Chapter 12: Conversation
This was the explanation the doctor had given during his previous hospitalization.
“You should be approaching your secondary differentiation soon; your body is beginning to produce pheromones.”
“Is that so?”
But I’m human!
Had his body undergone some kind of mutation upon transmigration, causing him to develop Zerg genes?
Yan Mo was sent back to the villa by Lan Ze, half-doubting the diagnosis.
After dropping him off, Lan Ze rushed back to the military base to deal with the aftermath of the Female whose mental power had rioted.
Yan Mo spent half the day sniffing around the house but didn’t smell a trace of the pheromones Lan Ze had mentioned.
He eventually gave up and opened the Star Net to continue researching news regarding Planet 1347 and the Interstellar Rift.
Regardless of everything else, he still had to go to Planet 1347 to see for himself.
In the evening, Yan Mo finished cooking, but Lan Ze did not return.
Xiao Yuan rolled over to Yan Mo and spoke in a soft, gentle voice: “Lord, please dine first!”
“Is Major General Lan Ze not coming back?”
“…The Major General said he will return tomorrow morning to pick you up.”
“…”
Xiao Yuan spoke cautiously. Having not received an answer from Yan Mo, the robot tried its best to minimize its presence; the Male Lord seemed to be in a bad mood.
Please don’t take it out on me!
I’m just a weak and innocent smart butler!
Yan Mo wasn’t actually angry. He was simply stunned for a moment before finishing his meal alone.
Lan Ze was probably hurt, wasn’t he?
Recalling his behavior earlier that day, Yan Mo felt a twinge of guilt.
No matter what, Lan Ze was his savior and had never harmed him. On the contrary, it had always been Lan Ze protecting him; he shouldn’t have made such a hurtful gesture.
Although it was a sudden realization that Zerg were not humans after all—a reflexive act of self-defense—Lan Ze didn’t know that. He might think Yan Mo was like the other Males of this world: terrified and repulsed by Females.
Yan Mo felt he should offer Lan Ze a sincere apology.
“Xiao Yuan, do you know what your Major General likes?”
Xiao Yuan was accompanying Yan Mo on a walk outside the villa. Hearing the Male Lord’s sudden inquiry, the eyes on the screen blinked: “The Major General likes… likes collecting interstellar beast specimens!”
“Huh?”
After thinking for a moment, Xiao Yuan led Yan Mo to a room on the third floor of the villa.
Yan Mo looked at the door with curiosity.
He and Lan Ze both lived in rooms on the second floor and rarely went to the third. He hadn’t entered this room yet.
Xiao Yuan opened the door, simultaneously dimming the ambient lights to trigger the display spotlights.
Yan Mo looked up and was instantly frozen in place.
The room was massive, filled with tall display cabinets housing dozens of grotesque, fanged interstellar beast specimens.
The taxidermy technology of the interstellar era was incredibly advanced. Looking at the dozen or so beasts, each one appeared lifelike, as if they might leap from their cabinets and pounce on him at any second.
Yan Mo retreated from the doorway, his face pale as he urged Xiao Yuan to lock the door immediately.
“Your Major General likes this?”
“Yes. Every time the Major General eliminates a high-level interstellar beast, he has it made into a specimen and brings it back. These are the ones collected since the Major General came to Efa Star. There is a much larger collection room at the family home on the Capital Star. There is an S-rank beast there that once invaded over a dozen border residential planets. The Major General went deep into the beast’s nest alone to eliminate it. It was because of that battle that he became the youngest Major General in the galaxy.”
Yan Mo had some impression of the beast Xiao Yuan mentioned.
He had seen that photograph earlier when searching for Lan Ze on the Star Net.
The Female had a cold, beautiful face and was covered in blood, standing beside a massive, hideous interstellar beast. He looked like a rose among thorns—dangerous yet enchanting.
Recalling the dozen oppressive beast specimens he had just seen, Yan Mo’s lip twitched.
As expected of a Female hailed as the “Star of the Military Females,” his hobbies were indeed formidable.
