Chapter 7: How About I Invite You to Be My Exclusive Model?
The person in charge didn’t arrive very quickly.
When he received the call from Xin Xing’s manager, he was still accompanying Zhou Sijin on his inspection.
It wasn’t easy for the big boss to come here, and no one wanted to miss the opportunity to show off, not even a small supervisor like him.
Because of this, being suddenly called away by a phone call from Xin Xing’s manager, this supervisor’s face carried a clear look of displeasure.
“Why are you calling so suddenly?”
The manager didn’t explain the situation directly but asked in a low voice to test the waters, “Cousin, you’re sure that A-L’s brand spokesperson this time is our Xin Xing, right?”
The supervisor, called “Cousin,” looked impatient. “Isn’t it already written in the contract handed to you?”
The manager didn’t show the slightest bit of unhappiness at his attitude; instead, he let out a very obvious sigh of relief after the man finished speaking.
“That’s good then.”
“What happened?” The supervisor, being able to mix in his current position, wasn’t a fool and immediately smelled something wrong in the question.
The manager turned his gaze toward Finn, who was currently coordinating clothes for Chen Wei, and said:
“Do you know that designer’s background?”
The supervisor frowned. “I heard he returned from abroad. I don’t know his background, only that he took the position of the company’s Chief Designer the day he arrived.”
He smiled maliciously. “Maybe he climbed up through some nepotism.”
After he spoke, the two looked at each other, both seeing the slightly vulgar smiles on their own faces reflected in the other’s eyes.
The manager sneered. “And he thinks he can take away an endorsement that is within our Xin Xing’s reach?”
“What do you mean?” the supervisor countered.
Only then did the manager recount everything that had just happened in the studio to his supervisor cousin, adding plenty of inflammatory details.
He thought his cousin would show some reaction after hearing this news, but instead, he saw him knit his brows in displeasure.
“You really don’t know how to pick your time. Why did this have to happen exactly when the big boss is inspecting the company?”
“The big boss?” A bad premonition suddenly rose in the manager’s heart.
For some reason, he associated this with the “high-level executive” the assistant mentioned who wanted to see Chen Wei.
Could it be that coincidental?
But he quickly dismissed the guess in his heart.
If there were really someone behind Chen Wei, how could he have stayed at the thirty-eighth-tier level in the entertainment circle for so many years?
But he still couldn’t figure out why an A-L executive would name Chen Wei specifically to see him.
If anyone was to be seen, it should be their Xin Xing!
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration hit the manager’s head.
Could it be that the assistant misunderstood the instructions from above and found the wrong person?
He followed up by asking, “Cousin, do you know what Chen Wei’s background is?”
The supervisor who was asked gave him a strange look.
“You’re asking me about someone from your entertainment circle? How should I know?”
Hearing this, the manager breathed another sigh of relief. Since even his cousin didn’t know the reason for Chen Wei’s presence here, didn’t that just prove that Chen Wei had no one behind him?
Perhaps that assistant really had found the wrong person.
The manager started to get some ideas and began to inquire: “Cousin, who is the big boss you mentioned?”
“Of course it’s Zhou…” Halfway through, the supervisor realized he had let something slip and suddenly looked at his cousin warily.
“Why are you asking so much? You don’t intend to… do you?”
It wasn’t the first time the two had done such a thing; they only needed one look to understand each other’s meaning.
Glancing at Xin Xing behind him, the supervisor smiled wickedly. “You sure are bold… you dare to climb into anyone’s bed?”
Climbing into a company Vice President’s bed wasn’t enough; now they wanted to climb onto Zhou Sijin.
The supervisor rolled his eyes, calculating the benefits Xin Xing climbing into the big boss’s bed could bring him.
The manager tactfully pulled a card from his wallet and stuffed it into his hand.
“Cousin, help me out.”
Fearing he wouldn’t take the bait, the manager immediately followed up with an incentive:
“Once our Xin Xing climbs into that big boss’s bed, could there be any lack of benefits for you, Cousin?”
“Fine.” The supervisor tucked the card away. “Then I’ll think of a way.”
The supervisor left, and the manager returned to Xin Xing’s side.
Xin Xing looked anxious. “Brother Yu, what did he say? Do I really have to be a foil for Chen Wei?”
The manager, called Brother Yu, reached out and patted his shoulder to comfort him:
“Don’t worry, I’ve already made arrangements. When the time comes, let alone a brand spokesperson, it shouldn’t be a problem even if you want to be a global spokesperson.”
Xin Xing was simply incredulous. “Really?”
Yu Shan nodded, leaned into Xin Xing’s ear, and informed him of his plan bit by bit.
Hearing the plan, Xin Xing’s eyes brightened a notch, and his tone was excited:
“Brother Yu, can this really work?”
Yu Shan was full of confidence. “Eight or nine times out of ten.”
Chen Wei was completely unaware of their scheming.
From the moment he agreed to Finn’s request, he had been pulled by Finn to try on several more sets of clothes and take several more sets of photos.
No matter which set it was, the results made Finn extremely satisfied.
He gripped Chen Wei, as if he had discovered some treasure, and refused to let go for a long time.
Looking at him, it was as if he had completely forgotten about Xin Xing’s existence.
He chattered excitedly, “Chen Wei, how about I invite you to be my exclusive model?”
Chen Wei was startled.
Finn said, “Don’t worry, I won’t let your efforts go to waste.”
He patted his chest and promised with an air of certainty, “In the future, I’ll take care of all the clothes you wear for red carpets and events.”
Chen Wei looked at Finn in front of him and asked a question out of the blue, “Are you a Chinese citizen or a foreigner?”
“Huh?” Finn was stunned by the question. “Does that have anything to do with you being my exclusive model?”
Did Chen Wei have a bias against foreigners?
Chen Wei shook his head.
As an artist, he had more things to consider than Finn did.
He was endorsing A-L; as A-L’s brand ambassador, there was naturally no problem with wearing A-L’s clothes for events.
But if the day truly came when he had to leave Zhou Sijin, he would inevitably have to cut all ties related to Zhou Sijin.
That included the A-L endorsement.
At that time, it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to wear clothes made by an A-L designer.
If Finn were a foreign national, he wouldn’t be restricted by Zhou Sijin.
At that time, he could dig Finn away from Zhou Sijin without any pressure and have him be his personal designer.
But he couldn’t say these things to Finn now, so he just made an excuse:
“I’m just a bit curious; you look a bit like you’re mixed-race.”
Although Finn had the appearance of a Chinese person, his deep brow bone and high nose bridge couldn’t lie.
Upon hearing this, Finn laughed loudly and explained to him:
“I am Chinese! But my mommy is mixed-race! So I inherited a bit of her genes.”
As if afraid he wouldn’t believe him, Finn pulled out his ID card from somewhere and handed it to him:
“Are you relieved now? I really am a Chinese national!”
