Chapter 83: Official Status [End of Main Story]; “Hello there…” part 1
“Shen Yunqian!”
Su Zhuo crunched over the gravel, shouting in a panic when he saw the two figures in the distance.
Seeing an unfamiliar youth charging alone toward Lu Xunye, Zhou Xiang instinctively stood up from Si Zhengâs side.
“What are you doing?” Si Zheng asked. “Trust that the young people can handle their own affairs. Don’t worry about it.”
“But the Young Master isâ”
Zhou Xiang watched as the youth exchanged a few words with Lu Xunye in the distance. Seeing no hostility between them, even the most obtuse person would realize the situation. “Is that boy a friend of the Young Master?”
“Well, well, Mr. Lu!”
Su Zhuo “enthusiastically” grabbed Lu Xunyeâs arm and shook it up and down. “What a pleasure, what a pleasure! We meet again. I truly didn’t expect to see you here. Isn’t this just fate?”
There was no need to put it that way. Lu Xunyeâs eyelid twitched; he felt the other man was being incredibly sarcastic. Recalling their previous interactions, he was absolutely certain that Su Zhuo was mocking him.
He turned his gaze toward Shen Yunqian. It seemed Su Zhuo was also in the loop.
“It is indeed fate, President Su. You certainly have a short memory for a busy man. Weâ” Lu Xunye glanced up at the sky, following the other’s lead to debunk him, “âjust met a few hours ago.”
“Did you see Jian Luoqing?” Shen Yunqian asked.
“How could I not? Tell me, did the signal jammer also jam your IQ? Making a sick person run around looking for a signal to contact meâyou really have some nerve.”
“I saw the roof of that car of yours outside is pretty badly damaged, and the tires are shot. Tell me, if I hadn’t come, how were you two planning to get back?”
Lu Xunye finally knew where Shen Yunqian had learned to scold people; it was clearly from the same school of thought.
Shen Yunqian: “I didn’t drive. You saw wrong.”
“Impossible. That car is myâ”
Su Zhuoâs voice cut off. When Shen Yunji was abroad, he had personally participated in the design of that carâs exterior as an adulthood gift for Shen Yunqian. It had been shipped back to the country six months in advance and kept at the Su residence. Su Zhuo had been entrusted by Shen Yunji to deliver it personally the day before Shen Yunqianâs birthday.
But since the Shen family’s disaster, that car had been kept in the garage of the old Shen mansion like a sacred relic. Even after the mansion was auctioned off, the car remained untouched. One could say it had never been driven once.
Some time ago, Shen Yunqian had unexpectedly asked him to intercept a person, saying it might be Shen Yunji. The results of the investigation into that person’s identity were ordinary, so he hadn’t taken it seriously at the time. Could it be…?
“Whatâs wrong with the car?” Shen Yunqian asked, seeing his sudden silence.
Su Zhuo snapped out of it and looked at Shen Yunqian, unable to suppress his smile. “Nothing. I was just thinking that someone owes me a bottle of wine and itâs time to collect.”
It was no secret that Su Zhuo loved collecting wine. For a wine to be on his mind, it must be incredibly expensive. The memory of him swindling Pei Huaizhi out of a three-million-dollar vintage was still fresh.
Shen Yunqian assumed another unlucky soul had been scammed and didn’t expose him. “Who did you do a huge favor for this time?”
The two of them went back and forth, and Lu Xunye couldn’t understand a single word. His head was already throbbing, and now it was on the verge of crashing.
Finally, he straightened out Su Zhuoâs words and looked around, noticing Jian Luoqing was missing. “Where is Jian Luoqing?”
“Fainted. Since he said you were fine, out of basic humanity and duty, I left people behind to take him to the hospital by a detour.”
Su Zhuo teased Shen Yunqian, “Iâd heard this ‘White Moonlight’ was delicate, but I didn’t expect him to be this fragile. Youâve got one ‘Princess and the Pea’ and one ‘Sleeping Beauty’ here. If Iâd known you two could become friends, I would have started with him from the beginning.”
“You seem to be in a very good mood,” Lu Xunye commented.
Now that everything was in the light, was it impossible to keep up the act? Had the polite, refined gentleman from before been swapped?
