Chapter 3: After Becoming the CEO’s Sickly White Moonlight 3
The completely silver-gray Koenigsegg Gemera erupted with a piercing roar as it shuttled down the road. Pei Yu sat in the back seat, covering his lips and coughing a few times.
By his conscience, he merely asked Jiang Chen to have Steward Li help drop him off at the company. Heaven knows what went through that CEO adult’s mind to dig out this car from the garage.
It was as flashy as a show-off.
Steward Li noticed Pei Yu’s coughing and said, “Mr. Pei, the temperature has dropped these past few days. Your body is weak, remember to put on more clothes.”
“En, understood. Thank you for the reminder, Uncle Li.”
Pei Yu revealed a faint smile. His pale skin and sickly complexion made Steward Li’s heart ache as he nagged for a few more sentences.
System: …
Heh, shameless green tea man.
How could the system not know how good Pei Yu’s physique was? Taking on ten people at once wouldn’t be a problem for him.
Looking half-dead right now was simply him acting too well.
No one would think that such a half-dead invalid could stir up any waves.
“What waves can an invalid stir up.” Pei Liang rubbed his hair, yawning lazily.
Pei Zhisheng coldly snorted, “He’s nothing, but that doesn’t stop the Old Master from valuing him.”
Speaking of the Old Master, Pei Zhisheng’s face darkened like deep water.
Pei Liang could tell his father was in a bad mood, his expression paused for a moment, and he reined in his improper demeanor, standing properly beside Pei Zhisheng.
The early autumn morning was somewhat cold. Having stood at the company entrance for quite a while, Pei Liang was frozen to the point of sneezing several times.
Sniffling, he said through gritted teeth, “What does that invalid, Pei Yu, mean by this? It’s already so late and he still hasn’t arrived.”
“What’s the rush,” Pei Zhisheng shot Pei Liang a sidelong glance, “How late were you fooling around last night? Looking this sleepy.”
“Not that late…”
Pei Liang laughed it off. His blurry gaze shifted, and suddenly an extremely tall figure appeared in front of him.
The man wore a light coffee-colored trench coat with a beige turtleneck sweater underneath, covering right up to his chin.
His brows and eyes were the familiar prettiness from Pei Liang’s memory, as exquisite as an ink wash painting, the density of his features harmonizing perfectly, while carrying a trace of sickliness.
While Pei Liang was observing him, Pei Yu was also observing the other party.
His body hollowed out by wine and women, the originally decent and handsome appearance had become like jewelry covered in dust.
Pei Yu curled up a modest smile and said, “Uncle, Cousin, there was traffic on the road, I’m late.”
“Little Yu ah, haven’t seen you for so many years, you’ve grown so tall.”
Pei Zhisheng was stunned for a moment, then raised his hand and patted Pei Yu’s chest.
He used quite a bit of force. Pei Yu was thumped to the point of coughing several times, his pale face even gaining a flush of red.
Seeing Pei Yu coughing incessantly, Pei Liang pulled Pei Zhisheng’s arm away and blocked in front of Pei Yu.
“Dad, you work out frequently, your hands are heavy without realizing it. Pei Yu’s health is poor, he can’t withstand you thumping him like that.”
Pei Liang raised his hand and patted Pei Yu’s back to smooth his breathing, saying gently, “Let’s go. It’s cold outside, we’ll talk after we enter the company.”
“Alright… Cough cough cough…”
The faint scent of alcohol on Pei Liang’s body made Pei Yu frown without batting an eyelid.
Pei Yu followed beside Pei Liang and was led into the company. The employees inside immediately paid their respects with their eyes.
Pei Yu turned his head and offered a friendly smile.
Only after the three people entered the elevator did the onlooking employees begin to whisper amongst themselves.
“Is he the new Vice President?”
“He looks so good-looking, what a pity, his health isn’t very good.”
“He even smiled at us just now…”
“It feels like Vice President Pei has a very good temper.”
“…”
“Cough cough cough,” Feng Cui glanced over, saying coldly, “Are all your tasks finished? You still have the leisure to discuss these things?”
The woman looked very fierce, and the employees quieted down and honestly went back to work.
