Chapter 27: Labor Contract
Jiang Xu was also a bit surprised to see him; the newcomer was exactly the Cichong he had run into while buying breakfast earlier.
“Mm, what a coincidence,” he nodded.
“Yes, what a coincidence.” The Cichong shyly scratched his head and said respectfully, “Hello, Lord. My name is Xier.”
“Mm, hello,” Jiang Xu replied. He glanced at the smart robo-bug by his feet and secretly breathed a sigh of relief—he wouldn’t have to clean the place himself.
He glanced at the thin layer of dust covering the floor. “The office will be renovated later. You don’t mind, do you?”
“I don’t mind!” Xier quickly shook his head.
He urgently needed a job, and the salary for this position was generous, so naturally, he had no objections.
“Mm.” Jiang Xu tossed the metal ball back into the box and pushed it to the side of the cabinet with his foot, unwilling to touch it with his hands again.
“I generally understand your situation. Is there anything you want to know about the company?” He had already learned everything he needed to know online.
The main reason he arranged to meet this bug today was simply that he didn’t want to be seen as a scammer.
“No, I am very satisfied with the salary and benefits you offered.” Xier’s reason for coming today was also to see the place in person and ensure he wasn’t being fooled by some bug on the internet.
However, he absolutely never expected the employer to actually be a Xiongchong.
“That’s good,” Jiang Xu said. “The office was just rented. The paperwork and renovations haven’t been done yet; you’ll be in charge of handling all of that. I won’t be here most of the time. Is that a problem?”
Xier fell silent.
“…” It really was a brand new company.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing his strange expression, Jiang Xu raised an eyebrow and asked.
“N-no problem!” Xier nodded rapidly, terrified of losing the job.
After speaking, he hesitated for a moment before asking, “You are a Xiongchong coming out to work. Isn’t your family worried about violating the Xiongchong Protection Law?”
Jiang Xu frowned. “Are there laws prohibiting Xiongchong from working?”
“No.”
“Do you need a job?”
“I do.” Xier paused, not understanding the intent behind Jiang Xu’s question.
“A Xiongchong boss—can you accept that?”
“…I accept.” Xier swallowed his objections. As long as his salary was paid on time and the job was stable, he had absolutely no complaints about who the boss was.
It was just that Xiongchong were playful by nature; the business might not last long.
“Work hard.” Jiang Xu patted his shoulder. “In the future, not only will you have a Xiongchong boss, but perhaps also Xiongchong colleagues. Just focus on doing your job.”
Xier’s expression turned serious, and he immediately replied, “Understood, boss!”
Jiang Xu gave a soft chuckle; the guy was quite perceptive.
“Since you’ve decided to join, let’s sign the labor contract today.” He tapped his communicator to pull up the drafted contract. “I’ve sent it to you. Read it carefully. If there are no issues, sign and send it back.”
“A labor contract?” Xier opened it, his heart full of confusion.
Seeing that it clearly outlined the work details, monthly salary, as well as clauses for double pay for overtime and triple pay for rest days and holidays, he was instantly shocked!
In the Zerg race, it was customary for monthly salaries to be fixed. This was equivalent to an extra bonus, and his previous misgivings dissipated in an instant.
The two bugs quickly finished signing the agreement.
Jiang Xu signed and sent back a copy. “This agreement has my signature. If I breach the contract, you can sue me. Once the company is registered, we’ll re-sign it under the company’s name.”
It was a way to put the other’s mind at ease.
Xier, however, was only staring at the benefits, hoping they would be fulfilled. As for the risk of suing a Xiongchong, he couldn’t care less about that right now.
“Gege…” Having finished eating the milk fruit, the little Cichong was holding it in uncomfortably. He squeezed his legs together and cried out urgently, “Gege, pee-pee.”
“?” Jiang Xu had almost forgotten about him. He looked down and asked, “What?”
“Gege, Baobao needs to pee-pee.” The little Cichong stomped his feet anxiously.
