Chapter 33: Ge-ge-ge-ge-ge… (First Update)
“Don’t think you can use that cute face to worm your way out of this; I heard you loud and clear!”
The monarch, who was usually elegant, reserved, and fixated on court etiquette, lost his composure for the first time. He pointed a trembling finger at the cub, looking the picture of a heartbroken man.
The cub panicked.
Now it was the cub’s turn to circle around the youth. He tilted his small face up, staring at the red-haired youth with wide, pleading eyes, trying to regain his attention.
Just as the cub was about to reach the front of him, the red-haired youth let out a cold hmph and immediately turned his back.
Shen Lin scratched his head in anxiety. In his desperation, two more words popped out: “Little… Chicken…”
Li Heng: “…”
Just who in the world destroyed my image in front of the cub!
Seeing the cub getting so anxious that fine beads of sweat were appearing on his forehead, Li Heng’s heart softened after all.
He took a deep breath, turned around, and squatted in front of the cub. He said seriously, “Come, Bingbing, look at my mouth and read after me: Ge-ge!”
“Ge~”
“It’s not ‘ge,’ it’s Ge-ge~”
“Ge… Ge-ge~”
“Mm, Little Bear is wonderful!”
Li Heng was satisfied.
Now, that was more like it.
“Ge-ge~”
“Aye!”
“Ge-ge~”
“Aye, good baby!”
“Ge-ge… Little Chicken…”
“It’s not Ge-ge, it’s Little Chicken… Bah! I almost let you lead me astray. Call me Ge-ge~”
Shen Lin covered his small mouth with his hands, opening his dark, round eyes wide. He looked at Li Heng innocently but refused to call him that again.
Li Heng: “…”
Li Heng suddenly felt that the cub could be quite infuriating sometimes.
But on second thought—forget it, forget it. The cub was still small; even saying two words was difficult. He’d wait until he was a bit older to correct him.
Li Heng brainwashed himself, lowering his expectations for the cub further and further.
“Little Chicken… Ge-ge~”
Li Heng responded helplessly, “Mm.”
“Little Chicken… Ge-ge~”
“Mm.”
“Little Chicken… Ge-ge~”
“I hear you, Little Bear.”
Li Heng grew annoyed and intentionally pulled a stern face to intimidate the cub.
“Hee-hee~”
The cub wasn’t afraid of “Little Chicken Brother’s” intimidation at all. A flash of craftiness flickered in his eyes.
What kind of ulterior motives could a little monster have?
He simply wanted to call him Little Chicken Brother.
Shen Zejue had a bandage stuck to his cheek as usual when he plopped down into his seat.
The action of pulling the chair was so rough that the chair let out a piercing screech under the heavy load.
Both the person and the cub at the dining table frowned simultaneously.
Shen Zejue seemed completely oblivious. With that rebellious face of his, his eyes drifted toward the cub with a resentful gaze.
At first, Shen Lin didn’t notice anything wrong.
Third Brother Shen loved to take an inch when given a mile; as long as Shen Lin paid him any attention, he would immediately stick to him and start fidgeting with his hands and feet.
Although their relationship had softened, they weren’t close enough to “wear the same pair of pants.”
Shen Lin’s chubby hand gripped the cutlery specially designed to assist cubs. He was focused on waiting for the meal when he suddenly felt a burning gaze.
He looked up and met Shen Number Three’s resentful face. A flash of confusion crossed his eyes.
Shen Lin didn’t want to cause trouble today. Mikhiel was making traditional delicacies of the Ikas Empire; he heard they were Little Chicken Brother’s favorite foods, so he definitely wanted to taste them.
He couldn’t hide things on his baby-fat face; his eager gaze kept drifting toward the kitchen.
“Cough!”
Shen Zejue let out a heavy cough. It didn’t get the cub’s attention, but it did attract a sidelong glance from Second Sister Shen.
Feeling the faint murderous aura coming from his second sister, Shen Zejue subconsciously shrank his neck, tempering his movements.
However, the resentful gaze he directed at the cub still didn’t retract.
Shen Lin just turned his head and saw Shen Number Three’s strange expression again; his open eyes closed once more.
A wild, rebellious youth acting like a resentful woman—it was truly an eyesore.
Shen Zejue showed a stubborn attitude of “today I’m going to stare you down.”
Shen Lin couldn’t help but blurt out: “What~”
When he wasn’t in a hurry to speak, the cub went back to his habit of spitting out words syllable by syllable.
A street-thug-like word suddenly came out of that adorable milky voice.
“Pfft!”
“Cough, cough!”
It successfully broke the composure of the other two people at the table.
Shen Lin blinked, looking innocent.
Shen Zejue almost doubled over with laughter.
Shen Zexi put down her utensils, picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth, and looked at her ignorant younger brother with a face full of helplessness.
When she turned to look at Shen Zejue, her attitude changed, and she criticized: “Shen Number Three, what kind of demon are you trying to be now? If you don’t want to eat, get back to your own room!”
“Sister, you’re wronging me again.”
Shen Zejue put on a wronged expression, which successfully made his second sister’s face darken.
Fearing his sister would hit him again, he hurriedly began to accuse the cub, “It’s all because Bingbing follows others around calling them ‘Brother’ left and right. All the benefits are being taken by others. I haven’t even heard Bingbing call me ‘Brother’ yet—on what basis does he get to…”
The more Shen Zejue spoke, the smaller his voice became.
