Chapter 28: A Flyer is Very Important
“…” Jiang Xu felt his leg being tightly hugged by two tiny hands. Although the little thing was quite cute, did he have to use him as a meat shield every single time?
“Cifu is being mean.” The little Cichong looked pitifully at Qingyu, his round eyes full of grievance.
“Come here.” Qingyu was quite angry. “Are you not listening to Cifu anymore?”
“Oh.” Xi realized his Cifu was truly angry. He hesitated for a moment before letting go of the leg he was hugging.
He slowly stepped out from behind Jiang Xu.
In a soft, milky voice, he said timidly, “Cifu, don’t be mad. Baobao is good.”
He walked slowly over to Qingyu on his short legs and raised his two tiny hands toward him. “Cifu, hug.”
Qingyu initially wanted to stay mad and scare him a bit, but his expression ultimately softened. He picked Xi up:
“You’re not allowed to run around on your own anymore, do you hear me?”
“En, en.” Xi nodded repeatedly, as if afraid Qingyu would spank him if he was even a second too slow.
“Lord Jiang Xu, good afternoon.” Only after scolding the little Cichong did Qingyu bow to Jiang Xu, his voice full of distant courtesy.
Jiang Xu remained silent; it wasn’t like he was some terrifying monster.
Forget it, he wouldn’t hold it against him.
After a thought, he said: “Good afternoon. Excuse me, do you know how to take the public flyer to Qingcao Street?”
Qingyu looked at Jiang Xu in confusion. This was considered the first time the Xiongchong had taken the initiative to speak to him.
Not only that, but he noticed the other spoke very politely.
“Gege, we’re going there too.” The little Cichong was thrilled when he heard the address Jiang Xu asked about.
He wrapped his arms around his Cifu’s neck, twisted his body to look at Jiang Xu, and asked, “Gege, together?”
Jiang Xu looked at the two bugs in surprise. Such a coincidence?
Qingyu was also somewhat surprised. He remembered when he was rescued before, the mall manager had been incredibly submissive and groveling to him; it was the first time he had seen the mall manager act like that.
This was enough to prove that his identity and background were not simple, so how could he live over there?
Qingyu really wanted to refuse, but… forget it.
He still owed the other a debt of gratitude, so he spoke up:
“If you don’t mind, you can come with us. The place we live is very close to Qingcao Street.”
Jiang Xu didn’t mind at all. “Thank you.”
Hm? Qingyu was extremely shocked inwardly. A Xiongchong saying thank you?
Weren’t they all arrogant and haughty, believing the entire Zerg race belonged to them?
“?” Jiang Xu noticed the other’s strange gaze and looked back.
Qingyu was so startled that he quickly shifted his gaze, looking at the little Cichong closest to him in his arms.
“Where did you go to get your face covered in dust again?” He shrank his hand into his sleeve and grabbed a section of the fabric to wipe the boy’s face.
“Didn’t go anywhere.” Xi shook his head, then rubbed his head affectionately against Qingyu’s neck. “I was with Cifu.”
“Acting good now?” Qingyu helplessly pinched the tip of his nose.
Jiang Xu watched the interaction between the adult and child. Just as he was pondering something, the public flyer arrived.
He followed the two bugs in front of him and boarded the vehicle.
The originally bustling public flyer suddenly fell dead silent.
Because they realized a Xiongchong had actually come aboard.
Ah—A Xiongchong, it’s a Xiongchong!
Jiang Xu froze for a moment. Feeling the gazes shooting over from all directions, he felt like he had entered a zoo.
Except, he was the animal inside the enclosure being stared at by the other bugs.
He glanced at Qingyu, who had already found a seat, and picked a single seat not too far but not too close to him to sit down.
Once Jiang Xu was seated securely, the flyer immediately started moving, as if it had been specifically waiting for him to settle in.
Listening to the whispers around him, he sighed.
The stares from these bugs were far too conspicuous. He tried his best to ignore them, but he still couldn’t brush them off entirely.
