After the Divorce, the Paranoid CEO Begs for a HE with His Life Chapter 67

Chapter 67: You Still Have to Be Obedient When You Should Be

“Oh my, sorry about that, I won again!”

At the mahjong table, Lu Huaishen rested his cheek on one hand, then helplessly laid down the tiles in front of him with the other.

He casually scanned the incredulous reactions of the few people beside him. His slightly up-turned eyes revealed a hint of slyness and amusement.

The bald man sitting opposite was clearly displeased. Spitting out the betel nut he was chewing, he wiped the sweat beading on his forehead with his hand. Seeing Lu Huaishen’s triumphant look, an invisible fury burned fiercely within him, and he yelled:

“How is your luck so good, kid?! How many times have you won now! No, I refuse to accept this. Let’s go again!”

Hearing this, Lu Huaishen scoffed and let out a lazy yawn. His voice was flat, with a slight nasal tone, making him seem even more laid-back:

“Hah~ come on, come on. No matter how many times we play, you guys still won’t be able to beat me. I’ll make you submit wholeheartedly.”

The bald man flipped all his mahjong tiles face down and glared viciously at the man speaking so arrogantly:

“Heh heh, what a big mouth for a young man! I don’t believe it today. With my years of mahjong experience and luck, how could I actually lose to you?!”

Liang Qinian, who had been standing silently by the table the entire time, finally couldn’t help but urge:

“Stop playing. How many rounds have you played already? Is there an end to this? As a doctor, shouldn’t you be at the hospital saving lives right now? And you actually have the time to come to a place like this for fun? What a waste of your refined looks.”

“Hold on. I don’t want to hear the word ‘scum’.”

Lu Huaishen shuffled the tiles randomly on the mahjong table with both hands. Behind his lenses, his narrow eyes sparkled with an unusually excited and expectant gleam as he said seriously:

“Today is my rare day off, so naturally, I have to take you out for a good time. For you, I even postponed my most important pharmaceutical research for a few days.”

Hearing this, Liang Qinian nearly had a stroke from anger, ready to grind his back molars to dust. But in the end, he swallowed most of his rage. Leaning one hand on the table, he enunciated word by word:

“Taking me out for a good time? Dr. Lu, are you joking? Don’t you think the current situation looks very much like you are the one having fun?”

He had stood here for a full two hours, just standing there the whole time, watching helplessly as this man played mahjong. He had waited so long he was about to grow mushrooms, and yet the other party actually had the nerve to call it “taking him out for a good time”?

If he hadn’t been forced into a corner, he wouldn’t want to spend a single second with Lu Huaishen. It was driving him crazy!

Meanwhile, this guy didn’t look like a doctor at all. He was simply a ruffian, playing to his heart’s content while completely forgetting about him. It was too much!

Suddenly exposed, Lu Huaishen’s hand movements paused slightly. His embarrassment lasted barely a few seconds before he reverted to his punchable “what are you going to do about it” demeanor. With a light chuckle, he said:

“Ahem, I invited you to join just now, but you refused. As my bodyguard, you have no choice but to accompany me; you aren’t allowed to go anywhere. Let me finish this last round, and then we’ll leave.”

“I have no desire to play this kind of thing.”

Liang Qinian glanced expressionlessly at the pile of mahjong tiles, crossed his arms over his chest, and warned, “Also, this better be the last round. Otherwise, I will drag you out of here by force, and I’m not joking.”

Lu Huaishen paid no mind to his threat whatsoever. He simply gave a faint curl of his lips and said with feigned surprise, “What? An employee is giving orders to the boss now?”

The other man snorted disdainfully and retorted without a care, “In ancient times, didn’t eunuchs have to wake the emperor? Would the emperor refuse to get up?”

“Are you a eunuch?”

The man sitting in the chair suddenly dropped this line, revealing more or less a teasing undertone.

Liang Qinian choked on his words, raging impotently inside. He cursed himself for essentially lifting a rock only to drop it on his own foot. He was completely played by this man!

He let his arms drop to his sides, lowered his head slightly to look at the man engrossed in discarding a tile, and said, “Play by yourself. I have no interest in staying here and wasting my time with you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he was about to turn around when his arm was suddenly grabbed by Lu Huaishen, who spoke in a commanding tone:

“Eighty million.”

The moment those words were uttered, Liang Qinian gritted his teeth, closed his eyes, and opened them again. Taking a deep breath to calm his emotions, he swiftly pulled his hand back. He helplessly halted his steps, wanting to say something, but couldn’t utter a single word.

If looks could kill, this man surnamed Lu would have likely died ten million times by now!

Without looking back, Lu Huaishen admired his excellent hand. Very satisfied with Liang Qinian’s reaction, his tone was extremely lighthearted yet carried a manipulative undertone as he said:

“Don’t be rebellious. You still have to be obedient when you should be.”

On the other side of the mahjong table, the bald man had been staring at Lu Huaishen for a long time. Pricking up his ears to carefully listen to their conversation, his facial expression shifted from confusion to gloom.

