Chapter 46: I Never Gave You Permission to Move Freely
Su Huaiyao felt like he wanted to kill Shen Yuan the moment he heard those words. His heart was already half-crazed with jealousy.
He could no longer endure it. Tears began to fall pitter-patter down his face as he sobbed beautifully, looking like pear blossoms in the rain.
“Xiu-Xiuqing Gege… I don’t want to share my boyfriend with anyone else. Shen Yuan must have done this because he loves you too much, but I… I don’t like this kind of behavior…”
Seeing his beloved in such a state of utter heartbreak, Yu Xiuqing naturally felt pained. His eyes darkened abruptly as he reached out to wipe the tears from Su Huaiyaoâs face. A thin smile played on his lips.
“Xiaoyao, don’t worry. I only love you. Shen Yuan is just a servant who has overstepped his bounds. Once we return, I will give him an even stricter punishment so he remembers his place.”
Su Huaiyao nodded aggrievedly and then threw himself into the manâs arms, speaking delicately, “Mmm… I believe Xiuqing Gege will handle this properly.”
Shen Yuan propped himself up from the floor. Watching the two of them in such a tender display of affection, a bitterness born of being wronged surged into his throat, making him want to cry. He spoke up in protest, “I-I didn’t seduce Xiansheng at all! It was Xiansheng who…”
But before he could finish, half a glass of red wine was suddenly splashed onto him. His clean, fair face was soaked through, and the crimson liquid trickled down his neck and into his clothes.
The icy sensation instantly spread through his entire body. Shen Yuan sat there in a pathetic state, his face filled with stunned disbelief.
He looked miserably at the crystal glass in the manâs hand. His lips trembled with cold, and he began to shiver violently.
Why did even Xiansheng have to frame him…
Su Huaiyaoâs dark eyes flashed with provocation as he looked at the youth, a triumphant smile blooming at the corners of his eyes.
Yu Xiuqing didn’t care in the slightest how cold that little thing he had been torturing was. Instead, he tenderly took the “White Moonlightâs” hand, their fingers interlocking. His eyes were filled with a clear smile.
“Xiaoyao, let’s go wish Grandfather a happy birthday.”
“Mhm~”
Su Huaiyao tilted his head and leaned against his shoulder, looking like the picture of happiness. His dyed hair rubbed affectionately against the manâs neck as he hummed contentedly, acting like a delicate little bird.
Yu Xiuqing felt a bit uncomfortable as the stiff, styled hair pricked his skin, and he frowned slightly.
For some reason, he found himself missing the feeling of Shen Yuan lying in his arms, his cheeks flushed as he rubbed against his chin.
A strange wave of heat hit him. He had no choice but to tug at his collar, undoing a button to relieve the discomfort.
But Su Huaiyao, leaning against him, didn’t seem to notice his impatience at all and rubbed against him even more vigorously.
“Walk properly, don’t trip.”
Yu Xiuqing eventually pushed his head away. His hand pulled back from the other’s grasp as he preoccupied himself with straightening his tie.
Su Huaiyao was startled by this sudden change in attitude. His mouth pouted in dissatisfaction, but he didn’t dare say anything.
Shen Yuan saw them turn to leave and instinctively tried to run toward Zhou Xuyan, but he was stopped by Yu Xiuqingâs sudden, bone-chilling voice:
“Shen Yuan, I never gave you permission to move freely. Iâll give you three seconds. Get back to my side immediately.”
Upon hearing the command, the little fool froze in his tracks. He looked through tear-blurred eyes at the battered “Guitar Gege” not far away, then finally bit his lip and turned back helplessly.
If he didn’t behave and listen to Mister Yu, he would surely face an even more terrifying punishment. Moreover, that cold-blooded man would definitely not let Zhou Xuyan off!
Guitar Gege, I hope you stay safe…
Shen Yuan prayed silently in his heart. He followed behind the two of them without a word, his expression numb and full of pain.
He had almost thought he could finally touch the sunlight, but Yu Xiuqingâs appearance had plunged him back into the abyss.
As they walked, the tall figure in front suddenly stopped. Because Shen Yuan had his head down, he walked straight into the manâs back, letting out a sharp gasp of pain.
He rubbed his reddened forehead and immediately bowed in apology, “S-sorry! I didn’t mean to!”
But the scolding he expected never came. Yu Xiuqing didn’t pay him any attention at all. Instead, he was comforting Su Huaiyao, who was preparing to go on stage to play. He encouraged him gently:
“Go on. Don’t be nervous. I believe in you.”
“Mhm! Then I’m going.”
After Su Huaiyao finished speaking, he turned and stepped toward the stage. As he passed Shen Yuan, he deliberately shot him a contemptuous glare and bumped his shoulder against Shen Yuanâs.
Shen Yuan staggered a few steps, nearly falling.
He watched as Su Huaiyao walked onto the stage with his head held high, standing under the brilliant spotlight that drew everyone’s gaze. His heart, which had never dared to hope for much, felt a pang of loneliness.
Someone as excellent as Su Huaiyao is worthy of standing by Mister Yuâs side. I am nothing…
Yu Xiuqing saw his despondent look and assumed he was thinking about that man named Zhou again. His anger flared instantly. “What are you dazed for? Follow me!”
Shen Yuan was startled by the shout. He stole a glance at the dark-faced man, timidly clutching the hem of his clothes. He could only follow behind him aggrievedly.