Jiang Xu realized what he meant, immediately picked him up, and headed toward the restroom. At the door, he hesitated. “Can you do it yourself?”
Xier immediately volunteered, “Boss, let me take him!”
Jiang Xu felt a bit surprised; the online Xier wasn’t nearly this proactive. He stepped aside to make way. “I’ll trouble you, then.”
Just as Jiang Xu returned to the lobby, he saw a Cichong secretly peering in at the door.
“Who are you looking for?” He found the bug familiar. “Are you the kid’s Cifu?”
The Cichong recognized Jiang Xu at a glance and bowed respectfully. “Hello, Lord. I’m looking for Xi, my little Cichong. Did he come looking for you?”
“Come in. He’s in the restroom.” Jiang Xu gestured sideways.
“Thank you, Lord.” Qingyu walked in cautiously and stood at a distance. “About what happened last time, thank you very much.”
“I wasn’t helping you,” Jiang Xu said bluntly. “I just found his crying too noisy and wanted him to shut up.”
Qingyu wasn’t surprised; after all, they were complete strangers. “Regardless, thank you for taking care of Xi.”
At that moment, the little Cichong came out of the restroom. Spotting Qingyu at a glance, he waved his little hands and ran over. “Cifu!”
Qingyu bent down to pick him up, carrying a hint of reprimand in his tone. “Why did you run out on your own again? I told you it’s dangerous outside.”
“But Gege is here. It’s very safe.” Xi looked at Jiang Xu with a goofy smile.
Qingyu felt helpless. He knew Xi liked this Xiongchong, but he didn’t approve of it.
He bowed once more. “Lord, we won’t disturb you any longer.”
Jiang Xu nodded, clearly sensing the wariness in the other’s eyes.
“Goodbye, Gege!” Xi waved happily, completely carefree.
“Goodbye.”
Only then did Xier suddenly realize that the little Cichong wasn’t the boss’s child; no wonder his clothes were rough and dirty.
Jiang Xu mused to himself that today’s matters seemed to have come to an end; he could head back now.
Just as he was about to give Xier a few instructions, he saw the guy examining him with a strange look, so he asked, “Is there something?”
Caught red-handed, Xier stammered, “N-no, boss.”
Jiang Xu felt a headache coming on. Were Xiongchong really synonymous with bullies in the Zerg race?
This identity attracted too much hate. He said seriously, “I’ll transfer some funds to you later. Find some bugs to renovate the office as soon as possible. The timeframe is one month.”
“Understood, boss!” Xier immediately gathered his thoughts and replied.
“I’ll send you the company name later. Handle that together with the rest.”
“Understood.”
Jiang Xu handed over the door keys, gave a few words of instruction, and set off for home.
Reaching the outskirts of the commercial center, he walked toward the station. He couldn’t always rely on other bugs to pick him up and drop him off.
He couldn’t have other bugs drive him back every time. He walked up to the station’s information board; he remembered the name of the station right outside his house.
He searched the board. What the hell? It wasn’t there.
He stared at the information board in astonishment. This? How was he supposed to get back?
“Gege! Gege!” A familiar voice came from behind.
Jiang Xu was startled. Had the little Cichong run out again? Before he could even turn around, Xi had already hugged his leg.
He looked down, and sure enough, it was the little guy. “Did you run out on your own again?”
“No, no!” Xi shook his head desperately, pointing outside the station platform. “Cifu is right behind!”
Jiang Xu looked over to see Qingyu panting heavily, resting his hands on his knees, staring helplessly at the little Cichong.
Jiang Xu was dumbfounded; this scene was truly hard to explain.
“Your Cifu came looking for you again?”
“No, we’re going home.” Xi tilted his head back and asked, “Is Gege going home too?”
“Mm.” Jiang Xu nodded. It was quite a coincidence.
Qingyu approached. Just as Jiang Xu was about to greet him, he heard him scold, “Xi!”
The little Cichong stiffened and quietly hid behind Jiang Xu.
