Chapter 240
The New Year flashed by, and a week later, everyone gradually began to return to work.
Mother Shen and Father Shen’s friends invited them to continue their interstellar travels. Thinking about Shen Xili, they figured they could drop by to see him along the way, so they set off again right after the New Year.
Shen Shuyu and Yue Cheng sat cross-legged on the sofa, playing a video game on the console connected to the TV. They were just playing some casual mini-games.
Shen Yisi came downstairs fully dressed. Shen Shuyu glanced back and asked, “Ge, where are you going?”
“A business partner has arrived in Amor today, I’m going to meet him,” Shen Yisi said, walking over to the edge of the sofa. “When the kitchen finishes preparing the food later, you two make sure to eat. Don’t play games until the sky turns dark and you forget what day it is.”
He ruffled Yue Cheng’s hair, a specific gesture meant as a reminder.
Yue Cheng replied, “Yes, yes, yes. President Shen, you just go on ahead. I will definitely keep a close eye on Xiao Yu.”
Just as the words left his mouth, the character he was controlling was knocked down, leaving only Shen Shuyu’s character still standing. Yue Cheng let out a groan, tossed the game controller aside, leaned back, and rested the back of his head against the sofa.
However, Shen Yisi hadn’t left yet. The two locked eyes. Yue Cheng glanced at Shen Shuyu; since only his character hadn’t been defeated yet, Shen Shuyu was currently intensely focused on the screen.
Yue Cheng raised a hand and beckoned to Shen Yisi. Shen Yisi bent down and kissed him on the corner of the mouth. Then he straightened up and said seriously, “I’m leaving. Look after the house.”
Yue Cheng waved his hand dismissively. “Go on, go on.”
Who knew where he got so many things to say all day long?
After Shen Yisi left, Shen Shuyu also reached the finish line. He cheered, “Yeah!” and then picked another mini-game with Yue Cheng. Their goal these past two days was to play through all the mini-games in this collection!
As the new game started, this one didn’t demand as much intense focus. Shen Shuyu asked, “Yue Cheng-ge, when are you going back to the hospital?”
“At the end of the month,” Yue Cheng said.
Even though he had repeatedly submitted requests to return to the hospital, claiming he was pretty much healed, they had all been rejected. He guessed Shen Yisi probably had a hand in it.
A couple of days ago, he had only jokingly mentioned that his wound was itching—a sign new flesh was growing—but that very night he received a rejection email from the hospital.
Yue Cheng scratched his head. Although resting was indeed relaxing, he couldn’t just keep resting forever. So yesterday, he sent another email to the hospital. The hospital replied this morning, telling him to return to work after the fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year. Looking at the calendar, that was essentially the end of the month.
He looked at Shen Shuyu beside him and asked, “What about you? When are you going back to school?”
“The beginning of next month,” Shen Shuyu said. “It’ll start warming up by then.”
Yue Cheng gave an “Mn.” “What do you plan to do after graduation?”
Time had flown by, and Shen Shuyu was now in the final stretch towards graduation.
Shen Shuyu sighed. “I’m not even thinking about whether I’ll graduate or not right now. I have to figure out what to do about my thesis.”
Shen Shuyu was truly numbed by it. He had to write a thesis in his past life, and now he had to write one in this life too!
He just prayed his thesis wouldn’t be rejected and sent back for rewrites.
Yue Cheng couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright then, I wish you pass on your first try.”
Shen Shuyu looked at his smile and gritted his back teeth. “Your smile makes me feel alienated. Stop smiling.”
Ding-dong~
The doorbell rang at the main entrance again.
The house servant walked over and opened the door. This time, it was an express delivery from a jewelry store.
After signing for it, the servant brought the jewelry inside. “Young Master, your package.”
“Mine?” Shen Shuyu distracted himself for a second to look. “Alright, just put it on the table. I’ll look at it later.”
Yue Cheng also glanced at it. “What did you buy?”