The sound of keyboard typing replaced the noisy discussions. Feng Cui’s expression eased slightly as she looked towards the direction of the elevator.
The days ahead for this newly arrived Vice President Pei wouldn’t be too easy.
Feng Cui organized the documents in her hands and stepped on her stilettos, walking towards the office.
“It seems Pei Yu’s health is indeed not very good.”
Pei Liang leaned against the desk, playing with an airplane model on the desk with his head down as if he had no bones.
Pei Zhisheng watched his actions, loosening his tie upon hearing this.
Pei Zhisheng: “Not necessarily.”
Pei Liang: “How so, Dad?”
Pei Zhisheng: “Back then, to treat Pei Yu’s illness, Pei Zhiyu did not hesitate to abandon everything he had in Yuehui. Now that Pei Yu has returned to the country, Pei Zhiyu actually stayed abroad with peace of mind. If you were Pei Zhiyu, would you rest assured letting an invalid come back?”
Pei Liang froze for a moment: “You think Pei Yu is faking his illness? That’s impossible right… Can he fake that half-dead appearance?”
“We can’t let our guard down. Your father, I, have operated for so many years, I definitely can’t let that brat get his hands on it. Also, especially be careful of that kid from the Jiang family.”
Thinking of that silver-gray Koenigsegg from this morning, Pei Zhisheng’s heart sank.
“Got it, Dad. When I find a chance, I’ll beat him down a bit.”
Pei Liang pulled his phone out from his pocket. Looking at the chat records on it, malice surfaced in his eyes.
“Hasn’t the opportunity just presented itself…”
…
“Alright, I got it, sorry for troubling Uncle Li.”
Jiang Chen hung up the phone, the heaviness in his heart dissipating slightly. Having Steward Li drop Pei Yu off at Yuehui was precisely a show put on for Pei Zhisheng to see.
That old fox had a lot of schemes up his sleeve. For his sake, he wouldn’t target Pei Yu too much.
The lighting in the private booth flickered between bright and dark. Jiang Chen put down his phone and looked towards the person whose body was mostly hidden in the shadows.
Cui Feixu pursed his lips, his hand resting on the shoulder of the person beside him, smiling like a fox: “Hey, Old Qu, what kind of bad idea do you think this Jiang Chen is holding in his heart again?”
“I’m not the roundworm in his stomach.” The man’s tone was low, his voice carrying a laziness as if he hadn’t fully woken up.
He played with the wine glass in his hand. His flamboyant and gorgeous brows and eyes met Jiang Chen’s sharp gaze, his rose-colored lips curling up in a wicked and unrestrained manner.
Qu Shenyi was satisfied to see Jiang Chen’s face turn as black as the bottom of a pot.
“This project in the east of the city can only be ours today.”
Cui Feixu was very confused: “Is that piece of land in the east of the city really that important? To be worth you and Jiang Chen fighting over it for so long.”
There was an undeveloped wasteland in the east of the city. The location was too remote, and there were no highways nearby, making transportation inconvenient. He really couldn’t figure out what was so important about that piece of land.
Qu Shenyi smiled: “Want to know?”
Cui Feixu nodded.
Qu Shenyi swatted away Cui Feixu’s hand resting on his shoulder, slumping back against the sofa behind him: “I also don’t know what use that piece of land has.”
Cui Feixu was dumbfounded.
“Then what are you fighting with him for?”
To fight for a breath of air?
Qu Shenyi smiled without speaking, shaking his head.
“Come, come, President Jiang, President Qu, let’s continue drinking.”
The middle-aged man sitting in the very center of the dining table raised his wine glass.
Qu Shenyi filled his own wine glass to the brim and shook the glass towards Jiang Chen a few times.
His eyelids drooped, his eye shape long and narrow. Looking at someone like this revealed a single message—arrogant.
The aura around Jiang Chen was so cold it was about to freeze into ice, but in the end, he still raised his hand and lifted his wine glass.
Translator’s Note:
- Green Tea Man: Refers to someone who appears innocent, sweet, and pure on the outside but is actually calculating and manipulative on the inside.
- Roundworm in his stomach (肚子里的蛔虫): A funny Chinese saying that means knowing someone inside and out, almost as if you can read their mind.
