Chapter 7: After Becoming the CEO’s Sickly White Moonlight 7
“Pei Yu? That sickly second child of the Pei family?”
“You know him?” Qu Shenyi noticed the change in Cui Feixu’s expression and spoke up.
“Of course I know him! My family used to live near the Pei family’s old residence, although we’ve only met a few times.”
Speaking of this, Cui Feixu sighed emotionally: “Jiang Chen used to run over to the Pei house whenever he had free time. He treasured Pei Yu like his own eyeballs. We attended the same school back then, and Jiang Chen would fetch Pei Yu’s meals for him. Pei Yu didn’t even have to unscrew his own water bottles.”
When Jiang Chen was in middle school and high school, he wasn’t the ice block face he is now. He was the famous school bully, fighting and brawling all the time, but he was exceptionally considerate down to the finest detail solely to Pei Yu. It wasn’t until Pei Yu’s health condition suddenly deteriorated and he went abroad that Jiang Chen’s temper and disposition drastically changed.
But whether Jiang Chen was forever restless because he couldn’t obtain what he wanted, or if he was holding back some internal pent-up energy, the men he played with over the years weren’t few, and every single one looked similar to Pei Yu.
Cui Feixu frowned in disgust: “By the way, does Pei Yu know about Jiang Chen’s intentions towards him?”
What do you call this? I treat you as a friend, yet you want to sleep with me.
And if that wasn’t enough, because of that twisted and struggling feeling in his heart, he found a bunch of stand-ins to vent on.
If he were Pei Yu, he would probably throw up from disgust.
The features of that person’s face surfaced in Qu Shenyi’s mind, and he smiled: “I reckon he already knows.”
“Huh?”
“Let’s go.”
Clatter—
Pei Yu kicked the wine bottle in front of him, watching the red sports car speed away in the distance.
He flipped his hand and tossed a card to the person behind him, saying: “Good job. Continue following by Pei Liang’s side.”
“Thank you, thank you, Second Young Master Pei!”
The person clutched the card tightly and pursued the question: “Second Young Master Pei, then on Liu Feiyu’s side…”
Hearing this, Pei Yu turned his head. His tall figure blocked out the dim light behind him. Under the night sky, his expression was so cold that it made the person shudder.
The person hurriedly waved his hands and said: “I… I understand, I won’t ask anymore! I will just follow Pei Liang… I won’t ask a single extra word…”
Pei Yu took out a box of cigarettes from his pocket, his slender fingers methodically pulling one out. He pointed at the person’s mouth, and the person immediately nodded and bowed, leaning in to catch the cigarette Pei Yu offered between his lips.
As the bright flame flickered, the person’s face gradually became clear—it was precisely Monkey from earlier.
Pei Yu raised a hand and pressed it onto Monkey’s shoulder, curling his lips into a smile: “Things like cigarettes, smoking one at a time is enough.”
Monkey hurriedly nodded along: “Yes, yes, yes, Second Young Master is right.”
“Also, investigate the feud between Liu Feiyu and Qu Shenyi clearly for me.”
“Ah?”
Monkey was completely baffled for a moment. One reason was that the affairs between Liu Feiyu and Qu Shenyi weren’t exactly a secret in the circle, and the other reason was… why was Pei Yu suddenly caring about this?
But he shouldn’t ask too much about things that weren’t his business. Taking people’s money to handle their affairs—he knew that much.
Monkey nodded, pulled his hat down over his head, and his figure disappeared into the night.
It was already quite late by the time Pei Yu returned to Jiang Chen’s villa. The living room lights were off, and moonlight cast through the French windows into the room. It was obvious there was a person sitting on the sofa.
Pei Yu draped his taken-off trench coat over his forearm, standing in the entryway and locking eyes with Jiang Chen.
Neither of them was in a rush to speak. The living room was dead silent. Finally, Auntie Wang, the cook, walked out from the kitchen carrying a bowl of soup, breaking the silence.
Jiang Chen put down the financial newspaper resting on his lap, rubbed the space between his brows, and said: “I had Auntie Wang make some hot soup, go drink a bowl.”
“No need.”
Pei Yu turned to look at Auntie Wang and said: “Auntie Wang, please go back and rest first.”
Auntie Wang looked at Pei Yu, then at Jiang Chen. Sensing the unusual atmosphere, she nodded.
Jiang Chen’s brows furrowed: “Ah Yu, I was very tired from work today, don’t provoke my displeasure.”
The man’s voice was husky, carrying imperceptible anger.
Upon hearing this, a trace of mockery flashed quickly through Pei Yu’s eyes, and he said calmly: “President Jiang, me working at the company can also provoke your displeasure?”
“Whether you were working at the company or not, you know perfectly well in your heart!”
Jiang Chen’s tone suddenly rose. He then stood up, strode furiously towards Pei Yu, and grabbed him by the arm.
Pei Yu lowered his eyes to look at the trench coat that had fallen to the floor, then carelessly lifted his head to meet Jiang Chen’s gaze.