Below the stage was a magnificently arranged head table. Those seated there were either prominent figures in the business world or heavyweight elders of the family.
When Jiang Tianming saw his nephew approaching, he immediately stood up and extended his hand warmly, “Xiuqing! Itâs been a long time. When did you get back? You didn’t even say a word to your eldest uncle.”
Yu Xiuqing acted as if he hadn’t seen him. His face remained expressionless as his gaze swept over the guests. His eyes were so indifferent it was as if he were looking at a pile of dead objects.
He walked straight past Jiang Tianming. He even shifted his clothes slightly to avoid the hand hanging in mid-air before sitting down next to Old Master Yu.
“…”
The atmosphere became extremely awkward. Jiang Tianming could only retract his hand sullenly. Seeing the mocking looks from those around him, he fumedâwho could endure being ignored after taking the initiative to greet a junior?
But he actually did endure it. He sat back down with a forced smile. After all, whose grandfather was a world-renowned tycoon in the investment world? His own success today was thanks to the Yu family.
As Shen Yuan passed this “Old Uncle,” he heard the man mutter under his breath about an “ungrateful brat.” The manâs face was turned purple with suppressed rage, frightening Shen Yuan into quickening his pace.
Walking to the head seat, his heart hammered against his ribs. Looking at the dignified old man sitting in the center, Shen Yuan began to sweat with nerves, his breathing becoming difficult.
The little fool didn’t dare go over. He stood dazed in place, his lips moving, but he didn’t dare call out to Xiansheng.
He took a deep breath and turned his body stiffly, wanting to sneak away, but Yu Xiuqingâs cold, sharp voice rang out:
“Where are you going? Come here.”
Shen Yuan bit his lip and returned to his side, standing before the table with his head hanging low.
Next, he heard Old Master Yu scolding Yu Xiuqing, “After coming out of the military, your temperament has become increasingly arrogant. You have no respect for your elders at all!”
Yu Xiuqing leaned back in his chair with his legs crossed. He flicked a speck of dust off his trousers, his long, narrow eyes full of a wild, unrestrained expression. “I have no intention of acknowledging these so-called relatives. When my father died, not a single one of them dared to step forward.”
“Your fatherâs identity was too special. They stayed away back then because they were afraid the criminals would bring disaster upon them. Everyone looks out for themselves; don’t blame them for being cold.”
When Old Master Yu spoke these words, Shen Yuan thought he saw a faint shimmer of tears in his eyes, though the light made it hard to tell.
After all, of his two sons, one had died young and he had cut ties with the other. It was natural for an old man to feel such grief.
Yu Xiuqing remained silent, but his face darkened instantly. His brows were clouded with gloom, and a murderous aura suddenly surged around him, the pressure making people’s hearts skip a beat.
Standing beside him, Shen Yuan shivered instinctively and took a small step back. But listening to Yu Botang speak of his deceased son, he felt a strange sense of familiarity.
It felt like he had seen him somewhere before, but he couldn’t remember.
A moment later, Old Master Yu spoke again with a serious, undeniable tone, advising earnestly:
“And regardless, Jiang Tianming is still part of your motherâs side. You will inevitably cross paths in business. If I pass away one day, youâll still need your uncle to guide you in the professional world. Some ties cannot be broken.”
“Fine, Grandfather, I understand. Today is your birthday; don’t talk about things related to death.”
Yu Xiuqing became impatient. He tilted his head and downed half a glass of red wine in one gulp. He said, “Xiaoyao specially prepared a piece for your birthday. Please listen well.”
Old Master Yu knew that young people couldn’t stand nagging, so he chose not to continue the lecture.
His dark gaze suddenly landed on the timid youth standing to the side. He saw him wearing an expensive suit, yet half of it was soaked in a messy red liquid.
The boy looked pathetic and lacked any sense of decorum!
Shen Yuan clearly felt the gaze. He was so scared he held his breath, burying his head as low as possible.
The anger Old Master Yu had just suppressed flared up again. He couldn’t understand why his proud grandson would keep such a useless thing by his side!
He shot a vicious glare at the youth and let out a cold snort. He exhaled sharply and barked:
“An eyesore!”
Shen Yuan looked down at his dirty clothes, feeling miserable to death. It wasn’t even his fault…
He tried hard to rub the stains off the suit, but they wouldn’t budge. He could only bite his lower lip sadly, his hands trembling at his sides, his eyes full of tears.
At that moment, a melodious piano tune drifted from the stage. The familiar melody made Shen Yuan temporarily forget his tears.
He slowly lifted his head, looking at the radiant, smiling Su Huaiyao sitting at the piano. He listened as the music he had composed himself flowed from the other’s fingertips.
The little fool felt as if something that belonged to him had been stolen. A sense of indignation and anger rose naturally in his heart.
Around him, the guests were full of praise: “This piece is simply perfect! As expected of a genius from a musical family! Talent really can’t be learned!”
“I didn’t expect such extraordinary skill at such a young age. Truly surprising!”
Even the usually stern Old Master Yu couldn’t help but let his lips curve upward. He agreed, “The mood of this piano piece is very special. It’s not just pleasant to the ear…”
“Xiaoyao has always been excellent.”
A flash of tenderness appeared in Yu Xiuqingâs eyes. But as he continued to listen, his calm expression suddenly darkened.
