Chapter 131: The Chosen One
ELN Galaxy.
The man in the gold light-armored combat suit glanced sideways at Chi Wan:
“For lower-class people who want to ascend to Elysium, there are only two paths
—
Being granted an invitation to Elysium by the upper class, or… becoming part of the Emperor’s harem.”
At the end of his sentence, his eyes were full of contempt:
“But our Emperor won’t just take a liking to any woman.”
The four Imperial Consorts all hailed from former noble families; their looks and temperaments were second to none. Even those in the Pet Courtyard were exceptionally beautiful.
The Emperor had long ordered them not to report any women unless they possessed astonishing beauty.
Another man spoke impatiently, “Why are you talking so much nonsense with her? Take off your mask!”
Chi Wan took off her mask, revealing that small, dirty face that she hadn’t washed since smearing it with black mud.
This sight left the men, who had been holding some expectations, stunned.
Then, they burst into roaring laughter.
[A bunch of idiots.]
Hearing the System’s voice, Chi Wan merely frowned.
A high-ranking official at the back of the crowd noticed Chi Wan’s rippling blue-violet eyes shining through the black mud.
An extremely rare and beautiful color.
A hint of interest tainted his eyes, and he turned his head to order:
“Bring some water.”
A rough man in a combat suit directly splashed a bottle of water onto Chi Wan, washing away most of the black mud on her face and revealing the features beneath.
The space fell completely silent.
Everyone stared at her face in disbelief. The high-ranking official snapped back to his senses, communicated something through his optical computer, and arranged for people to send Chi Wan up to Elysium.
“The Emperor will definitely like her. He might even reward us heavily. We must be quick. Send her up, get her cleaned up, and then take her to see the Emperor.”
Chi Wan followed them onto the levitating elevator. The elevator’s space was enormous, almost capable of carrying a light-armored vehicle. It ascended all the way, reaching the top in just two or three minutes.
The higher they went, the brighter the white-gold light Chi Wan could see.
Having stayed in the black fog for so long, suddenly facing such bright light felt a bit blinding.
Chi Wan narrowed her eyes and looked up, immediately spotting three thick layers of barriers designed to resist the pollution fog, with linear blue lights flowing in overlapping layers.
Constructing a pollution fog barrier was extremely difficult and highly energy-consuming, requiring a massive energy supply to sustain it. A place like the X-K Alliance was only fully covered by a single layer, yet this Elysium, which was several times larger than the Alliance, was actually fully covered by three layers.
It was enough to show just how afraid of death these “upper-class” people were.
The levitating elevator arrived, and a white, gold-trimmed platform appeared before Chi Wan. She looked up and saw a heavily guarded legion of soldiers in gold light-armored combat suits holding guns. Behind them, a massive white tunnel entrance emitted a faint blue light.
“Let’s go.”
The man’s voice came from behind her. Before Chi Wan took a step, she turned her head to take one last look at the world behind her.
Beneath the glass, the deep, abyss-like, despairing blackness stretched endlessly.
She turned back in silence, followed the legion inside, and passed through the white tunnel entrance. Blue human purification lights flashed continuously around the tunnel, accompanied by purification sprays that showered down, completely purifying anyone who entered.
As soon as she exited the tunnel, Chi Wan saw a city that was more prosperous and wealthy than the most advanced planets in the ALP Galaxy.
A massive sky-screen hall formed a giant dome. The high-strength transparent material simulated the most beautiful sky from before the pollution, with blue skies, white clouds, and colorful glowing rays shining upon the ornately carved and painted architecture.
Magnetic levitation platforms flew in an orderly fashion through the air. The floating interstellar gardens and various towers were dazzlingly bright.
“No need to be envious. Serve the Emperor well and successfully stay, and you can live here forever.”
The man in the gold combat suit said as he stepped onto a platform parked on the ground ahead:
“Come on up.”