“Gege.” The little Cichong grabbed the handrail and stood in front of Jiang Xu, popping his little head out to look at him.
Jiang Xu withdrew his gaze from the window, turned his head to look at the little Cichong beside him, and ruffled his little head:
“What is it?”
“Cifu said we get off in two stops.” The little Cichong grabbed hold and tried to climb onto Jiang Xu’s lap.
Jiang Xu hurriedly supported the little Cichong with his hands, terrified that he might bump into something and get hurt.
“Gege, I want to sit with you.”
“Kiddo, you’re already sitting on me.” Jiang Xu chuckled softly and pinched Xi’s cheek.
He turned his head and glanced at Qingyu, noticing that the other didn’t stop him. He lowered his head and quietly asked Xi, “Did your Cifu let you come over?”
Asked this, Xi carefully peeked at Qingyu, then quickly turned back and whispered just like Jiang Xu, “Cifu doesn’t know, hehe, Gege, let’s keep it a secret.”
The smile on Jiang Xu’s face widened, his expression full of affection.
The kid was so tiny, shrinking his neck and acting sneaky while doing something “bad”—it was incredibly adorable.
It reminded him of the group of kids from the orphanage who used to crowd around him back in the day.
The two stops passed quickly, and Jiang Xu was the first to step off onto the platform.
He glanced at the information board right across from him and instantly saw the words “Qingcao Street” written on it.
Good, he had found his way back.
When he followed the two bugs onto another flyer, Jiang Xu experienced the feeling from the previous vehicle all over again.
On this ride, Xi did not sit with Jiang Xu.
Consequently, Jiang Xu didn’t pay much attention to them.
After getting off at Fangcao Street, he let out a deep breath. It seemed he really needed to get his own vehicle.
The feeling of being treated as a rare spectacle to be gawked at was something he never wanted to experience again.
Looking at his house not far ahead, Jiang Xu felt a sense of rebirth.
“Gege.”
“?” A flash of surprise passed through Jiang Xu’s eyes. He turned his head and saw that the adult and child had also gotten off here.
That truly was a coincidence.
He had thought the two of them had gotten off long ago.
“You live here too?” Jiang Xu patted Xi’s head. “What a coincidence.”
“En, en,” Xi said, pointing to the other end of the road. “My home is over there.”
Seeing Xi’s completely unreserved behavior, a strange feeling rose in Qingyu’s heart. He said, somewhat displeased, “Come here, we need to go home.”
Only after Xi obediently returned to his side and held his hand did he bow to Jiang Xu. “Lord Jiang Xu, we won’t disturb you any longer.”
The other party radiated an aura of resistance. Jiang Xu didn’t really have much of an opinion of Qingyu.
He nodded politely to him, then looked at the little Cichong beside him. “Goodbye.”
This time, it really was goodbye.
By the time Jiang Xu returned to his residence, it was well past lunchtime.
He didn’t plan on eating either and went straight to the study.
First Military District Conference Room.
Fei stood at the door and glanced up at the sky, wondering how that Xiongchong was doing right now.
He had left in such a hurry at the time; after dropping the other off at the commercial center, he had departed before they could even say goodbye.
“Major General Fei, what are you looking at?” Parker came out of the conference room and noticed Fei zoning out not far from the door.
He followed his gaze up to the sky, but there was absolutely nothing there.
Fei didn’t even spare him a glance. He turned around and walked straight toward his office.
“Hey, Major General, wait for me.” Parker’s face was full of question marks. He hadn’t said anything wrong, had he? Why did he feel like he had touched a raw nerve?
He glanced at Kenan, who was catching up from behind. “What do you think is up with Major General Fei today? He looks like he’s weighed down by heavy matters.”
“…” Kenan felt that the bug beside him was sometimes sharp as a tack, but other times acted like his brain was defective.
During the meeting today, when Admiral Lan was speaking, this guy actually showed no worry whatsoever.
He truly had an alarmingly big heart.
