Chapter 30: Is He a Dog?
On Monday, Chu Yang went to class as usual. He had thought about the incident with Lin Zhiheng and ultimately decided against moving dorms; it was simply too much of a hassle.
Instead of moving, he might as well just rent a place near the school. That way, he could livestream every day.
He had considered whether to sign up for a boxing class. Previously, Chu Yuanzhou had enrolled him in several Sanda classes, which had proven quite effective.
Next time… if there really was a next time, he would make sure to cripple Lin Zhiheng in one go.
However, Chu Yang hadn’t expected Lin Zhiheng to come back to school so soon. The injuries on his face hadn’t faded yet, and he looked like he had lost a significant amount of weight. He seemed incredibly gloomy.
Xie An and Si Yao both felt a sense of oddity, but they also relaxed. They had worried that Chu Yang’s leave was to go out with Lin Zhiheng.
Seeing Lin Zhihengâs current state, they thought it was impossible. It was far too unappetizing.
What was strange today was that after Xie An and Si Yaoâs usual “seat-swapping war,” Lin Zhiheng didn’t come over. He just sat there, staring at the back of Chu Yangâs head.
With injuries on his face and such a gloomy, abnormal aura, several classmates went over to ask what happened. After all, they were in the same class. But with his build, he didn’t look like someone who would be a victim of school bullying.
As it turned out, Lin Zhiheng didn’t appreciate the concern. He gave them a look and actually said, “Mind your own business.”
Crap. No one wanted to care anyway. No wonder he had no friends.
After class, they went to eat. Although Lin Zhiheng followed, he had no intention of sitting at the same table as them. Si Yao and Xie An certainly weren’t the type to invite him either.
Chu Yang didn’t invite him either, which made Si Yao and Xie An feel even more that something was off.
On the way back, Xie An asked, “Did you have a fight with Lin Zhiheng?”
Chu Yang had his hands in his pockets. “I guess so. Weâve had a falling out.”
Xie An and Si Yao exchanged a look. They didn’t know whether to be happy or what. After all, there seemed to be only one thing that would cause a falling out with Chu Yangâthe discovery that someone liked him.
Lin Zhiheng didn’t seem like someone that stupid. He couldn’t have pulled some insane stunt while they weren’t in the dorm, could he??
He was incredibly anxious. He threw all his usual restraint to the wind and immediately picked up his phone to message Chu Yang: [Did Lin Zhiheng bully you?]
[He didn’t do anything to you, did he? Do you need me to report the discord to the teacher and have him move out?]
He was very worried that Chu Yang had been hurt, and also worried that Chu Yang would move out because of this. The school wouldn’t let him apply to move with a roommate; the best solution was to make Lin Zhiheng leave.
Chu Yangâs hand tapping the message paused. He instinctively looked at the bed opposite. Lin Zhiheng was already in bed, leaning against the wall in a meditative pose, facing him…
Chu Yang let out a “tsk,” pulled his bed curtain shut, and then replied to Xie An: [Itâs fine. Itâs mostly resolved. Don’t worry.]
He was about to close the app when Xie Anâs next message arrived: [Then will you move dorms?]
Chu Yang: [No.]
Xie An breathed a sigh of relief: [Thatâs good. I donât want you to move. If Lin Zhiheng does anything to you, Iâll help you deal with him and make him move.]
Chu Yang: [Thanks.]
Lin Zhiheng didn’t do anything else. He just used those eyes to stare at Chu Yang in silence for a long time, making it feel like he was plotting something.
But he didn’t say another word in the dorm, and he didn’t even interact with the others. Chu Yang couldn’t be bothered with him; as long as the man didn’t go crazy, everything was fine.
Chu Yang still livestreamed in the dorm, but he now kept his curtains tightly sealed whenever he was live.
After ending the stream, he pulled the curtains open. He didn’t take off his headset, instead switching the game music to something soothing.
He took out his math textbook and a pen to start memorizing formulas and previewing lessons.
Propping his head with one hand, he used the other to circle and underline points in the book. He looked lazy and occasionally hummed along to the music.
Xie An went to his part-time job as usual.
Si Yao was typing away on his computer. The screen was filled with rows of colorful code. Hearing Chu Yang humming, he couldn’t help but look over again and again.
“What song are you listening to?”
Chu Yang: “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You.”
Si Yao: “Iâll give it a listen too.”
Several courses in the first year were quite important. Since his major was linked to mathematics, there was plenty of memorization and calculation involved.
After finishing his reading, Chu Yang reopened his computer to do some programming.
When night fell, the system suddenly came online with a ding: [Host, Pei Xilin has been drugged. You need to go save him.]
Chu Yang was instantly alert. “Did someone set him up to use drugs?!”
When he heard “drugged,” that was the first thing that came to mind. He had already stood up to open his wardrobe.
System: [Itâs aphrodisiacs and sedatives.]
Chu Yangâs movements paused. “Thereâs no need for me to save him from that, is there? Should I just call an ambulance for him?”
System: [It is necessary. He is in a very bad state. According to our detection, if he loses his virginity tonight, there is a high probability he will commit suicide later.]
Chu Yang: “??? Is he that fragile?”
System: […Yes.]
To maintain world stability, the Mainframe behind the system performed daily predictions based on the development of events. Naturally, it had also noticed that Pei Xilin liked Chu Yang.
Furthermore, Pei Xilin placed extreme importance on his own purity. If he couldn’t pursue Chu Yang later because of this incident, who knows what kind of chaos he might cause.
The system knew Chu Yang would definitely perform the mission for Chu Yuanzhouâs safety. But if it told Chu Yang directly that Pei Xilin was a gay man who had his eyes on him, not only would it scare Chu Yang, but Chu Yang might also endure disgust to interact with him, which wouldn’t help the mission.
