Chapter 84: Sneaking Bites of Brother
Lin Shiyu closed his eyes, unable to bear it any longer. Never had he hated his own helplessness as much as now. After planning so diligently, in the end, he couldn’t even protect the person he loved.
Wen Yuhuai wasn’t surprised by this. He had already experienced Fu Xingjianâs methods in Beijing; what he was seeing now was just a deeper understanding of him.
âGo sleep for a bit. Itâs not like heâs only been difficult for a day or two. Weâll meet whatever comes our way; there will always be a solution. Donât ruin your health.â
âThe commotion he caused here isn’t small. If he failed this time, there will likely be a next time. The people backing him might protect him once, but not necessarily a second time. We just need to wait for him to show a weakness.â
Wen Yuhuai didn’t actually feel confident saying this, but Lin Shiyuâs eyes were completely red, and he looked truly frightening.
Besides, he had already prepared for the worst. The worst-case scenario was being dragged back to Beijing. If Fu Xingjian really had the guts to lock him up again, he would just fight him to the death.
After much persuasion, he finally got Lin Shiyu to return to his room to rest. Wen Yuhuai sat where Lin Shiyu had been, lit a cigarette, and gently tapped the table. The irregular tapping revealed that he wasn’t as calm as he appeared.
He didn’t think about asking anyone for help. Ultimately, this was his own business; no one had the obligation to help him, and he didn’t want to leave his back entirely to others.
That would be too passive.
Even with Lin Shiyu, he didn’t want to owe him too much. Knowing the man liked him and still using him like this made him feel a bit guilty.
He didn’t want to carry an emotional debt, especially from another man.
After thinking for a long time without finding a good solutionâa person with nothing to lose doesn’t fear someone with everything. The current Fu Xingjian was too insane for ordinary people to handle. He could try negotiating when the man was sane, but for now, he could only wait for this madness to pass.
Fu Xingjian sat in the police station for about two hours before he was bailed out. The person who came for him sat in a low-profile Audi A6 and didn’t get out of the car once, just waiting quietly inside.
After those two hours, Fu Xingjian had mostly calmed down. He took a deep breath, leaned down, and tapped gently on the car window, adopting a very humble posture.
The window soon lowered, revealing a steady, somewhat older man.
âXingjian, youâre not a child anymore. Isn’t it good to stay in Beijing? Why come to Haishi to act out during the New Year?â
Fu Xingjian remained slightly bowed in that humble position. âSorry for the trouble, Uncle Xie. Don’t worry, there won’t be a next time.â
The man he called Uncle Xie gave a slight nod, his tone softening. âGood, as long as you know the consequences. After you finish what you came for, hurry back to Beijing. I need to call your uncle and report the situation.â
âUncle Xie is right.â
The window of the Audi slowly rose, and the car started, soon disappearing around a corner.
Fu Xingjian slowly straightened his back, his expression returning to indifference.
The assistant beside him stood carefully, not daring to look up.
Fu Xingjian pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice flat. âGo check. Find out exactly where they are staying now.â
This wasn’t too difficult to handle. The assistant let out an almost imperceptible sigh of relief, answered with a “Yes,” and went to work.
Fu Xingjian looked up at the sky. Today was a clear day with a cloudless, deep blue sky, making his dark eyes look a bit less gloomy, yet the deep shadows in his gaze wouldn’t dissipate.
He slowly curled his lips, brushed off non-existent dust from his coat, and got into the car unhurriedly.
âA-Yu, do you think you can get rid of me like this? Letâs wait and see.â
He knew he had completely lost control. His current calmness was just forced, but he didn’t plan to cut his losses. He had always believed in one principle.
For anything, either don’t do it at all, or if you do, give it your all to the very end.
However, he really couldn’t be so impulsive anymore. He needed to plan well. Haishi wasn’t his territory; it was difficult to act without being hindered, and a slight mistake could lead to being trickedâwasn’t today a perfect example?
Not to mention Lin Shiyu and the Shen family watching him like hawks. He couldn’t let his guard down.
Fu Xingjian hadn’t understood at first where Lin Shiyu got such strong help, but just now at the station, he remembered that Lin Shiyuâs mother, who died early, was from Haishi.
Truly troublesome.
Above the clouds, a plane crossed the ocean and slowly landed at Beijing Airport.
Song Xingmian hadn’t told anyone about his return this time. Carrying nothing but his documents, he stepped off the plane, eager to find his brother.
He wanted to demand why his messages hadn’t been replied to for so long and why his brother had ignored him for such a long time. If he didn’t get a reasonable explanation, he wouldn’t forgive him easily.
However, he didn’t expect to find the Wen family villa empty.
The villa was actually deserted; not a soul was inside.
He instinctively wanted to take out his phone to contact Wen Yuhuai, but he couldn’t get through at all.
For a rare moment, Song Xingmian felt lost, standing blankly before the villa, not even knowing where to go next.
After a long while, he remembered the others. After much hesitation, he dialed Gu Yanxiuâs number; he seemed to be the easiest to talk to.
After the phone rang three times, it was picked up leisurely. âHello?â
Song Xingmian suppressed his impatience and asked: âWhere is Brother? Why is no one at the Wen house?â
On the other end, Gu Yanxiu only chuckled twice, like he was teasing a child. âHow should I know?â
Song Xingmian knew he was just unwilling to tell him and said bluntly: âWhere are you? Iâm coming to find you.â
Gu Yanxiuâs lips curled into a mocking smile, but he finally gave a location name. â3:00 PM. Donât be late.â
Song Xingmian had nowhere else to go anyway. After hanging up, he went straight to the place Gu Yanxiu mentioned. It was a place for afternoon tea, with only a few scattered people inside. He chose a window seat and waited boredly.
When Gu Yanxiu said 3:00 PM, he meant exactly 3:00 PMânot a minute early, not a minute late.
Song Xingmian asked directly where Wen Yuhuai was. Gu Yanxiu maintained the same attitude as on the phone, shrugging noncommittally. âDonât know.â
After saying that, he didn’t hide it and briefly explained what had happened during this period.
Song Xingmian was clever; even with just a few words, he guessed the gist of the matter. He couldn’t sit still anymore. Like a child whose favorite toy had been stolen, his eyes instantly turned red with anger, and he began to shout.
âYou actually took advantage of my absence to sneak bites of Brother and even scared him away?â
