The Cannon Fodder Omega’s Mental Power is Off the Charts [Transmigration] Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Aggrieved – You’re about to have exams, you know?

Yu Xia looked at the kind passerby. “Regardless, I really want to thank you.”

The kind person only smiled and didn’t say much. However, the other person beside him curiously circled Yu Xia a few times, seemingly still unable to believe it. “Are you really a Mental Power Disorder patient? Hey, I don’t mean anything bad by your illness, but I’ve lived this long and never actually seen one. I heard people with this condition are in extreme pain all over. Is that true?”

Yu Xia thought for a moment. “Actually, it’s not exceptionally painful. It’s just that continuous, dull aching sensation that makes one feel particularly uncomfortable. If you’re just lying still, you don’t feel it’s that bad once you get used to it.”

The person let out an “oh.” “Then it sounds alright. Not too difficult. When others talk about it, they say living with this disease is incredibly tough. There must be some exaggeration involved, right?”

Yu Xia chuckled softly. “Probably.”

The kind person pulled his wandering companion back to his side and apologized to Yu Xia. “Sorry, he just takes things at face value. Don’t listen to his nonsense.”

The other man wasn’t convinced and argued, “How am I talking nonsense?”

“Tomorrow during your routine training, I’ll have Uncle Luo lay a layer of acupressure boards on your treadmill. After you run for a few hours, you’ll know if you were talking nonsense or not.”

The man immediately shut his mouth.

Laying acupressure boards on a treadmill—that was definitely not something a human would do.

However, an active person could never stay quiet for long. Before long, he started circling Yu Xia again. “Does it really hurt that much?”

Yu Xia shook his head. “I don’t know. I spend most of my time sitting. I’ve never walked on acupressure boards.”

“That won’t do! For Mental Power Disorder, you have to exercise your body yourself, otherwise, it won’t get better,” the man urged with sincere concern.

Yu Xia nodded and let out a sigh. “Mhm. Something went wrong recently and my mental power rose another level. Now, even if it’s just to avoid becoming a vegetable, I have to do my best to exercise.”

The man sighed along with him and patted Yu Xia’s shoulder. “That’s way too miserable. I can’t help much with other things, but if you need anything regarding physical training, feel free to ask us. I train daily, so theoretically, I can help you. Come, come, let’s add each other as friends.”

Before they could even exchange friend IDs, they were interrupted: “Stop causing trouble. Mental Power Disorder patients are different from ordinary people. They need specially customized training schedules that are completely different from our usual routines.”

“Really?”

Yu Xia nodded. “I haven’t officially started exercising yet. I need to complete a full physical checkup before a training schedule can be formulated. Besides, this isn’t something to be rushed; it has to be done slowly.”

“True. But I heard Dr. Lu Yao is working on a constitution-enhancing potion that patients with Mental Power Disorder can use. Maybe she’ll succeed by then! You might even make it in time!”

“The number of Mental Power Disorder patients is small to begin with. Dr. Lu Yao has been researching this potion for eight or nine years and has published over a dozen papers, but there are still no concrete results. She’s taken out quite a few other patents, though, which shows this potion is still a long way off—at least, it doesn’t exist yet. Placing hope on a potion that currently has no news is unrealistic. However, you should indeed leave a contact method. If there are any breakthroughs, we can let you know.”

Yu Xia blinked and pulled out his light screen. “Sure! Thank you both!”

Such warm-hearted kind people were truly a rare find!

Yu Xia added both of them as friends.

Of the two people he met, one was named Luo Dian and the other was named Qing Zheng. They seemed like names chosen at random. Yu Xia was the same; he had casually picked the name “Tulip.”

After adding friends, Luo Dian became curious again. “Tulip… that seems to be a type of flower from the Ancient Earth era. Speaking of which, you look like you’ve just reached adulthood. Have you never been to the Virtual Community before?”

Yu Xia nodded. “Yeah, I only recently became an adult. This is my first time entering the Virtual Community. Earlier, I just wasn’t used to the body in the virtual space, which is why I fell.”

Luo Dian scratched his head. “It shouldn’t be that bad, right? Although it’s a bit uncoordinated the first time you enter, it shouldn’t lead to a direct fall. I was so curious when I saw you trip that I looked a few extra times.”

Yu Xia shook his head. “It’s quite different. In the virtual body, there’s no pain when walking. After getting used to my real body, walking in the Virtual Community feels like stepping on cotton. My feet don’t feel steady at all.”

“It’s like that? That really is hard to handle. Then Old Qin, why did you say he just needed to get used to it? This is totally different!”

Yu Xia also looked toward the kind person with the delicious-sounding name, Qing Zheng.

Qing Zheng coughed twice. “Dr. Lu Yao once mentioned that in her early years of training, she often went to the Virtual Community to slack off. Back then, holographic cabins had only just hit the market!”

Yu Xia blinked. He was becoming quite familiar with the name Lu Yao.