It was best to let Pei Xilin find his own way.
Chu Yang put on a black windbreaker and a pair of black-rimmed glasses. Finally, he tucked his trouser legs into his black Martin boots. After tightening the laces, he straightened up, grabbed his car keys, and headed out.
The polished surface of his boots made a sharp tap-tap-tap sound that struck a chord in oneâs heart.
There was a breeze downstairs, making the leaves rustle.
Chu Yang reached up and pulled the zipper to the very top, resting it against his jaw. Even without seeing his face, one could tell he was a handsome guy just from his gait and build.
Looking from the bottom up, he had long legs and a narrow waist. He was very thin.
A slender neck, a sharp and clear jawline, and finally, that fair face with its exceptionally high facial volume.
His usually aggressive expression when he was blank-faced had softened slightly because of the glasses, but he still looked cold.
Dressed like this, he looked like someone who would drive a jeep into a rainforest for an adventure, with snowy mountains as his usual backdrop.
Five minutes after Chu Yang left, Lin Zhiheng grabbed his keys, opened his locker to grab a random jacket, and hurried out as well.
Si Yao let out a “Crap” and quickly followed.
Chu Yang drove out of the school and stopped at the address provided by the system. It was a hotel.
As soon as he entered, a server greeted him. “Sir, are you here for a meal or to stay?”
Chu Yang: “A meal. I have a reservation. Please take me to Private Room 603.”
“Certainly. This way, please.” The two entered the elevator. Just as the doors were halfway closed, the sound of high heels and a womanâs raised voice rang out: “Waitâ”
Chu Yang quickly pressed the open button. A woman dragging a suitcase ran in, followed by several others. Chu Yang and the server were squeezed to the side. Someone even bumped into his armsâ
Chu Yang immediately supported her by the shoulders. “Are you okay?”
His voice was clear and melodious. In an instant, everyone looked up at him, only to freeze when they saw his face.
Chu Yang was the only male in the elevator now. He was tall and exceptionally fair. The hands resting on the girlâs shoulders had well-defined knucklesâslender and powerful. Even the protruding bone of the wrist was beautiful and very eye-catching.
These people stared very directly, looking from Chu Yangâs face to his hands, then up and down as if trying to see more. But Chu Yang was wrapped up very tightly.
The girl he was supporting looked up into his eyes, her face instantly turning red. “Th… thank you.”
She backed away a little and looked up again. Suddenly, her nose caught a whiff of a cold fragranceâit smelled wonderful. She kind of wanted to ask what perfume it was, but then a ding announced they had reached the 6th floor.
“Please excuse us. we need to get out.”
“Oh, oh, okay.”
The server led Chu Yang out. When they reached the door of 603, the server knockedâ
The door opened. Chu Yang stood there against the light, and everyoneâs gaze settled on him.
He was expressionless. His cold gaze scanned the room. There were men and women, some dressed normally and some not, but Chu Yang didn’t find Pei Xilin.
He even looked under the sofa; it didn’t look like a place where someone could be hidden, though there were empty seats.
Chu Yang took a step back. “Sorry. I seem to have the wrong room number.”
The server was about to help smooth things over when a glamorous woman holding a slim cigarette said, “Itâs fine if you have the wrong room. Handsome, you can come in and chat. We have seats.”
Chu Yang smiled. “No thanks. I have class tomorrow.”
The woman raised an eyebrow. “A university student? This ‘sister’ likes that even more. I won’t let you go back empty-handed.”
As soon as she finished, someone inside immediately said, “Forget it. That kid is coming back later. If…”
If he took a liking to this student, what would they do? They needed to find one of their ownâsomeone who could be blamed and who could leak information.
The woman let out a “tsk” and said no more.
The door closed. Chu Yang apologized to the server and said he needed to use the restroom, asking her to wait by the elevator as he might need to book a room later.
Server: “Certainly. The restroom is over there. Shall I show you the way?”
“No need. Just wait for me at the elevator, thanks.”
“Okay.”
Chu Yang walked into the restroom. He washed his hands, wrapped a paper towel around his middle and index fingers, and tapped on every stall door. Only one wouldn’t open. He knocked twice, but there was no reaction from inside.
[Can you confirm if Pei Xilin is inside?] Chu Yang asked the system.
The system had just said: [I can’t.]
The second the system finished speaking, the door opened with a click. Chu Yang came face-to-face with Pei Xilin, whose eyes were bloodshot.
“You’re here again.”
Chu Yang: [He can recognize me like this? How did he know?]
System: [Maybe… scent?] It also found it unbelievable.
Chu Yang: [Ha, is he a dog?]
The moment the words left his mind, Pei Xilin stiffened.
Translator’s Note:
Cultural & Idiom Notes:
- Licking Dog (čç – TiÇngÇu): Iâve translated this as “Simp” in most contexts here as it fits the modern internet slang vibe better, though “Licking Dog” is the literal translation.
- Baifumei (ç˝ĺŻçž): “Rich Beauty.” Literally: White (fair-skinned), Rich, and Beautiful. Itâs the ultimate compliment/trope for a female (or in this case, a “wife” coded male) character.
- Tang Sanzang (ĺĺ§): A reference to the monk from Journey to the West. His flesh was said to grant immortality, so every demon wanted to eat him. Fans use this to describe someone so attractive that everyone wants a “piece” of them.
- Ascension (éŁĺ – FÄishÄng): A cultivation term for becoming a deity/immortal. In gaming, it’s used sarcastically for being “blown up” or killed instantly.
- Guts (税 – ZhÇng): Literally “seed” or “breed.” In Chinese, “no seed” (ć˛ç¨Ž) means having no balls or being a coward.
