Chapter 59: Liang Sheng Betrayed Him First
“Shengsheng…”
Shen Xingyu called out softly. Liang Sheng’s fingers were so cold they felt like they would vanish at any second.
He couldn’t help but tighten his grip slightly. His heart was still aching. He used to test Liang Sheng repeatedly, certain that he would never leave. Now, seeing Liang Sheng lying on the hospital bed motionless, he finally knew what it felt like to be afraid.
He was forced to separate from his mother as a child, taken away by his father and the “other woman” to be tortured day and night. It was only with great effort that his grandfather brought him back to the Shen family, only for him to witness his mother’s tragic death without even a chance to acknowledge her.
He didn’t want to experience another separation of life and death.
Actually, he wasn’t afraid of life separation. As long as the person was still alive, even if they were thousands of miles apart, he could find Liang Sheng. But death? That meant even if he stayed by the person’s side, they could never meet again.
“Please don’t die, okay?”
Shen Xingyu lifted Liang Sheng’s hand to his lips for a light kiss, his eyes full of near-begging affection.
A late-arriving affection.
Unlike his usual possessive and paranoid self, at this moment, he was filled with gentleness and pity.
He was panicked, pressing his little wife’s skeletal hand to his lips to repeatedly feel that pitiful bit of warmth, fearing Liang Sheng would disappear from his world.
“Shengsheng, I absolutely won’t let you die. Don’t even think about leaving me this way…”
Shen Xingyu’s eyes were rimmed with red. He stared intently at the weak Liang Sheng. No one could take him away—not even Death.
Liang Sheng was moved to the ICU.
For a full day and night, Shen Xingyu didn’t eat, drink, or sleep, staying by the bedside. He didn’t dare close his eyes or leave, afraid that if he looked away for a moment, Liang Sheng would vanish and never be found again.
After cleaning Liang Sheng’s body, he sat in the chair, holding the other’s hand. He sat there from dusk until late at night, feeling somewhat lost. He didn’t say a word, just stared at Liang Sheng. He always felt as if a part of his life was missing, leaving a hollow ache.
Qin Lou stood outside the door for a long time, watching Shen Xingyu’s figure. He had followed this man for so many years and had always seen his firm back. He had never seen him like this—shoulders slumped, head bowed, looking completely devastated and powerless.
Is the boss finally having a change of heart?
Does he feel guilty toward the Young Madam?
Or is it because the Young Madam has a terminal illness that President Shen finally knows the fear of loss?
Qin Lou couldn’t figure it out. He knew nothing about matters of the heart. He simply felt that if you love someone, you should love them always. He didn’t understand why Shen Xingyu would change his heart, yet pretend to be deeply affectionate when he didn’t love him.
But he couldn’t let the man continue to wear himself out.
He finally couldn’t help but raise his hand and knock lightly on the door. He had wanted to knock several times before but didn’t dare to disturb them. Moreover, Shen Xingyu was usually alert and sensitive, yet he had been standing there for at least two hours without the man moving once. He was just staring at Liang Sheng in a daze.
He was a bit worried about Shen Xingyu’s mental state.
“Come in.”
His voice was hoarse, and Shen Xingyu seemed to sigh.
Qin Lou stepped lightly into the room and stood behind the man, advising: “President Shen, you haven’t rested since the Young Madam went into surgery. Your health is important. You should go and rest for a bit, or at least eat something. I’ll watch over the Young Madam; you can be at ease.”
Shen Xingyu shook his head. “No, I want to watch him myself. Otherwise, I won’t be at peace. Besides, Shengsheng will be scared if he’s here alone.”
The cold white light hit Liang Sheng’s face like a layer of frost, making the already pale face look even more transparent. He was still eyes-closed and hadn’t woken up. Only the occasional mist on the oxygen mask and the vital signs on the surrounding monitors proved he was still alive.
The doctor had come by several times, saying it was normal for him not to wake up. His body was too weak, which led to a brief coma. But Shen Xingyu was still worried, fearing Liang Sheng would just keep sleeping like this.
“President Shen, your body won’t be able to take it. You’ve always followed my advice over the years; this once, please listen to me! You need to stay healthy to take care of the Young Madam.”
Qin Lou continued to advise earnestly. He had never spoken so much, only hoping the man would listen.
“Qin Lou, you’re being naggy.”
Shen Xingyu frowned. He was already frustrated enough about Liang Sheng; Qin Lou’s words only added to his troubles.
Qin Lou became serious: “President Shen, this isn’t being naggy. This is for your own health. You also have a heart condition; it’s not good for you to be over-exhausted…”
“Shut up.”
Shen Xingyu interrupted coldly. He hated and avoided people mentioning his heart condition most of all. Qin Lou clearly knew that, yet he intentionally brought it up. Was he trying to make things difficult for him?
“But…”
Qin Lou wanted to say more, but Shen Xingyu didn’t give him the chance: “Get out. If you say another word, you’re fired.”
“Fine…”
Qin Lou was helpless. He knew the man was stubborn, but he didn’t expect him to be this headstrong.
Shen Xingyu leaned over to tuck the blanket around Liang Sheng.
Qin Lou remained standing behind him, motionless.
“Why haven’t you left yet?”
Shen Xingyu finally couldn’t help but look back at him, his eyes filled with thick impatience. “Didn’t I say? I’m waiting for Shengsheng to wake up.”
