Chapter 61: Calling Him Something Else in Private
Mu Feng hadn’t expected the repulsion between Alphas to be this intense.
He did his best to suppress the discomfort, but his fingers, clutching the hem of Liang Yuhang’s white lab coat, were trembling.
“Uncomfortable?” Liang Yuhang reached out, brushing away the hair dampened by sweat from Mu Feng’s forehead. “Even with a low compatibility rate, it shouldn’t be this bad.”
Mu Feng raised his hand, hurriedly adjusting his suppression bracelet to the highest setting. He finally felt the heavy weight on his chest lift.
His lips parted slightly. “Maybe it was just too sudden.”
Liang Yuhang looked down at him. The boy’s small face was deathly pale, looking utterly piteous.
He placed the back of his hand against the other’s forehead to check his temperature. “You wanted a reward, yet you’ve ended up making yourself miserable.”
“I don’t want it anymore.” Mu Feng leaned his head against the back of the man’s hand, feeling lightheaded and dizzy. “Next time.”
There’s a next time? He really is bold.
Liang Yuhang turned his gaze to the compatibility report. He had never been with an Omega, so he truly didn’t know what kind of consequences an S-class Alpha’s pheromones would trigger.
From the looks of it, Mu Feng was simply too delicate.
He remained leaning back in his swivel chair, letting the boy lean against him. “My mother wants us to head back for dinner tonight.”
“Ah? Does she want to drag me in for another check-up?” Mu Feng instantly grew alert. “We already tested our compatibility.”
“No. We were supposed to visit after the engagement banquet, but I didn’t bring it up because you were busy with exams.” Liang Yuhang noted his nervous expression. “Are you that afraid of a check-up?”
Mu Feng thought to himself, If the Liang family’s eldest son finds out he married an Alpha, the whole place will explode.
He muttered a half-truth, “I’m afraid they’ll pressure us for children. My development is… incomplete. I can’t conceive.”
“If you hadn’t been spouting nonsense, they wouldn’t have even thought about that.” Liang Yuhang let out a soft laugh. His hand slid down from Mu Feng’s forehead, resting against his lower abdomen. “You can’t have children?”
“Mhm. Not even a slight possibility.” Mu Feng felt the warmth of the man’s palm through his skin. He looked up at him. “Do you mind?”
Liang Yuhang felt it necessary to remind him, “This is a fake engagement. There was no agreement regarding children. It doesn’t matter.”
“Then… do you like kids?” Mu Feng prodded tentatively.
Liang Yuhang gave a faint, inscrutable smile. “I loathe all humans. Children are the most annoying among them. What do you think?”
Hearing this, Mu Feng let out a massive sigh of relief. It was a blessing among misfortunes; the man truly hated everyone equally.
Mu Feng offered a sincere smile. “I don’t like them either. That works out perfectly. We won’t have them—we can just raise 0717 like a baby.”
Raise 0717 together? They didn’t seem to have a reason to go that far.
Liang Yuhang didn’t speak, but his palm pressed down slightly. “Then you should be glad that the person you’re engaged to is me. If it were Liang Jingyi…”
Just imagining the possibility made him feel a flicker of displeasure.
“Absolutely impossible. I’d rather die to prove my resolve,” Mu Feng answered decisively. “If I had to choose a partner to cooperate with, Professor Liang, it would only ever be you.”
Liang Yuhang was pleased by the answer.
Mu Feng whispered, “There’s another benefit to me being unable to conceive. It means we don’t have to use…”
“Mu Feng.” Liang Yuhang interrupted him. “That wasn’t in the agreement either.”
Mu Feng blinked. “Then what happens when the heat cycle comes? Do you want me to find someone else?”
The question stumped Liang Yuhang.
Images of the time he had assisted Mu Feng before came rushing back. Even his fingertips felt a trace of restless heat. “We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”
If it really comes to that, I can generously help him one more time.
Mu Feng gave an “oh,” feeling a bit regretful. It didn’t matter; if there was no opportunity, he would find a time to create one.
Having recovered a bit, he stood up from Liang Yuhang’s embrace. “Alright. I won’t disturb you further. See you tonight.”
Liang Yuhang watched his departing back, then looked down at his own fingers.
Truly an idiot. He’d probably thank someone for bullying him.
After finishing his afternoon meetings, he picked up Mu Feng and headed back to the Liang residence.
They had only met briefly during the engagement banquet, but Mu Feng had a very good impression of Liang Yuhang’s mother, Wen Yuan. “Auntie Wen, we’re here.”
“Are you still calling me ‘Auntie’?” Wen Yuan smiled. “It’s time to change your address.”
The words swirled in Mu Feng’s mouth before he stuttered out, “Mom.”
Liang Yuhang let out a very soft chuckle.
“How cute.” Wen Yuan pulled a small box from her pocket. “Yuhang said he bought everything you need, so I went to pray for a safety bell to give to you.”
Hearing this, Mu Feng’s wrist instinctively jerked back.
“Oh, you already have one.” Wen Yuan noticed the bell hanging from his suppression bracelet. “My mistake, I didn’t ask before.”
Mu Feng uncomfortably touched his wrist. “Yes… my health wasn’t great before, so I went to a temple to pray for one. It’s okay, I can wear two.”
