Chapter 13: Insect Wings
“Lord, I am not angry.”
Lan Ze gave a self-deprecating smile.
“Females are bloody and violent. After insectification, we are covered in fangs, scales, and insect markings—it really is quite hideous, isn’t it?”
Yan Mo felt that Lan Ze in this state was a bit scary. This didn’t count as being angry?!
If Lan Ze actually got angry, would he treat Yan Mo like an interstellar beast?
“No! You have to let me explain.”
Yan Mo anxiously grabbed Lan Ze’s hand.
Lan Ze twitched his hand but didn’t pull away, fearing he might hurt the Male if he used too much force. He could only allow Yan Mo to hold him with a stiff posture.
“I’ve just never seen it before! That Female suddenly turned into that state, and I was frightened! But I’m not afraid of you!”
Lan Ze said coldly, “Is that so, Lord? But that is my most primal form as well. If my mental power pollution worsens, there will eventually come a day when I riot too. When that time comes, you will see that I am no different from that Female.”
“At least I know you wouldn’t hurt me.”
Yan Mo looked into Lan Ze’s eyes.
“Right?”
Lan Ze didn’t speak. Of course he wouldn’t hurt Yan Mo; how could he bear to?
He turned his head away, avoiding the Male’s overly bright eyes.
Suddenly, massive insect wings unfurled, instantly filling the space of the flyer.
The skeletal frame of the wings couldn’t fully extend inside the flyer, leaving sharp bone spurs hanging right at the tip of Yan Mo’s nose.
Yan Mo’s eyes widened in shock.
Lan Ze stared intently at Yan Mo. “Look. These are my insect wings. The bone spurs on them are extremely sharp; they can easily pierce through the armor of an A-rank beast and even inject toxins.”
He tried his best to describe the ferociousness and terror of the wings, yet he stared unblinkingly at the Male, terrified that he would see even a hint of fear or disgust on his face.
“A frail Male Lord like you could easily be torn to shreds by these wings.”
Aside from possessing pheromones, the Males of the Zerg race had no physical differences from human men. They had no insect wings and no sharp claws; their combat power was far lower than that of Females.
The insect wings of Females were something Males both envied and loathed.
In the galaxy, there were many Males who enjoyed cutting off a Female’s wings to make them into specimens. This stemmed from their longing for wings as well as their deep-seated fear of Females.
Lan Ze thought that Yan Mo would be afraid too.
For the next step, would he be like other Males and demand that Lan Ze cut off his wings for him to play with?
Yan Mo, naturally, had no such twisted thoughts.
He looked at Lan Ze’s wings with eyes full of wonder. To him, this scene was more spectacular than the special effects in a sci-fi movie.
Yan Mo reached out, wanting to touch the sharp bone spur above his head, but Lan Ze caught his hand.
“Lord, be careful. This is not something a frail Male like you should touch.”
Lan Ze felt that Yan Mo hadn’t listened to a word he just said. He had already said the bone spurs were poisonous, yet the Male still wanted to touch them with his bare hands.
Yan Mo pursed his lips. This was the second time Lan Ze had called him “frail.”
While he was indeed a weakling compared to Zerg Military Females, he wasn’t that frail!
Back in modern times, he had actually practiced some kickboxing, okay?!
He flipped his hand and gripped Lan Ze’s hand firmly, and sure enough, he saw the Female’s ear tips turn red.
A bit of mischief was released.
Yan Mo cleared his throat. “Ahem. The wings are very beautiful.”
Lan Ze’s heart skipped a beat. He gave a cold laugh. “Does the Lord need me to cut them off and present them to you?”
Yan Mo was shocked. “Why would you think that?”
He suddenly remembered reading about certain Males on the Star Net who boasted about wings they had stripped from their Female Attendants, and he froze.
“Lan Ze, I praised them as beautiful because they are part of you. I have no intention of taking them off.”
Yan Mo looked at Lan Ze and spoke solemnly.
“Insect wings are most beautiful only when they are on you, carrying you as you soar through the stars.”
Lan Ze was stunned.
Everything around them went silent; Lan Ze could only hear the sound of his own heartbeat.
Thump-thump, thump-thump…
“The flyer seems a bit small.”
