Chapter 234
Watching the other person take a step forward, Shen Shuyu’s eyes brightened, and he instinctively prepared to walk toward him. But then he felt the Luck System in his head seemingly about to emerge.
I can’t let it see Wen Jiafei.
Shen Shuyu took a long, deep look at Wen Jiafei, pursed his lips, and ultimately turned around to walk toward the road.
Wen Jiafei stood rooted to the spot. He stared blankly at Shen Shuyu’s retreating figure, his brain stalling for a moment.
He… why?
Ning Bai had passed away, and the Ning family was currently in a chaotic state. He had taken advantage of the fact that everyone was too busy to monitor him and sneaked back to Amor.
Wen Jiafei had, of course, seen the scene of Shen Shuyu and Chi Yanxun walking side-by-side out of the mall. The two of them looked exceptionally harmonious, and the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed.
He watched Shen Shuyu get into a car without so much as a backward glance.
Is it… because I came back too late and made him unhappy?
Wen Jiafei lowered his eyes. He had originally come here to pick out a New Year’s gift for Shen Shuyu, but he hadn’t expected to be left feeling so utterly lost.
However, Wen Jiafei only remained confused for a minute before he quickly figured it out.
Shen Shuyu wasn’t the fickle or unreasonable type. If he did this, he must have his reasons.
When Shen Shuyu saw him just now, there was clearly a flash of joy and surprise in his eyes. But moments later, his expression changed. It felt more like he was hiding something—something he just couldn’t tell him yet. Even though he felt deeply wronged, Wen Jiafei remained very calm.
Wen Jiafei looked back toward the main road. The car Shen Shuyu had taken was already out of sight; he had likely gone home.
Taking a deep breath, Wen Jiafei continued walking into the mall. No matter what, he would buy the gift first. When Shen Shuyu came to find him, he would give it to him then.
Sitting in the taxi, Shen Shuyu leaned the back of his head against the seat, communicating with the Luck System in his mind.
The Luck System said: [Chi Yanxun was really nice today. He even lowered his head to apologize. It’s truly rare to meet someone like that.]
Shen Shuyu replied: [It seems you really like Chi Yanxun.]
The Luck System admitted: [Yeah, out of all the missions I’ve done, he’s the most perfect person I’ve ever seen.]
Chi Yanxun was a quintessential egoist. He would do whatever it took—even things he despised—for his own benefit. That fact alone put him leagues above those brainless, saintly figures.
The Luck System deeply admired people like that. It also wanted to become a person like that.
[Say whatever you want,] Shen Shuyu closed his eyes. [Keep an eye on the road for me; I’m going to take a nap.]
The Luck System snapped out of its reverie, speechless. [I am your partner, not your servant to watch doors and roads!]
Shen Shuyu always loved summoning it just to make it do things it disliked. It was simply a waste of its talents!
But sensing that Shen Shuyu was about to shield it away, it fumed silently. Just wait until my work is done. Before I leave, I will definitely torture Shen Shuyu mercilessly.
Shen Shuyu didn’t care about it at all.
After all, he was still of some use to the Luck System right now, so the Luck System didn’t dare refuse him outright.
Sure enough, as soon as Shen Shuyu got out of the car, the Luck System went offline without another word.
When Shen Shuyu got home, the others hadn’t returned yet. He went to sit on the sofa, wondering if Wen Jiafei would be angry.
Judging from his appearance, he had probably taken advantage of the chaos to sneak back, just to spend the Spring Festival with Wen Yue and to see him.
But of all the luck, he had run into this situation.
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath. It seemed he had to resolve the Luck System issue as quickly as possible; otherwise, this romantic relationship was going to turn into a bitter one.
Yet, he felt no worry in his heart. Because he knew Wen Jiafei would understand the reason he turned and walked away.
Shen Yisi and Yue Cheng were the first to return. They parked the car at the main entrance and carried the purchased groceries into the house piece by piece.
They had bought a lot, even preparing the food for the first day of the New Year. Shen Shuyu helped them carry items, taking three or four trips before everything was finally brought inside.
Shen Yisi went to park the car, leaving Shen Shuyu and Yue Cheng in the kitchen.
Shen Shuyu exclaimed, “Ge, did you guys empty out the supermarket?”
Yue Cheng bent down, ready to sort the ingredients and put them in the refrigerator. Shen Shuyu quickly said, “I’ll do it, Ge. You haven’t fully recovered yet.”
Yue Cheng smiled. “I recovered ages ago. Why are you just like your brother? I’m an Alpha, for heaven’s sake. This minor injury is nothing. It’s you guys insisting that I rest well, and then rest some more.”
However, it was a blessing in disguise. He ended up getting nearly a month off. Ever since graduating and entering the hospital, he had never had such a long vacation. Every day he was either at work or commuting to work. The occasional free time he had was spent sleeping at home all day, and sometimes he would still get called back to the hospital for overtime.
Shen Shuyu had already crouched down. He was much faster than Yue Cheng and had everything sorted out in no time.
Seeing this, Yue Cheng couldn’t help but chuckle. “I didn’t expect our Xiao Yu to be so good at organizing.”
Shen Shuyu replied, “Of course. I’ll hand them to you, and you put them in the fridge. That’ll be faster.”
In his previous world, he was an orphan. Ever since he was old enough to work, he had taken on endless part-time jobs just to earn living expenses and tuition fees.
Shen Shuyu reached out to hand the sorted items to Yue Cheng. However, it was strange. According to the System, he and the original Shen Shuyu had only swapped souls five years ago. So why did he still have some childhood memories? Although some were very blurry, he was certain they were there, and they felt very real.
Yue Cheng watched him space out for a long time and asked, “Xiao Yu, what are you thinking about?”
Shen Shuyu snapped back to reality. He continued handing the sorted food to Yue Cheng and said, “Nothing.”
Yue Cheng raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further.
They were halfway done when Shen Yisi returned from parking the car. He said, “Looks about right. It’s time to prepare the reunion dinner.”
Shen Shuyu stood up from the floor and rolled up his sleeves. “I’ll help you guys too.”
Shen Shuyu’s cooking skills were limited to making things edible. The real cooking still had to be left to Shen Yisi.
The three divided the tasks. Shen Shuyu washed the vegetables, Yue Cheng stood aside and chopped them, and Shen Yisi naturally stood at the stove, heating the wok.
Watching his practiced movements, Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but ask, “Ge, how did you get so good at cooking?”
As soon as he asked, Yue Cheng beside him couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Shen Shuyu turned to look at Yue Cheng, who teased, “Poor Shen Yisi. What’s the deal? After all that effort, a certain little radish doesn’t even remember why you started learning to cook.”
Little radish?
Great, they were talking about him again.
Shen Yisi said, “He was young back then. It’s normal he doesn’t remember.”
Shen Shuyu looked back and forth between them. “Wait, can you guys just tell me? If you play riddles today, you might just beat your little brother tomorrow. Is there any justice?”
Shen Yisi ignored him and focused on cooking. Beside him, Yue Cheng slowly spoke up, “I think it was when you were in second grade? I don’t remember the exact time either. One day, you suddenly fainted at school. You were rushed to the hospital, and they found out you had been drugged.”
