Chapter 22: Have You Been Exposed?
Shi He’s dark, cold, and gloomy eyes looked over. His S-grade amber pheromones rose silently. His thin lips curled up in a faint smile. “A little.”
Every Alpha’s susceptibility period was violent and irritable. Turbulent pheromones would constantly crash around inside the body, erasing logic; in more severe cases, they would lose control completely.
Not to mention, he had been deliberately provoked by Han He’an this morning.
At this moment, Shi He looked remarkably stable, as composed as if he had already received a marking.
“It’s not very uncomfortable.”
Ruan Zhimian’s beautiful eyes lingered on the hearing aid by Shi He’s ear. His fingers hidden in his pocket trembled, and his heart felt a surge of muffled pain.
The main plot of the manga took place ten years later. After Shi He met the protagonist, he gradually resolved his inner knots and underwent surgery, becoming healthy again and no longer needing a hearing aid.
He wouldn’t get to see Shi He’s healthy appearance.
Just now outside the door, Qiuqiu told him that by investigating past records, they had found the specific reason.
In this world, the protagonist was the center with the strongest energy; the system and the protagonist could not appear together for too long.
Qiuqiu told him he had to speed up the completion of the task.
What he initially thought was a long time had begun its countdown. He had never spent so much time with one person, sending messages every day.
The “good baby” before him suddenly lowered his brow, his fingertips gripping the beige pocket until they turned slightly white. Very, very slowly, he pulled out a strawberry-flavored candy and handed it to Shi He.
“Eat this.”
He didn’t forget to say, “When class is over, I’ll go with you to the school clinic for a checkup.”
Shi He looked at the candy in his palm, silently clenching it. “Thank you, Zhimian.”
Shen Ziyu squeezed in. “Zhimian, I want one too.”
Ruan Zhimian fumbled and tossed one to Shen Ziyu, missing the deep, unreadable gaze Shi He cast upon him.
For the next class, Ruan Zhimian focused on spacing out.
This week, he had to break up, and at the Han family banquet next week, he had to complete the task of adding something to Shi He’s drink.
Shi He would encounter the protagonist Shou who was working there before he lost consciousness.
This incident would become the catalyst for them to meet again many years later. If Ruan Zhimian didn’t complete the task, he would be obliterated by the system.
At 11:00 AM, the two arrived at the school clinic.
Ruan Zhimian lifted his beautiful face. With watery eyes looking at Shi He, he made a mark on the checkup form, checking off all the relevant tests.
“I’ll wait for you.”
In front of the glass door, the Alpha with deep, cold features lowered his head. “Do I have to do all of them? Will it delay your business?”
The answer he received was a soft sentence: “Shi He, your health is the most important.”
Shi He went in for the checkup while Ruan Zhimian stood guard outside.
The round Qiuqiu appeared, rubbing against Ruan Zhimian. “Mianmian, there’s still some time before we leave. Don’t be sad.”
Ruan Zhimian squatted against the wall, his snowy forehead resting on his arms. He didn’t make a sound, only looking at his phone screen.
Drip.
A tear fell onto the screen.
“Qiuqiu, I… maybe I just don’t like partings.”
Ruan Zhimian only wrote a few words.
The usual rolling cat antics were gone, replaced by extreme coldness.
[Baby: Busy lately. I’ll contact you when I have time.]
The glass door opened, and the nurse stepped out first.
Shi He was putting on his jacket. Ruan Zhimian wiped away his tears, took the checkup form, and stood up to find the doctor together.
“No major problems. Pay more attention to rest; minor adverse reactions are normal.”
Ruan Zhimian chased the doctor with questions, even pulling out his ever-present small notebook to jot down the precautions, looking incredibly serious.
The doctor flipped through the pheromone concentration monitor that exceeded the limit. Thinking Ruan Zhimian and Shi He were a couple, he said, “I suggest that Alphas in their susceptibility period use a temporary marking. It’s more stable than medication.”
Ruan Zhimian didn’t understand, blinking his eyes.
Shi He gave a response, picked up his backpack, and stood up calmly. “Thank you, I understand.”
At 12:00 PM, the two walked out of the school clinic together.
Shi He pulled out his phone. “Zhimian, thank you for coming to the hospital with me. I just realized we haven’t added each other as friends yet. Can we add each other?”
The heart that had just halfway settled rose again.
Ruan Zhimian gripped his phone, his round eyes wide. He hid the phone behind his back bit by bit, taking his backpack from Shi He. “My phone is broken; I can’t add you now. I have something to do; I’ll add you after I get it fixed…”
“You go back and rest first. My friend is looking for me.”
Just then, Teng Yu’s flamboyant red sports car stopped by the road. The man himself was wearing sunglasses, looking cool and tugging at his red curls as he waved to Ruan Zhimian. “Mianmian, I’m here to pick you up!”
Ruan Zhimian escaped quickly, running to Teng Yu and pushing him into the car.
“Go, go, go!”
Teng Yu lowered his head, whispering gossipy, “Mianmian, have you been exposed?”
Ruan Zhimian shook his head. After getting into the car, he waved to Shi He on the roadside with a smile.
Acting completely natural, he went to buy a SIM card first.
As the red sports car vanished at the school’s back gate, Shi He pulled out his car keys and opened a black Bentley parked by the road.
His phone vibrated with a special contact notification.
Fifteen minutes ago, Ruan Zhimian had sent him a message.
The Alpha’s knuckles curved as he tapped the steering wheel. After reading it, his aura was dark and chilling, yet he was actually smiling. “Baby, are you finally going to break up with me?”
He quickly switched apps and pulled up a tracker.
Last night, Shi He had placed a tiny micro-tracker in the outer pocket of Ruan Zhimian’s backpack. His cold eyes landed on the location that was constantly moving forward.
Shi He dialed a friend’s number, speaking word by word. “In an hour, I’ll send you a location. Come over for a drink.”
Wen Song was dizzy. “For no reason—why are you drinking?”
“My wife is going to break up with me.”
“What? You got dumped?!”
…
On the Huajiang Bridge, the sports car hid within the flow of traffic, the black Bentley following relentlessly.