“It’s not because of that. It’s something else.”
Qin Lou quickly explained.
“What is it? If it’s about the company, don’t bother me these next few days. I’m not in the mood to deal with it. You and He Lin handle it. Grandfather is old; don’t make him work too hard either.”
Shen Xingyu’s voice finally lowered, and his mood softened. “In this world, the only person I trust is you. Don’t let me down.”
Qin Lou was stunned. It was the first time he had heard the man say he trusted him. He quickly nodded. “Yes. I will handle everything personally.”
“Yes.”
Shen Xingyu sat back in the chair.
Qin Lou bit his lip, wondering if he should mention his request for leave to go to the racing club.
Seeing that he still hadn’t left, Shen Xingyu felt he was hiding something. “Is there anything else?”
Since the other had asked, and Qin Lou was so obsessed with finding his brother, he couldn’t help but say:
“It’s like this. There’s news of my brother.”
“News? Where?”
Shen Xingyu looked up in surprise. He indeed knew that Qin Lou had a younger brother who had been missing for years, and that the man had never given up searching, though it had always been fruitless.
“Yes. At the racing club. I discovered a totem identical to the one on the team that kidnapped my brother. It has appeared again.”
As he spoke, Qin Lou took out the invitation Jiang Chuzhou gave him, opened it quickly, and held it before the man.
Shen Xingyu took it, narrowed his eyes, and saw the Black Panther logo on the McLaren. He didn’t know much about racing. He had helped Qin Lou investigate over the years and only knew that Black Panther had long since vanished.
“It’s been so long. Your brother… might not be around anymore?”
He said without looking up. He wasn’t trying to be heartless; it was just that the timeline was indeed too long. Any investigation would likely be in vain.
Qin Lou’s heart shook. He endured the intense pain and said firmly: “Whether he’s dead or alive, I must know how my brother disappeared back then.”
“Then go. It’s better to settle your heart’s burden after all these years.”
Shen Xingyu handed the invitation back to him, his gaze returning to Liang Sheng. “I won’t be able to go with you. Be careful. You can use the Shen family’s bodyguards as you wish.”
“Yes. Thank you, President Shen!”
Qin Lou felt a wave of gratitude. He gripped the invitation, said goodbye, and left urgently.
As the footsteps faded away, Shen Xingyu raised his hand, gently brushing his fingers over Liang Sheng’s eye corner. He said softly: “Shengsheng, now it’s just the two of us. No one will disturb us.”
“When will you wake up?”
He asked, his eyes suddenly dropping in loneliness. “When you wake up… will you blame me?”
He didn’t know, and Liang Sheng couldn’t answer.
“I’m sorry…”
A very soft, low apology came from Shen Xingyu’s mouth. Yet, it felt like a sharp thorn, stabbing back into his own heart.
Even if Liang Sheng was unconscious with his eyes closed, he still felt a bit embarrassed. While loving him, he awkwardly felt that this apology didn’t match his status.
He was truly crazy.
What was there to apologize for?
Liang Sheng was the one who betrayed him first.
He just wanted to give the person a small punishment; he didn’t know it would turn out like this, nor did he know the other had a terminal illness. He couldn’t be blamed for these things.
Shen Xingyu deceived himself in his heart. Even though he wanted to offer his heart, he pretended to hide his feelings because he couldn’t bring himself to “lose face.”
A night passed.
As dawn approached, a heavy rain began to fall outside.
Thunder roared and the wind howled.
Shen Xingyu had sat stiffly for too long, and his heart began to ache faintly. He pressed his hand against it firmly, his face turning pale.
Please don’t have an attack now…
Shengsheng hadn’t woken up yet; he absolutely couldn’t collapse.
Shen Xingyu took a few deep breaths, quickly took out the life-saving medicine he always carried, and tremblingly poured out a few pills, swallowing them. The bitterness made him frown.
But fortunately, the heart pain didn’t continue.
He leaned against the bedside table to rest briefly.
At that moment, Liang Sheng’s finger twitched, and his eyelids flickered. He was clearly disturbed by the storm outside. He uncontrollably let out a small whimper.
Shen Xingyu looked up hurriedly, his heart tightening. He looked at the person on the bed, desperately suppressing his excitement as he called softly: “Shengsheng?”
Liang Sheng didn’t react, seemingly struggling to wake up.
Shen Xingyu stared at him, thinking he was hallucinating. He rubbed his eyes, and seeing Liang Sheng’s eyelids flicker again, he was ecstatic and immediately pressed the call button.
“Shengsheng, the doctor will be here soon. Hold on, it’s fine. I’m here with you.”
He crouched down, tightly holding Liang Sheng’s hand.
In his daze, Liang Sheng heard someone saying something, but he couldn’t hear clearly. He only felt someone holding his cold hand. That person’s palm was exceptionally warm, soothing the terror in his nightmare.
The doctor came and checked him over.
Fortunately, the condition was controlled and hadn’t worsened. Liang Sheng’s various indicators had returned to normal.
The weight on Shen Xingyu’s heart finally lifted slightly, but he didn’t dare fully relax, afraid Liang Sheng would suddenly vomit blood again like yesterday.
Liang Sheng slowly opened his eyes, his vision shifting from blurry to clear.
