Chapter 17: Mocked to One’s Face
The server led him to an empty table. “Is this spot alright?”
“Mm.” After Jiang Xu sat down, the other was about to hand him the menu again, but he stopped him. “Just bring me a steak and a salad.”
“Understood. Please wait a moment.”
The server noted the order and left.
Jiang Xu could even feel the other Zerg let out a long sigh of relief once his back was turned.
He couldn’t help but think of how Fei looked at him and frowned slightly. Am I really that terrifying? I haven’t even done anything.
“Hey, brother.”
Jiang Xu’s thoughts were interrupted by a voice from the neighboring table. He looked over, though the speaker was partially hidden behind a partition curtain.
“Is something the matter?”
“Cough. All Xiongchong under heaven are one family, right? I eat here often, but I’ve never seen you. Did you just move here?” The neighboring Xiongchong was quite the chatterbox, firing several questions at Jiang Xu.
“Mm.”
“I knew it! With looks like yours, brother, I would definitely remember if I’d seen you before.”
Jiang Xu thought the man was exaggerating. The other seemed to sense his thoughts.
“Really! There are plenty of good-looking Cichong on this street, but I’ve never seen a Xiongchong who looks like you.”
Being able to sit on the second floor, the other bug didn’t doubt Jiang Xu’s identity for a second.
“Is that so?” Jiang Xu asked.
“Of course. I have a photographic memory.” With that, he crawled out from behind the curtain and sat in the chair across from Jiang Xu, not acting like a stranger at all. “Wanna be friends?”
Only then did Jiang Xu see the other’s appearance. He was short and stout with regular features, and a pair of large, pitch-black eyes stared at him from a round face.
He looked festive.
That was Jiang Xu’s first impression. He looked like a Maitreya Buddha.
“I won’t lie to you,” the guy said, not caring if Jiang Xu ignored him or not. He proceeded to introduce the family backgrounds of the other few Xiongchong on the second floor with complete thoroughness.
After finishing, he asked Jiang Xu boastfully, “Well? What did I tell you? Photographic memory.”
Jiang Xu didn’t believe the guy had approached him just to be friends. “Speak up. What is it really?”
“Tsk, look at you. I really just wanted to be friends.” Fearing Jiang Xu wouldn’t believe him, he introduced himself, “My surname is Yu, name is Yu Heng. I just think you look good and wanted to make a friend.”
As it turned out, Yu Heng had a minor quirk: regardless of whether someone was Ci or Xiong, as long as they were good-looking, he liked being friends with them.
“……..” Jiang Xu was speechless. What kind of hobby is that?
Besides, he didn’t think he was particularly good-looking.
Speaking of good-looking, he involuntarily thought of Fei.
Realizing he was drifting, he immediately pulled his thoughts back.
Just then, the server placed his food on the table. “Please enjoy. If you need anything else, there is a button to your left. If you press it, a server will come up.”
With that, the server gave Yu Heng a strange look and left.
“Ooh, you like eating beef too? Me too!” Yu Heng said in surprise as he saw the food on Jiang Xu’s table.
Worried the other wouldn’t believe him, he even brought his own food over from his table.
He made a move to point it out to Jiang Xu.
“I see.” Jiang Xu felt a wave of exhaustion.
After getting a response, Yu Heng simply stopped going back to his own seat. One bug kept talking incessantly while the other listened in silence.
Dinner passed just like that.
After finishing his meal and wiping his mouth, Jiang Xu pressed the call button.
A Zerg soon came up.
“Hello, do you need anything?”
This time it was a different, unfamiliar Cichong server. Jiang Xu was slightly surprised.
The new server noticed his confusion and immediately explained, “The previous server had some family matters and left early. You can call me if you need anything.”
Jiang Xu gave a soft ‘mm’ and raised his communicator. “Check, please.”
“Understood.” The server took an exquisite sensor from a pouch at his side. A small display screen showed the dishes Jiang Xu had ordered and the total price. “Please take a look. If there are no issues, I’ll…”
Jiang Xu swept a glance over it. “Mm, no issues.”
The sensor lightly tapped the communicator on Jiang Xu’s wrist, and an automated voice prompt confirmed the payment was successful.
“Your communicator will receive the bill shortly. If there are any problems, you can find our front desk at the shop.”
The server put away the sensor and gave Jiang Xu a standard bow. “Thank you, please come again.”
Jiang Xu propped himself up by the armrests and stood up. Seeing this, Yu Heng said anxiously, “Wait, brother! Wait for me for a bit, I’m almost done.”
“……..” Jiang Xu looked at him, wondering how someone could be so bold.
Or rather, the thickness of his skin was truly impressive.
Yu Heng really only made Jiang Xu wait for a minute. He ate like a whirlwind, and his bowl was soon empty.
He stood up, tore off a piece of tissue, and casually wiped his mouth. After tossing the tissue into the bin, he said, “Let’s go.”
In the span of a single meal, Jiang Xu had gained a tag-along.
“I’m telling you, brother, I know this whole area. Whether it’s Xiong or Ci, as long as you ask me, I can tell you their family backgrounds clearly.”
Jiang Xu had thought the guy was exaggerating.
Testing him, Jiang Xu pointed toward his own house.
Yu Heng immediately stopped him. “Hey, brother, don’t point!”
He pushed Jiang Xu’s hand down and lowered his voice. “That’s the house of Major General Fei from the First Military District. Not long ago…”
He did some mental math and continued, “Exactly one month ago, he got married to a Xiongchong. I heard that if Major General Fei had gone to the battlefield this time, he could have gathered enough military merit to be promoted to Lieutenant General. Then he could have chosen for himself whether or not to marry a Xiongchong. Sigh, truly a fall at the final hurdle. He usually hates Xiongchong the most—or rather, he basically has a severe aversion to males.”
Yu Heng thought of something, covered his mouth, and whispered to Jiang Xu, “That Xiongchong he married… you must have heard of him.”
Jiang Xu couldn’t describe his current feelings; it was just extremely bizarre.
The other bug assumed Jiang Xu was silent because he didn’t know about Fei’s situation, so he added mysteriously, “It’s that Jiang Xu. The Xiongchong from the Jiang family.”
“What about him?” Jiang Xu asked.
“Eh?” Yu Heng looked at Jiang Xu strangely. “You actually don’t know?! It’s that very mysterious Jiang family. The extremely wealthy one.”
After he finished, Jiang Xu still looked at him with an expression seeking more knowledge.
“Sigh, it’s that psycho who kills without blinking and likes to collect Cichong wings as trophies. Rumor has it his house has a whole wall full of Cichong wings, all sorts of varieties.”
Yu Heng tsked twice and sighed. “This Major General Fei must have committed some terrible sin in his past life to marry a Xiongchong like that.”
Being insulted to his face, Jiang Xu didn’t even dare to talk back.
Because he didn’t know anything about what the guy was saying.
As for whether the Jiang family really had a wall of wings, he suddenly asked Yu Heng, “You say it like it’s the truth. Have you seen it?”