Chi Wan followed him up, and the platform began to fly. She looked toward the tunnel entrance they had just left and found four large words prominently displayed above it
—Filth Realm Entrance.
Only from a distance did she realize the tunnel entrance was shaped quite like a mouse hole.
Chi Wan withdrew her gaze and looked around. Occasionally, platforms flew past in the air, and the people on them were all dressed luxuriously, exuding the stench of money nourished by abundant resources.
The platform flew all the way toward the tallest building right in the center. The building’s exterior, made of some unknown material, emitted a gold-white light and was extremely extravagant.
As they neared the tall building, the System suddenly spoke:
[It’s the aura of a Rogue System, Host!]
Chi Wan lowered her brows. Why is it another Rogue System?
[Rogue Systems are running rampant right now, and many planes have been invaded by them. It seems this world has already been altered by a Rogue System; no wonder it’s so absurd and bizarre.]
The System said, leaving one last sentence before going silent:
[I’m going back to the Main God Space to ask if any system has information about this world. I’ll be right back!]
“We’re here. Get off.”
The man in the white suit waiting below raised his eyebrows in surprise when he saw Chi Wan, the arrogance on his face fading a bit:
“Follow me.”
With such astonishing beauty, she was bound to win the Emperor’s favor. He had to be respectful; she might even be promoted to Imperial Consort in the future.
In the magnificent building, the different areas were far apart and required suspension platforms to travel between. Chi Wan followed the man, who looked like a manager, onto a new small platform. The platform flew into the central space of the building, went all the way up, and stopped at a tunnel entrance.
“This floor is the bathing level for all the women in the Emperor’s Pet Courtyard. Walk forward, and someone will take you inside.”
Chi Wan nodded and walked forward. At the door, several women dressed in white led Chi Wan inside.
The one in the lead educated her on some rules:
“The Emperor likes women who are obedient, sweet-talking, and cooperative. You must know that being able to get close to the Emperor is your honor, and you must grasp this precious opportunity yourself.”
Chi Wan listened but didn’t take it to heart. Around her, some women wearing various bathrobes cast their gazes at Chi Wan.
There was jealousy, wariness, sorrow, and pity—their expressions varied.
The guide continued:
“The Emperor has some special fetishes. You just need to cooperate. Avoid running away or screaming. If you make him unhappy, there is only one path to death.”
“You have two hours to wash yourself clean inside and out. I will personally inspect you when the time is up.”
After the guide finished speaking, she gave a look toward the inside, gesturing for Chi Wan to enter.
Chi Wan walked through the mist-filled doors and found the space inside even more spacious.
Various individual changing rooms, bathtubs, and many frosted glass rooms whose functions she didn’t know were arranged in an orderly manner.
You couldn’t see the inside from the outside, so the privacy was fairly good.
She was indeed very dirty and needed a bath. Previously, there was no water source down below. To save the drinking water in her spatial dimension, she had only secretly washed herself three or four times.
Chi Wan washed up quickly and then began to act.
Every room had a ventilation shaft. She took tools from her space to pry open the vent, pulled out some supplies from her space to use as a stepping stool, and climbed up. After climbing into the ventilation shaft, Chi Wan stored the supplies back into her space and tightly closed the vent.
She crawled through the ventilation ducts. The moisture here was heavy, and the ducts were very damp. In no time, the new combat suit she had changed into was mostly wet.
The System’s voice echoed at this moment:
[Host, I figured it out.]
[The original Heaven’s Favored of this world was Tang Lian.]
Chi Wan’s crawling paused, and the image of that tall, thin, silent, dark-skinned middle-aged man with his dead eyes floated in her mind.
The original Heaven’s Favored had now turned into a walking corpse.
[The mentality of a Heaven’s Favored is always more resilient than ordinary people and hard to crush. If he hadn’t suffered too many blows and suppression, he wouldn’t look like this at all.]
[Host, be careful. I want you to be safe.]
