Chapter 16 [The Little Beast Witnessed His Vulnerability]
Housekeeper Tao Shu was currently in the living room watching TV with the maids. The oversized LCD screen was like a wall. A comedy sketch was playing, and the actors’ humorous lines and vivid expressions had them roaring with laughter.
As long as You Yuanyuan was not sleeping at home at night, they were allowed to watch TV in the living room.
Just as they were laughing happily, Tao Shu saw Xing Lie’s tall figure walk in from the night, his arms carrying someone horizontally.
Yes, carrying someone horizontally.
Hmm?
Who?
Tao Shu shot up from his seat and shuffled over in his slippers. When he saw that the person being carried was You Yuanyuan, his eyes widened in shock.
He had never seen You Yuanyuan so unconscious before. An unnatural flush appeared on his cold, jade-white face. Those icy eyes were currently closed, eyelashes trembling slightly, and his brows were furrowed tightly, seemingly in great discomfort. He wasn’t asleep; he simply wasn’t entirely conscious.
“You Ye… is d-drunk?” Tao Shu asked Xing Lie in disbelief.
The maids watching TV turned it off, and the actors’ chattering, humorous dialogue abruptly ceased. The massive living room instantly became quiet.
In all the servants’ impressions, You Ye was always so powerful, high and mighty, and indestructible. Furthermore, whenever You Ye was at home, his attire was always meticulous, his posture perfectly straight, and his gaze proud and icy. It was as if he was born with a formidable aura capable of strategizing remotely and commanding the wind and rain.
Yet today, You Ye’s clothes were messy, he was unconscious, and in a hazy drunken state. He was even being carried back completely defenseless. He looked so soft and easily bullied.
…
The contrast was far too great, truly astonishing them, even causing some trepidation.
However, Xing Lie was unusually calm. Lowering his gaze, he looked down at You Yuanyuan in his arms from above. His gaze was like a wild beast looking at captured prey. With a mocking smile that wasn’t quite a smile in his eyes, he said in a frivolous tone, “Knowing perfectly well his alcohol tolerance is poor, he just kept drinking and drinking. I couldn’t even talk him out of it. If I hadn’t brought him back, who knows what would have happened to him.”
Tao Shu’s expression changed drastically. He knew You Yuanyuan had made many enemies and was constantly being glared at like a tiger watching its prey. At this moment, he didn’t know what to say. But the strange thing was, he couldn’t smell any alcohol on You Yuanyuan.
“Sigh, getting this drunk is so dangerous. You Ye obviously never touched a drop of alcohol before. Knowing he loses his composure when he drinks, why did he still drink?” As he spoke, Tao Shu reached out, preparing to take You Yuanyuan from Xing Lie’s arms.
But Xing Lie sidestepped to avoid him. His tone lacked the respect a junior should have for You Yuanyuan as he said, “He’s too heavy, you can’t carry him. Don’t throw your back out. I’ll take him up to his room.”
Tao Shu resentfully withdrew his hands, looking at Xing Lie in confusion. He couldn’t understand why Xing Lie would proactively bring him back.
Watching Xing Lie easily carry the person upstairs, he wondered if he should tell Secretary Zhou about this.
For the past few days, Xing Lie had suddenly moved back in. Truth be told, Tao Shu was still a bit unaccustomed to it. Although Xing Lie was his adopted son in name, there had never been any familial interaction between them. The two were not close.
Ten years ago, You Yuanyuan brought a 15-year-old Xing Lie back and registered his household under Tao Shu’s. At that time, he was in his thirties, had been married and divorced, and didn’t have a single child. Having an adopted son was fine with him; he was actually quite happy about it.
But Xing Lie was like a wolf that couldn’t be tamed. He never grew close to him, nor did he grow close to You Yuanyuan; to be precise, he wasn’t close to anyone. His personality was solitary and fierce.
At that time, as the housekeeper’s adopted son, and since the housekeeper lived in You Yuanyuan’s house, it was only natural that the adopted son also lived in You Yuanyuan’s house.
Xing Lie never called Tao Shu “Dad,” only “Uncle.” And he spent far less time with Tao Shu than he did with You Yuanyuan.
Back then, every day after Xing Lie finished school and came home, You Yuanyuan would take him out for grueling training, only returning at night covered in injuries and bruises. Moreover, Xing Lie had an unyielding personality and constantly provoked You Yuanyuan. Their relationship was like the point of a needle against an awl.
He remembered one time when Xing Lie got into a fight with a classmate at school. The homeroom teacher called You Yuanyuan to the school. After they returned home, You Yuanyuan taught Xing Lie a ruthless lesson.
For the next few days, Xing Lie didn’t speak to You Yuanyuan. Finally, during a meal, Xing Lie couldn’t hold back his grievance and exploded, “The teacher clearly said we were both at fault! It wasn’t just my fault, and I wasn’t the one who struck first! We even made peace, so why did you still have to teach me a lesson when we got home?!”