But there was no way Yan Mo could cater to a hobby like that!
Never mind the high-level beasts Lan Ze collected; even if a low-level beast appeared right now, Yan Mo would likely end up in its stomach.
He had never realized so profoundly that in this dangerous galaxy, he was a total weakling!
“Does your Major General… have any gentler hobbies?”
“Gentler?” Xiao Yuan blinked its eyes.
“Yes. For example, what does he like to eat? What does he like to drink? Or would he like that latest model of flyer I saw the other day?”
Yan Mo tried to expand Xiao Yuan’s thinking as much as possible.
“Instead of flyers, the Major General would probably prefer combat mechas.”
Combat mechas? Yan Mo calculated his balance; he probably couldn’t afford one.
“The largest combat mecha research and development company in the galaxy belongs to the Lan family. Any new mecha with breakthrough technology is supplied to the Lan family first.”
Yan Mo was expressionless. Recalling the countless assets under Lan Ze’s name he had seen on the list, it wasn’t surprising that they had mecha research facilities too.
“Think again. Is there anything else?”
“Hmm… the Major General likes eating desserts. Would that work?”
Yan Mo breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Lan Ze didn’t have a taste for “beast banquets,” and Yan Mo just happened to know how to make a few types of desserts.
Time was short, but luckily, interstellar logistics were extremely developed.
Yan Mo selected his ingredients on the Star Net and opted for express delivery. He baked a batch of milk-fragrant, crispy cookies.
Yan Mo took a bite to taste one; it was sweet but not greasy. Lan Ze should like them, right?
The next day.
Yan Mo woke up early. After having breakfast, he sat in the living room watching Xiao Yuan bustle about.
Xiao Yuan helped him pack his luggage. Since Planet 1347 was reportedly very desolate, Xiao Yuan acted as if it wanted to pack the entire villa for him.
Fortunately, the interstellar era had spatial storage buttons—a tiny button could hold over a dozen cubic meters of items.
Yan Mo hung the spatial button on his belt and waited for Lan Ze to set out.
The villa’s front door opened, and Lan Ze’s figure appeared at the entrance.
Yan Mo waved to Xiao Yuan, picked up the box on the table, and walked toward Lan Ze.
“Lord, good day.”
“Good morning. Let’s go!”
Lan Ze nodded. A flyer was already parked at the door. He stepped forward a few paces to open the door and only entered the flyer after the Male had gone in.
The flyer had an autopilot function.
Yan Mo and Lan Ze sat inside, facing each other in silence.
“I made some cookies. See if you like them.”
Yan Mo handed the box of cookies to Lan Ze.
Lan Ze froze for a moment, took the box, and opened the lid. A sweet, crispy aroma drifted out.
He tasted one, and his azure eyes instantly lit up slightly.
Yan Mo smiled. “It seems you really do like sweets.”
Lan Ze’s cheeks reddened slightly. Only young cubs who hadn’t grown up liked eating sweets.
It must have been that idiot Xiao Yuan talking nonsense in front of the Male Lord!
Seeing the faint blush on the Female’s cheeks, Yan Mo was stunned for a moment. He cleared his throat and took the opportunity to say: “Since you like them, can you accept my apology?”
Lan Ze was stunned. The cookie he had just picked up fell to the floor of the flyer.
He hurriedly tried to pick it up, but Yan Mo stopped him.
“It’s dirty now. Just take another one!”
Lan Ze lowered his head. “I have wasted the Lord’s kind intentions. Please punish me!”
Yan Mo shook his head. “It’s just a cookie. If you like them, I’ll make them for you again next time.”
Lan Ze fell silent. It was just a cookie, but in the Zerg race, there was no Male Lord who would personally make cookies to apologize to a Female by catering to his tastes.
Lord Yan Mo was too good; he always made Lan Ze unable to stop himself from wanting to get closer, even if it might lead to his ultimate ruin.
Seeing that Lan Ze didn’t speak, Yan Mo hesitated for a while before finally speaking up.
“Are you still angry with me?”