He wasn’t entirely sure of his own thoughts, just inexplicably feeling that the face before him looked somewhat familiar. He couldn’t help but ask:

“Hey, you, the one playing mahjong with the dog-shit luck… what’s your name? Let’s hear it.”

“Seeing as I’ve beaten you so many times, I’ll reluctantly tell you, so you can curse me properly when you get home.”

Lu Huaishen raised his eyebrows slightly, his voice carrying a shadowy trace of arrogance, “My surname is Lu. Lu Huaishen.”

“I knew it was you, you quack!”

The bald man abruptly stood up from his chair and swept the row of mahjong tiles in front of him onto the floor with a loud clatter. His features twisted with rage as he cursed wildly:

“They say your hospital’s medical skills are excellent, but all you do is cheat and deceive! You claim your medicine works, but I see you’re all just a bunch of freeloaders! A bunch of useless trash!”

This sudden roar and commotion startled the other players, who hurriedly stepped to the side.

Liang Qinian’s expression changed, his eyebrows raising in surprise at the bald man’s sudden shift. A highly dangerous feeling suddenly welled up in his heart, sensing that something wasn’t right.

He knew about this underground casino; the guests inside were either fugitives or had criminal records. Either way, they were not to be trifled with.

But why did the other party fly into a violent rage the moment he heard Lu Huaishen state his name?

Lu Huaishen, however, showed little emotion on his face. He simply retracted his smile and sat quietly in his seat. Tapping his fingers rhythmically on the tabletop, he surprisingly still had the interest to ask:

“Quack? Did you ask my name just to confirm my identity? Have I offended you? Or did our hospital not take good care of you?”

Hearing this, the man grew even more enraged. He pointed a trembling finger at him, his eyes looking as if he wanted to flay Lu Huaishen alive, rip out his tendons, and swallow him whole. He shouted:

“Stop playing dumb! Since it didn’t happen to you, you can sit there playing mahjong like nothing happened!”

Lu Huaishen habitually raised a hand to push up his glasses. A smile remained on his lips, though his gaze was somewhat cold. Looking at the man before him, he asked with righteous conviction:

“Then tell me, what exactly did our hospital do to you? Throwing out baseless accusations like this makes it hard for me to believe you’re truly a victim.”

“Do you dare say my wife dying on the operating table a month ago wasn’t due to your negligence?!”

The bald man’s eyes shot fire, glaring at Lu Huaishen with a murderous expression, half his body already leaning across the table.

As he spoke, the anger on his face suddenly extinguished for a moment, as if recalling the scene from back then. His eyes reddened, but no tears fell. His voice simply began to grow louder:

“She was perfectly fine before she went into the operating room! She could still say a few words to me. How did she come out as a corpse after the surgery?! Why!”

“Wait, your wife? Let me think…”

Lu Huaishen gently rubbed his forehead, capturing the appearance and scenario of that woman from a month ago from his memory. He involuntarily sat up straighter and said in realization, “Was her name Huang Yuemei? And it was a heart attack relapse, right?”

He had indeed taken on this critical surgery at the time, and he was Huang Yuemei’s chief surgeon. It wasn’t surprising that the husband knew the chief surgeon’s name.

“It’s a wonder you still remember my wife’s name!”

The bald man continued his tirade: “I went through hell to scrape together enough money for her surgery, and in the end, you took the money and didn’t even save her! What kind of bullshit doctor are you!”

The women hiding on the side watching the drama whispered among themselves:

“No way, which hospital is this? I need to avoid it. Are the doctors there that unreliable?”

Someone replied, “It seems to be the City Center First People’s Hospital. But I heard the doctors there are all returned from overseas, or highly experienced. How could this happen?”

Hearing their doubts, Lu Huaishen’s temples instantly began to throb again. Having finally come out to relax for once, he had to run into such an annoying situation.

He took a deep breath and said calmly, “Uncle, please calm down. Let your anger subside. To tell you the truth, your wife did indeed die on the operating table…”

Before he could finish his sentence, the bald man flew into a violent rage, slamming his hands fiercely against the table and roaring:

“I knew you did it on purpose! Your hospital definitely colluded to make sure I couldn’t find evidence to sue. Well, now I’ve recorded what you said! I’m going to sue you and make you pay for the damages!”

“No, can you let me finish speaking?”

Lu Huaishen stood up from his chair. His face rarely showed such a serious expression and a hint of guilt as he said:

“Your wife’s condition at the time was critical. Even if the surgery had been completed, she wouldn’t have survived for more than half an hour. Furthermore, her heart was no longer capable of withstanding a coronary artery bypass! We did our utmost, but we still couldn’t save her.”

The bald man’s fists cracked as he clenched them. “Excuses! It’s all excuses! Your hospital just takes money and doesn’t save people! Making up so many lies, who are you trying to fool?!”

Lu Huaishen: “This was not a medical accident. Besides, didn’t the hospital already show you all of the patient’s data a month ago? She was already fading before she even entered the operating room. Being able to speak to you was merely a terminal lucidity.”

The man didn’t believe it at all, even feeling he was fabricating nonsense, saying: “Stop explaining! You’re a bullshit doctor! Failing a surgery and only knowing how to shirk responsibility!”