Jiang Chen’s gaze burned like fire as he aggressively pressed: “What did you follow Pei Liang to the bar to play? Is that a place you should go to? Pei Yu, how old are you? You are not a child anymore! You should…”
“What should I do, President Jiang?” Pei Yu’s gaze slowly shifted to the hand Jiang Chen used to grab him. Because of the force, the veins on that hand were bulging, and the fingertips were almost devoid of blood.
Pei Yu felt a moment of amusement in his heart. Yo, he really looks quite angry, even getting physical with his weak, pitiful, and helpless white moonlight.
Pei Yu: “Since President Jiang is so clear about my itinerary, why interrogate me about what I was playing? President Jiang should already know everything.”
Jiang Chen froze in place, the hand grabbing Pei Yu loosening: “I…”
Pei Yu withdrew his hand, bent down to pick up the trench coat from the floor, and flicked off the dust.
Pei Yu: “President Jiang, we are just friends. I have not inquired about your private life, and similarly, you should not inquire about mine.”
Pei Yu hooked his lips, an elegant smile forming on his face: “President Jiang, this is the first time, and I hope it is the last time.”
This smile was so faint that Jiang Chen mistakenly thought for a moment he had misread Pei Yu’s expression.
These two sentences from Pei Yu made Jiang Chen feel a terrifying sensation as if the dirty thoughts in his heart had been exposed to the sunlight.
Jiang Chen’s lips moved a few times: “Ah Yu… I didn’t mean that… I…”
Pei Yu: “President Jiang, my grandfather’s 80th birthday banquet is in half a month. I will sort out my domestic residence before then, and after that, I won’t trouble President Jiang anymore.”
Pei Yu’s voice exploded with a bang in Jiang Chen’s mind. Jiang Chen could hear the sound of the blood freezing in his entire body.
He knew.
Pei Yu knew everything.
Watching Pei Yu’s figure head upstairs, Jiang Chen clenched his fist tightly and smashed it forcefully against the wall beside him.
The pain transmitting from his knuckles diluted the churning emotions in Jiang Chen’s heart. After a good while, he loosened his tie and dialed a phone number.
“Head over to 13th Street Hotel Room 419 right now. I want to see you in half an hour.”
The person on the other end was clearly dumbfounded by Jiang Chen’s sentence: “President… President Jiang, but taking the subway from my house to there takes an hour…”
“What, do you want me to pick you up?”
“…” No, do you not understand human speech?
“You now have twenty-nine minutes.”
The person on the other end gritted their teeth: “Yes…” Money is hard to earn, shit is hard to eat.
For the next few days, Pei Yu didn’t see Jiang Chen return to the villa. After occasionally taking on a few minor projects at the company, Pei Yu surprisingly received a call from Liu Feiyu.
Leaning against the back of his chair, Pei Yu fiddled with the fox ornament on his desk with his fingers and said: “How did President Liu get my phone number?”
Liu Feiyu heard the guard in Pei Yu’s tone and said: “Ah, this, I asked Pei Liang for it. Sorry to bother you.”
“It’s fine, you’re not bothering me.”
“That’s good.”
Pei Yu poked at the fox’s tail twice and asked: “Brother Liu, is there something you need?”
Liu Feiyu: “It’s nothing major. Old Master Pei’s birthday banquet is approaching. I figured since you have a close relationship with Old Master Pei, I wanted to ask for your advice on choosing a gift.”
“Ah, this…” Pei Yu grabbed the fox by the tail, lifted it up, smiled, his eyes narrowing slightly, and said: “Of course. When does Brother Liu think is a suitable time?”
“Let’s say in three days. There’s a large-scale auction.”
“Alright.”
Hanging up the phone, Pei Yu placed the little fox in the palm of his hand, looked at it for a while, and said: “Quite a coincidence.”
“Achoo!”
Qu Shenyi rubbed his sore nose and mixed himself a cup of cold medicine.
Cui Feixu collapsed onto the sofa beside him, lazily shaking his leg.
He pillowed his hands behind his head, looked up at the ceiling, and said: “Yo, caught a cold?”
“Handling the takeover work for Liu Feiyu’s enterprise recently, there are too many trivial details.”
Qu Shenyi pinched his nose, gulped down the cold medicine in one breath, and stuck his tongue out from the bitterness.
So bitter.
Why couldn’t cold medicine be made sweet?
Qu Shenyi tore open a milk candy and stuffed it into his mouth. The sweet, milky flavor spread in his mouth, and only then did his tightly knit brows relax.
Cui Feixu: “Be content. Snatching such a big cake without wasting a single soldier or a single weapon, it’s only right for an old general like you to be a little tired.”
“Stop joking around. I asked you to keep an eye on that piece of land Jiang Chen bought, did you make any other discoveries?”
Speaking of this, Cui Feixu immediately rolled over, staring at Qu Shenyi and said: “Of course! Let me tell you, you definitely suffered a huge loss this time.”
“En?”
“That piece of land—after Jiang Chen got it, he put it up for bidding to construction companies. Now it seems like they’re building some kind of tourist attraction, and quite a few enterprises have gone to invest in it.”
