After the Divorce, the Paranoid CEO Begs for a HE with His Life Chapter 68

Chapter 68: Who Made Us So Destined For Each Other?

Hearing the bald man’s words, Liang Qinian frowned slightly. He couldn’t help but glance at the solemn-faced man beside him. It was the first time he had seen him rendered speechless. The corners of his mouth curved up slightly; he couldn’t help but find it somewhat amusing.

Lu Huaishen didn’t argue. Looking at the mental state of the bald man before him, who had completely descended into an unpersuadable state, he could only prepare to improvise at any moment.

In the next second, the bald man pulled a small knife from his pocket and aimed it at the two men in front of him. Boiling with murderous intent and with bloodshot eyes, he slowly walked around the table and snarled:

“I’m going to avenge my wife today! I’m going to kill you, you quack, so you can’t harm anyone else!”

Seeing the knife getting closer, Lu Huaishen didn’t hesitate to grab the youth, turn around, and run toward the door.

But the bald man, being closest to the main door, surprisingly turned and blocked the exit. His sinister expression was chilling, and the sharp knife in his hand glinted with cold light as he said:

“Want to run? Where to? Neither of you are leaving here alive today! I’m going to kill you both!”

Hearing this, Liang Qinian felt a surge of unwarranted anger. He lowered his voice and complained, “Why does your business have to involve me? I’ve really been screwed over by you…!”

Lu Huaishen raised an eyebrow dismissively. His eyes, as bright and black as gemstones, shone brilliantly under the light.

The slight curve of his lips, however, carried a trace of wicked charm and laziness, making his entire being exude a dangerous and aloof aura. Yet, he still teased verbally, “What do you call this? Sharing hardships together. Who made us so destined for each other?”

Liang Qinian scoffed coldly and adopted a defensive posture. His eyes fixed intently on the doorway as he said in utter exasperation:

“Dr. Lu, running into you is my bad luck!”

The moment the words left his mouth, the bald man lunged at them with his knife. Judging by his stance, he wouldn’t rest until he had hacked them both to pieces and ended their lives.

Immediately after, Liang Qinian pressed his lips into a tight line. As the knife neared them, a glint of coldness flashed in his eyes. His body shifted slightly, and he nimbly dodged the attack.

With swift reflexes, he grabbed the bald man’s arm and twisted it forcefully. A crisp crack of breaking bone rang out, and the knife’s owner let out a heart-wrenching scream.

Driven by momentum, the bald man face-planted directly onto the floor. He looked like a piece of meat thrown onto a chopping board waiting to be slaughtered, his entire body trembling from the pain!

His obese physique made it difficult for him to get back up immediately, and the knife had been flung far away.

Seeing this, Lu Huaishen, standing to the side, widened his eyes slightly, feigning an expression of disbelief. Even his own wrist throbbed with inexplicable sympathetic pain. He clicked his tongue in praise:

“Impressive, impressive! As expected of the bodyguard I chose.”

Liang Qinian immediately opened the door, turning a deaf ear to his half-genuine praise. Taking a step forward, he urged:

“Shut up. Stop spouting nonsense. If you want to live, hurry up and follow me! This is their territory. If things blow up later, no one is leaving!”

Hearing his words, an involuntary smile surfaced on Lu Huaishen’s lips. His voice carried a trace of indulgent gentleness:

“Alright, alright, alright. Bodyguard Liang is thoughtful as expected. Being beside you really makes me feel safe.”

Just as he stepped forward, a hand suddenly grabbed his ankle with immense force. Lu Huaishen’s expression changed, his previously frivolous gaze instantly turning sharp.

Without time to react further, he hastily pulled an anesthetic syringe from his pocket, backhanded a jab into the relentlessly clinging arm, and injected all the liquid inside.

Before he could even shout a single word, the bald man uncontrollably slipped into a deep coma.

The youth’s urging voice came from ahead: “What are you doing? Hurry up! People will be here any minute.”

“Coming, coming!”

Lu Huaishen hurriedly responded. He then grabbed the youth’s wrist without explanation and dragged him forward at a run.

The other party was clearly unaccustomed to this sudden physical contact and struggled to pull his hand back, saying, “Why are you dragging me? I can walk myself.”

Sensing his resistance, Lu Huaishen subconsciously tightened his grip. His eyes vigilantly scanned their surroundings, while he convincingly spouted nonsense, “There are so many people here, it’s too dangerous. We won’t get separated if we hold hands.”

Liang Qinian was forced to quicken his pace, his expression one of extreme reluctance. He wanted to retort, but out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught sight of an open private room not far away. Surprised, the words died in his throat.

From his current angle, he had an unobstructed view of a thin, somewhat familiar back kneeling before a tall, slender man.

He wasn’t sure who the back belonged to, but with just one glance at the man’s profile, he instantly recognized him—it was Ji Songting! Could the person kneeling on the floor be…

Could it be Jian An?!

Why would the two of them be in a place like this?!

At this moment, he couldn’t describe his feelings. He was somewhat agitated, yet also felt conflicted and bewildered.