He hadn’t bought anything at all?!
This round of the game was cleared quickly. Shen Shuyu set the controller aside and pulled the jewelry out of the bag. It was a brooch, primarily made of sapphires, carved into the shape of a leaping fish.
Yue Cheng remarked, “It’s quite pretty.”
The sapphires were extremely clear and bright; one glance was enough to tell this brooch was incredibly valuable.
Shen Shuyu searched around a bit more and finally found a card. The card read: [Happy New Year].
The signature was once again ‘C’.
Chi Yanxun again?
But speaking of which, a couple of days ago he had asked Chi Yanxun out, wanting to clear the air with him. However, Chi Yanxun never replied. He had assumed Chi Yanxun was too busy and didn’t mind it, but what was going on now?
Why was he sending him jewelry out of nowhere again?
Yue Cheng bumped Shen Shuyu with his shoulder. “A suitor?”
“No,” Shen Shuyu said. “Don’t tell my brother about this.”
Yue Cheng gave a light tsk. “What’s there to be afraid of? Our Xiao Yu is so good-looking, a top-tier Omega. Isn’t it perfectly normal for people to like you?”
Shen Shuyu replied, “It’s normal, but I already have a partner.”
Yue Cheng let out an exclamation of surprise and set his game console aside, thoroughly intrigued. “You have a partner? I told your brother you’ve been acting weird lately, and he didn’t believe me.”
Shen Shuyu scratched his head. “Don’t tell my brother. We just started dating. Once things are stable, I’ll tell you who it is.”
Seeing the blush rising on Shen Shuyu’s cheeks, Yue Cheng sighed. “Fine, fine. I guess little brothers grow up and leave the nest eventually.”
Shen Shuyu placed the jewelry back into the box, emphasizing repeatedly, “You cannot tell my brother.”
“Alright, alright, alright,” Yue Cheng said. “Do you really have so little faith in your older brother?”
Shen Shuyu prepared to take the brooch upstairs. “I believe you, I believe you. You pick the next game. I’ll be right down after I put this away.”
He looked like someone absolutely unwilling to discuss the matter any further.
Watching him stomp up the stairs, Yue Cheng shook his head and went back to browsing for a new game.
After Shen Shuyu went upstairs and put the brooch away, his smart terminal chimed with two new messages.
He opened the messaging app while walking out. Wen Jiafei and Chi Yanxun had sent messages at exactly the same time.
He opened Wen Jiafei’s message first. Wen Jiafei said that he had mostly wrapped up the matters with the Ning family and had bought a ticket for tomorrow night. He estimated he would arrive in Amor around eight or nine o’clock.
This drama with the Ning family had dragged on from the end of the year to the beginning of the new year, but fortunately, it had been resolved satisfactorily.
He replied with an “Okay.”
Then he exited and looked at Chi Yanxun’s message.
[Did you receive the brooch? Would you like to have dinner tomorrow night?]
Shen Shuyu had exactly the same intention. He thought for a moment, didn’t reply immediately, and sent a message to Wen Jiafei first.
[I have a dinner engagement tomorrow night, so I probably won’t be able to pick you up.]
Wen Jiafei replied very quickly: [It’s okay. Give me the address, and I’ll come pick you up after I arrive.]
That worked too.
Shen Shuyu returned to the chat window with Chi Yanxun: [Okay. I actually have something to say to you too. What time shall we meet tomorrow?]
The smart terminal lit up. Chi Yanxun didn’t even look at it, but the message was automatically sent out.
[7:30 PM. I’ll send you the address tomorrow.]
The Chi family members were out traveling and hadn’t returned yet, leaving him completely alone right now.
He looked at his reflection in the mirror. He had looked much gloomier these past few days, and in the pupil of his left eye, there was a red dot resembling a surveillance camera.
The left eye blinked on its own. Chi Yanxun let out a cold scoff, bent down, and splashed cold water on his face.
