Chapter 130: Abbot Wujue’s Greed
“Then you truly are pathetic.”
Yin Feng said this, yet internally he wanted to laugh.
He was rejoicing in Lou Yunxiao’s sheer stupidity.
If he didn’t care about him, why would he repeatedly go out of his way to protect his life?
But judging by the Lord’s actions, he likely had absolutely no intention of letting Lou Yunxiao know his true identity.
Coincidentally, he had no intention of saying anything either.
This arrangement was simply for the best.
Yin Feng had asked everything he needed to know. He turned to leave, but was stopped by Lou Yunxiao.
“Protector Yin Feng, you were present the day the Liuyun Sect was massacred. Could you tell me what exactly happened that day?”
The reason Lou Yunxiao asked this question was because, inexplicably, he hoped from the bottom of his heart that the Yao Zun had not allied with the demons to annihilate the Liuyun Sect.
Therefore, he wanted to glean some information from Yin Feng.
The latter looked at him and replied, “When we arrived back then, the Liuyun Sect was already engulfed in flames. We only saw the Yao Zun injure you; we never actually witnessed what occurred within your sect.”
Speaking of this, as if suddenly recalling something, he asked Lou Yunxiao.
“Young friend Lou, do you also believe that the Yao Zun joined forces with the demons?”
“After all, if this assumption stands, then both the mystery of the Liuyun Sect and the mystery of Jiuhe Village make perfect sense.”
He stepped closer to Lou Yunxiao, his gaze seemingly piercing right through him.
He asked, “So, what are your thoughts?”
“Do you believe our Yao Zun, or do you believe your Abbot Wujue?”
Lou Yunxiao did not answer.
Because he couldn’t give an absolutely definitive reply.
After all, before entering the Demon Realm, he had always viewed Ning Ke as his sworn enemy.
Even though later—due to Sect Master Gao’s words, the demon-sealing steles inside the Liuyun Sect, and the Great Demon masquerading as Lou Jing—he realized that Ning Ke might have had hidden motives for destroying the Liuyun Sect.
But if he were asked to place total, unwavering trust in Ning Ke like Yin Feng and Yue Ya did, he couldn’t do it.
Seeing him remain silent for a long time, Yin Feng finally chuckled.
To manage the Yao Realm’s affairs for Ning Ke, he had put on a facade of steady composure for five thousand years, rarely losing his temper.
Yet now, he laughed out loud.
“Fine,” he said. “Lou Yunxiao, you’re doing just fine.”
With that, he took to the skies and departed.
Once outside the mountain gates, Yue Ya was crouching in an ancient tree waiting for him.
Seeing him arrive, she hurriedly jumped down and asked Yin Feng, “Yin Feng, where did you run off to all by yourself?”
“I just went to ask someone about a few things.” Yin Feng had already regained his composure and said to Yue Ya, “Let’s go. We must find the Lord before the humans do.”
…
Because Gao Ze was missing, the affairs of the Sword Sect were temporarily managed by a Mahayana stage elder.
The elder discussed the demon eradication strategy with the three Sect Masters, and they decided to issue an order for all commoners to relocate to the areas closest to the four major sects to build new cities.
This would make it easier for cultivators to protect the citizens.
As for the deployment of disciples, they stuck to the previous demon eradication squad configuration. They mixed disciples from the four major sects into teams, used communication spirit stones to keep in touch, and equipped them with demon-revealing stones to prevent infighting and ensure they could support each other at any moment.
With the meeting concluded, the Sect Masters took their leave.
On his journey back to the Buddhist Sect, Abbot Wujue mulled it over repeatedly and still felt his theory was extremely sound.
He remarked to the Buddhist elder accompanying him, “Those foolish Yao clan members are still following Ning Ke’s lead. Mark my words, sooner or later they’ll all be slaughtered by Ning Ke and melted down to forge his Godhood!”
Speaking of this, Abbot Wujue suddenly thought of something.
His brows furrowed, and a glint of calculation flashed through his eyes.
He pondered that if Ning Ke truly joined forces with the demons and was granted a Godhood by the God, then it would be them—the innocent people—who suffered the consequences.
Conversely, Ning Ke would become the ultimate victor, ascending to Godhood, obtaining eternal youth, and becoming indestructible and immortal.
“Godhood…” The calculating glint in his eyes slowly mutated into sheer greed.
Abbot Wujue muttered to himself, “If I were to ally with that God, the one to obtain the Godhood and ascend to Godhood would be me…”
“Exactly. If you ally with us, the Godhood will be yours.”
Fresh blood splattered onto Abbot Wujue’s face. He stared blankly as the head of the Buddhist elder walking beside him was severed. The elder’s divine sense shrieked as it tried to flee, only to be seized by a pitch-black demonic claw. The owner of the claw tossed it into his mouth, and the sickening crunch of grinding teeth echoed in his ears.
Looking closer, Nan Lou’s other claw had already pierced into the elder’s headless corpse, rapidly draining it dry at a visible speed…
“You’re a Great Demon?!”
Abbot Wujue instinctively swung his staff at Nan Lou, but unexpectedly, Nan Lou activated his Domain, effortlessly dodging the strike and appearing right behind him.
“Old bald donkey, don’t be in such a rush to make a move.”
Holding the spatial Domain advantage, Nan Lou dodged Abbot Wujue’s attacks while saying, “I can see how much you desire the Godhood.”
“I am merely carrying out orders for the God. If you join forces with me, I wouldn’t mind having the Lord grant you a Godhood as well.”
“Don’t you want to ascend to Godhood, become eternally youthful, immortal, and indestructible?”
Abbot Wujue’s heart had actually already wavered, but he still said, “Even so, I cannot trade the lives of so many people for it!”
“Old bald donkey, thinking like that makes you incredibly foolish,” Nan Lou said. “This is merely a lower realm. Compared to the Three Thousand Major Worlds and the Divine Realm, it’s nothing but an insignificant speck of dust. If you can ascend to the Divine Realm, what happens to this insignificant place, and what does it have to do with you?”
“…”
Abbot Wujue finally stopped attacking.
Because he realized the demon was right.
By remaining in this minor realm, if he couldn’t ascend to Godhood, he would eventually just wither and die of old age.
But if he traded the lives of people irrelevant to him for a Godhood, he would gain the key to eternal life…
Faced with such an overwhelming temptation, who could remain unmoved?
With this thought in mind, he looked at Nan Lou and declared, “I want to meet the God face-to-face. I need him to personally promise to grant me the Godhood in the future.”
Seeing this, a maliciously wicked smirk curled the corners of Nan Lou’s lips.
He knew it.
The fish had taken the bait.