With a cold face, You Yuanyuan threw his chopsticks at Xing Lie’s face. His gaze was severe as he said, “I taught you a lesson because it’s you. I am not your parent! If you make a mistake at school, what right do you have to let the homeroom teacher call me over?! If you ever dare make me go to your school again, I’ll beat you just the same when you get back!”
Ever since that argument, Xing Lie lost whatever respect he originally had for You Yuanyuan as an elder. He began acting insubordinately and disregarding hierarchy.
Later on, the year Xing Lie turned 22, no one knew what conflict had occurred between him and You Yuanyuan again. In an angry blowout, they had a massive argument, and Xing Lie declared that even if he died, he would never move back here.
Then he moved out, transferred his household registration, and established his own independence. Now, three years had passed, and Xing Lie had suddenly moved back in.
But Xing Lie currently had no familial ties with anyone. He was no longer the housekeeper’s adopted son either. So under what pretense had he returned?
And why had You Yuanyuan allowed Xing Lie to move back in?
Tao Shu felt it was all incredibly strange and perplexing. Just the thought of these two living under the same roof and constantly fighting gave him a headache.
Xing Lie kicked open the door to You Yuanyuan’s bedroom and strode in with his long legs.
The bedroom windows were wide open, and the breeze from the forest, carrying the fresh scent of leaves, blew in. The beige curtains swayed, and the outer layer of sheer netting fluttered upwards, dancing lightly as if moving with the wind.
The blanket on the bed had been laid perfectly flat by the maids, and the white mink rug on the floor was impeccably clean, soft, and comfortable. The entire style of the bedroom stood in stark contrast to You Yuanyuan’s icy personality.
You Yuanyuan’s eyes opened slightly at some point, seeing the familiar bedroom, and also seeing… the sharp lines of Xing Lie’s jaw. He didn’t realize he was currently being carried by Xing Lie, but he did realize that Xing Lie was in his room, giving him a strong sense of danger. His voice was somewhat low, lacking its usual imposing presence as he cursed, “Little beast… get the hell out…”
The corners of Xing Lie’s lips curled up slightly. Walking to the side of the bed, he cast a sidelong glance at You Yuanyuan. Wickedly, he tossed him onto the bed.
Thrown onto the beige bed, You Yuanyuan’s slender and beautiful figure was fully displayed—broad shoulders, narrow waist, perky rear, and long legs. He looked like a perfectly proportioned character figurine.
His eyes were closed, his body curled up slightly, and his pale skin still carried a red flush, like a cooked shrimp.
Xing Lie looked down at the drunkard on the bed, his eyes holding a mocking, teasing glint. This kind of You Yuanyuan was so fragile that anyone could bully him; it seemed as if any random Alpha could forcibly mark him.
Xing Lie’s gaze lingered on You Yuanyuan’s face and body for a long time before he finally withdrew it with a tense expression. Seemingly suppressing some kind of emotion, he then revealed a look of disdain.
He disdained bullying a drunkard, much like a wild beast losing interest in playing with dying prey.
Xing Lie turned to leave. Just as he reached the door, he suddenly heard You Yuanyuan speaking. He turned to look.
You Yuanyuan had his back to the door, his body curling up smaller and smaller until he was curled up like a little shrimp. In a hoarse voice, he muttered, “Dad… please coax Mom, okay…”
“Why are you ignoring her, what did she do wrong…”
“Why don’t you love her…”
“Why… did you give birth to me…”
Xing Lie’s tall figure stood at the door, a fleeting look of shock flashing in his eyes. He seemingly couldn’t believe that the fragile person curled up in a ball, pitifully recalling painful memories, was actually You Yuanyuan.
If earlier, when he heard You Yuanyuan having a nightmare and recalling his painful past in the voice messages sent by Shi Yuefeng, he had only felt it was surreal and didn’t feel much deep emotion.
Then now, seeing it with his own eyes, the impact was truly quite significant.
In his impression, You Yuanyuan was formidable, tyrannical, as cold as frost, and high and mighty. He only ever thought about conquering those stronger than himself, never willing to admit defeat, and would never reveal a vulnerable side.
He was so powerful that he seemed like a massive block of iron; no sharp weapon could hurt him. He was invulnerable to blades and spears, immune to all poisons, and utterly unbreakable.
Yet today, he realized that You Yuanyuan had merely hidden himself inside a fortress of iron and bronze. His body was still made of flesh, and he too had moments of utter frailty.
But so what?
Xing Lie sneered. No matter how fragile You Yuanyuan was, no matter how vulnerable or pitiful, he would never feel sorry for him.
His own heart had long been tortured by You Yuanyuan into becoming just as cold and ruthless as him.
Just the thought that the cold and ruthless You Yuanyuan also yearned for love brought a despicable sense of satisfaction to his heart.
Xing Lie’s sharply defined, handsome features were highly aggressive. Those deep eyes were currently veiled in shadow, making the emotions within them hard to decipher.
With a bang, the door closed.
Xing Lie walked to his own bedroom on the second floor and closed the door.
His bedroom was located directly below You Yuanyuan’s.
