Chapter 52: The Protection Left by the Tyrant
Vélìkè’ěr practically ground his teeth as he clicked “Yes.”
“Contract successfully established. Mr. Vélìkè’ěr, please ensure full payment is made within three days, otherwise the system will automatically generate a holographic court case to be handled according to Federation law. Once again, a reminder for Mr. Vélìkè’ěr to hurry…”
Vélìkè’ěr nearly slumped into his seat.
But refusing to lose face in front of his enemies, he steeled himself and walked out.
“Husband, wait for me…”
The noblewoman stumbled after him.
The couple had been driven nearly insane by the astronomical compensation, and they had completely forgotten their precious son.
Shěn Zéyù transferred the holographic data to Shěn Lín’s star-computer.
“Bǐngbǐng, don’t be sad. Big Brother will find a way to fix that bracelet for you.”
Shěn Lín pursed his lips and touched the bracelet, a look of sadness on his face.
Shěn Zéyù rubbed his head to comfort him.
The whole ordeal was mostly settled.
The two spectators finally made a move.
Mò Bái stepped forward to comfort the cub.
“I’ll ask my Merfolk uncles when I get back to see if they know any artisans who can help you fix it.”
“Thank you~”
“Don’t be so polite! We’re friends!”
Shěn Lín was about to speak when he suddenly sensed a surge of intense malice.
He whipped his head around to see the little fatty holding a conical object, swinging it toward his head.
“Bǐngbǐng, watch out!”
Big Brother Shěn’s pupils constricted. He instinctively ripped a chunk of metal from the high-tech wall and hurled it…
The Ghost Vine on Shěn Lín shot out immediately after…
The few strands of red hair at the nape of Shěn Lín’s neck flashed, turning into a beam of light that shot forward…
Thud! Crackle! Boom!
The whole process seemed slow, but it happened in a split second.
The principal’s office was a total wreck. A large hole had been punched through the wall, sparks flew from the severed wires, and debris rained down.
“Bǐngbǐng!”
Shěn Zéyù rushed forward with lingering fear and pulled the cub into a hug.
Shěn Lín patted his brother’s arm. “It’s okay~”
Shěn Zéyù let out a breath, his gaze landing on those few strands of red hair on the cub’s neck.
Mò Qīng had already pulled his nephew into a tight embrace before the incident even started.
Mò Bái had no idea what had happened, blinking his confused eyes.
The culprit behind it all was now lying in the ruins, his life or death unknown.
Seeing his devastated office, the principal felt like the sky had fallen.
He looked at the hole Shěn Zéyù had punched through the reinforced wall, then at the even larger hole opposite it.
One massive expense after another was slipping from his pocket.
The principal’s heart ached with every beat.
The Director of Instruction, meanwhile, let out a massive sigh of relief.
Thank goodness it wasn’t in my office.
Otherwise, my bonus for the semester would have been gone.
Fortunately, Shěn Zéyù didn’t leave the principal to suffer alone.
Seeing the balance in his account gain an extra zero, the principal smiled with satisfaction.
The Director, however, was now sour as a lemon.
The little fatty was eventually carted away by the Federation’s First Hospital.
His previous injuries had been bad enough, but now he was truly in a sorry state.
The principal shook his head privately. He brought it on himself!
He’d have to tell his wife to stop spoiling their children. If they raised a brat like Vélìtuō’ěr, they’d not only lose their fortune but end up in the hospital. And if things got worse, they’d be sent to the Blood Abyss.
Shěn Lín stared at the direction the fatty had been taken, his fingers twitching.
A snake-like strand of energy slithered forward, fast as lightning, precisely avoiding the medical staff to climb onto the starship and bore into the little fatty’s brain.
Shěn Lín lowered his head, hiding the coldness in his eyes.
This was the first time he had used his ability in reverse.
The “Healing” ability focused on healing, but what would happen if that energy were turned into its opposite?
Shěn Lín had grown up among monsters; the first thing he had learned wasn’t how to save people, but how to kill.
He hoped Vélìtuō’ěr would enjoy his gift.
By evening, the entire Shěn family knew about the fight at school.
They didn’t blame the cub for causing trouble; instead, they all brought gifts to comfort him.
Shěn Zéxī even used the opportunity to attack the Fifth Council Elder during the meeting.
“During his tenure, the Fifth Council Elder has accepted numerous bribes, shielded terrestrial merchants in their illegal resource extraction, and forced Beastmen to become ‘pioneers.’ In just one year, the death toll among Beastmen has reached a terrifying four-digit number…”
Her words were sharp and direct, aimed squarely at the old man sitting in the fifth seat of the Council.
The expressions of the councilors were varied as they subtly observed the Fifth Elder.
It wasn’t as if they hadn’t all done “dirty” things in private, but none of them had been publicly executed like this.
Anyway, for the next few days, the Federation StarNet would be flooded with citizens condemning the Fifth Elder.
It’s good to have some tea and drama during work.
The atmosphere of “enjoying the show” was far too obvious.
The Fifth Council Elder’s face was ashen until the end of the meeting.
Just as he stepped out of the hall, his personal secretary brought even worse news.
Not only did they owe a debt of one million high-grade energy stones, but his youngest grandson was in the emergency room, his life or death uncertain.
The Fifth Elder’s suppressed rage finally exploded.
His eyes were bloodshot as he scanned the crowd until he saw a face he loathed, and he rushed toward her recklessly.
“Shěn Zéxī!”
The Fifth Elder’s voice was booming, and the councilors leaving work all turned their heads.
Shěn Zéxī stopped and watched the Fifth Elder charge toward her, her expression calm and her face wearing a standard smile.
“Is there something you need, Fifth Elder?”
