Chapter 223: The Human Wall
The two of them found a place near the escape room for lunch. Feng Xing ordered a bunch of food and only then asked, “By the way, who else is coming today?”
Shen Shuyu took a sip of warm lemon water. “Chi Yanxun.”
Feng Xing, who had been looking down at his phone, suddenly jerked his head up. “Why are you hanging out with Chi Yanxun again?”
Shen Shuyu put down his glass and corrected him, “It’s us hanging out with him.”
Shen Shuyu had considered asking Lin Xuyi and the others, but after thinking it over, he felt Feng Xing was the most suitable. Lin Xuyi and the others were Chi Yanxunâs teammates; if he had a conflict with Chi Yanxun, they might lean toward mediation since everyone knew each other and didn’t want to make things ugly.
But Feng Xing was different. Looking back at the days since he transmigrated, Feng Xing had been his unwavering best friend from start to finish.
Feng Xing frowned. “Shuyu, it’s not that I want to nag, but Chi Yanxunâs city is really not as shallow as you think. He doesn’t seem like the type of person who would fall for someone.”
Feng Xing sighed. “You have to see clearly. Don’t just eagerly throw yourself at him.”
Feng Xing actually harbored a lot of hostility toward Chi Yanxun. He and Shen Shuyu had grown up together; they were childhood friends, “bamboo horses.”
The two of them had done everything together, both good and bad, since they were little. He had long since treated Shen Shuyu like a biological younger brother. Shen Shuyu himself had a good temper and none of the typical young master spoiled traits. Before meeting Chi Yanxun, Shen Shuyu was incredibly popular; everyone liked playing with him. They had assumed he would differentiate into an Alpha, but he unexpectedly became an Omega.
That didn’t matter. When the Shen family wasn’t looking, he, as an “honorary brother,” could still look after him.
But everything changed when he met Chi Yanxun.
Shen Shuyu started becoming arrogant and overbearing, as if he had become a different person. He didn’t just drift away from his other friends; even when Feng Xing wanted to say something, he would be impatiently interrupted.
Feng Xing sighed. After their relationship cooled, he still paid attention to Shen Shuyuâs movements. Watching him be humiliated by Chi Yanxun yet still eagerly trying to get close made a fire of anger rise in his heart. He wished he could tear Chi Yanxun apart.
He was once just a mere illegitimate son of the Chi family; how did he dare treat Shen Shuyu that way!
Moreover, he had finally seen Shen Shuyu return to the version of himself he was familiar with and distance himself from Chi Yanxun. Before he could even be happy for long, he saw his good friend getting mixed up with him again.
Feng Xing felt his desire to tear Chi Yanxun apart growing stronger, yet there was nothing he could do.
Shen Shuyu ignored Feng Xingâs anger and gave a hum of affirmation. He said, “I’m not ‘throwing myself’ at him. He invited me out.”
“He invited you?” Feng Xingâs voice went up an octave. “He invites you and you just come?”
Shen Shuyu looked at him. “Didn’t I call you along too?”
Feng Xing gulped down a glass of lemon water. He calmed down a bit and asked, “Shuyu, what exactly are you thinking?”
Shen Shuyu said, “Actually, I’m not thinking much. I just think he’s been very strange lately and want to see what’s really going on.”
“Strange?” Feng Xing was puzzled.
Shen Shuyu nodded. “Yes. It’s as if he’s become a completely different person.”
In a few sentences, he explained his previous meeting with Chi Yanxun. When Feng Xing heard that Chi Yanxun wanted to pursue Shen Shuyu, his back teeth were almost ground to dust.
Does he deserve it?
Does he deserve it?
He doesn’t even deserve a key to a lock!
The food arrived. Shen Shuyu picked up his chopsticks. “Don’t act like you have a deep grudge against him. In the past, it was indeed me chasing after him, but it won’t be like that in the future.”
Feng Xing took a deep breath. “Fine. But I can’t help it; I’m a person who makes his likes and dislikes very clear.”
He watched Shen Shuyu eat and asked, “So what do you want me to do later?”
Shen Shuyu said, “I have a feeling he’s going to do something. Just keep a close eye on him for me.”
Feng Xing agreed readily. “Fine.”
Isn’t it just keeping an eye on someone? He was going to stare Chi Yanxun to death and see what kind of tricks he was up to!
After finishing lunch and sitting at the computer for a while, Shen Shuyu finally received a message from Chi Yanxun saying they had arrived.
