Chapter 85: Everyone Enters the Fray
Gu Yanxiu tapped his knuckles gently on the table and unhurriedly took a sip of his coffee, not caring in the least about the anger of the person across from him.
Song Xingmian looked at him with a dark gaze. “Speak. Where exactly is Brother now? I don’t believe you don’t know.”
Gu Yanxiu continued to drink his coffee slowly.
He did know. After all, Fu Xingjian had even mobilized a special plane the day before yesterday and hadn’t made any effort to hide his movements. A simple check would reveal where he had gone.
Haishi. It was within Gu Yanxiu’s expectations, given that Wen Yuhuai’s attitude toward Lin Shiyu was naturally closer than toward the rest of them.
It was infuriatingly enviable. It wasn’t surprising that Fu Xingjian couldn’t sit still.
Despite this, Gu Yanxiu still had no intention of entering the fray. Haishi was thousands of miles away; if he went there, he would be even more restricted than Fu Xingjian. He might not even be able to win against Lin Shiyu then, let alone Fu Xingjian.
But now—
“I’m asking you a question. Stop acting like a mute. Where is Brother?”
Gu Yanxiu closed his eyes as if enduring something. After a long moment, he opened them and uttered two words: “Haishi.”
But now, he also seemed unable to sit still. Since everyone was gathered, they might as well all enter the fray and stir the waters until they were even murkier.
Perhaps he could even take the opportunity to fish in troubled waters.
Since that day, Fu Xingjian had been unusually quiet. He hadn’t done anything extreme, nor was there any news, as if he were no longer in Haishi.
However, both of them knew in their hearts that he couldn’t have left so easily.
They had barely scratched the surface. To have mobilized his privileges to fly here from Beijing and cause such a scene, he wouldn’t just tuck his tail and run because of a minor setback.
During this time, Lin Shiyu hadn’t been idle either. He had contacted almost everyone he could to keep a close eye on Fu Xingjian, making it difficult for him to move a single inch in Haishi.
He wanted to force the man to give up and crawl back to Beijing.
Yet Fu Xingjian remained composed, doing what he needed to do every day, never taking the provocations to heart.
“Fine, I understand. Hang up now.”
After hanging up, Lin Shiyu’s brow furrowed slightly. He looked at Wen Yuhuai, who was sitting by the window, and let out a light “Tch.” “Song Xingmian has returned to the country. He and Gu Yanxiu have come to Haishi together.”
Wen Yuhuai’s fingers tightened around his phone uncontrollably. He turned to look at Lin Shiyu. “Song Xingmian?”
He had expected Gu Yanxiu to come, but how had he gotten involved with Song Xingmian?
Lin Shiyu sat on the single sofa across from him, his expression showing no surprise. He took a sip of black tea. “Song Xingmian’s intentions toward you aren’t pure either. He just knew your sexual orientation and never revealed them before.”
Wen Yuhuai lowered his eyes to look at the glass of tea before him. After a moment, he suddenly let out a cold laugh.
Another one. That made four. The protagonist group was all gathered. If they sat together, they could play a full game of Mahjong.
He really hadn’t been wrong before; the tastes of the protagonist group were truly consistent. They all pursued the same woman, and now that they were pursuing a man, they were still pursuing the same one.
“What are the two of them doing in Haishi? Helping Fu Xingjian tie me back to Beijing?”
Lin Shiyu turned his cup, looking at the clear tea in thought. “I don’t know. Doesn’t seem like it. They arrived in Haishi last night but didn’t contact Fu Xingjian. Instead, they’ve been asking about your whereabouts.”
A mocking smile curved Wen Yuhuai’s lips again. What difference did it make whether they contacted him or not? As long as they had designs on him—
The glass was slammed back onto the table, creating ripple after ripple. Wen Yuhuai looked at the wide view outside and took a deep breath.
This feeling of being coveted was truly unpleasant.
Lin Shiyu’s gaze fell on him, his voice light as if comforting him. “Don’t be afraid. This is Haishi, not Beijing. Coming here, they are like tigers with their claws pulled; they won’t be able to cause any trouble.”
Wen Yuhuai turned to look at him and suddenly said, “Don’t involve yourself in this matter anymore. Your foundation is here; you aren’t as free as they are. I’ll go and have some fun with them.”
Lin Shiyu froze for a moment, as if he hadn’t understood. Once he processed the words, his brows furrowed deeply. “What do you mean by that? You don’t trust me? How can you possibly fight the three of them alone?”
Wen Yuhuai’s attitude was firm. “Your career here has finally started to pick up. What if it gets ruined by their nonsense? When it was just Fu Xingjian, I really couldn’t do much to him. But now that the other two are here, I’ll just let them keep each other in check—a game of dog bite dog.”
Lin Shiyu’s expression still didn’t look good. “Are you sure? This is too risky. Those guys aren’t easy to fool.”
Wen Yuhuai’s lips curved into a smile, his eyebrows rising at the same time. His face was full of arrogance and defiance, enough to make anyone seeing that smile unable to look away. “I won’t let your hard work during this time go to waste. Just wait. In a while, I’ll invite you to watch a good show.”
Lin Shiyu said nothing more. He raised his teacup and clinked it against Yuhuai’s. “Then I wish you an early victory.”
“Hello, who is this?”
Song Xingmian had been in Haishi for two days, but because he couldn’t find a lead, he had stayed in the hotel for two full days. He was exuding an explosive irritability.
At this time, an unknown local number called him. Bored, he picked it up, his tone naturally not very pleasant.
No one spoke on the other side, as if they were playing a prank.
Song Xingmian’s temper flared. Just as he was about to curse the person out, someone spoke.
“Xiao Mian.”
The anger Song Xingmian had gathered was like a balloon that hadn’t been fully inflated and was suddenly pricked by a needle—it deflated instantly. His lips curled up uncontrollably, and his tone became as sweet as if he had just eaten candy. “Brother.”
Hearing the voice from the other side, Wen Yuhuai raised an eyebrow carelessly. Honestly, when he hadn’t known about Song Xingmian’s feelings, he had quite liked this younger brother. Even now, he didn’t hate him much.
At least he hadn’t done those disgusting things to him.
But he had gotten involved with Gu Yanxiu.
He didn’t have much of a good impression of him now either.
“I heard you returned to the country and came to Haishi. Do you have time? Want to meet up?”