Cui Feixu smacked his lips and said: “That piece of land has practically been utilized completely by Jiang Chen. Tell me, how come I didn’t think it could be used like this?”
He only thought about the remote location and inconvenient transportation, making any commercial activities inconvenient. He didn’t expect the land could be used this way.
Cui Feixu: “Guess what Jiang Chen is busy with right now?”
Qu Shenyi: “Going public.”
Cui Feixu let out an “Aiya”: “How did you know again?”
Qu Shenyi rolled his eyes: “Nonsense, which company doesn’t want to go public?”
“…Then are you just planning to watch helplessly as Jiang Chen makes money right now?”
Qu Shenyi’s dark red lips turned up, his smile radiant: “Money, you have to make it slowly. You can’t become fat with just one bite.”
Cui Feixu hated it the most when Qu Shenyi smiled like this, always feeling that this bastard didn’t have an ounce of good intentions brewing in his stomach.
Seeing Qu Shenyi smiling so flamboyantly, Cui Feixu silently burned high incense for Jiang Chen in his heart.
—
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Liu Feiyu leaned against the car door, occasionally checking his reflection in the rearview mirror to tidy his appearance. After confirming there were absolutely no issues, he checked the time on his watch and stood perfectly straight on the spot, waiting.
When Pei Yu walked over, he saw Liu Feiyu wearing a custom-made gray suit, buttoned all the way up to the top, creating a cold, ascetic, and unattainable aura.
Watching Pei Yu walk over, Liu Feiyu couldn’t hide the absolute stunning amazement in his eyes.
The tailored black suit perfectly matched the man’s broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted figure, his long legs straight and slender in the suit trousers. A silver brooch set with a sapphire rested on his chest, every detail impeccably elegant and proper.
The contours of that face were smooth. When not smiling, the curve of his lips appeared somewhat thin and indifferent. The angles of his brows and eyes were so exquisite they practically manifested the Creator’s blatant favoritism towards him.
His styled hair was combed back, revealing a smooth, clean forehead. Without hair covering it, this face looked even more flawless and perfect under the light.
Liu Feiyu’s eyes darkened: “I didn’t expect Little Yu’s figure to be this good.”
In the private room that day, the conditions weren’t suitable for a careful look. Only today, sculpted by the suit, did Pei Yu’s absolute premium quality become apparent.
He found it hard to imagine just how moving it would be for such a person, wearing a suit, to lie on a bed with his clothes in disarray, looking at him with hazy, unfocused eyes.
Thinking of this, Liu Feiyu’s Adam’s apple bobbed a few times, and he let out a light cough.
“I work out regularly, going for a morning run every day. Mostly because my health is poor… I need to pay extra attention.”
The expression on Pei Yu’s face darkened slightly. Seeing this, Liu Feiyu patted Pei Yu’s shoulder.
“It’s fine, the way Little Yu is right now is very good.”
“Thank you, Brother Liu.”
Pei Yu scratched his head and answered with a smile.
The youth had an aloof, exquisitely beautiful face, but his smile was sunny and cheerful.
Without batting an eyelid, Liu Feiyu licked the roof of his mouth, an unbearable itch rising in his heart.
It had been a long time since he spent this much effort on a single person.
Watching Liu Feiyu walk around to the other side to get in the car, Pei Yu raised a hand and flicked the shoulder Liu Feiyu had pinched.
“Get in the car, Little Yu.”
“Oh, okay, Brother Liu.”
Seeing that Pei Yu didn’t sit in the passenger seat, a hint of disappointment flashed through Liu Feiyu’s eyes.
He started the car, glancing in the rearview mirror at Pei Yu, who was resting with his eyes closed.
The auction venue was selected to be the Lonia Hotel, which was exactly a property under Jiang Chen. Bills worth millions were auctioned off from here by the minute.
This auction recorded in the original text was clearly a much larger event.
It was precisely in this auction that Qu Shenyi completed the first step of his darkening process later on.
The original text didn’t specifically write about what Qu Shenyi experienced during this auction. It only mentioned that upon his reappearance later, this person already showed signs of being a crazy psychopath.
Pei Yu touched his lips and sighed.
He originally wanted to see how the little flirt transformed into a little psycho, but he didn’t expect to be going straight to the scene to observe it in person.
System: […Have you forgotten what your mission is?]
Turns out you never planned to stop him from darkening, huh.
Pei Yu: “I remember.”
The system went crazy: [Then you still don’t plan on stopping him from darkening?]
Pei Yu was bewildered: “Why do I need to stop him from darkening? My mission is to save him. As long as I guarantee he doesn’t die, isn’t that enough?”
System: […]
So this is how you understand the word “save”? You’re really something.
Pei Yu innocently spread his hands.
He leaned back against the car seat, propping his chin with a finger. The image of Qu Shenyi’s face suddenly surfaced before his eyes.
That face with gorgeous features and a radiant smile… even if he went crazy, it should… probably still be quite exciting, right?
