Chapter 107: Chi Che’s Mental Entity and Background
In the tea room, the incense burner released the faint smoke of agarwood. The melodious music of a vinyl record should have been soothing.
However, the aura between the three noble and peerless men sitting in different parts of the room was mutually incompatible.
Chi Yuzhou sat in the seat of honor. His gaze swept from the carved doors of the tea room back to the three guests with a smile.
Although the matter of the auction item was a misunderstanding, it involved far too much money. Simply telling the truth and refunding the money still left him feeling like he owed them.
Merchants value profit, but they value reputation even more. The Chi Family had many collaborations with the Underground Trading City.
Thinking of this, he felt it was best to wait for his precious daughter to come and make a choice.
But Chi Wan was nowhere to be seen.
The atmosphere became terrifyingly silent for a moment.
Chi Yuzhou began to look for a topic to break the awkwardness:
“I wonder where Mr. Chi comes from. To produce such a talent, I imagine your home must be extraordinary.”
People of status in the galaxy protected their private information very well, so Chi Yuzhou didn’t think much of the fact that he couldn’t find Chi Che’s information.
Chi Che simply nodded slightly. “A tiny place, not worth mentioning.”
Chi Yuzhou changed the subject: “I heard that Mr. Chi and Commander Shi had some clashes in the Underground Trading City. I’m quite curious—who has the auction item now?”
Shi Ye said nothing, only casting a sharp gaze toward Chi Che.
Meeting his gaze, Chi Che’s smile was faint:
“I’m honored to say I’ve secured my status as Miss Chi’s Nanchong.”
Chi Yuzhou almost choked on his tea. The hand holding the teacup trembled before he silently set it down.
Shi Ye’s sharp eyes turned cold, but he said no more.
That fight had been fierce. He had clearly taken back the auction item, but when he opened it again, it was empty.
The man before him had the ability to make objects disappear; he must have someone with a strange ability by his side.
Losing such an expensive item in the Underground Trading City, which was not governed by interstellar law—this was the first time he had suffered a defeat on his own turf.
Qi Ye remained silent throughout, only looking toward the door from time to time, his thoughts heavy.
“The Miss says it is inconvenient for her to come and asked me to deliver a message.”
The door opened, but the one who entered was Pu Jing.
Thus, Chi Wan, who was waiting in her room, was met by Pu Jing carrying the top auction item.
“The Family Head said I should first let you have a look at this item to see if you like it.”
Chi Wan wasn’t interested at first and only gave it a casual glance.
But the System’s voice rang out excitedly in her head:
[Take it, Host!]
[I’m not sure exactly what it’s used for, but it actually contains energy similar to the System’s. You must take it!]
…
Hearing Pu Jing say that Chi Wan liked it very much, Chi Yuzhou understood. He looked at the three men:
“Gentlemen, I, Chi Yuzhou, have never liked owing others. I’ll tell you the truth—this Nanchong matter was truly a misunderstanding.”
“How about this? I will refund every single Xingbi Commander Shi lost, and I will provide corresponding compensation to Mr. Chi and the others.”
Chi Yuzhou spoke, then looked at Chi Che:
“Mr. Chi, name a price for this auction item.”
Chi Che pulled the wooden box closer, cradling it carefully in his palm, and simply shook his head:
“I came specifically for the status of Miss Chi’s Nanchong. Other than that, I won’t sell it, not even for a heavenly price.”
…
A few minutes later.
Meeting four different gazes, Pu Jing entered once more:
“The Miss says… she’ll take it. Send both the person and the item to her room…”
Qi Ye could no longer hold back. The corners of his narrow eyes were tinged with red, and his gaze suddenly darkened.
Shi Ye lowered his gaze in silence, his knuckles turning slightly white.
Looking at the two whose expressions were clearly off, Chi Yuzhou looked away. Judging by their appearance, it seemed each of them had truly fallen for Wanwan.
…
It wasn’t long before Chi Che was led to Chi Wan’s room.
Sent along with him were many props pushed in by servants.
In the galaxy, it wasn’t uncommon for great families to keep “human pets.” The Nanchong or female pets kept would wear shackles or other exclusive markers to declare their master’s exclusive rights.
The servant clearly didn’t know which type Chi Wan wanted, so they simply brought one of everything.
When Chi Wan came out of her bedroom, what she saw was Chi Che and six full carts of props.
Before she could speak, Chi Che had already approached. Compared to her awkwardness, he was quite at ease.
He pressed the wooden box firmly into her palm and looked down at her:
“I know you only want this auction item.”
“But, please allow me to stay by your side in this shameless manner.”
Chi Wan looked up at him. His face was as pale as paper. Under the faint light filtering through the white gauze curtains, he looked fragile and sickly.
She frowned. “You aren’t anyone’s Nanchong. You are still a free man.”
These words, however, made him unhappy.
His handsome face turned another shade paler. The gaze he fixed on her flickered as he wound a rope around his distinct fingers and offered it to her palm:
“No. I am your Nanchong.”
The word Nanchong was a bit too much for Chi Wan. She had only wanted the auction item, and having Pu Jing bring him over was also so she could talk to him properly about the price of the item.
Seeing her frowning as if thinking of a strategy to politely refuse him, he sighed slightly and moved a step closer:
“It hurts.”
“What?”
Facing the white light, his sharp-featured face was divided between light and shadow. The half of his lips in the light was almost white.
Now that she was so close, Chi Wan noticed that his breathing was trembling slightly.