Mental Power Disorder patients were rare, and successful cases of recovery were even rarer. Dr. Lu Yao was the most recent and successful example. But even as the most successful case, her constitution had only reached B+ rank. It was said that occasionally, when her mental power was overused or went out of control, her body would still throb with pain, and she needed to periodically consume her surging mental energy.

“I’ve heard of Dr. Lu Yao. My attending physician often mentions her case. Do you know her?”

Qing Zheng thought for a moment before answering, “I haven’t actually seen Dr. Lu Yao much, but I see her father and brother often. Her brother is a total ‘sister-complex’ and often brings her up. However, her case doesn’t seem to have much reference value for ordinary people. Dr. Lu Yao started daily training when she was in her early teens. She had already developed the habit of exercising before differentiation. Even though her body hurt after differentiation, her endurance was much higher than that of an average person. The most important thing for you right now is to get used to moving as soon as possible.”

Yu Xia gave an “mhm.” “It shouldn’t take long. I’m already used to the current dull pain. Once the specific physical checkup results are in, I should be able to start exercising.”

Luo Dian offered some comfort too. “Keep it up! Although your start is a bit slower than Dr. Lu’s, your starting point is higher! Dr. Lu started from an E-rank constitution back then, and she was able to train up to B-rank. Your current constitution should be better than hers was, so have confidence in yourself!”

Yu Xia flattened his lips. “Even though it is a bit better than Dr. Lu’s, it’s not by much.”

The light screen on Qing Zheng’s hand flashed; it seemed someone was looking for him. He glanced at the message and said to Yu Xia, “We have things to do, so we’ll be heading off. Regardless, keep your spirits up. As long as you still want to recover, there is hope for a cure.”

Yu Xia was somewhat moved by these words.

To both Luo Dian and Qing Zheng, he was just a stranger. Yet they didn’t judge him for his illness and even comforted him so gently. To them, it might have been just a few casual remarks, but to Yu Xia, it felt quite warm.

After parting ways with the two, Yu Xia spent some time getting used to his feet on his own. He then wandered to other places, exploring this Virtual Community that the Interstellar era called the “Second World.”

In the Virtual Community, there was also a Game Hall featuring countless popular games currently on the market. Ranked number one was a game called Interstellar Battlefield.

Yu Xia had never accessed the Virtual Community before, so he had naturally never played it. However, after becoming familiar with Interstellar optical computers, he had seen news about this game online. It was said to be a core game released based on real mechs and starships. The appearance was identical, and the data was restored as much as possible. While it couldn’t perfectly replicate mechs from reality—since real mechs were crafted by mechanical masters over countless hours and much of the data was classified—it was still a great way for ordinary people to get a thrill.

Because the game utilized mental power, people who couldn’t operate mechs in reality due to their physical constitution could pilot them in the game. Those who needed to pilot mechs in reality could also use the game to reinforce their training. Overall, the game met the needs of various groups, which explained why it was so popular.

Yu Xia wandered around the Virtual Community a bit more. However, he was only there to take a look today, not to actually do anything. Besides, the Director and Dr. Yu were waiting back in the ward. Therefore, after wandering for a while, he logged off.

Seeing him open his eyes from the helmet, Xie Qing immediately approached and hurriedly asked about his experience with the holographic helmet: “How was it? How was it? The holographic helmet is pretty good, right?”

Yu Xia sincerely agreed with Director Xie’s words. “Mhm. And, the person created in the Virtual Community doesn’t feel pain when walking. I’m still not used to walking in there yet; it feels a bit like I’m floating.”

Xie Qing burst into a “haha” laugh. “After all, the Virtual Community is controlled entirely by mental power. However, even though it doesn’t hurt in there, you can’t let yourself get immersed in it. You must remember that exercising your body is a matter of urgency. Your body can’t wait any longer!”

Yu Xia nodded solemnly. “Don’t worry, Director. I know. I should be able to do the physical checkup soon, right?”

As he spoke, he turned his gaze toward Dr. Yu.

Dr. Yu flipped through the records on his optical computer. “The physical checkup requires the presence of the attending physician. Let me see… you were delayed today because of the mental power manifestation. However, looking at you, your recovery today seems decent. If all goes well, we can perform the checkup tomorrow or the day after. These next two days, wear the helmet before bed to review your courses and consume some mental power. Don’t waste time—you’re about to have exams, you know?”

Yu Xia flattened his lips aggrievedly.

This was really asking too much of him. He had never been exposed to what Interstellar schools required, and the original owner hadn’t studied properly due to health issues, living in a state of just getting by. Asking him to catch up in such a short time was far too difficult.

However, in this regard, even Director Xie was very firm. He pressed a hand on Yu Xia’s head. “Study hard. The exam is in two months. I’ve already requested an exam spot for you at Imperial Star Academy. Because of your ultra-high mental power and Mental Power Disorder, the school will give you extra points. But Imperial Star Academy is one of the best schools in the entire Empire. Even with extra points, you still have to review well, understand?”

Yu Xia… Yu Xia could only let out an aggrieved “mhm.”
