Chapter 29: Proof – A Person’s Potential is Forced Out.
Qin Yizheng had indeed followed the procedures to apply for Yu Xia’s military training exemption step by step, but right now, Shao Yan simply wouldn’t listen.
He was almost stubbornly convinced that Yu Xia had gained preferential treatment that shouldn’t belong to him by relying on a profound background. Now, his accusations against others were filled with righteous indignation. After accusing Yu Xia, he aimed his cannons at Qin Yizheng: “Could it be that he wouldn’t do anything against the rules? Everyone praises him as being so amazing, but once an amazing person develops selfish motives and stops following the rules, that’s what truly causes despair. They will do even more unacceptable things, and ordinary people like us simply wouldn’t be able to bear the consequences!”
Qin Yizheng’s expression instantly froze, and Instructor Yi’s expression also changed.
Yu Xia was slightly better than the two of them, but the look he gave Shao Yan wasn’t particularly friendly either. “This classmate, if you have evidence proving that Senior Qin has violated any rules during his time at school, please take your evidence directly to the school administration to report it. If you don’t have evidence, then what you’re doing right now counts as spreading rumors. You need to be held responsible for the words you speak.”
Yu Xia’s voice was cold and detached. Coupled with his indifferent expression, it managed to cool Shao Yan’s intense emotions down a bit. But the other party still refused to let it go. Shao Yan glared at Yu Xia. “Then can you tell us the specific reason why you aren’t participating in military training? Your current condition clearly looks perfectly fine. You look much better than all the other students in our class. What right do you have to be excused from military training?”
Before Yu Xia had time to speak, Gao Zhou, standing among the students, couldn’t hold back and raised his hand. “Hey Shao Yan, you’re looking down on me with that, right? My condition is obviously much better than his!”
Since things had developed to this point, Yu Xia didn’t plan on hiding it anymore. He sighed and asked Shao Yan, “I heard you’re the class monitor for our Mechanical Class One. In that case, you should be able to view my profile. Do you know what my constitution rank is?”
Shao Yan gave a cold snort. “Of course I’ve seen it. D-rank. You’re the only one in our class whose constitution is dragging us down this much. I remember it clearly.”
Hearing Shao Yan’s unceremonious mockery, Qin Yizheng was about to say something but was held back by Yu Xia again.
He looked at Yu Xia beside him, who still maintained his indifferent appearance. The excessive gap caused by his Mental Power Disorder had seemingly made him accustomed to facing everything with a calm attitude. He heard Yu Xia ask another question: “That’s right, I likely have the lowest constitution in our class. Then you must have also seen my mental power rank. Do you remember what it is?”
Shao Yan was stunned. He thought about it carefully, but unexpectedly couldn’t recall Yu Xia’s mental power rank.
Yu Xia also gave him an odd look, then tilted his head to ask Qin Yizheng beside him, “Did they not write my mental power rank on my personal student profile?”
Qin Yizheng replied softly, “Your mental power rank is quite special and still needs to go through some procedures. Your tutor and instructor should have known in advance, but on paper, they might need an official notice from the military before they can write it down.”
Yu Xia let out an “Oh,” understanding the situation.
His mental power rank was SSS+, but officially it was going to be written as SSS. They were probably just being overly cautious, opting not to write it down on paper before the exact notice was issued.
Instructor Yi coughed first, answering for Yu Xia: “His mental power rank is SSS, which falls under ultra-high mental power. Writing it on his profile requires a special notice issued by the military or the government, which is why your tutor hasn’t filled it into his personal profile for now.”
Instantly, Shao Yan froze in place, while a chorus of “Holy crap!” echoed among the classmates.
“SSS… Fuck, a living SSS-rank mental power!”
“Who wouldn’t call that awesome!”
“Wait, D-rank constitution, SSS-rank mental power, then isn’t Yu Xia…”
“That’s a five-level gap, right? No wonder he’s not participating in military training. He simply can’t! I heard a Level 3 Mental Power Disorder barely lets you act like a normal person, and Level 4 is torturous. This is Level 5! At this level, even walking should be difficult, right?”
“With such high mental power, even if my constitution is better than Yu Xia’s, I still wouldn’t be able to handle it. You’d probably need Gao Zhou’s constitution for that, right?”
“For a moment, I actually don’t know whether to envy Yu Xia or pity him.”
“Well, let’s just wish Yu Xia a speedy recovery. Though it seems pretty hard. Even to just get up to an A-rank constitution, he’d have to jump three major ranks. Maybe half a rank every year? But the higher your constitution goes, the harder it is to train, right?”
“…”
Listening to the flurry of discussions from the classmates behind him, Shao Yan couldn’t help but look at Yu Xia.
Yu Xia still maintained that indifferent look, but at this point, everything was clear.
There was no doubt that Yu Xia was plagued by Mental Power Disorder. To keep his peace of mind, even after Shao Yan had offended him so much just now, he didn’t seem very angry. However, Qin Yizheng beside him didn’t look too pleased, muttering to himself: “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have brought you out. To think we’d run into this kind of mess. Your class tutor is a bit too unreliable, letting someone like this be the class monitor.”