“I told you there was no need for the trouble. Your health isn’t great, you shouldn’t walk around so much.” Liang Yuhang shook Mu Feng’s hand. “This bell of his rings all day and night as it is. Adding another will be noisy enough to kill me.”
“You’re the noisy one.” Mu Feng wrinkled his nose and reached out, cherishingly taking the small box.
The previous bell had also been prayed for by Wen Yuan—for Liang Yuhang. After a series of twists and turns, it had ended up in his hands.
Receiving this second one made Mu Feng genuinely happy. Wen Yuan truly treated him like her own child.
“Thank you, Mom,” Mu Feng said, more naturally this time.
“Why didn’t you pray for me? I was hospitalized. You’re so biased.” Liang Jingyi’s voice arrived before he did. He was doing better, but he still walked slowly.
Wen Yuan remarked, “You’re tough. You don’t need such things. Look at you—back on your feet in three days.”
Liang Jingyi clicked his tongue, looking displeased. “Biased.”
Mu Feng muttered under his breath, “Your father is biased too, don’t see you whining about that.”
“What did you say?” Liang Jingyi’s ears were incredibly sharp.
“I said, didn’t you have a dinner date with Zhou Tiantian? You stood her up again.” Mu Feng didn’t give him a friendly face.
Liang Jingyi said carelessly, “The date was for tonight, but who knew I’d have to come home? After all, meeting my sister-in-law is more important than that person.”
Mu Feng rolled his eyes.
Poor Tiantian. Another luxury dinner gone to waste.
“Everyone is here.” Liang Zhaoqing arrived late. He sat in the head seat and spoke while the food was being served. “Zhang Luyan said you two did a compatibility test?”
Liang Yuhang gave a hum of affirmation as he served soup for Mu Feng. “We did.”
“It couldn’t be a total mismatch, could it?” Liang Jingyi said with a smirk. “If you ask me, since you haven’t registered the marriage yet, you should consider changing partners.”
“Watch your mouth,” Wen Yuan interjected. “That is your sister-in-law. Show some respect.”
Liang Zhaoqing patted her back, signaling her not to get angry. “What was the compatibility rate?”
Mu Feng didn’t speak, keeping his head down as he drank his soup.
Liang Yuhang said indifferently, “The number doesn’t matter. The engagement is done. Are you planning to break the contract?”
“So it must be very low,” Liang Jingyi said gloatingly. “And you even lied to me about being pregnant. It’s not that easy to conceive with a low compatibility rate.”
“We don’t plan on having children anyway.” Liang Yuhang’s sentence shut him up instantly.
Liang Zhaoqing raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean ‘no plans’? He’s young now, but you can start preparing in two years. Isn’t the point of marrying an Omega to carry on the family line?”
Mu Feng buried his head even lower. He knew this dinner wouldn’t bring anything good.
“Mu Feng, eat.” Liang Yuhang placed a piece of cod in his bowl and said slowly, “I don’t want kids. Liang Jingyi loves the idea; let him have eight or ten for you.”
“You’re really going to be the death of me.” Liang Zhaoqing slapped the table. “Do you spend every day thinking about how to kill me so you can inherit the estate?”
Liang Yuhang was accustomed to this dialogue. “I didn’t say that.”
Mu Feng reached out, pressing his hand against the man’s wrist. He whispered, “Don’t be angry.”
Wen Yuan stepped in to smooth things over. “Why do you always bring up children during a perfectly good meal? It’s such a buzzkill. Our Mu Feng took first place in his exams, didn’t he? Truly impressive.”
“Mhm. I got lucky.” Mu Feng wasn’t used to this kind of praise; he felt a bit awkward.
Liang Yuhang wasn’t stingy with his compliments. “He was always smart. He’ll be even more outstanding in the future.”
Mu Feng’s cheeks turned even redder. “Alright, stop the praising.”
“He’s actually shy. How cute.” Wen Yuan smiled. “Nineteen is the age to focus on studies, but don’t neglect Yuhang. You just got engaged; you should go on dates once in a while.”
“My brother? On a date? He’s either in the operating room or his office all day.” Liang Jingyi hadn’t given up. “Really, what’s the fun in being with someone like him?”
Mu Feng countered him with a straight face, “I like it. Mind your own business.”
Liang Yuhang slowly turned his head, sweeping a glance over him.
Mu Feng realized he had been a bit too smooth with his words and quickly added, “Professor Liang is contributing to the field of medicine. What do you know?”
“You’re still calling him ‘Professor Liang’?” Wen Yuan’s eyes widened.
Liang Zhaoqing and Liang Jingyi also looked over, as if they had detected something.
Under their scrutiny, Mu Feng’s brain stalled. What are you supposed to call someone after getting engaged?
Husband? Too cheesy, I can’t say it.
Daddy… that’s even more taboo. His actual father is sitting right there.
Liang Yuhang felt the pleading gaze and let out a very light laugh.
Still a child. A little questioning and he’s about to slip up.
He reached out naturally, rubbing the back of Mu Feng’s stiff neck to comfort him. “He calls me something else in private. Right, Good Baby?”