These twoâone an understanding “Sugar Daddy” and the other a resilient “White Lotus” trapped by loveâplayed the “stranger” game to perfection.
Damn it. He wondered how there could have really been a “slave contract”! They had truly fooled even him just to trick Si Jinyan. Lu Xunye realized belatedly that he had been miserably deceived by these two.
“I am in a pretty good mood.” Su Zhuo finally noticed the bloody old bandage by his feet. His playful mood vanished as his gaze flickered between the two of them. “Whoâs injured?”
Meeting his gaze, Lu Xunye let out a light cough and said stubbornly, “What are you looking at? How could I be injured?”
“True.” Su Zhuo had personally witnessed Lu Xunye climbing walls, jumping out of windows, fighting, and “drifting” on the highway. This statement carried high credibility.
Then he saw Shen Yunqianâs wrist wrapped in gauze. He didn’t need to think to know what had happened.
“You really weren’t afraid that crazy woman would kill you. You even left your life-saving items outside, and the tracker failed. I think you’re crazier than she is.”
Without a signal, how could the tracker work? Shen Yunqian wanted to say this, but he knew the other man was just worried about him, so he allowed the scolding.
However, as he listened, his eyelids grew heavier and heavier.
Lu Xunye was quick to catch the swaying youth in a half-embrace. He used his forehead to check the otherâs temperature, his voice very soft: “He doesn’t seem to have a fever. Where do you feel unwell?”
“Oho. It seems congratulations are in order.”
Lu Xunye followed the source of the teasing voice and saw Su Zhuoâs speechless expression. Instantly, his temper flared. “Youâre sick! What is there to congratulate?”
Su Zhuo stared at him with a silent smile, making Lu Xunyeâs skin crawl.
Shen Yunqian gripped Lu Xunyeâs arm to steady himself. “Did you… bring the thing?”
Su Zhuo handed over a prepared item. “Here. This won’t completely cure your illness. Use it less in the future.”
Heâs sick? Lu Xunye was startled. Before he could ask what the medicine was, Shen Yunqian had already injected the contents of the syringe into his arm.
Lu Xunye helped him sit down. After a while, Shen Yunqian regained his energy.
“Are you sick?” Lu Xunye leaned in, subtly wrapping his arm around Shen Yunqianâs waist. Through the fabric, his warm palm pressed against the spot where the otherâs lower back had hit the rubble, rubbing it gently. He could feel a clear swelling. “Does this still hurt?”
“Iâm not sick. Itâs just to refresh me.” Shen Yunqian pressed down on the hand on his back. “You didn’t hurt me. No need to rub it.”
“Cough.” Su Zhuo cleared his throat as a muffled warning.
“…” Lu Xunyeâs hand snapped away as if burned. He raised his hand to scratch the back of his head as a cover.
…
“So… did you see who the person behind the scenes was?” After waiting for Shen Yunqian to feel better, Su Zhuo finally asked the question. “Does the matter with your parents have anything to do with this person?”
Shen Yunqian didn’t want to dwell on the subject. He rubbed his throbbing temples and stood up. “Iâll tell you the details later. I have one thing to ask you now.”
Su Zhuo could vaguely guess what the question was. A flash of guilt crossed his face, which he quickly suppressed. “…Ask.”
He said he was going to ask, but he just stared at him without saying a word. Su Zhuo gave in. “Fine, don’t ask. You want to know how Shen Qizhao died, right? I didn’t kill him.”
“But it was related to you,” Shen Yunqian said with certainty.
“Who knew Yu Yao was so easily triggered,” Su Zhuo muttered.
Shen Yunqian furrowed his brow and closed his eyes. When he opened them, a flicker of anger flashed. “Who told you to hide this and act on your own?”
“What, are you angry?” Su Zhuo was incensed by the interrogation. “Shen Yunqian, are you going to sue me for that old bastard?”
“I did provoke his wife, but I only let her see her husbandâs true colors with her own eyes.”
Su Zhuoâs eyes narrowed dangerously as he took a step closer. “Blood relation or not, don’t tell me you were planning to forgive and forget from the start. Have you forgotten how he treated you? Or have you forgotten how your parents died?”