Xing Lie walked out to the balcony, scanning the potted plants and flowers. From his pants pocket, he took out an unopened pack of cigarettes.
After lighting the first one, he couldn’t stop. He smoked one after another.
Watching the cold white moonlight pierce through the forest. The night wind picked up, and thousands upon millions of leaves began to rustle. The shadows of the trees danced gracefully. A hazy mist slowly wreathed through the woods, slumbering in the forest alongside the moonlight.
An entire pack of cigarettes was smoked.
Resting one hand on the balcony railing, Xing Lie executed a swift, agile vault, flipping from the second floor down to the ground. Supporting himself with one hand, he stood up entirely unscathed. He walked out of the villa and into the night.
There was a knock on the door of Shi Yuefeng’s apartment.
The assistant went to open the door and saw a stranger she didn’t recognize. He was incredibly tall; she had to tilt her head back to look at him. He was incredibly handsome, his entire body exuding an untamable, hostile wildness. Those eyes were so dangerous she felt afraid to even cast a second glance.
“I’m looking for Shi Yuefeng.” Xing Lie’s voice carried a heavy, magnetic tone.
The assistant asked cautiously, “A-are you a fan of his?”
“Bullshit fan. Tell him to get the hell out here.” Xing Lie furrowed his brows, clearly already out of patience.
The assistant trembled in fear. As if her rear was on fire, she hurried to call Shi Yuefeng out.
Ultimately, the assistant squatted by the door to stand guard, while Shi Yuefeng and Xing Lie talked in the living room.
Shi Yuefeng sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, leaning against the backrest. With a radiant smile, he said, “We agreed to see where his limits were in taking on thirty people after differentiating into an Omega. Why did you intervene?”
“His condition was clearly wrong; we couldn’t test his limits.” Xing Lie stood with his back to Shi Yuefeng, looking out the window.
Shi Yuefeng seemed somewhat dissatisfied. “If only you hadn’t shown up. I truly would have carried him home to enjoy.”
Xing Lie tilted his head slightly, his side profile sharply chiseled as if carved by a knife. His brow carried a cruel chill, and his voice was low and slightly hoarse: “You, the great acting emperor Shi, truly aren’t picky. You can actually get hard looking at an old thing.”
“You’re the only one who doesn’t like it. Plenty of people like him,” Shi Yuefeng reminisced about the looks You Yuanyuan had given him, an uncontrollable fire flaring in his lower abdomen. His gaze darkened. “Many Alphas in the outside world feared You Yuanyuan because he was a top-tier Alpha, and didn’t dare harbor any filthy thoughts about him. But once they find out he’s differentiated into an Omega, do you believe every single Alpha will want him? After all, that’s You Yuanyuan, an exquisite ice-mountain beauty. Who wouldn’t want a taste of him?”
“Moreover,” Shi Yuefeng added, “he is a rare S-grade Omega, and so incredibly formidable. Looking across all of Dongcheng, he’s probably the only one. Tell me, is that alluring or not? What Alpha wouldn’t dream of having him, of marking him? But no matter how formidable he is, he’s still just an Omega. Coveted by so many Alphas, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes something meant to be mounted, right?”
Before he could even finish his sentence, Shi Yuefeng’s neck was tightly gripped by a large hand. Instantly, his breathing was cut off, his face turned completely red, and he felt so terrible he couldn’t utter a single word.
Xing Lie’s face, mere inches away, was dangerous and gloomy. Choking Shi Yuefeng, his voice was very low, like a phantom: “He still has use value to me. If you dare leak this secret, I will ruin you!”
He released his grip. As if coming back to life, Shi Yuefeng gasped for air. Then, laughing until his shoulders shook, he said, “You coming all the way here just to find me right now, it couldn’t possibly be just to warn me about this, right?”
“How could I possibly tell anyone,” the redness on Shi Yuefeng’s face gradually faded. “I’m still waiting for you to finish using him and return him to me. If such an exquisite Omega became known to others, everyone would fight me for him, and then I wouldn’t get my share.”
Xing Lie looked at him mockingly. “Return him to you? Can you defeat him?”
Shi Yuefeng covered his aching, bruised neck, still smiling as he said, “I don’t need to defeat him. All I need to do is release my red wine pheromones to intoxicate him. So cute. Who would have thought the formidable You Yuanyuan would have such a terrible alcohol tolerance.”
Xing Lie gave him a malicious smile. The suppressive Glass Wood pheromones of an S-grade Alpha exploded in the living room like a bomb. With Xing Lie as the epicenter, it blasted out, penetrating every single crack and crevice.
The intensely cold and rigid metallic scent, pure and sharp, conducted heat like a boiling furnace, burning people in agonizing, suffocating pain. It also carried a powerful magnetic force, causing an ache that felt as if one’s internal organs were being shredded.
Shi Yuefeng’s smile froze on his face before contorting into a painful, agonizing expression.
[Author’s Note:]
[Shi Yuefeng acting spoiled: “Director~ I want to be Yuanyuan’s official pairing, swap Xing Lie out.”]
[Xing Lie kicks him flying with a single kick.]