“Did you do this on purpose? Why would a masterpiece by Lafayette be on your little waste’s wrist? And what a coincidence that my grandson broke it!”
Shěn Zéxī maintained her smile, though her eyes were devoid of warmth.
“The Fifth Elder must be joking. There were witnesses to the entire event. Wasn’t it your grandson who started the trouble? My fourth brother was only acting in self-defense.”
“My grandson—”
“The fact that your grandson attacked my brother is something I need an explanation for.”
The Fifth Elder’s face went dark, and he pointed a finger at Shěn Zéxī. “Your brother is just a waste! How can his life be compared to my grandson’s? My grandson has an S-grade bloodline—he could have been another Federation hero…”
Hearing the word “waste,” the smile vanished from Shěn Zéxī’s face, and snake-like markings began to surface on her cheeks.
Just then, an elegant figure stepped in front of Shěn Zéxī.
“Véliyàtè, you’re still so lacking in dignity, only knowing how to bully young girls. Who doesn’t know your grandson’s reputation as a ‘demon king’? How many schools has he been kicked out of now? Tsk tsk, ‘sparing the rod spoils the child.’ If you don’t fix his personality, he’s going to cause even more trouble in the future.”
“Madame Yīměilián, what does this have to do with you?” the Fifth Elder asked coldly through narrowed eyes.
The Sixth Council Elder, Madame Yīměilián, was a very beautiful and elegant lady. She had a passion for vibrant colors and hated the dull silver councilor robes, so her daily attire was always richly colored.
She held an exquisitely crafted fan inlaid with various gemstones, opening it slightly. Her red lips were hidden behind the fan, revealing only her upturned fox-eyes.
“If you still have the energy to waste words here, it seems you don’t care much for your grandson after all.”
“You!”
The Fifth Elder sputtered for a long time, ultimately only shooting two venomous glares at Shěn Zéxī before rushing away.
Once he was gone, Madame Yīměilián closed her fan and walked ahead with an elegant stride. Shěn Zéxī followed.
“You were too impatient this time. If you push Véliyàtè too hard, he might just snap.”
Shěn Zéxī didn’t speak, listening quietly to the Madame.
Madame Yīměilián’s beautiful fox-eyes scanned Shěn Zéxī, a playful smile on her lips.
“This doesn’t seem like the calm, composed Shěn Zéxī I know. Who changed you? Was it that youngest brother of yours?”
At the mention of her brother, a genuine smile appeared on Shěn Zéxī’s face.
“I’ll let you meet Bǐngbǐng if there’s a chance. He… he is very cute.”
Madame Yīměilián marveled at the sight.
“I really do want to meet that cub. To beat a demon king into critical condition—he doesn’t sound like the ‘bloodline waste’ the rumors say he is.”
As she spoke, Madame Yīměilián’s gaze drifted back to Shěn Zéxī. Her tone softened even further, as if she were looking through her face at someone else.
Shěn Zéxī didn’t interrupt, allowing Madame Yīměilián to watch her.
She knew who Madame Yīměilián was seeing through her.
Her missing daughter.
Supposedly, her features were about thirty percent similar to Shěn Zéxī’s.
When Shěn Zéxī first started, Madame Yīměilián was the first to show her kindness and had helped her numerous times in her work, all because her face reminded the Madame of her own daughter.
Madame Yīměilián had been searching for her daughter for years.
But all these years later, there was still no news.
After Shěn Zéxī heard the story, she had also sent people to help search.
The results had not been ideal.
Reaching the gates of the Council Building, Dàiwéi had already driven the aircraft with the Shěn family crest up to them.
Shěn Zéxī stepped forward to open the door. “I’ll drop you off first.”
Madame Yīměilián waved her hand. “No need. I have a tea date with Elizabeth today. Want to join?”
This time, it was Shěn Zéxī who declined. “Bǐngbǐng is out of school; I’m going back to check on him.”
Madame Yīměilián smiled elegantly. “What a devoted older sister. Fine, I won’t stop you from bonding with your brother.”
Madame Yīměilián boarded the aircraft bearing the Yīměi family crest.
Shěn Zéxī stepped forward to support her. Once the Madame was settled and the mechanical door was closed, she stood there watching the aircraft leave the main road before departing herself.
The fight became old news, and no one noticed that one of the participants hadn’t returned to school.
Children are forgetful, and the little fatty wasn’t well-liked anyway, so naturally, no one brought up his name.
Shěn Lín’s school life had officially begun.
Because of the fight, the teacher had placed Mò Bái and Shěn Lín together.
Firstly to look after them, and secondly because she was worried another uncontrollable incident might occur.
Mò Bái had stepped up to help when the fatty bullied Shěn Lín, and now Shěn Lín had officially categorized him as “one of his own.”
The two children were inseparable, forming their own little group.
Other children had seen how fierce they were during the fight and stayed far away from them.
But while the other children were afraid, one child stepped forward voluntarily.
Shěn Lín was being forced to listen to Mò Bái’s chattering when he noticed someone standing in front of him. He tilted his head in curiosity.
the child had his head down, his hands instinctively tugging at the hem of his shirt.
“Is there… something~?”
The child snuck a glance at Shěn Lín, his ears turning red. His voice was as quiet as a mosquito as he said, “Thank you.”
“Mhm~”
Shěn Lín looked completely blank.
The child was very timid; after saying those words, he ran off.
While Shěn Lín was still confused, Mò Bái offered a reminder from the side. “That was the kid whose seat was stolen by the little fatty yesterday.”
Shěn Lín thought hard for a moment but still couldn’t remember. He naturally let it go, and his ears continued to be bombarded by Mò Bái’s chatter.