He pouted, poking at the food on his plate half-heartedly.
The beast meat, which was full of color, aroma, and taste, was poked full of tiny holes, instantly losing its appeal.
This time, Shen Zexi didn’t scold her third brother as usual. Her gaze turned to the cub.
That was right; the cub had been home for so long, yet she had never heard him call her “Second Sister.”
And so, the second sister, who had always been on the cub’s side, joined the same camp as Shen Number Three for the first time. The two of them stared at the cub with burning eyes.
The cub felt uncomfortable under their gaze and wiggled his butt.
He suddenly felt like he didn’t necessarily have to eat this meal.
Shen Zejue’s eyes were sharp. Seeing that the cub wanted to make a run for it, he stepped over with his long legs and pressed his large hands onto the cub’s small shoulders.
“Hehe, Bingbing, call me San-gege~”
His voice subconsciously went high-pitched, successfully disgusting the second sister next to him.
Shen Lin poked his chubby fingers together and pursed his lips, not saying a word.
Shen Zejue thought the cub was just shy, so he pulled a small round box out of his pocket.
He reached out and twisted it open, and a sweet scent of candy wafted out.
Pink gummy bears were packed inside a crystal box. Just looking at them made one’s appetite surge.
The cub’s gaze was successfully drawn by the gummy bears.
A smug smile curved on Shen Zejue’s lips. He closed the lid, waved it in front of the cub, and said enticingly, “Bingbing, as long as you call me San-gege, I’ll give it to you immediately. How about it?”
Would Shen Lin yield for a few trinkets?
Of course…
He would!
“Xiao San… Ge-ge~”
The sweetness was doubled!
“Aye!”
Shen Zejue was immediately so enchanted by the cub’s over-the-limit sweet milky voice that he didn’t know which way was north. He didn’t even notice that the cub had added an extra word to the title.
Shen Zexi: “…”
Unbearable to watch!
Big Brother was right; Number Three was smart on the surface but turned into an idiot the moment he encountered Number Four.
Shen Zexi criticized Number Three in her heart.
Unbeknownst to her, little streams of sourness were bubbling up in her own heart.
After calling him, Shen Lin immediately snatched the gummy bears.
Shen Zejue hadn’t tightened the cap; the cub only gave it a light twist and it opened.
The sweetness of industrial candy exploded in his mouth. His dark apricot eyes lit up, looking like they were filled with the stars of the night sky.
This was also the first time Shen Lin had tasted what candy was like.
The new world was truly wonderful; it had many, many foods that Shen Lin had never eaten before.
Like candy—in the past, it was something he could only look at but never reach.
Now, he could eat it too.
It was so good.
Shen Lin was completely immersed in the sweetness of the candy, naturally failing to notice the small expectation in his second sister’s eyes opposite him.
The cub hid the box of candy inside his secret space. After finishing, he smacked his lips, as if he could still taste the sweetness of the candy.
He gave the secret space a reluctant look, then turned and ran outside with a pitter-patter.
As a result, the room door hadn’t even closed completely before it was pushed open again.
Shen Lin ran back into the room with his short legs.
Licking his lips, he muttered to himself, “Maybe… one more?”
He climbed to the center of the nest, pried open the energy stones, took out the small round box from under the space, and pulled out a candy to stuff into his mouth.
The sweet taste was addictive.
Shen Lin squinted his eyes, savoring it carefully.
When the sweetness in his mouth faded, he took out another and popped it in.
One after another, the cub lost control and directly ate more than half.
Seeing the thin layer at the bottom of the bottle, Shen Lin’s face filled with heartache.
He shook the box disbelievingly.
“Gone~”
The cub pouted his red little mouth. Pink-furred ears suddenly popped out from the top of his head and drooped down listlessly.
A’mei saw the young master who had run back into the room. When he came out again, he looked heartbroken, which she found strange.
“What’s wrong with the young master?”
The cub shook his head.
“ε=(ο`*))) Sigh.”
He let out a heavy sigh, put his small hands behind his back, and ran out despondently to watch ants move their home.
He left A’mei with a face full of question marks.
The little cub’s sorrow was unknown to anyone.
Once Shen Lin had tasted the sweetness, it was like he was addicted. He would wake up in the middle of the night and couldn’t resist taking one from the box to stuff into his mouth.
The next day, that thin layer in the exquisite small round box successfully disappeared.
The little cub was visibly unhappy, and this unhappiness didn’t even improve upon seeing Papa.
Father Shen had traveled day and night without rest, returning home covered in the dust of the road.
Because of his second daughter’s multi-pronged intimidation, he had risked passing through the territory of those bandits in the Ninth District and had been chased halfway across the Federation before finally making it home.
Father Shen didn’t even change into clean clothes; he went straight to the youngest’s living quarters, wanting to give him a surprise.
He expected to get a fragrant and sweet embrace and hear the cub call him “Ba-ba” in that sweet milky voice.
Father Shen had already opened his arms, waiting for the cub to lunge.
However, his youngest only gave him a faint glance, buried his little head, and fell back to sleep.
The expectant Father Shen: o(╥﹏╥)o
