Chapter 14: The Incompetent and Malicious Ex-Boyfriend (14)
Once he finished hugging Zhou Geng, Jiang Ningyuan winked at Ming Yanzhou. “Zhou-zai, aren’t you going to give your brother a hug?”
“No.”
Jiang Ningyuan curled his lip. He knew all too well about Ming Yanzhou’s fastidious personality; it was normal for him to refuse. If the guy actually tried to hug him, he might even be a little scared.
Zhou Geng handed Jiang Ningyuan a glass of wine. “Come on, come on, have a drink first. How long has it been since we all got together?”
The three of them clinked glasses and drained their drinks in one go. Afterward, Zhou Geng looked at Jiang Ningyuan.
“You mentioned earlier you got rear-ended? What happened?”
“Brothers, let me tell you, I’ve met my true love.”
Zhou Geng: “?”
Ming Yanzhou: “??”
“You met your ‘true love’ again?” Zhou Geng lifted his eyelids and shot Jiang Ningyuan a look.
Jiang Ningyuan: “…”
“This time is different! This is real love, the kind that makes your… heart skip a beat.”
He looked at Zhou Geng, completely lost in his own infatuation. “Do you know? He fits my aesthetic perfectly. The first time I saw him, my heart literally missed a beat… Even though it was our first meeting, I recognized him instantly as the wife I’d never met before.”
Zhou Geng couldn’t help but shudder. That’s so damn cheesy…
“So, what does that have to do with you getting rear-ended?”
“He’s the one who hit me. Bang! Just like that,” Jiang Ningyuan said with a goofy grin. “He didn’t just hit my car; he hit my heart.”
“I think he hit your brain.” Ming Yanzhou placed his wine glass on the table in front of him, glanced at Jiang Ningyuan, and spoke indifferently.
“The impact must have broken your head. Stop drinking and let me take you to the hospital to get your brain checked.”
Jiang Ningyuan: “…”
“I’m being serious with you guys, okay?”
Ming Yanzhou gave an “Oh.” “I’m not joking with you either.”
Beside them, Zhou Geng couldn’t hold back a laugh.
Jiang Ningyuan stared at him with a resentful expression.
Zhou Geng cleared his throat. “Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Please, continue your performance.”
“You also think I’m joking?”
“No, no. I just think it’s got great entertainment value.”
Jiang Ningyuan: “…”
“I really like him. Once I’ve pursued him and won him over, I’ll bring him to meet you guys. He’s seriously gorgeous.”
“Sure, sure. I’ll cheer for you then.” Zhou Geng picked up his glass and spoke lazily.
“Drinking with just the three of us is so boring. Should we call a few girls over?”
“I’m not calling anyone. I’m going to stay pure and chaste for my future boyfriend.”
“Pfft—” Zhou Geng spat out a mouthful of wine.
He looked at Jiang Ningyuan in shock. “Boy… boyfriend? You like men?”
Ming Yanzhou also looked at Jiang Ningyuan in surprise.
Jiang Ningyuan looked completely righteous. “Yeah, he’s a man. So what? It’s not like two men can’t be together.”
The private room fell silent for a moment.
[It’s totally fine (ˊωˋ*)]
“The air abroad really does change people…” Ming Yanzhou’s voice was calm, and his expression was equally composed.
Zhou Geng snapped out of it, still finding it hard to believe. His good brother, who used to spend all night talking about beautiful women and cars, had suddenly turned gay? It was hard not to be shocked.
“Good brother, what have you gone through this past year? Didn’t you say before that men shouldn’t even be talked to by dogs?”
Zhou Geng hadn’t forgotten how disgusted Jiang Ningyuan looked when Lin-zai started dating a guy.
Jiang Ningyuan took a cigarette from the table and lit it. After taking a drag, he spoke measuredly. “I admit I was acting too much back then. If dogs won’t talk to them, I will. The one I want to date is a man.”
Zhou Geng silently shifted a bit further away.
Jiang Ningyuan glanced at him. “My eyes are fine; I’m not interested in you. Relax.”
Zhou Geng: “…”
“Bro, I don’t like hearing that. I’ve got the looks and the body with an eight-pack. Why wouldn’t you be interested in me?”
Ming Yanzhou spoke indifferently from the side. “Do you actually want him to be interested in you?”
Zhou Geng: “…”
Right. Should he cover his front or his back?
Zhou Geng was silent for a moment, then spoke up again. “Brother, are you the one on top… or the one on the bottom?”
Jiang Ningyuan spat. “Could I possibly be on the bottom?”
Zhou Geng gave a dry laugh. “To… top is good. Top is great…”
After taking two more puffs of his cigarette, Jiang Ningyuan stubbed out the remaining half in the ashtray.
“Let’s drink… tonight, we don’t go home until we’re drunk!”
“I’m afraid I can’t. I have to work tomorrow.” While speaking, Ming Yanzhou raised his glass to clink with theirs.
“Zhou-zai, are you still butting heads with your dad? If you ask me, just bow your head and admit you’re wrong.” After saying that, Jiang Ningyuan suddenly remembered something Ming Yanzhou had said in the group chat that had kept him and Zhou Geng awake all night.
“Zhou-zai, you said in the group chat before that you were at your ‘future wife’s’ house. You have someone you like too?”
The corners of Ming Yanzhou’s lips curled up. Thinking of Shen Ci made him feel pleasant. “Mm, I do.”
“Who is it? Got a photo?” Zhou Geng leaned closer to Ming Yanzhou, two bright words practically floating over his head:
[Curiosity.]
“No photo. I haven’t won him over yet.”
“Tsk. With that face of yours, you still haven’t won them over? What kind of celestial being is so hard to chase?”
Jiang Ningyuan was also curious. “Why don’t you invite her out so the brothers can take a look?”
“He has a boyfriend, so I haven’t won him over yet.”
“Oh, he has a boyfriend…” Jiang Ningyuan’s mouth was faster than his brain. The moment the words left his lips, he realized something was wrong.
His eyes widened like bronze bells, and his volume shot up. “He has a boyfriend???”
Zhou Geng was also shocked. These two brothers of his were truly becoming more shocking by the second. If he had known this drama was coming, he would have saved it for the New Year’s Gala.
Ming Yanzhou remained calm, sounding quite righteous. “Is there a problem?”
“Of course there’s a problem, bro! Someone has a boyfriend and you’re trying to wedge yourself in? Being a third party is immoral.” Jiang Ningyuan looked full of righteous indignation.
Zhou Geng also nodded silently. Have fun, but don’t play around with morality.
Ming Yanzhou took another sip of his wine. He didn’t listen to a single word of Jiang Ningyuan’s lecture. He hadn’t even successfully become the “third” yet…
“While it’s shameful to fall in love with someone else’s boyfriend, wouldn’t it be more moral if I put it this way: the person I like happens to be someone else’s boyfriend?”
Zhou Geng felt like he was having auditory hallucinations. Clearly, Jiang Ningyuan felt the same. The two of them looked at each other, both seeing a trace of confusion on the other’s face.
“Someone else’s… boyfriend?” Zhou Geng’s Adam’s apple rolled. “Zhou-zai, did your tongue slip? Shouldn’t it be ‘girlfriend’?”
Ming Yanzhou lifted his eyelids to look at Zhou Geng. “No. The person I like is also a man.”
Zhou Geng heard him clearly this time. He silently shifted to the side, but then remembered Jiang Ningyuan was on the other side. For a moment, he was caught in a dilemma.
“Haha… uh… did you two plan this together?” Zhou Geng forced a smile, though he looked quite miserable.
