Chapter 77: Surprise part 1

The thought that Zong Hao might be in danger arose, and it simply couldn’t be suppressed.

Whether it was because his daytime thoughts manifested as dreams at night, Ning Yunyi also had a nightmare that evening. In the dream, Zong Hao stood in the darkness, looking at him. His entire figure was hidden in the shadows, making it impossible to see clearly, but he smiled at him before turning and walking away into the distance.

When Ning Yunyi woke up, he couldn’t remember his reaction in the dream. He only sat up, his heart pounding violently as if he had just finished a strenuous sprint.

He was never one to dwell indecisively on things. Since these omens had appeared one after another, he decided to make a trip.

After making his decision, Ning Yunyi went straight to find Big Brother Ning.

Big Brother Ning had been so busy recently that he didn’t return until late at night. At first, seeing Ning Yunyi staying up in the middle of the night waiting for him, he wondered if something had happened. But upon hearing that Ning Yunyi wanted to go to the border, he immediately vetoed it: “No, it’s too dangerous there. Even Marshal Zong almost didn’t make it back last time. You’ve never been there; I can’t let you take that risk.” After saying that, he made a resolute decision. “If you’re worried, I’ll make a trip over. I’m very familiar with the area, so it’s more appropriate for me to go than you.”

How could Ning Yunyi dare to let Big Brother Ning take that risk? Even though His Majesty might not target the Ning family too much because the Second Prince didn’t care about the throne, there was no guarantee that, with such a good opportunity placed in front of him, His Majesty wouldn’t adopt a ‘better to kill by mistake than to let go’ approach.

Ning Yunyi shook his head. “No, Big Brother. You don’t have healing abilities. If Marshal Zong is truly in danger and facing a life-threatening situation, I can treat him if I go. But if you go, it might just be a two-for-one casualty. Big Brother, I am no longer the child who needs to hide behind you. Right now, my healing power and even my mental power are above yours. Big Brother… I can protect myself. Trust me, okay?”

Afraid that Big Brother Ning wouldn’t believe him, he let a cluster of mental power overflow from his palm, instantly wrapping around Big Brother Ning. The formidable, lethal force was swiftly retracted the moment it was sensed. Not only that, but accompanying the mental power was an equally powerful healing force. These two entirely different yet equally formidable powers left Big Brother Ning unable to recover his senses for a long time.

He always knew his little brother was very strong now, but he never expected him to be strong to this extent. Even Marshal Zong might not necessarily be his match.

Big Brother Ning was completely reassured, but he was still hesitating. Finally, meeting Ning Yunyi’s persistent gaze, he nodded. “But what about our parents…”

Ning Yunyi hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to keep it a secret. “I’ll need Big Brother to help me keep it from Father and Mother for now.” Whether the two elders would allow him to go was one thing, but he couldn’t let them live in constant fear and worry while he was away. Furthermore, his departure couldn’t be announced to the public. If his father acted unusually, it might lead His Majesty to associate him with the “expert.”

Big Brother Ning sighed. Afraid of worrying the two elders, he could only agree. “But you must promise me, if there’s an accident, protect yourself first… Little brother, please don’t make us worry, okay?”

Ning Yunyi’s nose felt a bit sour. “Big Brother, I will.” The reason he dared to guarantee this was because he still had a protective talisman—his dimension space. But this secret couldn’t be shared with anyone. It wasn’t a matter of distrust, but rather that this thing was his ultimate trump card, to be used only as a last resort.

After gaining Big Brother Ning’s approval, Ning Yunyi contacted Ichi so that Ichi could accompany him. However, the men under Ichi’s command were left behind on the Capital Star so that, in case of an emergency, Big Brother Ning could dispatch them, serving as a layer of protection for the Ning family.

Ichi naturally had no objections, but he was curious why the Second Young Master Ning was suddenly running off to find the Marshal out of nowhere. Could it be that he knew some inside information about someone trying to harm the Marshal?

Harboring this thought, Ichi’s expression also grew solemn. He packed everything he could possibly bring, and only then did he and Ning Yunyi quietly leave the Capital Star in a private spaceship.

Before leaving, Ning Yunyi asked the little meow cub for his old rattan ball that he no longer played with.

The little guy was quite nostalgic. Even after Ning Yunyi gave him a new rattan ball, he still couldn’t bear to part with the old one, so he specifically stored it away in a box. This time, hearing that his father was going on a business trip, although he was reluctant, he heard it was absolutely necessary. The little guy could only hand the old rattan ball to his father with reluctance, his eyes brimming with tears as he made Ning Yunyi promise to video call him every night.

Ning Yunyi naturally agreed without hesitation. He couldn’t bear to part with the little guy either, but there was no helping it. If he didn’t make this trip and the nightmare came true, he wouldn’t even have the chance to regret it.

Ning Yunyi and Ichi flew for ten days and ten nights, taking turns piloting the spaceship, before arriving at a planet on the very edge of the interstellar borders. Before they even landed on the wasteland, they were shocked by the deafening roars of the beast tide howling in the distance.

Listening to these ghostly wails and wolf-like howls, Ning Yunyi wore a bizarre expression. “Didn’t you say there was only an insect tide?”

Ichi scratched his head. “When the Marshal arrived, he realized that the mutated beasts had gotten smarter this time and didn’t appear right away. It was only after arriving that he found the situation was much more severe than expected. Fortunately, the Marshal quickly brought it under control after he got here. The Marshal was afraid you would worry, so he didn’t let me tell you…” That was why, when he heard Second Young Master Ning wanted to come, Ichi’s first thought was that something bad was about to happen, and he decisively came along.

He was the Marshal’s commanding officer. If someone truly had to die, he had to die before the Marshal did.

Ning Yunyi fell silent: So it turns out there really is a possibility of “sacrifice.” Ichi is truly obedient; if he’s told not to speak, he doesn’t speak. In the end, instead of waiting for the person to return, I might have just been waiting for bad news, right?

Ichi thought Ning Yunyi was angry and rubbed his nose. “Sorry, Second Young Master. This matter… naturally also has the reason of being a military secret that can’t be easily spoken about.”

Ning Yunyi: Your attempt to patch things up is completely too late, okay?

But he also knew the other party meant well, so he waved his hand. “No matter. Now that we’re here, how do we go find him?”

Ichi assessed the situation. “Right now, the Marshal is probably still leading his men in battle. I’ll take Second Young Master to the base. You can get in there using a special pass. It serves as a rear camp and is relatively safe.”

Ning Yunyi gave an affirmative ‘mm’. He had come this time using the persona of Mr. Bai. Just in case, he was wrapped tightly from head to toe, and he also wore a black mask on his face. If an emergency really occurred, when he made his move, he could simply say the ‘expert’ was using the title of Mr. Bai.

The two flew the private spaceship and soon arrived outside the camp. Ichi smoothly passed through using his own ID. Coupled with the fact that Ichi was the commanding officer and answered only to Marshal Zong, even without receiving direct orders, they still allowed Ichi to fly the spaceship in.

The outer perimeter of the base consisted of very high walls topped with electrified grids. If any giant insects or mutated beasts approached or tried to launch a sneak attack, they would be detected and electrocuted. Thus, it was a safe zone for resting in the rear.
