Chapter 233
When Shen Shuyu arrived at the cafe, Chi Yanxun wasn’t there yet.
He wasn’t in a rush. He leisurely ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, waiting for Chi Yanxun to arrive.
Today was New Year’s Eve, but business at the cafe was still very good. Outside, a thin layer of snow blanketed the ground, and lanterns along with lucky knots hung from the streetlights and trees.
The New Year atmosphere in Amor was very strong. Ever since learning about certain things, Shen Shuyu had begun intentionally or unintentionally observing the people and things around him.
He wanted to recover the memories he had lost.
Unfortunately, he still couldn’t think too deeply about it.
However, Xiao 1 had mentioned that once he resolved the Luck System situation, the Master Mind would grant him one wish.
Could he ask the Master Mind to retrieve his missing memories then?
It wasn’t out of the question.
Shen Shuyu picked up the coffee beside him. He took a sip, and as he set it down, he happened to see Chi Yanxun walking in from outside.
Even in the heavy snow, Chi Yanxun only wore a thin overcoat. He looked impeccably elegant, but also very cold.
However, the man himself showed no signs of discomfort.
As expected of a top-tier Alpha; this cold resistance was leagues beyond ordinary people.
He entered the cafe, walked to the counter to order a coffee, and only then walked toward Shen Shuyu with a face full of smiles.
Chi Yanxun said, “Sorry, did I keep you waiting long?”
Shen Shuyu replied, “No, I just got here. We’re just out for a cup of coffee anyway, no need to be so tense.”
Chi Yanxun offered him a smile. “I’m very happy you asked me out.”
Looking at his demeanor, Shen Shuyu asked, “Won’t your uncle and aunt be angry that you came out like this?”
“They won’t,” Chi Yanxun said. “Many relatives came over today, but I’m not the main character. I just need to rush back in time for the reunion lunch.”
He asked in return, “What about you? Why aren’t you with your family?”
“They all went out for errands and won’t be back until noon. I was home alone and thought about coming out for some coffee.” Shen Shuyu gestured toward the coffee with his chin. “The coffee here tastes pretty good.”
Chi Yanxun smiled. “Is that so?”
Shen Shuyu hummed in agreement. “You’ve probably had it too, right?”
Just as he finished speaking, the waiter brought over his coffee. “President Chi, your coffee.”
Shen Shuyu raised an eyebrow slightly. “President Chi?”
Chi Yanxun chuckled. “I casually invested in this place when I was bored. I didn’t come here often, but hearing you say the coffee is good means my investment wasn’t a waste.”
Shen Shuyu gave an “Mn.” “Definitely not a waste. The cafe is in a great location, the prices are reasonable, and the key is that it tastes good. Business is booming. Sometimes I don’t even have the time to wait in line.”
Chi Yanxun looked around at the shop’s decor and said, “Whenever you want to drink coffee in the future, just come. Give them my name, and they’ll prepare it for you in advance.”
Shen Shuyu raised his eyebrow slightly. “Is this the boss’s privilege?”
“Yes,” Chi Yanxun said generously. “Drink as much as you want from now on, put it on my tab.”
“Alright then, I’ll thank President Chi in advance.” Shen Shuyu picked up his coffee.
Chi Yanxun picked up his own as well. The two lightly clinked their cups and each took a sip.
With lowered eyes, both of them hid the imperceptible undercurrents swirling in their gazes.
After finishing their coffee, the two stepped out of the cafe. This could be considered a rare occasion where they met peacefully without any major emotional fluctuations.
Shen Shuyu had intended to leave, but Chi Yanxun suddenly suggested, “There’s a mall up ahead. Want to take a walk together?”
Shen Shuyu glanced at the watch on his wrist. “Sure.”
The two strolled leisurely into the mall.
There were a lot of people in the mall right now. On New Year’s Eve, everyone came out with their friends and family to stroll around and relax.
Chi Yanxun led Shen Shuyu straight to the fifth floor. The fifth floor housed luxury boutiques. Although there were still shoppers, the crowd was noticeably thinner.
Shen Shuyu didn’t understand what Chi Yanxun wanted to do until Chi Yanxun brought him to the entrance of a certain luxury jewelry store.
He looked up slightly. It was the same chain store where he had previously bought a gift for Shen Yisi.
What was Chi Yanxun bringing him here for?
Shen Shuyu was puzzled, but he didn’t say anything. He followed Chi Yanxun inside. The store manager had been expecting them, immediately inviting them to sit in the VIP lounge.
A staff member served floral tea. After they left, Chi Yanxun placed a jewelry catalog in front of Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu didn’t understand what he meant.
Chi Yanxun said, “I lost the gift you gave me last time. I want to give you one back. Take a look and pick whatever you like.”
Shen Shuyu remembered now. If Chi Yanxun hadn’t brought it up, he would have forgotten about it entirely.
Shen Shuyu looked up, just about to speak, when he suddenly noticed a flash of red light in Chi Yanxun’s eyes.
It was just for a split second.
Shen Shuyu blinked, and when he looked again, there was nothing.
Did I see it wrong?
Shen Shuyu felt a bit strange. Noticing him staring, Chi Yanxun asked, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Shuyu snapped back to reality and lowered his eyes to the catalog in his hands. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to say, there’s no need.”
He pushed the catalog back to Chi Yanxun. “Let the past stay in the past. We’re even.”
The gift had just been a complimentary item to begin with. Moreover, both he and Chi Yanxun knew perfectly well that their recent interactions were merely putting on an act.
He was waiting for the Luck System to steer the world back on track, while also waiting for the Luck System to expose its true colors.
So, there was no need to involve too much money between them.
Chi Yanxun didn’t insist. He said, “I’ll keep this sincere apology reserved for you. Whenever you see something you like, just tell me, and I’ll buy it for you.”
Shen Shuyu replied, “Thank you.”
The two sat in the lounge a bit longer. As they were about to leave, the staff member handed Chi Yanxun the items he had requested.
They were things his mother had asked for, and he was just picking them up for her on his way.
With items in hand, they walked side-by-side toward the escalator. Both possessed striking good looks, resulting in a high turnover rate of heads as they walked through the mall.
Shen Shuyu wasn’t very used to this kind of attention and instinctively wanted to cover his face, but he heard Chi Yanxun say, “If you cover it up, they’ll just look at you even more.”
Shen Shuyu shot Chi Yanxun a sideways glance. “You certainly seem unbothered.”
Chi Yanxun said, “Yes. To be honest, I enjoy it when people focus their attention on me.”
That feeling gave him a sense of groundedness.
As if… he had taken control of his own fate.
Shen Shuyu didn’t respond, and the two exited the mall.
Shen Shuyu looked toward the roadside. “Let’s part ways here. I’ll just catch a cab home.”
Chi Yanxun nodded. “Happy New Year.”
Shen Shuyu gave an “Mn.” “Happy New Year to you too.”
He watched Chi Yanxun walk away with his bags. Only after he was out of sight did Shen Shuyu prepare to walk toward the main road. But after just a few steps, he sensed something.
Shen Shuyu looked to his right. Upon clearly seeing the person standing not far away, he froze.