Shouldn’t Jian An be recuperating in the hospital? Was he forced to be discharged? How could his body withstand that…

Liang Qinian’s gaze remained fixed on the entrance of that private room, his footsteps involuntarily slowing down.

He wanted to go over and take a look, but the annoying man beside him did not let him have his way. He forcibly dragged him hurriedly through the crowd, even kindly reminding him:

“Don’t stop, someone is chasing us.”

Sure enough, not long after the bald man went down, several guys wielding stun batons rushed out after them.

Hearing this, Liang Qinian had no choice but to temporarily abandon his idea. He was dragged around by the man, hiding back and forth throughout the underground casino until they finally took the elevator back to the surface.

Night engulfed the city. The north wind howled past their ears, and the dim yellow streetlights feebly illuminated the silent, deep alleyway.

Liang Qinian rested his hands on his knees, panting heavily. Even though he had a habit of working out and taking morning runs, running straight from the remote underground casino to the center of the suburbs—a full ten kilometers—still left him physically exhausted.

He looked up to the sky to take a few breaths of fresh air. Leaning one hand against the iron pole of the streetlight, he panted out brokenly:

“In the future… I… I am never coming to this kind of… place with you again. It’s too exhausting.”

“Hahahahaha—!”

Lu Huaishen leaned directly against the pole. His figure appeared half in light and half in shadow under the pale yellow glow, the contours of his side profile clean and sharp. Yet, he laughed with unbridled abandon.

Seeing that this man was completely unafraid and could actually still laugh, anger immediately clogged Liang Qinian’s chest. He rubbed his chest to soothe himself, barely preventing a stroke from pure rage.

He stood up straight, lingering fear in his voice as he said:

“What are you laughing at? Thankfully, those people didn’t really want to do anything to us, turning back after a short chase. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to handle them alone!”

Lu Huaishen shoved his hands into his pockets and turned his head to face him. His eyes curved slightly in a half-smile as he said slowly:

“What are you afraid of? You still have me, don’t you? Did you think I’m a pharmacist for nothing? I can casually mix up some chemical agents to permanently cripple someone for the rest of their life.”

Hearing this, a chill ran down Liang Qinian’s spine, and he instinctively swallowed. He suddenly felt that those eyes harbored a weapon capable of dealing a fatal blow at any moment.

Feigning composure, he stepped back slightly and said:

“Is medicine something you can just use casually?”

“Of course not, otherwise why would I be a doctor.”

Lu Huaishen’s voice was calm and decisive. He then took off his jacket to relieve the heat.

Underneath, he wore only a thin shirt, with the top two buttons undone, revealing a firm, lean chest and sexy collarbones. A pair of black slacks wrapped around his long legs. His entire being exuded an indescribable wicked charm.

Liang Qinian subconsciously avoided his soul-hooking gaze. His ears suddenly turned red, and he looked away with a hint of panic before asking in confusion, “Huh?”

The other man seemed to catch the anomaly on his face and gave a soft chuckle. Then, his eyes suddenly darkened, as if recalling something distant yet unforgettable. He said calmly:

“But sometimes, keeping it for self-defense is much better than being powerless and getting killed.”

Liang Qinian felt that this statement sounded somewhat strange, but upon careful thought, there was nothing wrong with it. He couldn’t help but fall silent.

“Oh, right. When we were in the underground casino, your eyes kept darting in a certain direction, even though the people chasing us were clearly behind us. So what exactly were you…”

Lu Huaishen paused ambiguously, suddenly leaning in close. His eyes narrowed slightly, refusing to miss any abnormality on Liang Qinian’s face. He then raised an incredibly ambiguous smile and asked:

“What were you looking at?”

At such a close distance, he could even feel the other man’s warm breath. Liang Qinian’s heart grew uncontrollably nervous as he replied awkwardly, “N-Nothing.”

But the man clearly didn’t believe his excuse, pressing on, “Nothing? Your eyes were practically glued there, and you even stopped running. What could have fascinated you so much?”

Liang Qinian truly couldn’t stand this close-range scrutiny. That piercing gaze made him feel as if he had absolutely no privacy left.

He then raised a hand and gave Lu Huaishen a push. Turning to face forward, he didn’t plan to hide it either, telling the truth: “I saw Jian An on our way being chased.”

“What? Mr. Jian?”

Lu Huaishen was slightly surprised. His fingers intentionally or unintentionally stroked his jaw as he said, “Why would he be in the underground casino… Ji Songting should have been there too, right?”

Before Liang Qinian could speak, he instantly caught on to something else and asked curiously:

“Wait, you know Mr. Jian?”

Liang Qinian nodded, giving a soft ‘mm’, and said, “We were classmates in high school.”

The man standing beside him raised an eyebrow thoughtfully. His seemingly placid tone carried a microscopic trace of sourness:

“Well then, this classmate relationship must be quite something~”

Liang Qinian didn’t catch his meaning, nor did he intend to explain. He just asked his own question:

“I saw him kneeling in front of Ji Songting. But why? Isn’t Jian An the Madam of the Ji family? Even if Ji Songting doesn’t like him, there’s no need to treat him like that, right?”
