Chapter 4: He Can’t!
“?” Jiang Xu saw Fei looking at him with a conflicted expression and felt somewhat puzzled. “What is it?”
Fei didn’t know if the other party was truly unaware or just feigning ignorance, but he said in a low voice, “Xiongzhu, the Jiang family did not send your clothes over.”
Since the two bugs had married, Fei had not only met Jiang Xu for the first time yesterday, but he had yet to see any of the Jiang family elders either. To this day, he hadn’t met a single one of them.
His marriage was utterly laughable; his name had been struck from the military district and he had been thrown back into his own residence. Not only had the name on the house deed been changed, but all of his property had been transferred from his own account to the other party’s name. He had only known what this bug looked like through a single photograph provided by the Xiongchong Protection Association.
How pathetic! This was the life of a Cichong.
Jiang Xu had no idea what he had said to trigger the other party’s sore spot again. Why was it a sore spot? Because he felt that faint trace of killing intent emanating from the man once more.
Ugh!
It wasn’t that serious, was it? He just wanted a set of clothes; how did it escalate to this level? He opened his mouth and hesitated for a moment before saying, “Bring me a set of your clothes.”
He couldn’t exactly wear the set from last night; besides, those clothes had picked up a strange scent from somewhere.
“Yes.” Fei hadn’t expected such an answer.
This bug was actually willing to wear his clothes. Hadn’t the rumors said he hated Junci the most? Fei stood up completely naked, dressing himself in front of the bed with complete lack of inhibition, failing to notice the bug on the bed turning his head away.
Fei returned to the guest bedroom and stood before his wardrobe, thinking for a moment. He took out a set of clothes he had rarely worn and then looked at a box of new underwear nearby. Recalling something, his face instantly flushed hot again.
Jiang Xu was a bit different from ordinary Xiongchong. If he covered his neck and walked outside, bugs who didn’t know him might actually mistake him for a Cichong. Their height difference wasn’t that great, but the proportions seemed to be…
“Don’t overthink it, he’s a Xiongchong.” Fei patted his burning face and muttered under his breath. No matter how good a Xiongchong was, how good could he truly be? He shouldn’t lose himself just because of a sliver of tenderness.
He suddenly thought of Admiral Lan, and the heat on his face dropped to freezing as if hit by a cold front. That’s right; the tragedies of the Cichong around him were still vivid in his mind. What was he hoping for? A Xiongchong? Ha!
Jiang Xu watched as the man—no, the Cichong—returned to the bedroom with an even colder aura, and he frowned slightly. What was it now? He looked no different from a human man, yet his temper was as unpredictable as those young ladies he had gone on blind dates with before…
Next, he saw the other party kneel before the bed and place the clothes neatly on the edge of the mattress.
“…” He loved kneeling that much? Or was this a Zerg tradition? Jiang Xu couldn’t quite figure out the situation. He glanced at the bug kneeling with his head bowed and reached for the clothes on the bed.
Hmm? Why couldn’t he move them? He then saw the hand holding the other end of the clothes and looked at the man silently.
As if sensing his gaze, the other party looked up slightly. “Please let me…”
“No need.” Jiang Xu coldly interrupted him. He didn’t need to think to know what the other meant. “Take your hand away.”
He had hands!
“…” The decisive refusal startled Fei. “Yes.”
Once Jiang Xu was dressed, Fei leaned down and placed a pair of house slippers by the bed. After a few seconds, a pair of fair feet stepped down from the bed and slid into them.
“Xiongzhu, please wash up first. I will go and prepare breakfast for you right away.” Still kneeling, Fei reached out to help straighten the hem of Jiang Xu’s trousers as he spoke.
“Mm.” Jiang Xu nodded and glanced at Fei. It was better for the man to leave than to keep kneeling in front of him. He couldn’t quite stand this scene; he had been raised with the education that all people were equal. This constant kneeling was something he really couldn’t adapt to yet.
Not long after he entered the bathroom and closed the door, he heard the sound of the bedroom door closing outside. Presumably, the other party had gone to cook.
After washing up, he looked at the bug in the mirror: From now on, I’ll be the one living your life. As for those troubles, I’ll clear them out. No need to thank me.
He raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on his lips. As for what would happen if the original owner ever returned, he didn’t care. For now—he would live life his way!
Following his memory, Jiang Xu arrived at the first-floor dining room. Seeing a newspaper placed at the head of the table, he sat down without hesitation.
A newspaper? That was quite a rarity, rather retro.
He unfolded the paper and looked at the text—square characters similar to Hanzi. But could someone tell him what the hell was written there? He couldn’t understand a thing! When the original owner’s friend had called him earlier, he had thought the characters were just some kind of decoration.
As it turned out, this was the written language of the Zerg! Why didn’t he inherit any of the original owner’s memories? How was he supposed to unlock this skill? Speech had transitioned without a hitch, so why not the writing?
When Fei brought the food up, he saw the Xiongchong appeared to be troubled. He glanced at the newspaper in the man’s hand and understood immediately. He placed the food on the table before the Xiongchong and knelt by his feet. “Xiongzhu, please punish me.”
Jiang Xu was already feeling a bit gloom; the other’s behavior made him even gloomier. He asked unhurriedly, “Punish you?”
“Yes. I shouldn’t have placed my newspaper in front of your seat.” He was used to living alone, and when he came downstairs earlier, he had simply picked up the paper from the door and set it down. Out of habit, he had placed it in front of the chair where he usually sat.
But starting from today, that seat no longer belonged to him.
“Please punish me,” Fei repeated.
“…” It wasn’t that big of a deal. Jiang Xu figured it out and adapted quickly. He set the newspaper aside. “Eat.”
Only after he spoke did he realize there was only one serving of food on the table.
“?” One serving of food, two bugs. He looked at the kneeling bug in confusion. “Only one?”
“Yes, this is the breakfast specially prepared for you.” Fei remembered that the Cishi Regulations clearly stipulated the breakfast requirements for a Xiongchong.
Jiang Xu tilted his head slightly toward Fei. “What about you?”
“After you have finished your meal, please allow me to consume a nutrient solution.”
“Nutrient solution?” What was that? Jiang Xu was puzzled again. “Go and get one.”
Fei was silent for a moment. He stood up and walked to the storage cabinet outside the kitchen, took one out, and held it in his hand, observing Jiang Xu’s back. Why would he be interested in this?
He hesitantly placed the nutrient solution before Jiang Xu and started to bend his knees to kneel. However, his knees didn’t hit the floor as expected. He looked at the bug who was using a leg to support his knees, his face full of shock.
But the words that followed deepened his shock even further.
“From now on, you don’t need to kneel at home.” Jiang Xu picked up the nutrient solution and examined it curiously, his words sounding as if they were the most normal thing in the world.
Fei’s bent knees remained supported by the other’s leg. He frowned and looked at Jiang Xu, wondering if he was hallucinating. Had the man really said that?
So now, should he kneel or not?
Before he could struggle with it further, Jiang Xu glanced at the conflicted bug and ordered, “Stand straight.”
The other was a full-grown bug, and the weight of his entire body was being supported by one of Jiang Xu’s legs.
He couldn’t quite handle it…
At that moment, Jiang Xu realized: although he looked exactly like this bug, this body… seemed like it couldn’t do it!
