The Cannon Fodder Omega’s Mental Power is Off the Charts [Transmigration] Chapter 23.4

Part 4

Luo Siqi nodded repeatedly. “Incredibly hard! If a student at Imperial Star Academy wants to apply for a single dorm, they must be in the top three of their major. Then, based on various comprehensive scores and layers of approval, a final decision is made. Generally, one of those top three will definitely be cut. I’ve applied for three years, and I’ve never gotten one. Someone in Yu Xia’s situation is a special case, though; the likelihood of approval is high if you apply.”

But if you didn’t apply, you still wouldn’t have one.

Yu Xia looked up at Qin Yizheng and said with a smile, “Thank you for being so thoughtful on my behalf.”

Qin Yizheng coughed lowly. “No need for that. I just thought that you aren’t suited to living with others. Besides, the single dorms are close to each other. If you have any problems, you can come straight to me.”

Most importantly, he truly didn’t want Yu Xia living with anyone else.

In truth, Qin Yizheng hadn’t thought about the housing issue initially. It wasn’t until Ning Qing asked him to handle Yu Xia’s military training exemption that he realized Yu Xia would need to live on campus. Single dorms at Imperial Star were notoriously difficult to secure; he couldn’t just let Yu Xia share a room with someone else, could he?

Even as a mere possibility, Qin Yizheng rejected the idea from the bottom of his heart. So, he simply helped Yu Xia apply for a single dorm.

Due to his health, Yu Xia would encounter many inconveniences living with others. Rather than dealing with various conflicts later, it was better to keep him separate from the start. Giving Yu Xia a special permit to bring a household robot was much better.

Walking beside Qin Yizheng, Yu Xia thanked him sincerely. “Regardless, I still have to thank you. I hadn’t even thought of these things myself. It’s all thanks to you.”

“Don’t be so formal. You’re my junior now.”

Luo Siqi let out a couple of “Heh-heh” laughs but didn’t say anything.

He remembered a certain Mr. Qin solemnly promising him that he was only being nice to Yu Xia to “befriend a talent in advance.” He had even used the excuse that “Tulip can’t perform mental power blending” to swear their relationship was purely platonic.

Given the way Qin Yizheng was acting now, those previous words were likely just tall tales to fool him!

With Qin Yizheng and Luo Siqi leading the way, Yu Xia’s registration process went very quickly. Before long, they reached his class.

Although Yu Xia had taken the special supplementary exam, with Qin Yizheng’s tutoring, he didn’t fall behind anyone in the testing phase. Combined with his mental power—even if it was only the public SSS-rank—it was enough to land him in Class One. His tutor was clearly aware that she had a Mental Power Disorder patient in her class; when she looked at him, her gaze was far more maternal than it was for the others.

She patted Yu Xia’s shoulder. “Yu Xia, right? Just sign here. Your priority right now is still physical exercise. By the way, considering your health, the academy allows you to opt out of certain less important electives. This will give you more time for your fitness regimen. Our Mechanical Department’s coursework is quite heavy. Of course, you’ll have to make up the credits elsewhere; that’s unavoidable. It’s up to you how you choose to balance the two.”

Yu Xia thought for a moment and asked the tutor, “Is it possible for me to skip the classes but still take the exams?”

The tutor seemed taken aback for a moment, but she quickly understood Yu Xia’s meaning. “It is possible, but you must think it through. If you do that, the exam score will only account for 70% of your grade. Skipping class means your attendance and participation points will be zero. You would need an exceptionally high exam score to avoid failing.”

However, considering Yu Xia’s above-average mental power, the tutor felt this wasn’t entirely unfeasible.

The memory and learning capacity of those with high mental power were inherently superior. Some could pass exams by cramming at the last minute better than ordinary students who studied all term. If it was a purely theoretical course, it could certainly be done this way.

Yu Xia wrote down his name. “I’ve made up my mind. Thank you, Tutor.”

The tutor took back the attendance sheet. “You’re welcome. It’s good that you’ve decided. It’s best if you can manage both.”

Once the registration process ended, Yu Xia planned to follow Qin Yizheng to see his single dorm. Luo Siqi had been eyeing the single dorms for a long time and followed along; even if it wasn’t his, he wanted to at least see what they looked like.

Qin Yizheng glanced at Luo Siqi and frowned, his expression full of slight disdain, but he didn’t say anything. He only felt a bit of regret; with Luo Siqi following them, any chance of a date afterward was surely ruined.

Thinking of this, Qin Yizheng gave Luo Siqi another glare. Why did he have to tag along!

Luo Siqi scratched the back of his head, bewildered. Why is Qin-ge glaring at me?

The three of them walked toward the single dormitory area. This area was quite large, and Yu Xia consulted the address his tutor had given him, trying to find his specific building.

However, before he could take more than a few steps, Yu Xia heard a familiar and exceptionally irritating voice call his name from behind.

“Yu Xia, what are you doing here?”

Translator’s Note:

Oh man, that cliffhanger! (╬ Ò 皿 Ó) Can you guess who it is?

This was a massive chapter (the author listed it as a “Three-in-One”), so here are some points to help digest everything:

  • Martyr status (烈士子女): In the Empire, the children of those who died in military service receive high honors and extra state protection. This is why Yu Xia has so many high-ranking officials looking out for him.
  • Voiceprints (聲線/聲紋): In high-tech settings, voiceprints are as unique as fingerprints. That’s how Wen Lun plans to catch the spies.
  • The “Qin” Name: Our ML is Qin Yizheng (秦逸崢). “Zheng” (崢) implies something lofty or outstanding, fitting for a genius from a Marshal’s family.
  • Class One (一班): In Chinese schools, students are often sorted by performance. Class One is usually the elite class.
  • Single Dorm Approval: As Luo Siqi explained, these are usually reserved for the top 3 students. Qin Yizheng using his “influence” (and Yu Xia’s medical necessity) to bypass the regular queue is a total power move.
