Chapter 125: Did You Inflict a Gu on Him?
The news of Li Xuanyue’s return to the Phoenix Clan spread to the ears of the five Shi Jun in less than fifteen minutes.
“Young Master, should we head over now?”
Chang Jian lifted the teapot and poured a cup of tea, placing it before Jun He.
Jun He reached out and took the cup, his movements slow. “Wait for now.”
Chang Jian blinked in confusion.
Jun He then provided his reasoning. “At this moment, the Gongzhu likely has no time to see us privately.”
Jun He was exactly right.
The first thing Li Xuanyue had to face upon her return was Hua Shan; she had no spare time to pay attention to them.
At this moment, seated high on the dais, Hua Shan stared at Li Xuanyue as she knelt on the floor with a stoic expression. He did not speak immediately, instead signaling for the attendants to withdraw.
Only when the father and daughter were alone in the hall did Hua Shan finally open his mouth.
“Do you know how angry I am?”
When Hua Shan spoke, a trace of fury still lingered in his eyes. However, seeing Li Xuanyue’s sullen, silent appearance, he ultimately suppressed his temper.
“Speak. What exactly were you thinking?”
Hua Sang was his man, after all.
As a member of the younger generation, she not only lacked the basic awareness of her position but had actually dared to meddle in this affair. Did she truly believe that because he doted on her, he wouldn’t dare touch her?
“My father has his own thoughts, his own preferences, and a place where he truly wishes to be.”
Since Hua Shan wanted her to speak her mind, Li Xuanyue naturally wouldn’t hide it. She vented her thoughts directly to his face.
“This is not where he wants to stay. I am merely acting according to my heart, allowing him to live the lifestyle he desires.”
Hua Shan was nearly driven to a cold laugh by her words. His expression turned grim in an instant.
“Are you implying that I am the one imprisoning him in the Phoenix Clan?”
Li Xuanyue didn’t answer, but her silence was the best response.
Bang!
Furious, Hua Shan slammed the table and stood up.
“Fine, fine, fine! You are truly capable. Worthy of being Ben Hou’s ‘good’ daughter.”
“But do you know that once your father leaves my side, he will die?”
Hua Shan’s face suddenly became distorted and terrifying. Compared to his usual noble and magnanimous demeanor, he seemed like an entirely different person.
Li Xuanyue’s eyes filled with doubt and incomprehension.
Seeing this, Hua Shan decided to stop hiding the truth and spoke plainly.
“The reason your father is in a coma is partly because he lost a portion of his red crown, and partly because his body contains a Gu.”
“A Gu?”
Li Xuanyue murmured the word, stunned by Hua Shan’s revelation.
Hua Shan didn’t look at the expression on her face and continued, “If he wants to recover, my blood must be used to suppress it.”
Something clicked in Li Xuanyue’s mind, and she suddenly fixed her gaze on Hua Shan.
“Was it you who inflicted the Gu on him?”
Hua Shan did not deny it. “I simply want him to be unable to leave me for the rest of his life.”
“Now do you understand why he cannot leave my side?”
Li Xuanyue’s eyes brimmed with tears. She felt that Hua Shan had truly gone mad to do something so irrational.
“I’m afraid your wish is destined to fail,” Li Xuanyue said mockingly.
Hua Shan frowned.
Li Xuanyue avoided looking at his heartless face and said slowly, “I believe that even if it means death, my father would never return to your side.”
“You!”
Hua Shan was rendered speechless by her retort, able only to glare at her with eyes full of resentment.
Just then, Xiao Ce entered from outside, interrupting the conversation between father and daughter.
Xiao Ce glanced at Li Xuanyue before approaching Hua Shan and whispering in his ear.
“Is what you say true?”
Li Xuanyue couldn’t hear what Xiao Ce said, but watching Hua Shan’s face grow darker by the second, she knew.
Xiao Ce must have discovered that the person they brought back wasn’t Hua Sang. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be staring at her with such a grim expression.
“Very well, I understand. You may leave.”
Hua Shan adjusted his emotions remarkably well.
As Xiao Ce turned to leave, he cast one last look at Li Xuanyue. Once again, the vast hall contained only the father and daughter.
“Luring the tiger from the mountain?”
Hua Shan uttered these words before fixing a sharp gaze on Li Xuanyue.
“You let Li Lan take him away?”
His tone was certain, but his dark eyes looked like a powder keg ready to explode.
Seeing that he knew the truth, Li Xuanyue nodded. “I did indeed let Li Lan take him.”
“However… as for where Li Lan will take him, that I do not know.”
There was a distinct note of defiance in her voice.
“Nonsense!”
This time, Hua Shan was truly enraged. He raised his hand and delivered a harsh slap to her face.
“Do you even know what you’ve done?” he accused. “How could you let him leave this place!”
Li Xuanyue never dreamed Hua Shan would strike her. Perhaps because his kindness in her previous life was so deeply etched in her mind, she had assumed that no matter how rebellious she was, he would never blame her.
In truth, she had overestimated herself.
She lowered her gaze and did not make a scene. She only reached up to touch her left cheek. Instinct told her that Hua Shan had used his full strength; that side of her face was already starting to swell.
After striking her, Hua Shan noticed her fair cheek turning red and puffy. He felt a mixture of rage and guilt. In the end, he only uttered a single word—”Get out”—and ended the farce.
Li Xuanyue did not linger. As soon as he barked the order, she turned and left.
No one knew what Hua Shan had done to her, but when they saw her emerge from the Zhonghe Palace with a swollen left cheek, their eyes filled with shock.
They hadn’t expected the doting Hua Shan to actually strike her. To hit her so hard… it didn’t look like a father disciplining a daughter; it looked like he was striking an enemy.
Li Xuanyue ignored the gazes. Only Yin Xin, standing outside, felt her heart ache at the sight of the injury.
