Chapter 112: Can’t Drive Him Away
The location for this operation was a massive Industrial City.
The Industrial City merged three cities into one and covered a vast area; it was the industrial core of Planet A-73.
It encompassed a large number of interstellar factories for starship manufacturing, robot production, and weapon fabrication.
Naturally, there were many pollution bodies, and the terrain was complex.
After the main force reached a fork in the road, they faced a division into teams.
There were three sources of pollution in the entire Industrial City. The main force was divided into three groups; Chi Wan was assigned together with K1 Base.
She immersed herself in combat the entire way, shutting out everything else.
By the time the sky began to dim, the two teams had only reached the halfway point of this treacherous path filled with mutated plants.
Their path led to Factory 107, the largest robot manufacturing plant on Planet A-73.
The comprehensive difficulty was predicted to be the lowest, which was why there were only two small teams.
“The sky is getting dark. Let’s find a secure building as quickly as possible to spend the night.”
“Alright.”
The two teams fought their way into a building. The Shaobing began to build fires as per their usual routine.
Every Shaobing had different living habits. Some would bring instant food and lunch boxes, while others preferred hot food due to their mental entities or personal preferences.
Chi Wan had just finished constructing a mental barrier when she felt something furry brush against her leg.
It wasn’t the first time.
It had happened during combat as well.
She turned her head and saw the miniature version of the Black Wolf King rubbing its head against her.
After a nudge, it lifted its cool, domineering wolf head to look at her. She could actually see a hint of fawning in its red wolf eyes.
She looked not far away. Although Shi Ye was facing away from her, he looked back almost the instant he felt her gaze.
Those calm black eyes seemed to speak.
Chi Wanâs heart was in a mess. She pursed her lips and stood up to go to the adjacent room to avoid him.
Just before the door closed, a large hand wearing leather gloves braced against it.
Shi Ye propped the door open and looked at Chi Wan:
“Did I do something to make you unhappy?”
“No.”
“You don’t want to say.”
“It’s not that.”
Seeing her avoiding him like this, Shi Ye lowered his eyes.
Although he had been fighting along the way, he had also been thinking.
Where had he done poorly these past few days?
Was it the theft of the auction item, or did the service at Gougou Paradise fail to satisfy her?
He thought it over and felt it wasn’t the issue with the auction item.
After all, although the item was intercepted by that man surnamed Chi, it did end up in her hands.
Then it could only be Gougou Paradise.
He had interrupted her when she was changing “dogs” that day.
Was it because of that?
The air was silent for a moment. Chi Wanâs strength was no match for his, so she gave up on closing the door and turned to walk inside.
After the sound of the door closing, the footsteps behind her gradually approached.
A wolfâs aura was usually forest-cold, but the current Black Wolf King didn’t look like a wolf at allâit was wagging its tail and begging for pity, fawning to the extreme.
Chi Wan was currently sitting. she shifted her leg to avoid the wolfâs body as it rubbed against her.
The black wolf froze slightly, then let out a whimpering whine of grievance.
Immediately after, it was withdrawn by Shi Ye.
“If you’re angry with me because of the Gougou Paradise incident, then I’m afraid I can’t make it up to you.”
His voice was raspy:
“You went to find those ‘dogs’… I’m jealous.”
Chi Wan was about to say it had nothing to do with any of that when she saw him arrive before her.
She looked at him and was surprised to find that he had withdrawn the black wolf specifically for “body transformation.”
Just as he had coaxed her in the tent that day, those grey-black wolf ears stood tall on his head. He knelt before her on one knee like this, gazing at her deeply.
“There’s a ready-made one here. It’s cleaner than those… others.”
His powerful mental power was majestic, cold, and sharp, just like his fierce black eyes.
Except when this sharpness faced her, it was always devoid of any aggression.
Chi Wan looked away.
Without the initial reckless desire to pet him, her heart even felt a faint repulsion.
This wasn’t hers. No matter how good it was, it wasn’t hers.
She stood up abruptly, her heel kicking the chair backward with a harsh, dragging sound.
“Commander Shi, please leave.”
Shi Yeâs gaze darkened, and his lip line pressed into a straight line. He lowered his eyes but was stubbornly refusing to go.
His voice grew even raspier: “Do you loathe me?”
Chi Wan met those black eyes.
Why?
Why were they each so persistent? She had already said such selfish things; couldn’t they just be ordinary colleagues who had nothing to do with each other?
Why did they have to care so much about her emotions, rushing to show her concern?
Such warmthâit was being given to her now, but if it were taken away later, she really wouldn’t be able to handle it.
It wasn’t that she wanted it this way. Who doesn’t want warmth? Who would push warmth away by force?
Anxious and at a loss, Chi Wan was starting to lose her composure.
Her breathing quickened, and her eyes grew a bit red:
“Can you please leave? Stop talking to me.”
She was really afraidâafraid that she would become dependent on their kindness.
Shi Ye stood up. Her reaction made him even more confused and pained. He took a step closer, stubbornly demanding a reason:
“Why?”
Chi Wan turned around to avoid his gaze.
Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to remain calm:
“Because I loathe you.”
The moment this sentenceâwhich she thought would drive him awayâlanded, she was gathered into his broad embrace.
He lowered his head, pressing tightly against her own, his voice raspy:
“I see.”
This excuse couldn’t drive him away.
He saw through her pretense and her lie with a single glance.
Chi Wanâs face was buried in his chest muscles. She was stunned for two seconds before she came to her senses, nearly on the verge of tears.
How could she not drive him away?
The door was opened at this moment.
Chi Che, draped in his robe, spoke with a trace of coldness in his voice:
“Double the reward has been given to you. Still haven’t given up?”
His body had only just recovered a bit when he rushed over after hearing the news from Sixteen.
Allowing her to be alone with a pack of jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopardsâhe wasn’t at ease at all.
As expected, he arrived to see such a scene.
This time, his anger surged to his heart, a breath of frustration blocking his throat. Chi Che yanked Chi Wan out of the embrace.
Translator’s Note
Shi Ye with wolf ears! This is a classic “moe” point in web novels where a tough, powerful man shows a vulnerable, animalistic side to the FL. Also, “Tutouhua” (Dodder flower/clingy vine) is implied here by how the MLs see Chi Wanâas something that needs protection.
