Chapter 39: But Chen Wei Was the Exception
Han Chi wasn’t entirely sure what had transpired between Chen Wei and Jiang Chuan at the hotel.
However, seeing the way Jiang Chuan guarded Chen Wei’s overcoat—like a protective mother hen with her chick—and hearing his solemn vow of loyalty, Han Chi raised an eyebrow in surprise after a brief moment of shock.
On second thought, it was just a coat; it wasn’t exactly going to move mountains. He decided to just let it be.
Chen Wei only realized Zhou Sijin was following him when he turned to enter the elevator.
Zhou Sijin’s legs belonged to him; Chen Wei couldn’t control where he walked. Moreover, they were in public. If he provoked Zhou Sijin and caused a scene, it wouldn’t do him any favors.
Zhou Sijin successfully slipped into the elevator just before the doors slid shut. He stood firmly beside Chen Wei, reaching out habitually to pull the man closer.
The day’s events had already left Chen Wei physically and mentally exhausted. He couldn’t be bothered to resist Zhou Sijin’s sudden display of intimacy.
The two exited the elevator in silence.
Once inside the apartment, Chen Wei swapped his shoes and, without a word, headed straight for the bedroom.
Zhou Sijin followed close behind. However, as he passed through the living room, his peripheral vision caught the robot that Chen Wei had covered with a layer of white medical tape.
His footsteps faltered. Full of doubt, Zhou Sijin walked over. He reached out and peeled back the tape, and as expected, he saw the blinking red light beneath.
He activated the display screen and pulled up the home security program. In the long list of timestamped videos, the only period missing was the duration of the previous night.
He opened the recycle bin and, unsurprisingly, found the video Chen Wei had deleted.
His finger tapped “Restore.”
After a few seconds of loading, the words “Restoration Successful” popped up on the screen.
Zhou Sijin pulled his phone from his pocket. It contained an app specifically designed to control the robot. He located the video within the app and, without a moment’s hesitation, clicked “Save.”
He tossed the discarded tape into the living room trash can and turned toward the bedroom.
Chen Wei was nowhere to be seen in the room, but the sound of running water drifted from the bathroom.
Zhou Sijin followed his usual routine, stripping off his clothes and changing into his pajamas. He walked to the bathroom door and grasped the handle, giving it a gentle twist.
“…”
The locked bathroom door offered clear resistance. The handle refused to budge under the pressure of his palm, the slight indentation left on his skin seemingly mocking his overestimation of himself.
Zhou Sijin paused, and as the reality of the situation dawned on him, he couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle.
Banging on the door and shouting wasn’t his style. In the three years he had been with Chen Wei, if he remembered correctly, this was the first time the man had ever locked the door while showering.
It was different from earlier in the car when they were in a cold war, neither speaking to the other. Regarding Chen Wei’s petty act of defiance in locking the door, Zhou Sijin actually didn’t feel particularly hurried.
He leaned his back against the adjacent wall, crossing his arms over his chest. His gaze shifted lazily to the tightly shut bathroom door.
Finally, with a click, the bathroom door opened just a crack.
Zhou Sijin’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Chen Wei was completely oblivious to the approaching danger. He was busy using a towel to meticulously dry his damp hair.
Suddenly, his body was swept up.
Chen Wei’s vision blurred. Before he could even react, he was tossed onto the soft, large bed. In the next second, a familiar silhouette pressed down over him.
Coming straight out of the shower, combined with the heat from the apartment’s floor heating, Chen Wei hadn’t immediately put on his pajamas for the sake of comfort. His white bathrobe was partially open, revealing beautiful collarbones and pale, firm legs without a hint of excess fat.
Zhou Sijin pinned Chen Wei’s thighs down, shackling him completely. He lightly pinched Chen Wei’s chin with his thumb and forefinger, looking down at him with an intrigued gaze.
“Locking the door?”
Chen Wei didn’t want to acknowledge him, let alone speak. He raised his hand to push the man away, only for his wrist to be caught in a vice-like grip.
Zhou Sijin’s strength was extraordinary. The moment Chen Wei showed any intent to struggle, Zhou Sijin pinned both of his hands back against the bed in one swift motion.
Chen Wei lay spread-eagled on the bed, his legs held firmly in place by Zhou Sijin. The immense disparity in strength forced him to look up and meet Zhou Sijin’s gaze.
“Let me go,” Chen Wei said tonelessly.
Zhou Sijin arched an eyebrow with calm composure. He didn’t speak; he simply increased the pressure on the man’s wrists.
Chen Wei felt a wave of powerlessness wash over him. His body was already running on empty after skipping dinner; how could he possibly withstand this kind of torment from Zhou Sijin?
Abandoning his plan to struggle, Chen Wei let his body go limp and closed his eyes with a weary sigh.
“What exactly do you want to do?”
Sensing the change in Chen Wei’s body, Zhou Sijin instinctively lightened the pressure on him. Though he still held him captive, he gave him a bit of room to move.
He lowered his head to nip at Chen Wei’s lips, speaking in a soft, gentle whisper.
“The foreign brand Aurora Aria is looking for a brand ambassador in the Asia-Pacific region. I’ve already contacted them for you. They should call you in a couple of days to invite you to their shooting base.”
“?”
Chen Wei opened his eyes, his face filled with confusion.
Aurora Aria was the world’s most high-end luxury jewelry brand, with nearly a century of history since its founding. He was just an unranked, thirty-eighth-tier minor star with no major works to his name. Asking him to endorse such a brand—wasn’t that just throwing him into a pit of fire?
He wouldn’t even need enemies to take him down; the spit from netizens alone would drown him.
But Zhou Sijin, who didn’t navigate the entertainment industry, had no idea about these complexities. He only knew that his previous deliberate neglect had inadvertently hurt Chen Wei’s feelings, and now his conscience had flared up, driving him to make amends.
“I’ve also spoken to the executives at Yuchuan Film and Television. Barring any surprises, a batch of scripts will be delivered to you in a few days. You can pick a few you like.”
He continued to nibble at Chen Wei’s lips. Though his speech was slightly muffled, his words were full of sincerity.
“I don’t understand the entertainment industry that well, but Xingyao Media isn’t suitable for you. Once you sign the termination papers with them, I’ll have someone set up another company. You will be the only top-tier artist in that company.”
…
Zhou Sijin went on and on, discussing everything from endorsements and scripts to exclusive interviews and variety shows. Even more absurdly, he wanted to open a media company specifically for Chen Wei.
As a celebrity, anyone should have been grinning ear to ear with such a massive influx of resources.
But Chen Wei was the exception.