Yan Mo quietly shifted his arm.
Lan Ze snapped back to reality, and the wings vanished in an instant.
Yan Mo curiously peered at Lan Ze’s back, wondering where such massive wings could possibly be hidden.
Lan Ze felt uncomfortable under his gaze and asked in a raspy voice: “Lord, what are you looking for?”
“Your wings…”
The words escaped Yan Mo’s mouth before he realized they might be inappropriate, and he stopped.
A smile tugged at Lan Ze’s lips, his cold face suddenly glowing with radiance. He turned his back, his lean spine facing Yan Mo. “Since the Lord is curious, do you want to try touching them?”
Yan Mo froze and murmured, “Can I…?”
But his hand had already instinctively reached out toward the upright spine covered by the uniform.
Lan Ze’s breath hitched. A searing heat spread from his back to his entire body, and his face flushed red.
Yan Mo didn’t notice Lan Ze’s abnormality. He studied carefully and found that the Female’s back was smooth and clean, with nothing extra protruding.
Those dangerous and beautiful wings seemed to appear and disappear out of thin air.
Even the uniform remained perfectly intact.
Yan Mo thought to himself: This is really unscientific.
But then again, his transmigration into the Zerg race was already a highly unscientific event.
Feeling the gentle touch on his back, Lan Ze finally surrendered first.
He moved a few steps forward to escape the Male’s touch, but he didn’t turn around. Instead, he pretended to check the flyer’s flight status, not daring to let the Male see his burning face.
“Ahem. Lord, we are about to arrive at the planetary spaceport. Saiensi is there with the Fourth Army Efa Star squad. Once we disembark, we will transfer to a military starship and head directly to Planet 1347.”
Lan Ze had made a temporary application to participate in the inspection of Planet 1347. Saiensi hadn’t actually stayed at the base to rest; he was still leading the inspection squad.
Hearing about Planet 1347, Yan Mo’s attention was indeed diverted.
He peered out the window of the flyer and could already see the Efa Star Spaceport in the distance.
“How long does it take to get to Planet 1347 by starship from the spaceport?”
For some reason, Yan Mo felt an uneasy restlessness in his heart. Perhaps it was because the answer to whether he could return to Earth was about to be revealed. The closer they got to Planet 1347, the faster his heart beat.
The flyer landed at the port. Lan Ze disembarked first, opened the door, and stood aside. After a while, he realized Yan Mo hadn’t come out.
He leaned down to look at Yan Mo, only to find the Male sitting dazed inside the flyer.
“Lord Yan Mo?” Lan Ze reminded him softly.
Yan Mo returned to his senses, offered Lan Ze an apologetic look, and then rose to exit the flyer.
Lan Ze shook his head and led Yan Mo to meet with Saiensi.
Upon entering the spaceport, many Zerg could be seen boarding or leaving.
The majority were Females.
The spaceport was the transportation hub for various planets. Not only were there starships traveling between other planets and Efa Star, but some habitable planets and tourist planets also used the Efa Star Spaceport as a transit point.
There were many Zerg in the spaceport, and Yan Mo finally saw native Males for the first time since arriving in this world.
The characteristics of native Males were very distinct.
Just as Yan Mo had learned on the Star Net, the Males of the Zerg race possessed no insectoid traits—no antennae, no insect pupils, no wings, and no markings.
Yan Mo saw a Male with a physical build similar to a human man. He was somewhat short and stout, with an ordinary, even unattractive face.
Surrounded by three or four tall Females, he appeared even smaller.
Based on Zerg characteristics, this Male’s rank was likely not high.
Those Females were clearly the Male’s “Female Monarch” or “Female Attendants.” The Male was also holding a Sub-female in his arms. The group of five or six seemed to be arguing with a Female wearing the spaceport employee uniform.
Yan Mo cast a curious glance at that Male.
Lan Ze followed his gaze. “What is the Lord looking at?”
Yan Mo shook his head. “Nothing.”
“Let’s go this way; we’ll use the military passage.”
Lan Ze didn’t press further and led Yan Mo toward the passage where the military starships were docked.
Suddenly, a voice came from behind: “Stop right there.”