But with the “So cold” incident as a precedent, she reasonably suspected this was a tactic to gain sympathy.
She reached out to push him away, but he had already leaned his entire body over, resting most of his weight on her shoulder as if he had lost all strength.
Being pressed so closely, Chi Wan discovered that his muscles seemed to be vibrating slightly, as if he really were injured.
She was startled, and then she heard his voice, carrying hot breath as it sprayed against her ear:
“I was tested… I took an energy hit head-on.”
This voice sounded exactly like an injured soldier leaning on his wife’s shoulder to complain, intimacy mixed with flirtation.
Chi Wan frowned. “Who tested you?”
Chi Che didn’t answer, only saying muffledly:
“You must know a lot, right?”
Having said that, he seemed to want to stand up, but his balance faltered, and he was caught by Chi Wan amidst a muffled groan.
Chi Wan met his slightly misty black eyes and heard him call her clearly:
“Master.”
A man nearly two meters tall, much taller than her, was now bowing his head with a pale face, looking at her and calling her “Master.”
Chi Wan’s fingertips trembled, and she immediately let go of him and stepped back.
When they first met, he was cold and difficult to approach, always separated by a transparent film. Why was he like this now?
She pursed her lips and feigned aloofness:
“Why do you ask?”
“Back on A-73 Xingqiu, everyone only knew me as Mr. Chi. You were the only one who called me by my full name, Chi Che.”
Chi Wan was startled. she had forgotten about that. It seemed she had let it slip at some point.
“Then you should also know that I come from the KLP Galaxy and possess a Shaobing constitution.”
Chi Wan shook her head and played dumb. “I didn’t know.”
Faced with her stubbornness, he didn’t persist, only yielding:
“It doesn’t matter if you didn’t know. I’ve just memorized the Nanchong rules. One of them is that I cannot hide anything from my Master.”
Having said that, his gaze flickered as he looked at Chi Wan:
“Actually, I’ve always been worried about one thing.”
“What is it?”
“That you would be afraid of my mental entity.”
Chi Wan fell silent. She didn’t know what Chi Che’s mental entity was.
But why would he use the word “afraid”? Was his mental entity terrifying?
“If you are afraid, I will try to make it look a bit cuter.”
Immediately after, Chi Wan felt a powerful energy fluctuation.
Behind Chi Che, deep red energy surged, and a giant deep-red creature from the seabed appeared in the air!
Chi Wan’s eyes widened instantly.
A giant octopus, its tentacles stretching and unfolding.
Chi Che’s calm black eyes watched Chi Wan closely, noting her every reaction.
Seeing that she was only shocked and not very afraid, a tentacle tentatively approached her. A tip of a tentacle entwined around her ankle. The sensation, which she had never experienced before, made her senses react wildly.
Chi Wan shuddered.
The octopus mental entity vanished.
His gaze darkened. “You really are afraid.”
Actually, Chi Wan wasn’t afraid. Compared to those pollution bodies, this octopus wasn’t even terrifying; at most, it was a novelty.
It was just that the suction cups were too… they made her unable to stop shivering.
She tried to set the box on the table first but forgot about the rope in her hand. Although it was the lightest of pulls, his entire body stumbled forward and crashed into her.
She instinctively reached out to push him away. Just as her palm touched his chest, she heard him whisper:
“It hurts.”
It was very faint, yet incredibly pleasant to the ear.
How is this man like glass? He hurts with just a push.
Complaining in her heart, Chi Wan still withdrew her hand.
She looked away, no longer watching him.
“Aren’t you going back to your galaxy?”
“I went back last time.”
The light filtered through the white gauze was misty, coating the two of them in a hazy layer.
“After I went back, I couldn’t eat or sleep. My heart was full of regret. But fortunately, I’ve finally seen clearly what I want.”
Chi Wan’s hand clutching the box tightened. “What do you want?”
“To stay by your side.”
“Then what about your family?”
“I have no family.”
Liar.
Chi Wan complained in her heart, but then heard him continue:
“I am the Second Prince of the Sistia Empire in the KLP Galaxy. My mother and father’s marriage was an imperial alliance. She didn’t love him. She committed suicide after giving birth to me.”
The System hadn’t mentioned these things. Chi Wan looked at her:
“But you are her child. Didn’t she love you?”
Chi Che slowly shook his head. He looked down at her, his black eyes calm:
“She felt I was the child she had with the man who ruined her life. How could she love me?”
Chi Wan: “But…”
“My father also hated me because of it. But it worked out well; because of his distancing, I was able to hide my identity.”
Under Chi Wan’s puzzled gaze, Chi Che smiled faintly:
“The mental entities of the imperial bloodline of the Sistia Empire are all bears, yet I am a creature of the deep sea.”
“Fortunately, I’ve been taking medicine to hide my Shaobing constitution. Otherwise, if he discovered I wasn’t his biological son, either I would die, or he would.”
Chi Wan’s pupils dilated.
So, Chi Che’s biological mother actually gave birth to the child of the man she truly loved, but she never knew it until she died.
A bold guess rose in Chi Wan’s heart, and she asked him:
“Do you know who the man your mother loved was?”
“I don’t know. I only heard that he should be someone from the ALP Galaxy.”
Translator’s Note
Okay, the plot is definitely plotting! Chi Che being an Octopus-Sentinel from the KLP Galaxy is a huge reveal. In Chinese web novels, “Nanchong” (Male pet/concubine) characters often have these tragic backstories to make the FL feel pity for them. This makes the octopus even more “alien” to his own family!
