
The corner of Wei Xun’s lip twitched upwards. After taking it, he took a sip, but his movements suddenly froze. He didn’t speak for a long time. Mu Jia Shu looked up in surprise and found him looking somewhat dazed.
“San Ge?”
“I just remembered, so that day when I was speaking, Shen Shu was already you, wasn’t he?” Wei Xun said. “You got beaten up as soon as you woke up? I actually… I actually saw you and didn’t react, I even just threw down some money and left… Fuck!”
Mu Jia Shu laughed and said, “I thought you were going to say something else, but it was just this. Come on, it’s long past. This Shen Shu stole someone’s money; he deserved the beating. I took a beating for him, and he gave me a life. No matter how you look at it, I came out ahead.”
Wei Xun took a deep breath, his nose feeling a bit sore: “Mm.”
Mu Jia Shu smiled: “Don’t act so awkward. Ask whatever you want to ask. We’ve been brothers for over ten years, do you need to be this cautious?”
That familiar feeling from the past was returning bit by bit. Wei Xun finally believed a little that all of this was real: “This Shen Shu’s family background isn’t very good, right? Is the money you have on hand enough? Do you want me to…”
“What are you trying to do? Keep me?” Mu Jia Shu said with a smile. “Forget it, it’s not that difficult. If I wanted to, I naturally have ways to make money. Going to your company as a bodyguard was just to find a way to get in touch with our old circle.”
“You really don’t need it?” Wei Xun said suspiciously. “If we’re still acting like strangers, then it’s really meaningless. Why do you always eat instant noodles?”
Mu Jia Shu gave a dry cough: “They taste good.”
“Are they that good?”
“I hadn’t eaten them before.”
“…”
When facing Mu Jia Shu, Wei Xun’s ability to put on an act was always inferior. He shook his head and sighed softly: “Xiao Shu…”
Even in the past, Mu Jia Shu never believed that with his abilities, he needed to rely on either the Mu or the Wei families. Moreover, clear accounting makes for long friendships; no matter how deep his feelings for Wei Xun were, he couldn’t let the other person support him while he lived a life of luxury.
Mu Jia Shu pulled out his phone, tapped it a few times, and tossed it into Wei Xun’s lap: “See for yourself.”
Wei Xun caught it and took a look, then froze: “Holy shit, it’s only been how long, and you’ve already made 800,000 in stocks… Xiao Shu, I know your eye for investment, but where did the capital come from?”