This escape room was for a group of six. Shen Shuyu brought Feng Xing, and the remaining three were for Chi Yanxun to assemble.
When they met up, Shuyu discovered that Chi Yanxun had actually called Lin Xuyi.
Lin Xuyi was also a bit surprised to see Feng Xing and Shen Shuyu. After all, in his impression, Chi Yanxun stayed as far away from Shen Shuyu as possible.
However, Lin Xuyi quickly recovered and greeted them, “Shuyu, Feng Xing, long time no see.”
Shen Shuyu nodded as a greeting.
Lin Xuyi said, “There are only four of us. We’re still missing two.”
Chi Yanxun replied, “The owner will help us round out the group.”
After saying that, he looked at Shen Shuyu and handed him a cup of milk tea he was carrying. “It’s hot. Drink it.”
Lin Xuyiâs eyes widened on the side. Whoa, whoa, whoa. What is going on?
Had the sun risen from the west today? Had the iceberg that was Chi Yanxun finally been cracked?
Shen Shuyu thanked him and took the milk tea. Beside him, Feng Xing spoke up, “Ah, I’m thirsty. I haven’t bought water yet.”
Shen Shuyu naturally handed the milk tea to Feng Xing. “You drink it then.”
Feng Xing said with a beam, “Awesome. Thanks, my Little Fish (Xiao Yu/ Little Yu).”
He inserted the straw into the milk tea, took a large gulp, and said, “Not bad. Thanks, Chi Yanxun. But it’s too sweet; my Little Fish doesn’t like things this sweet.”
Chi Yanxun gave a fake, strained smile.
Seeing that the silent smoke of war had already begun to rise, Lin Xuyi hurriedly intervened, “Since everyone is here, let’s head into the shop. Standing out here isn’t the way to go.”
With Lin Xuyiâs mediation, Feng Xing temporarily set aside his resentment.
The four of them walked toward the newly opened escape room. Feng Xing, carrying the milk tea, stood firmly between Chi Yanxun and Shen Shuyu, acting as a diligent guardian.
Looking at Feng Xing, Chi Yanxun was already becoming irritable, though he didn’t show it on his face.
It’ll be fine once we get inside, Chi Yanxun comforted himself.
The owner had found two Omegas for them, who were said to be classmates of the owner. Hearing that Chi Yanxun was playing this round, they insisted on coming along, so the owner had no choice but to let them.
As soon as the two Omegas arrived, they crowded around Chi Yanxun. Feng Xing gave a cold sneer. Lin Xuyi, hearing it, couldn’t help but ask, “Feng Xing, why do I feel like you have a massive grievance against Captain Chi?”
Feng Xing asked back, “Do I?”
Lin Xuyi nodded. “Yes.”
Feng Xing said calmly, “Then your feeling is correct.”
Lin Xuyi was choked by the response. He glanced toward the restroom and then at Chi Yanxun, who was surrounded by Omegas. He pulled Feng Xing to the side and whispered, “Doesn’t Shuyu like Captain Chi? If you stand between them like a dog-skin plaster, aren’t you afraid Shuyu will beat you up when you get back?”
Feng Xing said, “Shuyu doesn’t like Chi Yanxun.”
He thought for a moment and corrected himself, “Maybe he did in the past, but that was in the past. It doesn’t count anymore.”
He warned, “You better not try to play peacemaker in the middle, otherwise don’t blame me for being heartless.”
The two of them had been in a competition class together in high school, though their relationship was average. It only improved after Shen Shuyu joined.
However, only the three of them knew that.
Lin Xuyi patted his shoulder. “Look at what you’re saying. I don’t have a hobby for being a matchmaker.”
Actually, Lin Xuyi didn’t know why Chi Yanxun had looked for him either. He had received a message last night asking to come out and play. He had been interning lately and happened to have a day off, so he figured he’d come out and relax.
He hadn’t expected this trip to reveal so many things to him.
“What are you two chatting about?” Shen Shuyuâs voice sounded from the side. The two turned to see that at some point, Chi Yanxun was already standing next to Shen Shuyu. With the two of them standing together, they certainly never lost in terms of looks.
Feng Xing hurried over and said, “Nothing. I was just asking if he wanted to play games together when we get back.”
Lin Xuyi nodded. “Yeah.”
Seeing Feng Xing standing next to him and Shen Shuyu again, Chi Yanxunâs hanging hand clenched slightly. So annoying.
It seemed he would have to teach Feng Xing a lesson sooner or later, or it would be hard to swallow this breath.