Yu Xia shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s no big deal. Whether it’s the tutor or anyone else, their understanding of the students is limited to exam scores. Since they don’t know each other, how could they tell if someone is reliable or not? Just relax.”
Qin Yizheng sighed. “Forget it, let’s just leave. Your health is more important. Let’s go check on your emotional state after all this…”
Hearing that they seemed about to leave, Instructor Yi was just about to wave them off when Shao Yan spoke up first: “Even… even if it is Mental Power Disorder, everyone should be treated equally, right? It makes no sense to be completely exempt from military training just because of an illness. Don’t people with Level 3 Mental Power Disorder still participate in military training?”
At this, Instructor Yi was the first to lose his temper. “What kind of nonsense are you spouting? Making a Level 5 Mental Power Disorder patient participate in military training—are you trying to kill him? Do you think the military training at Imperial Star Academy is just running a few laps like today and calling it a day? Dream on. Today was just to let you adapt on your first day.”
Shao Yan still stubbornly stood his ground. “A person’s potential is forced out. Who knows, participating in military training might actually do him some good!”
Instructor Yi stared at him for a long time, then suddenly snapped his fingers. “A person’s potential is forced out, is it? I think what you said makes a certain amount of sense. Since that’s the case, wait here a moment…”
Saying this, he turned around, opened his optical computer, and dialed a number.
On the other end was a female Omega wearing a white lab coat, who looked to be a doctor. She looked slightly puzzled on the call. “Captain Yi, is something the matter? I was just about to head over to the training grounds…”
Instructor Yi gave a brief instruction: “When you come over, bring the weights. Just pack them according to the standard for new recruits. Bring…”
He swept his gaze over the students of Mechanical Class One on the field and continued, “Bring enough for twenty-six people.”
The rest of the students in Mechanical Class One: “??”
What was going on? Why did it suddenly include the whole class? What did this have to do with them!
Representing the rest of the students, Gao Zhou shakily raised his hand. “In… Instructor, those weights you mentioned, are they…”
Instructor Yi nodded approvingly. “Exactly, they’re for all of you. After all, your class monitor said it himself—a person’s potential is forced out. Since that’s the case, we’ll just raise the standard a bit. I won’t give the rest of you the standard for commissioned soldiers, just the new recruit standard. It’s not hard.”
Gao Zhou revealed a look of deep suspicion: “Really?”
Meanwhile, Qin Yizheng coughed lightly. “Instructor Yi, don’t go too overboard. They’ve only just enrolled and haven’t undergone any training yet.”
Yu Xia looked up at Qin Yizheng. “Will something bad happen?”
Qin Yizheng narrowed his eyes and explained to him, “Although it’s the standard for new recruits, you have to understand that new recruits have also gone through six years of academy training. Regardless of which academy they graduated from, they’ve all endured six years of training. That is absolutely not something this batch of fresh freshmen can withstand. They aren’t me, after all.”
Yu Xia drew in a sharp breath of cold air, then looked at his classmates with sympathetic eyes. “That does sound pretty hard.”
After hearing Qin Yizheng’s explanation, the rest of the classmates were not doing well.
“Instructor, please have mercy! I’m still young, I can’t handle this!”
“Yeah! How about… how about we let the PE rep do it? His constitution is good, he should be able to handle it.”
Hearing his name mentioned, Gao Zhou immediately grew dissatisfied. “What’s wrong with you guys? Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean I can! I haven’t gone through any training either, okay? My goal is to become a great mecha mechanic of the new era, not an elite mecha warrior. I can’t handle it either!”
Finally, someone turned their gaze toward Shao Yan. “How about… we just let the monitor do it?”
Shao Yan’s face instantly turned incredibly ugly.
Could he handle it?
Instructor Yi smiled faintly, speaking to the students in a breezy tone, “No need to yield to each other, everyone gets a share. After all, everyone’s potential needs to be forced out. Don’t worry, I know where to draw the line; I won’t make it too hard on you. We’re just here to test exactly how far human potential can be pushed. Are you ready, students?”
Gao Zhou was the first to shout back loudly: “No!”
Shao Yan’s lips trembled. He looked at Yu Xia. “Student Yu Xia, aren’t you going to say something?”
Yu Xia tilted his head. “Do I need to say anything? It’s not like I’m the class monitor.”
Shao Yan choked.
He looked at Instructor Yi, who happened to be looking back at him with a gentle expression. “Shao Yan, as the class monitor, once the military doctor arrives, you should set an example for your classmates first. Prove to everyone that a person’s potential can indeed be forced out.”
Wen Luo popped his small head out. “Does that mean if he proves it, it’s fine, and the rest of us don’t have to do it?”
Instructor Yi spread his hands. “Who knows?”
Right at that moment, Yu Xia suddenly grabbed Qin Yizheng’s arm, looking around.
Qin Yizheng glanced at him. “What’s wrong?”
Yu Xia pursed his lips. “It feels like someone is there.”
